Hi everyone! 👋 So happy to be back in this lovely space for meeting and chatting 😊 I’m planning a 5-6 day trip to the Cinque Terre between September and October, focusing on using the train to get between the villages. I’m coming from Nice, so I could head to Genoa first… Has anyone done this route? I’d love to hear your feedback, tips, and—of course—any great deals you’ve found! Thanks so much in advance 😊 Since then, I’ve traveled all over the world and would be thrilled to help others with just as much JOY 🤗

Hi there,

Taking the train is a popular choice for visiting the villages. Either way, you’ll be hiking or taking the train. From September to October, it’s a great time—there won’t be too many crowds. Trains run frequently between the villages. I recommend getting the MS train card for unlimited access. I’ve explained everything about transportation in the Cinque Terre in this post, including which trains to take, fares, schedules, and hikes between each village.

It’s better to stay in Levanto or La Spezia for more affordable rates rather than in one of the Cinque Terre villages.

Check out our travel journal for the Cinque Terre—it has lots of info like the budget to plan for, cost of living there, photos, and great restaurant recommendations...

Hi there. When it comes to trains, it's super easy! We took advantage of being in the area in May to visit the villages in one day (at a quick pace!). There are trains all day long 😊—getting around between the villages really isn’t a problem at all!

Hello,

Thanks for the detailed info on your Cinque Terre blog.

Even though I’ve already done a lot of planning (!), I was able to add some practical details...

Planning a trip for 3 adults from May 10 to 19, 2026. Flight arrives in Pisa late afternoon (same for return) + car rental: - 2 nights in Pisa (been before, but this time we’re taking it slow). - Monday: drive from Pisa to La Spezia (stopping to visit Viareggio and Carrara along the way). 6 nights in La Spezia. - Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday: visit the 5 villages + Levanto (by train/on foot/by boat). - Friday: explore the Poets’ Gulf by car (Porto Venere/Lerici/Tellaro). - Saturday: full day in La Spezia (castle, museums, port, historic center). Sounds great... - Sunday: drive to two castles we spotted to the north (Madrignano/Malaspina). - Monday: drive back to Pisa for a 3 PM flight.

Should be a fun trip. See you later!
