J'avais déjà posté il y a quelques jours ("Itinérant à travers les Alpes"). J'ai réfléchis depuis, cherché des solutions, préparé un itinéraire. Je compte donc faire Geneve - Nice le mois prochain. Je m'y prend un peu tard, car n'ayant pas de matériel je dois tout acheter. Niveau entrainement, je pense que ça va le faire, je suis un habitué du vélo (j'ai déjà fait, à la journée, 180 ou 190 km - mais je compte faire des étapes beaucoup plus courtes, entre 60 et 80 km selon les cols à franchir).
A 17 ans, je dois donc m'équiper. Je vais travailler à partir de mercredi prochain pour 1 mois, j'aurais donc un salaire (smic). Par conséquent, j'ai un budget pour m'équiper d'environ 400 - 500 euros.
Voici la liste que j'ai tenter d'établir:

Achète plutôt des sacoches arriéré 3x20 L Décathlon beaucoup moins cher d'une remorque surtout pour 15 jours, de plus les tente 1 second sont pas très efficace contre la pluie et le reste, regarde dans l'occasion style T2 ultraligh de chez Décathlon.le sac a dos pas très pratique a moins de faire que du chemin de randonnée (GR.....).
Les sacoches je ne pense pas que ce soit possible, je compte partir avec mon vélo route carbone, et pas possible de mettre de porte bagage (à la limite, sur le tube de selle mais bon ça fait un poids à l'arrière je prèfere laisser tomber). La remorque me reservira sans doute dans d'autres voyages... Si quelqu'un est vendeur d'une extra wheel d'occasion, je suis preneur, c'est tout de même moins cher que neuf!
Pour la tente, j'ai le catalogue de decath, en effet la T2 ultralight a l'air bien... mais elle est affichée à 90 €, ça fait un peu cher: ça en vaut vraiment le coup? Quelles autres tentes connaissez vous pour 1 personne ?
Quant au sac à dos, je pensais à ça pour mettre ce que je ne mettrait pas dans la remorque (ce que je veux avoir à porter de main : appareil photo, cartes... etc). Peut être serait il judicieux de prendre plus petit encore, mais 20L me parraissaient raisonnables.
Personnellement, quand je campe, je ne prend jamais ni matelas ni tapis de sol. Celui de la tente me suffit. Je n'ai pas l'habitude de prendre de réchaud non plus, mais je n'ai jamais campé seul encore. Je peux comprendre la nécessité de prendre un réchaud quand on est seul.
Là ce WE, je pars avec 2 amis à Fontainebleau, 80 km aller + VTT à l'arrivée pour se faire plaisir, et 80 km retour. J'ai prévu de faire du feu, mais au cas où ça poserai un problème quelconque, j'emmène un réchaud artisanal (http://www.randonner-leger.org/wiki/doku.php?id=prs) pour dépanner (c'est vraiment pour dépanner parce que bon, pour 3 personnes ... va falloir attendre un bon bout avant de manger :D).
Pour le sac à dos, honnêtement, j'ai du mal à supporter, mais comme sur mon vélo actuel je n'ai ni porte-bagage ni remorque et que je m'interdis d'investir (je vais m'acheter un vélo + remorque au Canada), ce sera sac à dos. Je vais tester de le sangler dans le cadre de vélo. Je ne pense pas que ce soir vraiment possible, mais ça ne coute rien d'essayer.
La 2 Seconds de quechua n'est pas du tout adaptée au vélo car trop volumineuse et lourde. A la limite, achète une simple bache et confectionne-toi un abri (cherche dans les nombreux forums de rando légère / MUL). Pour un 1er petit voyage, tu peux peut-être te faire prêter du matériel ? Demande dans ton entourage qui a un petit sac de couchage et un matelas mousse, un petit sac à dos, éventuellement un camping gaz et une popote. Pour le réchaud, s'il est à gaz, pense à inclure le prix des cartouches (environ 5€ je crois). La remorque est une bonne idée. N'oublie pas que ça implique quand même des contraintes sur l'axe arrière, ne force pas trop. Si tu es léger, pas de soucis.
@ crOvax : dormir sans matelas de sol... aoutch, faut être motivé ! Ca va dans l'herbe fraiche, mais sinon... Perso, j'ai un tapis de sol en mousse, recoupé, hyper léger et confortable (Z-lite de Thermarest) mais un chouia volumineux, et moins cher que les auto-gonflants. Le fait de prendre un réchaud n'a aucun rapport avec partir seul ou à plusieurs. Ca dépend plus de où tu veux manger et quoi (restaurant ? Uniquement des sandwiches et trucs froids/crus ? Pouvoir faire des pâtes le soir et du thé le matin en bivouac ?). Bref, question de choix. Pour le feu, ne pas oublier qu'il y a plein d'endroits où c'est interdit à cause des risques d'incendie.
Sangler un sac à dos au cadre ? Sans porte-bagage, je vois pas trop comment. S'il est léger (moins de 6-7kg), un simple porte-bagage accroché sur le tube de selle peux faire l'affaire. Tu peux aussi sangler qqs bricoles au guidon à l'avant et éventuellement mettre une grande sacoche de cadre pour répartir le bardas.
Benh pour le matelas, j'en ai jamais utilisé en fait. Par contre pour le tapis de sol (en mousse) quand j'étais plus jeune, je suis arrivé au scout avec, et puis je me suis rapidement aperçu que personne ou presque n'amenait le sien. C'est vrai que c'est encombrant. J'ai essayé sans, et depuis je ne l'ai plus jamais utilisé. Mon frère qui est passé par les scouts aussi quelques années après a fait pareil. En gros, ce tapis de sol a 10 ans mais n'a servi que 5 ou 6 fois.
Pour la bouffe, je fais du feu perso. Quand j'étais scout des feux, j'en ai fais partout, on ne nous a absolument jamais rien dit, pourtant c'était déjà interdit dans pas mal d'endroit. Quand je n'ai pas besoin de m'éclairer, je fais un feu jusqu'à avoir une demi-buche qui brule, puis j'éteins les flammes. Avec un peu de souffle, ça suffit largement pour faire la bouffe pour 4 ou 5.
Pour le sac, j'imaginai le mettre au milieu de triangle en fait. Mais ne t'inquiète pas, je ne me fais pas d'illusion. Il y a 85% de chance que je n'y parvienne pas, et 85 autres pourcents que s'y j'y arrive, le sac me gène pour pédaler. Mais ça ne coute rien d'essayer.

