Existe-t-il des possibilités d'hébergement (chez l'habitant) dans les villages flottants ? Je voudrai photographier tout ça du lever au coucher - et plus si affinité. J'y serai fin mars, est ce que ça ne sera pas trop marée basse (saison sèche) ?
J'ai vu qu'il y avait plusieurs villages, est ce qu'ils ont tous la même allure ? ou est ce qu'il y en a un plus important ou particulier qu'un autre ?
quand tu les auras vus les villages flottants du Tonlé Sap , tu n'auras plus envie d'y dormir ... c'est la misère à tous étages, la vrai misère, ils essayent de survivre et c'est dur d'avoir de l'eau potable.A part ça pour la balade en bateau pas de pb, ton taxi te dépose à coté de l'embarcadaire, tu n'as fait que passer devant les masures...
Si tu veux te faire un joli village flottant , pars en Thailande à Ko Panee pres de Phang gna!
Grand merci pour ton conseil, effectivement Phang Gna n'a pas la même allure c'est le moins qu'on puisse dire !! Mais photographier des gens manifestement heureux et souriants dans un cadre idylique ne m'apporte rien. Le même sourire - à défaut d'être "heureux" - dans un environement difficile a une toute autre résonnance. Ce n'est évidemment pas la misère qui m'intéresse (gulp...) mais la force qui est au-delà et la manière dont la vie s'organise malgré ce qui nous semble totalement insurmontable. Là j'ai de quoi photographier et ramener des photographies qui ont - à mon avis - un sens.
Et donc si je ne fais que traverser les villages depuis mon bateau-bus je ne pourrai rien faire, c'est pour ça que je cherche une option "de l'intérieur" et photographier le dentiste, le coiffeur, la station service, les flics qui font la circulation, les nénettes qui se font ch... à faire les courses pendant que les mecs font la sièste, bref tout ce qu'on retrouve sur terre avec les clapotis et les moustiques cambodgiens en plus. Il y a manifestement + 80 000 personnes qui vivent sur Tonlé Sap et ça m'interpelle la rétine...
Si tu trouves un hébergement tu nous raconteras avec photos. Ça enrichira le forum, on est curieux des expérience des autres qu on pas envie de tester!
J'avais été du côté de Siem Reap flâner dans les villages flottants du Tonlé Sap.
C un peu loin de la ville mais pas du tout touristique. J'ai croisé personne de 7h du matin à 18h le soir...
Il y a une vraie vie fascinante sur l'eau. Des scènes de vie dans tous les sens. Un spectacle passionnant. Un de mes coups de coeur au Cambodge.
Tu pourras déjeuner et dormir chez une famille. Il faudra payer par contre. Sûrement une misère...
Je connais quelqu'un qui pourrait t'y emmener (Tuk-Tuk + barque pour arriver dans le village).
Il faudra que tu l'invites et tu lui payes la journée d'accompagnement. Mais c'est peu de choses comparé aux moments inoubliables que tu vas passer.

A Preak Toal, qq chambres ( sommaires) ont été aménagées dans un bâtiment récent, juste à côté de l'entrée où l'on délivre les tickets d'accès à la réserve ornithologique. Ensuite vous devrez vous débrouillez en louant les services d'une coque de noix ( ce qui n'est pas un probleme) pour pouvoir vous déplacer d'une construction à l'autre. De mémoire, il me semble qu'il n'y avait pas de moustiquaires, à prévoir donc , car les bestioles sont virulentes dans le secteur. Pour la nourriture pas de prb, de petits resto bateaux mais qui cuisinent avec ....l'eau du lac. Des amis khmers qui m'accompagnaient avaient refusé d'essayer, c'est dire ...Mais cela changera peut etre car des jarres filtrantes viennent d'être distribuées dans le village.
Enfin bref pas simple, mais pas infaisable non plus.
Salut, je ne sais pas où tu peux dormir, mais c'est sùr qu'on ne pas comparer le Cambodge et la Thailande.
J'ai fait des photos sur le tonlé sap, c'est vraiment magnifique, les cambodgiens sont très photogéniques.
Mais il faut un appareil puissant pour les prendre sans qu'ils ne posent.
Tu as les enfants qui jouent, ceux qui se rendent à l'école en barque, la station service flottante, les pecheurs au filet ou à l'épervier, etc....
J'ai fait plus de photos en 10 jours au Cambodge qu'en 20 en Thailande.
Vas au bout de ton idée, tu ne regretteras pas.

