Je voudrais savoir si l'un d'entre vous est allé et en Malaisie (surtout Bornéo) et aux Philippines. En fait, je voudrais une idée de la différence du cout de la vie (trek, chambres, transports). On hésite entre les deux puisque la Malaisie a l'air beaucoup plus cher......et on a un petit budget. On part 6 semaines. Nous sommes allés en Indonésie, est-ce que les Philippines sont comparables au niveau des prix? De plus, on dit que les philippines sont le joyau oublié de l'Asie du sud est...quels sont vos impressions?

je suis en malaisie depuis deux mois, et un de mes amis est a manille depuis 6 mois. Le cout de la vie est beaucoup moins cher a Manille qu a Kuala Lumpur. Ensuite au niveau des voyages je ne peux pas comparer car je n ai vu que la malaisie, mais selon mon ami, il y a beaucoup de choses a voir aux philippines, les iles sont magnifiques. Mais il a egalement beaucoup aime la Malaisie, donc c'est a toi de choisir!
Un jour une solde, un billet avion AR, Paris --> Manille.
Comme d'habitude, nous sommes partis, sac à dos. Même en arrivant à Manille, à 23 heures, nous ne savions pas ou aller coucher. Le taxi, nous as trouvés, mai nous avons regardés, la chambre avant.
Et de là, nous avons fait les îles. Les philippins sont géniaux.
De Manille, un matin nous plions bagage à la ghuesthouse, direct aéroport pour aller à Cebu.
Voyage an avion, complet pendant 3 jours. Je tiens à te signaler que je ne parle pas anglais.
A l'aéroport, tu as des Philippins qui te propose de prendre le bateau. Vite dit, vite fait, départ pour le port. Nous acons payé très cher "10 euros" par personne, nuit comprise, repas compris et la classe.

C'est aux Philippines, que j'ai vul es plus belles plages

Pour la Malaisie, effectivement le niveau de vie est plus élevé qu'en Indonesie par exemple (quoique) celà reste relatif car dans tous les cas, c'est nettement moins cher que chez nous.
Pour Bornéo, il existe des vols en Cie low cost de Kuala Lumpur pour Kota Kinabalu et cette cie est également à Bangkok.
KK, c'est assez moderne, sinon, dés que l'on fait quelques km à l'intérieur celà redevient sauvage.
Philipines = connait pas encore, mais attention où l'on met les pieds.
Alors que Malaisie = sécurité partout (mieux qu'en France)

Pour les vols Bangkok-Manille ou Cebu ou Davao, je n'arrive pas à trouver une compagnie aérienne. Avec air thai, c'est très cher et malheureusement, airasia ne semble pas le faire...Je voudrais réserver mes billets bientot pour ce vol, si quelqu'un a des infos la-dessus, j'apprécierais!!
Et pour la sécurité aux Philippines, tu me fais peur....as-tu connu des gens qui s'étaient retrouvés dans de mauvaises situations?

Sur est que les Phil sont magnifiques à parcourir, que le peuple est super sympa et qu'il ne t'en coutera pas cher.
Encore voir quand vous partez car tu parles de 6 sem mais quand ?

Repas à partir de 50 P si tu acceptes de manger comme un Phil dans un Turo-Turo = cuisine de mama. (Bcp de riz avec peu de viande ou de légumes)
Sinon entre 100 et 200 P pour un repas très correct

Nous on est resté 5 sem et on a fait tt le tour de laguna bay + le lac taal (5J), Bohol (chocolat hills + le reste) 1+5, siquijor 4j, cebu 2j, puis on est remonté sur masbate, Pilar et le mont Mayon (une semaine) puis retour à Bulacan dans la famille de mon épouse. (8 jours)

Perso je me suis fait avoir dans le metro a Manille (Wallet) Pick pocket, ils sont bien organisés.
Mais c aussi de notre faute, on était en retard a un RV et sous l'empressement, distrait et oui mon portefeuille était dans ma poche révolver là ou je le met ici...et voilà...Comme il y a un monde fou dans ce métro, c'était fais avant mm d'y avoir pensé !!!
De toute manière Pour moi Manille est a voir une fois (2J) et puis au plus vite parti au mieux.
C très polué, circulation comme nulle part ailleurs, ect...en bref affreux
Cebu c pas comme ca, bcp mieux.
Mtt si tu te promenes sans afficher tes richesses crois moi tu n'as abolument rien a craindre.

Au sujet des treks (volcans ou montagnes) t'en connais qui sont bien? Pas d'escalade mais une montagne dont on se rappelle...😉
Et puis, mon copain a entendu qu'on pouvait faire du snorkeling avec les requins baleines?! Et pour l'apnée en général, il doit y avoir de nombreux paradis marins?🙂

