Mon ami et moi avons choisi de partir en vacances au mois de novembre pour l'Afrique du Sud, on est pas encore surs de la durée mais ce serait entre 2 et 3 semaines. (plutôt 3 semaines je pense...) Est-ce une bonne période?
D'après plusieurs discussions sur voyage forum et autres sites il est conseillé de louer une voiture pour faire le tour.
Mais entre les principales villes... est-il meilleur de prendre un vol interne? ou peut-on en minimum 2 semaines faire du nord au Sud en voiture?
Et prendre une voiture, ça coûte cher?
Aussi, quel serait le meilleur itinéraire? les choses à ne pas manquer? (à savoir que nous sommes des back packer plus ou moins avertis 🙂)
Concernant la préparation du voyage, vaut-il mieux tout booker avant le départ ou pouvons nous facilement trouver sur place à la dernière minute sur le net? (genre: quand nous sommes partis au Vietnam nous n'avions rien booké à l'avance sauf notre hotel à notre arrivé et nous choisissions au fur et à mesure notre itinéraire, bon j'ai bien conscience que le Vietnam et l'Afrique du sud c'est pas la même chose 🙂)
Également j'ai lu de tout et de rien sur la sécurité là-bas, de plus j'ai mon père qui a travaillé en AdS y'a au moins 30 ans qui panique complètement que nous y allons sans tour organisé... bref si vous pouvez me faire part de vos expériences, je serais ravie! 🙂

Nous avions pour un séjour de trois semaines, loué un Land Rover entièrement équipé camping chez Bushlore à Jobourg. Bivouacs entrecoupé de quelques soirées à l'hôtel. Aucun problème de sécurité, mais nous n'avons jamais bivouaqué en suavage près des grandes ville. Il ya des campings super équipés et des petits hôtels partout et pas chers.
Une question sur votre séjour au Vietnam: comment vous êtes-vous déplacés, avez-vous loué un véhicule sans chauffeur?

Et concernant la location de voiture, tu crois qu'il est possible d'en louer une au Cap et de la rendre à Jobourg? Aussi faut il le faire à l'avance?
Alors pour le Vietnam, nous sommes partis en trek la bas, et avons tout essayé :-) soit, l'avion en interne, le taxi, le pousse-pousse, le train, le bus et n'oublions pas le scooter (leur principal moyen de locomotion) et... euh nos pieds :-)
La location de voiture pour les étrangers ne se font que rarement et avec chauffeur je crois, car les étrangers conduisant une voiture son mal vu.
C'est un pays ou il est TRES facile de se déplacer et surtout de se promener (à taille humaine quoi) et d'ailleurs il serait dommage de ne pas en profiter!
Et au pire, si à Hanoï vous êtes fatigués, pas de soucis vous prenez un pousse-pousse et pour environ 1EUR il vous fait le tour de la ville! :) (et pour 2 personnes hé hé hé)
Pour rejoindre le centre-est (Hué, Hoi An...) je vous conseille le vol interne avec vietnam airlines (vous pouvez meme booker votre vol la veille et faire de même pour rejoindre aussi Ho Shi Minh City ensuite, ca apporte un gain de temps en transport) et ensuite sur place louez un scooter pour env 4EUR la journée et visitez les temples et citadelles ca en vaut la peine et en plus sa rafraichi.
De manière général le scooter est roi la-bas! mais je déconseillerai la voiture... la bas il n'y que les taxis qui sont sur les routes mis à part qq exceptions...
D'ailleurs le taxi peut être pris à l'aéroport sans soucis... n'oubliez pas de négocier le prix par contre :-) (4a peut aller jusqu'à -30/40%!)
C'est un pays ou il est facile de ne rien préparer, car tout peut se faire sur place rapidement par le net ou en demandant de l'aide à la réception de votre hotel. De plus les viet sont sympa et aidant. Et en plus c'est pas cher! :-)

pour une voiture , on peut trés bien la louer à un endroit et la rendre à un autre, mais ça coute plus cher, se renseigner avant sur les sites de location. il vaut mieux louer la voiture avant de partir sur internet; pour les hotels et campings pas la peine de reserver à l'avance en dehors des vacances sudafs. par contre vous pouvez chercher des adresses sympas à l'avance sur where to stay south africa. pour les parcs nationaux il vaut mieux reserver pour être sur... à moins que vous ne fassiez que du camping.

Pas vraiment besoin de louer un 4x4 pour l'AFS : les principales routes sont goudronnées (même dans les parcs animaliers) et les petites routes non goudronnées sont très carrossables. Il vaut mieux économiser sur ce poste et prendre des logements confortables.

Je connais très bien La ville du Cap (étant née et encore une maison sur place)...
- Table Mountaine (pas de réservation), magnifique!!!
- Robben Island : prison ou Nelson Mandela fut incarcéré pendant 27 ans (à acheter vos billet dès votre arrivé) = au Waterfront.
- Waterfront : Port magnifique du Cap.
- Houte Bay (world of bird) env.30 km du centre du Cap avec une route magnifique qui borde l'océan atlantique. Très bien!
- Cape of good hop : 1h30 de voiture depuis le Cap, magnifique!!!
- La route des vins : région Stellenbosch, si vous aimez le vins, vous aller être servis, magnifique!!! 45min du Cap, toujours en voiture.
Je connais aussi un peu Durban (Mon amie habite dans cette ville)
Et pour savoir quoi faire, ben je te propose quelques bons trucs : Park kruger (jamais fais, mais bon ce n'est qu'une question de temps ;)) ; Gods of window (magnifique) ;
La garden road, stupéfiante PS : j'y serais à partir du 22 avril 2011 pour 8 jours (du Cap à Port Elizabeth ou l'inverse Env, 800km) hébergement en "guest house"; the White Sharks diving (à Gansbaai Env.100 km de la ville du Cap), il y a aussi le plus grand saut du monde à l'élastique pour les amateurs de sensations forte.

