Hi everyone. I’m heading to Namibia in October and slowly planning my trip. I’ll be spending 2.5 days in the park and was wondering how to organize things to get the most out of Etosha. Routes, wildlife spots, campsites... knowing I’ll be in a 4x4 with a rooftop tent. Thanks in advance for your great tips!

Hello,

The best solution is to stay at the park’s campgrounds. They’re not very inviting, but they do have the advantage of having a water point.

Otherwise, for wildlife, the best approach is to circle the water points. I’m not sure if all of them are operational in October. I’d also recommend buying the park map. For more info, you can check out our travel journal here.

Hi there,

Yes, staying overnight in the campsites is the best option to maximize your time in the park, even if after 6-7 hours of scanning for animals, you start to get tired. The waterholes that are often the most visited are Aus (an artificial waterhole, often with elephants), Goas, Chudop, and Dik Dik Drive. There are more animals between Okaukuejo and Namutoni, but there are also more people.

The western part is really nice, with lots of herbivores and fewer crowds, but if you're leaving from Okaukuejo, it takes a full day to get there. North of Okaukuejo, there’s Okondeka, which attracts a lion pride, but it’s not guaranteed every time. Plus, it’s quite a few kilometers to get there and back.
