Nous voila rentrés de thailande (4 semaines). 1er voyage en Asie et 1er voyage sac à dos.
Vol Genève-Bangkok par Egypt Air (Plus jamais cette compagnie).
ETAPE 1 : KHAO YAI = Mon gros coup de coeur en Thailande. Pas trop de touristes, de supers paysages, une guesthouse extra (je ne sais pas si je le droit de donner le nom sur le site). On a fait des randos dans la jungle vraiment géniales, en petit groupe de 5. On a pu voir plein d'animaux : éléphants, bighorns, macaques, gibbons, chauve-souris par millions, serpents, insectes terrifiants..
ETAPE 2 : AYUTTHAYA = On a fait Pak Chong (Khao Yai) -Ayutthaya en train 3ème classe ! Bancs en bois, vendeurs ambulants, vraiment extra !! (mais pas confortable..). Un peu déçu par Ayutthaya. la ville en elle meme n'est pas extra. Par contre les temples sont sympas, mais il faisait tellement chaud !
ETAPE 3 : LOPBURI = J'ai beaucoup aimé la fameuse cité des singes (j'avoue, surtout pour les singes meme s'ils sont pas toujours sympas). L'ambiance est sympa et le night market extra.
ETAPE 4 : SUKHOTAI = Vraiment magnifique. On a loué des vélos. La visite est finalement assez rapide je trouve (une bonne matinée).
ETAPE 5 : ChIANG MAI = liaison en bus (fallait voir l'état du bus...). On y est resté 6 jours. Une ville vraiment sympa (mieux que Bangkok pour moi). Des tas de marchés géniaux, des beaux temples, les gens supers sympas. On a fait un éco trek de deux jours : on est allé voir des villages karens. On est également allé au Elephant Nature Park, un centre qui recueille les éléphants maltraités. C'est vraiment sympa.
ETAPE 6 : KANCHANABURI = liaison par le train couchette (très confortable et pas cher en 2eme classe) puis bus de bangkok. On a fait le pont de la rivière Kwai (sympa mais très touristique) et le parc Erawan et sa cascade à sept niveaux : magnifique !! On peut même se faire un Fish SPA gratos!
ETAPE 7 : KOH TAO = j'ai adoré cette île même si beaucoup disent que les fonds marins et les paysages se sont dégradés depuis quelques années. Les coraux sont en effet morts dans plusieurs baies mais on trouve encore de magnifiques endroits. Et les poissons sont vraiment beaux, multicolores (j'ai même vu deux requins). J'ai surtout fait du Snorkelling. J'ai fait mon bapteme de plongée mais je suis mal tombée niveau agence et du coup ca s'est tres mal passé. J'ai bien cru que j'allais me noyer... Les paysages sont vraiment beaux sinon : eau turquoise, cocotiers et sable blanc..
ETAPE 8 : KOH PHANGAN = très chouette aussi même si j'ai préféré Koh tao. De beaux fonds également du coté de Koh Ma. Et une super super guesthouse pas chère... Notre préférée de tout le voyage ! (encore une fois, je ne sais pas si je peux dire le nom).
ETAPE 9 : BANGKOK = bateau jusqu'à Surat Thani (très moche comme ville, et des tas de blattes énoomres!!) et avion le lendemain. J'ai pas trop aimé Bangkok pour tout dire. Il y a des supers trucs à visiter, je dis pas ! C'est magnifique ! mais je n'ai pas aimé à cause de l'ambiance et des gens vraiment pénibles qui méprisent le touriste et pense qu'à lui soutirer son fric par n'importe quel procédé et escroquerie. J'ai eu le droit à tout je crois (tant pis pour moi, c'est clair : faut dire qu'ailleurs en thailande, les gens sont tellement gentils, qu'arrivés à Bangkok je ne me suis pas méfié et j'ai fait confiance trop vite) : balade sur les Klongs à 2000 bahts pour 2!!!!!!! les tuk tuks qui te trimballent dans tous les magasins de bijoux (le temple est soit disant fermé, ils proposent un autre circuit avec le fameux temple du Lucky Buddha qui n'est pas lucky du tout (au temple, un francais t'annonce la super promo de 7 jours dans les bijouteries, que lui en a profité, etc..), et les bijouteries qui tentent de te vendre des bijours surement en toc... Ceux qui connaissent Bangkok savent de quoi je parle. Sans oublier les taxis qui refusent de mettre le compteur et qui, quand t'insistes, te virent de leur voiture.. Oui, vraiment Bangkok n'a rien a voir avec le reste de la Thailande.
BILAN très positif même si la prochaine fois j'éviterai Bangkok.

