Nous projetons de partir le mois prochain (du 19/2 au 3/3) aux States, en commençant par Chicago (5j) puis prendre la voiture et finir par NY où nous avons des amis. Le séjour à Chicago à cette prériode vous parait possible avec le climat qui y règne ? Et la route entre nos 2 points de chute prévus est elle envisageable (voiture de loc) ? Nous serons 4 (nous + 2 de nos enfants de 15 & 7 ans).
Somme nous tout à fait ou juste un peu déraisonnables ?
Heu c'était de l'humour face au terme employé de "vivable"
Les phénomènes climatiques sont de partout imprévisibles : j'habite Montpellier et avec 1 cm de neige toutes les routes sont bloquées, idem pour les épisodes de pluie Cèvenol, ce n'est pas pour cela que l'endroit est invivable....
Si on tient compte de tous les cas particuliers, je ne vois pas quand partir....Les habitants de Chicago travaillent, vont à l'école etc durant tout l'hiver, et les services du Comté ont les équipements pour faire fasse aux chutes de neige. Mais c'est clair que ce n'est pas le meilleur mois pour se balader et pique niquer....
On cherche souvent "à faire peur" aux Européens avec les hivers nord-américains.
Il y a toujours une mince possibilité d'une tempête de neige qui vous immobiliserait 1-2 jours (mais quel beau souvenir à rapporter dans vos valises!) dans la région des Grands Lacs (quand vous verrez la taille du lac Michigan -et ce n'est pas le plus vaste ds 5 lacs- vous comprendrez mieux) mais il ne faut pas paniquer. Ça ne se produit pas à tous les hivers et encore moins à toutes les semaines.
Soyez bien vêtus car le vent vient de loin à Chicago, la ville des vents!
L'ennemi est l'humidité des grandes villes en hiver.
Les voitures de location sont équipées de pneus à neige.
Faut juste conduire un peu plus prudemment: gardez une distance sécuritaire avec la voiture qui vous précède, évitez les accélérations et freinages brusques: conduire en douceur, ...et veillez à ne pas manquer de liquide lave-vitre)

Le froid a été "supportable" ou cela a-t-il un peu gaché votre séjour?
Je me tate pour février également... je sais que ce n'est pas la période la plus recommandée, mais j'ai fait NY cette année à cette période et c'était super (mais peut etre avons nous eu de la chance, car froid mais pas de pluie), du coup ça me tente bien! (et puis on choisit pas toujours ses vacances...)
Peut etre également d'autres avis?
De plus autre question, j'ai lu un témoignage sur internet de quelqu'un qui disait que les croisieres en hiver n'avait pas lieu. Mais sur leur site je n'ai rien vu de marqué, qu'en est-il?

Je n'y avais même pas pensé, faut dire qu'en voyant les photos il me parait tellement immense que je ne l'imaginais pas en patinoire!
Allez visiter Moscou et sa Place Rouge, vous y retrouverez le même climat et en prime on vous offrira peut-être une rencoutre privée avec M. Poutine...
Blague à part, Chicago à éviter dès la mi-octobre, c'est venteux, froid mais surtout humide à vous traverser le corps le temps d'une chanson.
Idem pour New-York, Central Park sous un pied de neige ça ne vous tentera surement pas.
Par contre de mai à septembre quelle jolie ville à découvrir....
il y a beaucoup (trop) de foreumeurs qui ne donnent jamais de retours sur leur probleme. (Euh, je crois que moi aussi je suis un peu negligeant sur ce point🤪🤪)
Je ne crois pas que ce soit plaisant pour y être en visite / touriste surtout pour un européen.
Il est vrai qu'il faut se méfier de la windy city, et que février, n'est pas la meilleure période de visites, surtout pour les visites pleins airs 🤪 . Le temps peut être glacial, la cagoule, l'écharpe, la doudoune, les gants, le pull sont de mises, mais, comme je cite AnSia :

Je ne crois pas que l'hiver soit pire qu'à NY? mais j'avoue je n'en sais rien. Et si AnSia ne peut qu'en février, je pense qu'elle peut trouver des choses à faire en intérieur, il y a pleins de musées, des grands malls, à faire dans la windy city. Chicago est une belle ville, même en hiver.

