Je fais la route 66, de Chicago à Los Angeles, en solo et en Harley, du 27/04 au 7/05 ( j'ai la cinquantaine, et je roule en Vmax le WE et en 450 Huski pour le TT )
Je fais 4 trés longues étapes au début ( Highway avec quelques sorties ) pour des étapes plus courtes sur la derniére partie.
J'ai réservé les billets Roissy- Chicago le 25/04 et retour Los Angeles-Roissy le 8/05 2009
J'ai réservé auprés de Eaglerider une HD Electra Glide du 27/04 au 7/05
Je dois réserver 2 nuits à Chicago, le 3/05 à Las Vegas ( J'ai envie de faire une partie de poker dans un grand casino) et 2 nuits à Los Angeles
Je me pose quelques questions :
Quelles tenues prévoir pour cette période de l'année
Faut-il 2 casques ( intégral + jet)
Quels accéssoires indispensables ne pas oublier.
Prendre des motels le soir, cela pose t-il des problémes à cette période.
Y a t-il des craintes à avoir sur les parking la nuit, pour la moto.
Enfin, tous les conseils possibles et imaginables pour ce périple.

je présume que tu as réservé chez eaglerider . je te conseille de prendre contact direct avec l'agence de chicago, pour te faire confirmer que tu auras bien une electraglide . sinon aucune certitude ...
les tenues : à cette saison il te faut tout : froid, pluie et chaleur .
pourquoi 2 casques ? le jet suffira car en californie avec l'intégral tu risques d'avoir chaud et il est obligatoire .
ton découpage du trajet me semble une bonne idée . par contre compte tenu des aléas de la route, je te conseille de ne pas réserve à LV . vérifies qd même sur le net qu'il n'y ait pas un gros congrés à cette date et tu réserveras le matin m^me sans souci .
les accessoires : une bmbe crevaison et tes tenues de pluie . prends des poches en plastique pour emballer les affaires dans les sacoches car elles ne sont pas toujours étanches .
les motels pour loger : aucun souci, tu en trouves partout sur ta route et il y a toujours de la place .
aucun souci pour la moto ni pour tes affaires . le soir tu mets la chaîne antivol fournie avec la moto ...

Je voulais réserver à LV, car par le net, c'est pour rien (25€ au stratosphére le 3/05, ou moins de 50€ pour d'autres 4* ) et cela me fera un objectif, car dans le timing, j'ai éventuellement 1 journée de réserve possible, donc si j'arrive un jour en avance ja passerai 2 jours à LV.
J'ai réservé par Eaglerider, et sur le contrat il est bien précisé : HD Electra Glide, donc à mon avis, pas de soucis.

perso, j'ai déjà du mal avec un casque alors .....(je roule toujours avec un casque simple, ni jet, ni integral, sans visiére sauf s'il pleut ...)
pour LV, vu les prix, c'est qu'il n'y a rien de prevu cette semaine là . en réservant le jour m^me tu auras donc des prix très voisins . mais c'est vrai qu'à ce prix, même si tu n'arrives pas ce jour là, tu ne risques rien ....
pour la moto, tu n'as pas lu les conditions générales du contrat, où il est précisé que tu accepteras le modéle qu'ils te donneront sans prétendre ......

Pour le casque j'hésite, car j'ai peur fin avril de rouler sur la premiére partie sous le froid et la pluie.
C'est vrai aussi que l'EG à un grand pare-brise, donc en jet avec des lunettes, et une éventuelle protection du cou, cela pourrait le faire !

Ahhh ! Horreur un intégral sur une Electra, tu vas te faire remarquer/lyncher (par les bikers) aux States avec un gros truc comme ça sur la tête.🏴☠️
Ne t'inquiète pas ! Avec un jet à visière, des lunettes de soleil cela suffit largement. Tu mets un masque en cas de pluie ou de froid et c'est cool.
Crois en l'expérience de Philippe et la mienne, nous avons roulé là bas dans le froid, la neige, la pluie, tempête de sable et j'en passe et jamais avec un intégral.
Si dans le sud de l'Arizona ou la Californie, tu te tape du 40/45°, tu vas te faire cuire le cerveau à l'étouffée !😉
Pour Las Vegas, Philippe à raison, ne fais pas de réservation !
Tu y sera en milieu de semaine, il y aura de la place partout et c'est moins cher...
C'est surtout le week-end du vendredi au dimanche ou les prix flambent et que les hôtels se remplissent.
Si tu veux du haut de gamme, tu vas au Signature, c'est top et pas excessivement cher pour LV (+ ou - 140$) pour ce prix tu as une "Junior suite" c'est à dire une mega chambre avec balcon perso et le super luxe, et ça doit être négociable comme partout. Et ça fait du bien de se vautrer dans le grand luxe au moins une fois ...😉
Sinon il y a du moins cher bien sûr...
Et si t'as pas de réservation, cela te laisse plus de liberté sur les étapes...

