Cet été , au mois de juillet, nous partons en famille avec des enfants de 7 et 8ans voir une tante à mon épouse Nous allons en profiter pour voir les parcs de l'ouest américain. J'avais notament prévu dans mon circuit de faire Ridgecrest-> death valley--> las vegas et le lendemain Las vegas --> zion --> Bryce (2 nuits) mais j'ai appris que la rout e entre zion et bryce serait fermée. Alors est-ce sympa de faire à la place Las vegas --> valley of fire --> Bryce (2 nuits)

Je confirme, Valley Of Fire vaut le coup. C'est un parc avec beaucoup de belles couleurs et finalement assez peu fréquenté.
Nous n'y avons passé que peu de temps l'année dernière (environ 2h), si c'était à refaire, j'y consacrerai un laps de temps plus long.
Dans ton cas, en voulant aller à Zion en venant de Las Vegas, cela ne crée pas trop de problème. C'est plus embêtant pour ceux qui viennent de Bryce et qui veulent aller à Zion.
Car le problème des travaux se situe à l'entrée Est du parc et pas à l'entrée Sud!
Je m'explique: le temps de faire la route jusque Zion et de visiter ce parc , tu ne quitteras pas ce parc avant 18H... et à cette heure -là la route qui quitte le parc pour aller à Bryce est à nouveau ouverte (ben ... oui... les ouvriers arrêtent de travailler à cette heure-là!)
Mais pour répondre à ta question: Si tu veux quand même zapper Zion, oui Valley of Fire est magnifique (rochers rouges) et ne ressemble pas du tout à la Death Valley (pas de roches rouges!)... et tu peux contourner Zion par le nord pour t'arrêter aussi à Cedar Breaks avant de rejoindre Bryce

En ayant lu vos réponses je me demande même si, comme le dit à juste titre jacqueline, je ne serai pas géné par la fermeture de la route il ne serai pas plus dépaysant pour nous qui vivont dans les Pyrénnées de voir valley of fire et cedar breaks plutôt que zion. Pensez vous que ce raisonnement tient la route ou est-il complétement bidon.
Valley of Fire vaut bien le détour. En 2008 nous y avons passé plus de 4h00, sans randonnée.
Par contre, contrairement à ce que dit Papy59, c'est bien un désert.
Enchainer par Cedar break est une bonne idée avant de rejoindre Bryce
Cedar Break est en altitude, nous l'avions vu dans une tempête de neige, fin mai 2008.
Mais autant Valley of Fire, que Cedar Break que Zion ou Bryce tous n'ont rien à voir avec les paysages des Pyrénées , mais alors rien de rien.
Cedar break a des similitudes avec Bryce comme genre de paysages.

Valley of Fire fut un de mes moments fort de mon dernier séjour à Vegas!
C'est magnifique! J'en ai pas profité pour faire des randonnés ou quoi que ce soit... Mais seulement de prendre un petit 2h et de s'y ballader en voiture, c'est quelque chose de dépaysant!

Ben...là tu as ttes les cartes en main... On en est tous réduit au même dilemme: choisir l'un au détriment de l'autre!...ou rajouter des jours... ou prévoir un autre voyage🙂!
Pour t'aider à choisir: n'oublie pas que Valley of Fire se visite très tôt le matin (ou à partir de 17H)
Tout dépend donc si vs saurez vous lever suffisamment tôt pour quitter Las Vegas vers 7H du matin!

Non je n'ai pas prévu d'y passer plus tard, mais Jacqueline a raison je vais preparer les deux itineraires et je verrai comment sont les enfants pour faire mon choix le matin même.

Non, le planning est déjà trop serré! Je serai en provenance d'Escalante donc la route sera longue jusqu'à Vegas... D'autant plus que passant devant Bryce, même si je l'ai déjà fait, il sera dur de ne pas aller au moins jeter un œil à l'amphithéâtre 😎.
J'ai prévu également un petit détour pour voir Cedar Breaks National Monument.
Donc ça m'étonnerait vraiment que nous ayions aussi le temps de faire aussi le petit détour par Valley Of Fire.
Tout comme le GPS, celui là je le retiens, il essayait de nous envoyer sur des pistes qui n'existaient pas, depuis Shoshones pour aller sur Furnace, il ne faisait que dire tourner à droite, tourner à droite (au milieu de nulle part) et calcul en retour. Nous avons fini par le fermer 😉

Je suppose que tu as bien écris Shoshone(s) sans le S car c'est pas ici sinon 😎 et pour Furnace, faut préciser Creek car il y aussi un autre Furnace + au Sud dans DV 😛

Lorsque je rentre cet itinéraire sur google maps il m'indique 280 miles et 6h de route. Ca me parait jouable même avec des arrêts pour admirer les paysages (et manger quand même ...)
En partant tôt de Las Vegas, c'est possible de faire un petit crochet par Valley of Fire en faisant uniquement les points de vue de la rainbow vista road plus deux ou trois endroits situés sur le bord de la route. C'est un peu dommage de ne pas y faire de balades, mais quand on n'a pas le temps...
Ensuite uniquement traverser Zion par la route 9 en faisant la petite marche de Canyon overlook (1h aller/retour max) et puis le reste de la route jusqu'à Bryce.
Ça fait beaucoup de route et peu de visite, mais visiblement tu as l'air d'être au courant...😉

Oui et tu peux même ajouter Escalante et Capitol Reef, c'est dans le coin de Bryce, en une journée ça peut le faire en roulant bien et en faisant des bons temps aux ravitaillements...
Non, c'est du grand n'importe quoi, à mon sens de Vegas à Bryce il faut une semaine en profitant des points d'intérêts au Sud de Zion (Water Canyon, Snow Canyon...)