En tout cas je confirme que NYC en février je le referai sans hésiter! Et concernant le froid, j'ai trouvé agréable de se balader dans central park, il suffit de bien se couvrir! Après c'est sur que j'y avais passé + de temps quand j'y suis allée au mois de septembre, en février j'ai fait plus de shopping! 😉😉

We want to do a few safaris, visit villages, the mountains, see tea plantations, etc. But we also want to see turtles. We love snorkeling but aren’t experts—we’re just happy to see colorful fish and coral. We’ve always wanted to see turtles too, so the idea is still to see *something* underwater 😊

I’ve planned a three-week itinerary for this summer, from August 9 to 27, in Sri Lanka:
Negombo – 1 night
Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle – 4 nights
Kandy – 2 nights
Ella – 3 nights
Tangalle – 6 nights
Colombo Airport – 1 night
I know this isn’t the ideal time for the south since the beach conditions aren’t great, but we’ve booked a hotel with a pool and won’t be swimming in the sea. We want to relax after all the travel since we’re bringing our two kids, aged 6 and 8.
I know the east would be better, but (i) I’m struggling to find suitable accommodation, and (ii) it adds a lot of travel time, and my kids can only handle about 3 hours at a stretch.
I looked into Arugam Bay, but it’s a 7-hour trip back to Colombo from there.
I’ve checked every weather site imaginable, but they don’t all agree. Do you think we’ll spend our whole trip in the rain, or is the monsoon in the south mostly limited to the sea, as I’ve read?
I’m worried about ending up in the middle of a natural disaster with my two young kids, given recent events.

This year, 2026, I can only get away in April and May. I never travel during these months usually, and from what I know, they aren’t the best for India. But in such a big country, there are always spots that are better than others weather-wise.

I’ve looked into a few different options: Brazil, Cambodia, and Ecuador. The last one really appeals to me, but what’s making me hesitate is the risk of our trip being a bit too rainy (literally ),
We’re more drawn to the Andes, exploring colonial cities, typical villages, markets, and a bit of the coast. We’ve already gotten a taste of this in Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile. Plus, we’d love to do part of it by car since we’re used to driving at our own pace and stopping whenever we feel like it. Anyway, time’s running out, and I need to decide so I can finalize a route and book the tickets!!

I’ve planned a trip to Asia for the first half of November.
I’ll arrive in Singapore at the start of November for about 3 days, and I’ll leave from Bangkok in mid-November.
In between, I’d like to gradually head north to visit some less touristy islands on the Thai coast.

Just giving you the quick context: A group of friends and I are planning a trip to South Korea (Seoul/Busan) at the end of June/July next year. It falls right in the middle of the monsoon season, but we don’t really have other availability options.😕
I’d love to hear from people who’ve visited the country and these cities during this period—basically, is it not as bad as it sounds, or should we just cancel our tickets (we don’t mind the heat, it’s mostly the rain that scares us).
I know there are plenty of indoor activities, but do you think we’ll still manage to get a few sunny days, or will it be torrential rain for our entire 2-week trip?
The only other country we’ve visited during the rainy season is Brazil (in the northeast) around the same time, and honestly, aside from a few really annoying downpours, we had sunshine most of the time and it was awesome. That said, the climate is totally different, so I’m not sure how relevant the comparison is.

Not sure if guidebooks, agencies, and other tour operators are keeping up by changing their visiting hours and offerings.
Personally, I see a promising opportunity here—jumping on this adaptation to extreme climates before others do, since they’re inevitably coming.
From my own travel experience, I’ve met a few guides so far who are starting to adjust, like in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, and elsewhere.
They avoid crowds and the hottest hours by starting their tours around 6–7 AM, when it’s cooler.
Yeah, you’ve gotta wake up early, but the payoff is so worth it. 😴
If you’ve got any great tips like this, why not discuss them in this thread and share addresses or websites where the people in charge have realized climate change is real and are adapting? 😊
