Août est en saison cyclonique. En général, la période la plus risquée est en spt/octobre. Mais avec Madame Grenouille, c'est difficle de savoir... Toute personne qui vous dira le contraire a soit des informations "extra"ordinaires, soit envie (pour des raisons diverses) de vous convaincre que le risque cyclonique est nul plutôt que faible !!!

Moi je vous suggère le Playa Pesquero, si vous enfants font de la plongée en apnée, c'est l'endroit idéal. A même la plage vous pourrez voir un banc de corail sur la pointe en face de l'hotel et de plus vous pouvez faire du pédalo, catamaran, planche à voile, kayak de mer tout est inclus dans le prix que vous payez à votre départ. De plus, le personnel est très attentionné auprès des enfants, il y a même des spectacles le soir pour eux. Il y a une piscine immense et un endroit spécifique avec table de ping-pong, jeux d'échecs géants...Un petit train fait le tour du site et il n'est pas rare de voir le soir des petites familles les enfants en pyjamas faire un dernier tour avant d'aller se coucher. Ah oui, un endroit très apprécié des enfants, c'est le kiosque de crème glacée qui est sur le chemin de la plage, tout est gratuit. J'en serai à mon 6e voyage à cet hôtel depuis oct. 2007, le 18 avril 2010, il faut donc dire que c'est OK. Si vous choisissez cet hôtel je vous suggère d'aller chez Costco acheter palmes et masques et aussi appareil photos jetables qui vont sous l'eau, les enfants rapporteront de superbes souvenirs...Pour le risque des tempêtes tropicales, partez sans crainte, j'y suis allée en juillet, en octobre, en mars et il faut dire que la saison des pluies est de juin à novembre, alors j'ai jamais eu de journée complête de pluie, seulement une averse d'environ 15 de temps en temps...mais lors de mon voyage en juillet, aucune goutte de pluie, ça faisait même 4 mois qu'il n'avait eu de pluie.
L'entrée dans la mer est en pente douce et je vous le recommande sans hésiter...C'est un hôtel avec plus de 940 chambres et il y a 7 restos ouverts sur le site, le midi pour diner vous avez le choix entre 4, et j'ai jamais attendu pour diner ou souper. Vous avez droit à 4 restos à la carte que vous réservez le lendemain de votre arrivée, moi je vous suggère, le Romantico, l'Asiatico, Le Gondola et le Seafood qui est ouvert le midi et c'est celui situé sur le bord de la mer ou vous aurez droit à un magnifique coucher de soleil tout en soupant. Bon voyage, vous aussi vous aurez la piqure, et le seul remêde connu est d'y retourner...
Vous remarquerez que la mer est turquoise et est claire sans aucune algue...
PS: en juillet c'était très chaud, mais comme la mer est proche ou la piscine, il faisait 40-42oC vers 15h00 mais il y a possibilité d'être à l'ombre si c'est trop chaud on allait à la piscine ou c'était un peu plus frais pour finir l'après-midi.
Effectivement c'est plus ou moins risqué. Il y a 2 ans, il y a eu un record d'ouragans avec 11 ou 14 plus sûr.
Tout le monde se faisait de la bile avec les communication, leurs familles, etc...
L'an dernier, rien , zit, kapout, nada. Allez savoir.
Par contre je ne me suis jamais fait avoir en août, plusieurs vous le confirmeront ici.
Disons fin août au plus tôt, mais généralement septembre et plus. Remarquez qu'il n'y a pas eu de neige et d'hiver au Québec cette année. Et nous avons eu une semaine de printemps record il y a 2-3 semaines.

Pas trop de détails à ajouter. En tout cas, ne vous inquiétez pas. Le pays a une organisation remarquable face aux ouragans. La population en général et les touristes aussi sont protégés contre les effets des tempêtes et des vagues. Dans la pire des saisons, il n'y a eu que 7 morts... c'est terrible, mais c'est très peu par rapport aux pertes humaines dans les autres pays de la Caraïbe.

I’ve planned a three-week itinerary for this summer, from August 9 to 27, in Sri Lanka:
Negombo – 1 night
Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle – 4 nights
Kandy – 2 nights
Ella – 3 nights
Tangalle – 6 nights
Colombo Airport – 1 night
I know this isn’t the ideal time for the south since the beach conditions aren’t great, but we’ve booked a hotel with a pool and won’t be swimming in the sea. We want to relax after all the travel since we’re bringing our two kids, aged 6 and 8.
I know the east would be better, but (i) I’m struggling to find suitable accommodation, and (ii) it adds a lot of travel time, and my kids can only handle about 3 hours at a stretch.
I looked into Arugam Bay, but it’s a 7-hour trip back to Colombo from there.
I’ve checked every weather site imaginable, but they don’t all agree. Do you think we’ll spend our whole trip in the rain, or is the monsoon in the south mostly limited to the sea, as I’ve read?
I’m worried about ending up in the middle of a natural disaster with my two young kids, given recent events.

We’re more drawn to the Andes, exploring colonial cities, typical villages, markets, and a bit of the coast. We’ve already gotten a taste of this in Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile. Plus, we’d love to do part of it by car since we’re used to driving at our own pace and stopping whenever we feel like it. Anyway, time’s running out, and I need to decide so I can finalize a route and book the tickets!!

Just giving you the quick context: A group of friends and I are planning a trip to South Korea (Seoul/Busan) at the end of June/July next year. It falls right in the middle of the monsoon season, but we don’t really have other availability options.😕
I’d love to hear from people who’ve visited the country and these cities during this period—basically, is it not as bad as it sounds, or should we just cancel our tickets (we don’t mind the heat, it’s mostly the rain that scares us).
I know there are plenty of indoor activities, but do you think we’ll still manage to get a few sunny days, or will it be torrential rain for our entire 2-week trip?
The only other country we’ve visited during the rainy season is Brazil (in the northeast) around the same time, and honestly, aside from a few really annoying downpours, we had sunshine most of the time and it was awesome. That said, the climate is totally different, so I’m not sure how relevant the comparison is.

Personally, I see a promising opportunity here—jumping on this adaptation to extreme climates before others do, since they’re inevitably coming.
From my own travel experience, I’ve met a few guides so far who are starting to adjust, like in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, and elsewhere.
They avoid crowds and the hottest hours by starting their tours around 6–7 AM, when it’s cooler.
Yeah, you’ve gotta wake up early, but the payoff is so worth it. 😴