Malheureusement je n'ai pas de possibilité de récupérer du temps ailleurs. On devra donc quoi qu'il en soit faire Vegas --> Bryce en une journée. On verra sur place si on fait quelques détours ou si on reste raisonnable, ça dépendra aussi de notre forme 😉
C'est fou : on n'est pas encore parti et j'envisage déjà un second séjour dans quelques années pour approfondir des coins qu'on n'aura fait que traverser trop rapidement ou qu'on n'aura pas eu le temps de visiter. Ca doit être le virus qui s'installe 🙂

Valley Of Fire est un magnifique State Park, peu visité, facile. Compter quelques heures, mais plutôt en fin de journée (couleur), ou le matin (température).
En pleine journée, c'est un peu moins bien, mais il faut quand même y aller (il faut plus de courage pour les ballades à pied, mais de l'auto, on a déjà une belle vue).
Id pour Cedar Breaks, qui vaut le coup (deux heures peuvent suffir à donner un apperçu)
Je ne savais pas que la route à l'Est de Zion était encore en travaux cette année. Car elle l'a été très longtemps l'an dernier. Cela commence à bien faire.

A chaque fois, je préfére traîner sur la 9 et profiter du paysage que je trouve splendide à cet endroit. Un choix quoi 😎 Mais je ne fais pas que passer en coup de vent non plus.
Le seul souci c'est que la lumière sera au zénith à ce moment !
Bref, c'est faisable. Faut décoller de Vegas à 6h30 maxi pour entrer dans Valley Of Fire avant 8h00 dernier carat.

Oui tout à fait. C'est juste que je trouve parfois un peu catégorique certains avis sur le forum.
Il est toujours mieux de passer un maximum de temps à chaque endroit. Mais après tout, ce genre de d'étapes, à condition qu'elles ne se répètent pas tous les jours du voyage, n'est pas spécialement inadapté. C'est simplement une transition agrémentée de une ou deux petites visites.

Départ très tôt comme indiqué par Vazyvite, cela te permet de jeter un bon coup d'oeil à la fraîche dans VoF.
Zion, tu traverses et, à la sortie du tunnel, arrêt pour la petite rando de Overlook. Ensuite, quelques photos de Chekerboard Mesa.
Un peu avant d'arriver à Bryce, arrêt à Red Canyon ; tu pourrais y être en fin d'après-midi, heure où les couleurs sont les plus chatoyantes.

tu peux remplacer la traversé de Zion via la roue 9 par un passage vers Cedar Breaks en prenant la 14 à Cedar City
Ce trajet est relaté dans notre carnet (partie 7) mais dans l'autre sens. Il offre l'avantage de passer par Cedar Breaks que peu de forumeurs visitent. Tu peux te contenter de quelques points juste auprès du Visitor Center, en arrivant. C'est autre chose que Bryce et nous avons trouvé le panel de couleur encore plus étendu, mais les conditions météo n'étaient pas favorables.

Finalement aprés les precieux conseils des gens du forum, l'été dernier on a fait Las Vegas --> Zion (avec une petite balade dans Zion depuis le terminus de la navette) --> Bryce (arrivée à l'hotel avec la nuit ). Je ne regrette pas du tout ce choix même si Zion mérite d'y passer plus de temps (vcomme tous le reste d'ailleur). Mais les journée ne font que 24 heures. Nous rêvons tous les quatres d'y retourner , peut être qu'un jour!!!!!
Aprés la chaleur de la vallée de la mort et de Las Vegas Zion nous a fait beaucoup de bien.

Je suis bien de ton avis, c'est même probablement mon State Park préféré (tous états de l'Ouest confondus), avec une sorte de concentré de ce qu'on peut admirer au pays du slickrock coloré.
Pour les amateurs de photographie et ceux qui voudraient explorer plus en profondeur Valley of Fire (avec ses arches, la Fire Wave...), je recommande très vivement l'excellent "eGuide for landscape photography" intitulé A CLOSER LOOK AT "Valley of Fire" que l'on peut télécharger pour 4 € sur http://www.synnatschke.de/e-guides/store.php, le site de mes amis Steffen et Isabel Synnatschke qui arpentent et photographient l'Ouest américain depuis de nombreuses années (parfois avec moi).
Pour l'avoir lu en détail, je peux attester que leur eGuide (en anglais) est remarquable de précision (et superbement illustré !), il permet de visiter et de photographier certaines curiosités "hors des sentiers battus" de Valley of Fire que l'on raterait à quelques centaines de mètres près si on n'était pas informé de leur existence et de leur localisation. D'ailleurs, après avoir lu leur eGuide, j'ai décidé de retourner à Valley of Fire lors de mon prochain voyage pour aller admirer et photographier ce que j'avais raté lors de mes précédentes visites.

Je sais que vous ne lisez pas plus que moi dans la boule de cristal, aussi je ne vous demande évidemment pas quelle sera la situation au niveau des incendies dans un mois...
Mais si certains d'entre vous pouvaient me dire si, ACTUELLEMENT, il y a de grosses difficultés, non seulement pour les habitants, évidemment, mais pour les touristes ?
Nous hésitons en effet à tenter le coup ou à annuler ce qui peut encore l'être.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