Coté Volcan, personnellment je ne sais pas trop mais à voir les photos récoltés sur le net, je pense que le Pinatubo (voir mon site) semble en effet pas mal. Seule restriction: ne pas vous y rendre s'y pleut.
Les rivières montent très vites labas et vous pourriez être coincé. (Voir reçit d'autres inernautes)
A faire en même temps de que rizières car tout est au Nord de manille.
Perso je vous conseillerais de faire J1: Manille - Lac Taal à voir absolument mais attention endroit très cher...(Ils savent et profitent un max du tourisme)
Queqlues conseils:
1. Ne jamais montrer que vous êtes presser.
2. Essayer de vous arranger avec d'autres touristes; histoire de faire un petit groupe (6 à 8 P) ...le prix par personnes sera plus intéressant.
3. (Traversée en bateau (catamaran) 3000 P + chevaux sur place de 500 à 700 par tête) + pourboires et j'en passe.
4. Ne pas rester à Tagaytay pour loger car très cher. (24€ par pers en moyenne)
5. Redoubler de vigilence s'il pleut.
J1 en fin d'APM de te rendre direct à Pagsanjan (2 hrs en bus) pour la descente des rapides sauf quand il pleut trop fort car c fermé.
J2 tot le matin cette fameuse descente puis APM Rv à Los banos pour leurs bains thermaux
En soirée, sourtout ne pas raté de déguster leur crabbes de 1, 2 Kg (max 6€) prix chez l'habitant.
J3: Profité de vous relaxer et fin d'APM retour sur Manille.
J4 à J8 bus pour Banaue: les risières et le pinatubo (voir ma page) tout y est.
J9 Bateau vers Tagbilaran, Palawan, Cebu, enfin tout ou l'avion.
A partir de là vous n'avez que l'embaras du choix.
Tu peux aussi inverser J1 à J3 et du la taal descendre sur la cote (Batangas) pour le snorkeling...
Je sais qu'il y en a.
Mont mayon, j'ai qlq photos prises au loin et je sais qu'il organise un trip de 3 ou 4 jours pour monter au sommet. Perso qd nous sommes arrivés à Bicol (12 septembre 2005), la pluie nous attendait et hélas nous sommes restés bloqué à l'hotel 4 jours. On ne savait plus ou étaient les chemins ou routes secondaires et les rivières. Cela coulaient de partout.
Le Pesos est actuellement à 60.
Par rapport aux dates, vous devriez avoir qd mm du soleil. mais le temps change très vite la bas.
Car vous y aller qd mm pendant l'automne.
Il pleut donc mais bon comme c de l'eau chaude c'est l'occasion de prendre des douches. 😉
La vie sur place
Un salaire moyen est d'environ 68€ par mois pour une famille bien souvent de 3 à 6 pers.
Et les Phil y arrivent...comment mistère ?
Mais j'en connais pas mal qui ne gagnent que 15 à 30€ par mois.
Alors voilà...si tu restes sur place, c'est possible de vivre avec très peu.
Ce qui te coutera le plus je pense c'est le transport (Bateau, avion, taxi environ 1500 P par jour, FX, Jeepney, tricycle) sourtout si vous voulez voir beaucoup. Les bus "peu conforatbles" ne sont pas cher (en moyenne 6€ pour 200 Km) mais tu comptes de 8 à 10 heures pour le trajet.
Comparativement en taxi (max 3 heures - arrêt ou et qd tu veux + air con) - Donc fait bien tes comptes car le temps c de l'argent.
Si vous êtes deux, un taxi te coutera le double du bus mais tu le regagne bien en temps.
Sur les iles, je vous conseille de louer des motos (300 à 400 la journée), t'es libre et c pas cher mais faut pas se perdre.
Coté snokeling la hélas, je n'y connais rien mais bien sur les ressorts proposent tout un tas d'activité allant dans ce sens
J'en parle un peu sur mon site.
Il est sur que comme il y a 7000 iles, c'est surement pas les coins qui manquent encore faut-il savoir OU ?
En lisant d'autres recits, beaucoup vente l'ile de palawan...

Bien que me rendant souvent aux Philippines, ce n'est sans doute pas le dernier joyau de
l' ASEAN touristiquement parlant, j'ai visité d' autres pays de la région qui avaient plus
à offrir.....Question prix ça sera plus chère que l' Indonésie, mais beaucoup moins que
la Malaisie, les infrastructures sont aussi pas les mêmes .
Sinon question sécurité dans les grandes villes rien à craindre de majeur, même précautions
que dans les grandes villes occidentales, moi je trouve Paris où je réside habituellement
beaucoup plus dangereux que Manille !
Pour rejoindre Bangkok à Manille, le moins chère doit être Cebu Pacific, low cost très bien
avec airbus neufs...pour Cebu en low cost il faudra transiter par Kuala ou Singapour, je
l'ai fait il y a peu depuis cette dernière ville, les correspondances y sont
faciles sans stop nécessaire.

Tu as l'université "Universiti Malaya" là où la plupart des étudiants étrangers vont, niveau correct, université publique.
Sinon il y a le Taylors College à Subang Jaya, université privée, sans doute la meilleure de Malaisie (en tout cas selon un ami qui y travaille).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

Family of 4—2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 15) who are well-traveled.
We’re planning a 15-day trip to Indonesia and would love your thoughts on our itinerary.
We love discovering local culture, food (!!), seeing beautiful landscapes, and keeping an active pace. We’re not the type to lounge on the beach for 5 hours or spend ages by the pool when we’re halfway across the world. Also, we try to avoid places "ruined" by mass tourism (like Holbox in Mexico, which we loved 10 years ago but not at all on our last visit, or Phi Phi in Thailand, completely destroyed by mass tourism).
Special note: we love traveling by train :)