Pour LV, j'arriverai normalement un dimanche soir, cela me paraissait plus sur de réserver.
A votre avis, y aura t-il des problémes de pompe à essence sur le trajet.

excuse moi, j'avais lu le 5 mai pour Vegas. Le dimanche soir, les hotels de vident. Fait une simulation sur de réservation ça te donne une idée.
Pour l'essence pas problème, les stations services pullulent. Il y en a dans le moindre patelin. Elles sont plus faciles à trouver que les restos, quoique la plupart du temps on y mange aussi....😉
Tu essayes de faire le plein de l'Electra toutes les 150 / 160 miles, cela dépend de la route. Comme cela tu joues la sécurité... Mais surveillent quand même la carte pour voir si il n'y a pas de grand trou entre deux villes. Vaut mieux refaire le plein à 100 miles si le suivant est à 180 miles. Je n'ai rencontré ce problème q'une fois, dans le nord Washington, comme c'était dans les montagnes, il y avait 2 villages sur la route ou je pensais faire le plein, et comme l'exception confirme la règle, il n'y avait pas de station. J'ai dû faire un petit détour pour trouver de l'essence et je commençais à m'inquiéter car c'était une route très peu fréquentée.😕

Salut, Comme on te l'a dit, l'intégral tu oublies......( because les biker......). Perso, comme je parles trés mal l'armerloc, j'avais un mini carnet et un crayon, et je faisais comprendre que l'on m'écrive les réponses à mes questions, genre : adresse, nom de l'hotel, nom....ect...Ca sert à rien de poser une question si tu ne comprends pas la réponse....😉 Par contre, fais gaffe au code de la route, les cops ne sont pas trés cools......Si tu pouvais au début faire un bout de route avec des motards locaux, ça te permettrait de connaitre les us et coutumes.......Et en cas de problème, moi je disais: " French tourist of Paris ". Ca marche presque à tous les coups.......😉. Et retiens chaque seconde de ton voyage, déguste chaque instant, car aprés c'est dans ta tète pour la vie un trip comme ça.........
Il n'y a que les montagnes qui ne se rencontrent pas.

Nous avons loués 7 EG en 2006 à Denver avec Eagle Rider. Nous avons été globalemrnt satisfaits, les motos étaient récentes et en bon état. Par contre ils avaient du speeder pour les révisions: 4 motos sur 7 avaient les amortos pneumatiques complètement vides. On s'est débrouillés avec un pilote local qui avait une pompe. faire donc vérifié ce point avant de partir. Mon filtre à air était crade de chez crade, je l'ai changé moi meme après trois jours, mais j'avais mes outils spéciaux visserie US avec moi...Nous avions deux trousses à outils complète que nous avons l'habitude d'avoir sur nos HD ici. On à souvent aussi deux bougies ( vieilles mais propres et réglées ) du fil de fer, des colliers rilsan, et la bombe anti crevéson.Comme tu roule aussi en bécane ici tu dois surement faire un peu de mécanique. En ce qui me concerne j'aurai les boulles de rester en rade en plein desert pour une petite C.... qui m'aurai pris 10 mn à réparer chez nous. donc il faut prendre le minimum.
Je ne veux pas de faire peur, loin de la. OUblier aussi une idée reçu dans le monde de ceux qui roule en Jap: Les HD d'aujourd'hui sont aussi fiable que les autres marques!

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

We’ve rented two Royal Enfield 450s.
This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
Here’s the idea:
Day 1 (departure at noon): Marrakech - Tizi n Test - Tafingoult (165 km - 4h15)
Day 2: Tafingoult - Amzarkou - Telouet (200 km - 4h34)
Day 3: Telouet - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne (200 km - 3h30) (+ Vallée des Roses maybe)
Day 4: Boumalne - Dades Gorges - Agoudal - Todra Gorges - Tinghir - Goulmima (291 km - 6h)
Day 5: Goulmima - Midelt - Cirque Jaffar - Agoudim (280 km - 4h45)
Day 6: Agoudim - Imilchil - Aghbala - El Ksiba (280 km - 4h45)
Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20)
Day 8: Ahansal - Ouzoud Waterfalls via R 302 (188 km - 4h22)
Day 9: Ouzoud - Marrakech (160 km - 2h43)