Tu peux dire les noms des guesthouses sur ce forum. Cela servira à tous le monde pour de futurs voyages.
Je dois partir dans debut septembre sur koh tao et ko phangan. Peux tu me dire qu'elles sont les guesthouses où tu as résidé pendant ton sejour avec tes impressions ? (prix, lieu, plages ect )
Alors, la guesthouse de Khao yai, c'est Greenleaf guesthouse : vraiment super. familial, pas cher (300b pour le bungalow avec ventilo et douche froide), avec un joli jardin, hamacs.. Et leurs tour dans la jungle sont supers : en petits comités, ils sont vraiment passionnés et te chopent les scorpions et les serpents à mains nues à la indiana jones !
Pour Ko Phangan c'était Seaflowers Bungalow (400b le bungalow avec terrasse, hamac et eau chaude. a 50m de la plage). Meme chose, c'est implanté dans un grand jardin tropicale avec des fleurs multicolores et des cocotiers. les bungalow sont en bois verni, très mignons, il y a une petit resto au bord de la plage..
A ko Tao on avait voulu se la faire romantique et prendre un bungalow plus cher. Donc on avait bris un bungalow vu sur mer avec grande terrasse à View Point Resort (1500b). mais finalement, c'est pas ce qu'on a préféré : pas assez familial.
Pour Air egypt, ca s'est mal passé à l'aller. On a fait Genève - Le Caire sans encombre. On devait reprendre un vol Le caire - BK à 23 h le soir. On décolle, je m'endors.. Je me réveille 2h plus tard : les passagers semblaient tous inquiets. Pas d'hotesses, personne.. Et l'avion était toujours en train de survoler Le Caire 2h apres le décolage. On faisait des tours à basse altitude au dessus de la ville. le temps passe, personne, aucune info.. Puis enfin une info, 3h apres le décollage : problème technique donc on doit attérir à nouveau au Caire. l'avion éjecte le fuel (!!) et se pose durement au sol. Il est 1h du mat'. On nous emmene dans une salle de l'aéroprt ou on s'assied tous. Le temps passe... les passagers commencent à s'ennerver et demandent ce qu'il en est au personnel, aucune réponse. A 3h30 du matin, enfin une annonce : prochain vol le lendemain à7 h du mat'! On nous dit qu'un repas va nous etre servi : en fait c'était une toute petite part de pizza et une petite bouteille d'eau. On attend comme des malheureux sur les sièges durs de l'aéroport toute la nuit. A 7h, on nous dit qu'on va embarquer, on fait la queue, on attend, pour finalement embarquer une heure et demi plus tard. l'avion décollera à 9h et on arrivera à BK en plein milieu de la nuit avec 10h de retard. On a essayé de négocier une nuit d'hotel gratuite à l'arrivée ou meme juste un taxi gratuit : ils ont rien voulu savoir. On a finalement su ce qui s'était passé : un moteur en panne + impossible de préssuriser l'appareil. le pire, c'est que dans l'avion de secours du matin, il avait trois Français qui étaient restés coincés 3 jours au caire parce que le pare brise de l'appareil qu'ils devaient prendre se décollait !
Bref je prendrai plus jamais cette compagnie. pas vraiment à cause des problemes techniques (ca arrive) mais à cause du zéro information et de la facon dont on a été traité.
En plus, niveau confort, c'est pas top : pas de télé individuelle, un seul film en 9h de trajet, et la clim qui ne marchait pas (un coup froid un coup chaud).
essayer la prochaine fois Oman Air, un ami m en a dit que du bien, pas cher, a l heure, bon repas a bord, écran individuel,2 heure d escale a l aller comme au retour.j ai pris mon billet pour début Novembre chez eux.
je vous en dirais plus à mon retour.

