Hi there! We’ll be in Bali from July 28, 2025, to August 28, 2025, and we’d love to know which spots are worth visiting. If anyone has a travel journal or tips to share—especially since we’ll be spending our first week in Uluwatu—thanks in advance for your replies!

Hello, Tanah Lot, Besakih, and a few others I’ve forgotten the names of in the north of Ubud are places "to visit." But Bali is so much better explored without a set itinerary or reservations, just going with the flow—it’s the countryside and the little villages you stumble upon by chance that give it all its charm. It’s a "philosophy" you could easily adopt with all the time you’ll have. In Bali, the "must-visit" spots are secondary.

During the time you’ll be there, avoid Ubud and the south of the island. 😎

Hi there,

After 3 trips to Bali (2011, 2013, 2024), I wrote this article covering the island with practical tips (transport, accommodations, sights, etc.), photos, and my impressions on the Voyage Forum: Discover Indonesia: Bali. You’ll find similar articles on Flores, Java, Papua, Raja Ampat, the Moluccas, Sulawesi, and Alor.

Hi! Four weeks in Bali is a lot, in my opinion.

I agree with Songam—the south of the island isn’t very interesting unless you surf (I read you’re staying a week in Uluwatu).

On top of Ubud, Besakih, and Tanah Lot, you can visit the lakes: Lake Batur with the volcano of the same name (don’t hesitate to go down to the bottom of the caldera), and Lake Bratan with the lovely Hindu temple. I really love eastern Bali, around Amed, with its drier vegetation, beautiful coves, great snorkeling, and the unbeatable view of Mount Agung. Riding a motorbike around the eastern peninsula, passing through mountain villages, makes for an amazing trip—and you usually won’t see many tourists.

Often, the best encounters happen by chance when you explore the island without a set plan, wandering through rice fields and villages...

Finally, if you like hiking, there’s plenty to do with the volcanoes.

Have a great trip!
Bruno
