Don't go here if you are looking for a cleaned white sand beach!
* Get in
From Riohacha: car office ~12-15k to Uruiba
To go to Uribia/Cabo de la vela, collectivos/shared taxi from:
Cootraunidos: Riohacha - Uribia - Manaure, tel 728 0000 cels 310 368 1888 - 301 578 8989, Cl15/Kr7
(~40min Riohacha - crossing cuatro vias + to Uribia 30min)
from Uruiba market: jeep 12k w/o AC, 15k w AC (but few ones)(~1h30/back in early morning w no-stop to 3h/normal arriving, mostly unsealed road)
Advice if not before: buy water and fruits from Uruiba market (lot less choices in Cabo and a bit more expensive)
For Punta Gallinas, main option is tour but it seems there is some jeep which goes further the road but probably less frequent and not sure it goes up to Punta Gallinas. (Also, the one I saw in the morning was packed... "indian packed")
* Sleep
Most hostal in Cabo have only salt water shower, manual flush toilet (bucket)

Hospedaje Luzmilla
PNN La Macura, after Cabo de la Vela/before Punta Gallinas
* Do
Pilon de Azucar (5 000 one way by mototaxi, or 1h30 walking, shadowless path) : beautiful landscape and view over the desertic coast. Nice safe beach at the bottom of the hill.
Take much water if you plan to walk there, it's the desert after all...
El Faro : viewpoint for sunset and also you can swim down in Ojo de Agua : walk 1h or 5 000 by mototaxi.
Kite surfing, seems a world spot for here
Punta Gallinas: tour in jeep from 150k/pers (3p) to 100k/pers (7p) for 2d transport. Extra for meals/accomodation (2-3 hospedaje there). Optional tour in launcha/boat to see flamingos 80-100kCOP. There is also reserves where you can see Caiman or turtles if spending more time there. Playa, Faro and Duna/sunset.
* Drink
can get a beer (porta/venezuela) for ~1k in most places (2k at Punta Gallinas)
* Cope
Internet? nada
ATM? nada
Mobile phone: little coverage here. Best w Claro. Tigo in emergency mode only.
* Stay safe
if staying in hamac on the beach, pay attention to your valors. small theft reported (headlight, ...)
Also on remote path (like pilon), people can try to racket a bit of money. stay vigilant and avoid moving alone.