Pour la voiture de location j'ai réservé via ce site : www.locationdevoitureargus.fr Le moins cher que j'ai trouvé, je te dirais la fiabilité une fois sur place!! je la prend à partir du 12 avril.
PS : si tu à l'occasion de trouver un marché typique africain (bord de route généralement) : arrête toi cela vaut le détoure. marchandage et de très jolies choses.
Sécurité : J'y est été un peu près 10 fois sur place sur 17 ans, et je ne me suis jamais sentie en insécurité!! si je peux juste te conseiller :
Ne porter pas de valeurs sur vous, toujours avoir un peux d'argent dans une poche (on ne sais jamais!!!), fermer toujours vos porte à clef et éviter de rouler la nuit quand vous ne connaissez pas l'endroit...

Rebonsoir! pour plus de précisions on a fait : Paris Le Cap via Jburg, location de voiture avec "e-locationde voiture .com, prise au Cap et abandon à Port Elizabeth , vol Port- Elisabeth - Jburg, 1 nuit à Jburg et visite de Soweto avec un guide, prise de la 2e voiture à Jburg , direction Blyde river Canyon et 3 jours dans le Kruger , réservation 3 mois à l'avance pour les camps, rte vers le Swaziland et après St Lucia, le Drakensberg et retour pour le vol retour à Jburg.Avions seulement réservé 3 nuits en guest house à Capetown et 1 nuit à Jburg plus le Kruger, il y a des guest-houses un peu partout, très propres et même luxueuses pour un prix correct!!.Nous avons payé la location de voiture du Cap à Port-Elisabeth 168€ pour une semaine assurance rachat de franchise et frais d'abandon compris, pour Jburg et retour au même endroit 278€ pour 2 semaines, voilà!!Reste à ta disposition pour d'autres renseignements.

Actuellement la plupart des routes du Vietnam sont acessible en voiture normale ( c'est moins cher , evidemment ! ), a condition que vous ne serez pas dans des endroits recules des hauts plateaux , surtout en saison de pluie ! ... Ca commence deja le debut de saison de pluie .

Hi there, we’ll be in Mozambique in early December 2026 and we’d like to travel from Vilanculos to Beira by car or bus to reach Beira airport. After that, we’re planning to visit Gorongosa National Park before flying back to France from Beira. We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

Were they All Terrain tires or more "standard" ones like all-season tires, for example?
Follow-up question: if they were "standard" tires, did that cause any issues on the gravel roads and rough terrain?

I’m planning a trip to Iceland for next July-August, with a car and tent, and I’m wondering about booking campsites.
From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.
Does that give us the flexibility to stay outside a campsite for a night here and there?

I’m looking for detailed maps of this region that include small roads and tracks.
Last year, we had a fantastic road trip in the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas using Erfahren maps, but unfortunately, they don’t cover the area we’re interested in this year.

We’re planning a 13-day family road trip in Morocco this July, with six people in a Toyota Prado 4x4 (renting in Marrakech).
We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.
Here’s the planned route (in this order):

Our goal:
Atlas Mountains + desert + dunes + plateaus + valleys + a bit of coastline.
We’ll cover about 1,700 km in total.
We’re planning:
Bivouacking in the Chegaga/Iriki area
Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

We’re struggling a bit with timing and choosing activities for the part of the trip between Sesriem and Brandberg.
Day 1: Sesriem to Mirabib
Day 2: Mirabib to Swakopmund – visit Swakopmund, overnight in Swakopmund
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

However, the rental agencies we’ve found prohibit driving on the tracks to Omalo (Tusheti) and/or Ushguli (Svaneti).
Do you know of any agencies in Tbilisi (local and reliable) that allow rented 4x4s to drive on these tracks? If so, which ones?

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. Should I cover both sectors or just focus on the northern region?
For the parks along the Zambezi River, is it better to visit Mana Pools on the Zimbabwe side or Lower Zambezi on the Zambia side?

I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I’m planning to explore Argentine and Chilean Patagonia for a month in December 2019.
I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;)
So, no vans—at least not from the rental companies I’ve seen so far.
While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals?
Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.

My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.
We’d like to stay in a private reserve on nights 4 and 5.
We’re not sure which one or how to get into a private reserve. Do we need to exit Kruger Park?
On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).

When I arrive in Divundu, I’d like to head straight to the Khwai area early in the morning to one of the campsites in the Khwai Development Trust. Is the drive doable with a good 4x4 in a day?
We’ll spend 2 nights in Khwai, then 2 or maybe 3 nights in the Moremi area (Third Bridge/Xakanaxa/Mboma) before heading back to Maun to wrap up our journey.
Is that too much time to spend in each place?

I’m planning to explore the western part of Madagascar from May 1st to 5th, specifically to visit the Tsingy. I’ve heard different versions about the road conditions and access to the Tsingy during this time, so I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually made this trip during this time of year.
Have you traveled from Morondava → Tsingy between May 1st and 5th?
Was the journey doable and safe?
Did you have access to the Grands Tsingy, or just the Petits Tsingy?