IIIIII, T'as un peu de temps pour vider ta boite à chaussure avec tous les bouts de papier, je pars dans un mois pile poil (24 mars), en gros j'atteris à 7h à BKK je vais direct à Siem reap pour 3j, puis les villages flottants le temps qu'il faut (3j) puis direct sur le Laos les yeux fermés, de peur de craquer sur un autre coin et m'arreter quelques jours de plus. A la base je pars photographier le nouvel an boudiste à Luang Prabang mi avril, principalement les Laossiens qui se fouttent des bassines d'eau à travers la gueule toute la journée. Ce type de petage de plomb m'interpelle. Du coup j'ai un sac/caisson étanche à 5m pour l'appareil, pas facile de photographier avec mais pas le choix. Ce qui me permettra de m'amuser coté cadrage dans les villages flottants sans me demander si un Canon ça rouille ou pas.
En revenant sur ton guide pas de souci pour manger ensemble (et sa prime de guide, au fait avec une fourchette large c'est quoi une prime de guide pour un gars qui rame pour moi du matin au soir ) bien au contraire, vu que ce sont mes premiers pas dans la région, je vais surement beaucoup apprendre à son contact. Pour le trombinoscope, sa photo va m'aider mais c'est surtout à la tienne que je pensais (mais bien sûr uniquement s'il y a des chances qu'il te reconnaisse).

La Lovely GH travaille avec des tuk tuk anglophones mais, contrairement à ce que vous ecrivez, peut parfaitement vous mettre en contact avec des chauffeurs de tuk francophones. Simplement, ceux- ci sont beaucoup moins nombreux (donc moins disponibles) et aussi plus cher.
Pour info: je tiens à préciser que Sam de Battambang est bien présent puisque j'ai réservé deux chambres du 15 mars au 18 mars simplement si je ne me trompe pas il sera absent du 9 au 16 mars car je fais la visite guidée avec lui le 17 et le 18 mars.
J'en suis sure car j'ai modifié mais date avec lui car au départ je voulais séjourner chez lui du 13 au 16 mars et il m'a expliqué que la maison serait ouverte mais que lui il serait absent pour une semaine et qu'il ne pourrait pas assister aux visites.
Du coup, j'ai vu avec lui pour modifier mon voyage.
Mais ce n'est pas sympa d'écrire "le voyage SRP Battambang pas un bon plan, Sam est pas là" car tu ne précises pas les dates de son absence. Ainsi tu mets le doute chez les personnes qui ont déjà réservé elles peuvent avoir le sentiment que sam sera absent lorsqu'ils viendront.
De plus meme si Sam est absent pour une semaine je pense d'après les photos que j'ai vu sur son blog qu'un détour par Battambang peut être interessant il doit y avoir des chauffeurs de tuk tuk qui parle français ou anglais et qui peuvent nous faire visiter meme si les visites seront surement différentes par rapport à ceux que propose Sam mais cette ville et sa campagne ont l'air magnifique.
Rien qu'en regardant les photos j'ai hate d'y être.

Ce sont de petites habitations genre une grande pièce ou toute la famille vit et dort.Peut-être dans les guides tu peut trouver ? autrement bon voyage au pays du sourire, les gens sont adorables, salutations, roland

Désolé Carole je n'ai rien pour toi, J'ai pris l'option la plus brute (à coté de Krakor sur les conseils précis et pertinents de Roger) et je n'ai pas eu de chance (au pire de la saison sèche c'est misère et désolation). Il a fallu passer au plan B (Laos). Par contre je suis resté 4j à Angkor à Motherhome guest house et de mon mois de vadrouille (Cambodge / Laos et au final Bangkok bloqué 6j par le nuage de cendre) je n'ai jamais trouvé un équivalent qualité prix qui arrivait à la cheville. et de très loin. Il y a assurément moins cher mais avec un tel rapport qualité prix j'ai pas trouvé. Vélo gratos, tuk tuk vers ou depuis la gare de bus gratos, internet (5 PC) gratos etc...
je passe 2js a Angkor et 4js au bord du lac tonlé je n'ai ni guide ni endroit pour dormir si vous pouvez me renseigner quand je serais les 4js au Lac.
Aucun hebergement sur le lac à l'exception de Prek Toal dont j'ai déjà parlé au debut de ce post( hbergement sommaire, remontez à l'origine du post). Ne partez pas à l'aveugle d'autant que c'est la saison des pluies et que vous ne pourrez installer votre moustiquaire en plein air. Le Cambodge n'est pas l'Europe et pour pouvoir jouer les Robinson, il faut prendre des des précautions. Trouver un guide pour dormir dans la nature sera très difficile, à fortiori en saison des pluies.
Vous pouvez en revanche visiter des villages dans la journée depuis SR ce que je vous conseille fortement compte tenu de la météo.
A SR, la Lovely GH ( francophone) est confortable et a l'habitude d'organiser ces balades à la journée.
A priori possible de dormir dans ce village flottant, quelqu' un sait il dans quel type d hébergement et a quel prix environ pour 2 personnes? (Nous y serons…

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. Does anyone know of a private transfer or taxi company that organizes transfers from the Sukhothai area to Chiang Mai?
Our routes are Sukhothai-Lampang, Lampang-Chom Thong, and Chom Thong-Chiang Mai.

For our Bangkok-Sukhothai trips, I use a company I’ve already tried, but they don’t have a fleet available from Sukhothai and have to go through third-party companies—which, understandably, take their commission. This nearly doubles the prices...

My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!
Sandakan → Sepilok:
No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
Where do I board, and where does it drop me off?

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