Oman Air très bien, je confirme! (enregistrement très efficace, écrans individuels, plein de repas, chaussettes(!) pour dormir, service attentionné...et les 2 heures d'escale font du bien: on peut se dégourdir les jambes, sans que ça allonge excessivement le trajet) ;on a apprécié et je repartirai volontiers avec cette compagnie. (je repartirai volontiers tout court, d'ailleurs 😉)
A peine revenu du mexique et du guatemala, j'etudie deja ma prochaine destination et je suis de plus en plus tenté par l'asie et notament la thailande.
Je m inquiete surtout au niveau du climat, n'y a t il pas la mousson en juillet aout ???

C'est sur la Thailande est un super pays.
J'y suis régulièrement depuis 5 ans et je ne me lasse pas d'y revenir. Mon copain est Thailandais, ça aide peut être.
Surtout pour Bangkok. J'ai déjà eu cette version de touristes qui se font jeter des taxis qui ne veulent pas mettre le compteur, les tours operator Tuk-Tuk, etc... Je n'ai jamais eu cette mauvaise expérience ici à Bangkok. Je crois que comme dans toutes les grandes villes il faut faire attention aux arnaques, pas plus à Bangkok qu'ailleurs...
Mais il faut retourner à bangkok, c'est une superbe ville. Plein de choses à faire. Moi je vis dans un quartier non touristique de BangKapi et ici la vie est super, plein d'etudiants, pas de bar à prostitués, peu de touriste donc pas de tuk tuk, mais des bus de ville.

Pour ma part je suis allé plusieurs fois en Thaïlande par Air France, par Kenya airways (j'habite en Afrique), par Gulf Air, et cette fois ci au depart d orly avec Air Berlin (via l allemagne). Cout competitif pour un service à bord égal à Air France.

j'avais pris le meme vol que toi (cela devait etre le 16 juillet dernier) - decollage du caire pour bkk puis ré-atterissage après 3 h
Du coup on a loupé la correspondance pour HCMville à BKK:
egyptair nous a offert une nuit d'hotel au Hilton de l'aeroport en attendant le premier vol du matin suivant pour Saigon.. par contre les promesses d'arrangement du billet n'ont pas été honorées (le gars d'Egyptair a disparu au matin et le comptoir est resté desespérément vide) on était quelque uns a payer l'aller simple pour HCMcity une 2ème fois.
sinon je confirme prestation très moyenne a bord / écran collectif avec audio lamentable / bouffe très médiocre / pas de boissons alcoolisées
un copain a nous a pris Royal jordanian avec 7h d'escale à Amman (escale trop longue a notre gout): ils ont eu une chambre d'hotel systématiquement pour y dormir et prendre une douche / écran perso pour chaque siège ...finalemnt pour gagner quelques heures d'escale, on a eu tout Faux!

Chaque personnes choisi son vols selon leur propre critère et leurs envies,
un vol avec escale sera préféré pour ceux qui veulent se dégourdir les jambes, d'aller fumer la clope... etc
D'autre préfèreront mettre plus chère et avoir un vol sans escale... 😎
Tout dépend aussi de la période où l'on voyage.
Fin septembre j'ai eu pour 580€ un vol du soir avec la Thai. C'est vrai qu'a ce tarif, je ne vais pas me faire chier avec les escales. D'ailleurs même si le billet était à 700€ je préférerais le vol sans escale.
Au dessus .., il faut voir le temps du trajet (temps des correspondances) et surtout la compagnie.
Sachant que mes compagnies préférés m'offre toujours des tarifs qui me convienne, je n'irais jamais voir chez Egyptair, Aeroflot, jordanian, etc.
Après c'est l'ambiance dans l'avion qui devient désastreuse selon la compagnie..🏴☠️

LE PROBLEME c'est qu'en Juillet ou Aout (période de vacances oblige) on économise facilement 2 à 300 euros par billet et pour peu que l'on voyage à 3, 4 ou 5

Nous, à part certains chauffeurs de taxis, on a trouvé les gens sympas à BKK, ce qui n'était pas toujours le cas à Koh Tao ( compagnie Songserm en particulier et GH de Tanote Bay).
Quand à la greenleaf et Kao Yai, on a adoré aussi.

Pas de soucis pour la mousson en juillet-aout, c'est vraiment pas embêtant. Généralement il fait beau la journée (ou un peu nuageux) et tres chaud. Et le soir il y a une GROSSE pluie, mais qui dure 10 minutes.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?