C'est pas bien malin de faire des feux lorsque c'est interdit, même si personne ne dit rien. Perso, si je vois des campeurs faire un feu dans la pinède, même si le feu est protégé par des pierres, je pense que je les fusille sans préavis ! Non, vraiment, ça me met hors de moi quand on voit les dégâts causés par certains inconscients. Cela dit, il y a des lieux où c'est autorisé et ça ne pose pas de pb. Je trouve quand même ça pas terrible d'un point de vue environnemental car ça laisse des traces plutôt moches dans paysages.
Si j'peux m'permettre, en France y'a énormément de zones à risques dans lesquels les feux ne sont pas interdits, et beaucoup de zones où les feux sont interdits, alors qu'il n'y a aucun risque.
La réalité, c'est que la majorité des arrêtés d'interdiction n'ont pour d'autres but que d'avoir un prétexte pour virer manouches et SDF qui sont de plus en plus nombreux à s'installer dans les bois des régions urbaines (Est, Ile de France, etc.)
A titre d'exemple, je vois mal un incendie se déclencher avec un feu de la taille d'une gamelle dans la forêt de Fontainebleau, pourtant je suis prêt à parier que c'est interdit.
Quant aux cendres, ça s'enterre.
Tu sais, c'est interdit de dormir dehors ... partout ! J'vais quand même pas aller me prendre un camping quand je peux dormir dans un endroit qui n'appartient à personne et où personne ne vit ...
Si ça peut te rassurer, pour partir plus longtemps, je vais probablement me fabriquer un réchaud à bois. Les risques d'incendie sont les mêmes (par rapport à la façon dont je prépare mon feu), le sol sera aussi propre que quand je fais un feu, bref, tout pareil, mais c'est légal.
Evidemment, ce n'est pas cette raison qui me fait passer au réchaud à bois. C'est juste que c'est plus simple à allumer en cas de vent.
Je ne sais pas comment vous faites pour dormir sans matelas mousse! le froids du sol te glace le dos, les muscles sont talés le matin... moi je ne peux pas! surtout dans les Alpes, pays de cailloux et de nuits fraiches!
et un matelas mousse, ça coute une misère, ça ne pèse rien, c'est juste un peu encombrant mais on s'en fou, généralement on a de la place sur un vélo.
prend une petite mousse ordinaire, ça va te couter 5 euros, ça pèse rien, et ça fera 80% du boulot d'un autogonflant. et comme tu es trés jeune tu supportera le petit écart de confort! ;)
pour le feu, j'en fait dans les Alpes, mais jamais dans le sud, et jamais si c'est interdit bien sur!
mais dans les hautes vallées des Alpes du nord, ne pas faire un petit feu au bord du torrent pour se griller son repas du soir... c'est quasi un sacrilège! ya un minimum de savoir vivre a conserver! 😛
mais cependant, moi qui ne peut rien faire tant que je n'ai pas un bol de café dans le ventre (lyophilisé en vélo), je ne part jamais sans au moins un mini-mini réchaud, parce que faire du feu le matin alors que l'étape n'est pas commencé, que le petit bois est mouillé et que l'envie de café me torture... trop long!
la possibilité de faire un feu au sol reste assez localisé quand même, on ne peut pas compter sur ça tous les jours je pense.

Je suis sceptique sur la qualité d'une tente à trente euros ! Si tu ne peux pas mettre plus, ajoute une bâche en plastique par dessus ou à défaut, des sacs poubelles ; ce n'est pas très esthétique, mais c'est efficace -idem si on veut protéger ses affaires à l'intérieur des sacoches : j'ai fait l'itinéraire que tu projettes il y a quelques années avec une tente igloo de très mauvaise qualité. Elle prenait l'eau de toutes parts; mais, recouverte d'une bâche maintenue par des pinces à linge fixées sur les arceaux, il n'y avait plus de problème (sauf le vent !)

La tente à 30 euros, c'est oublié. Je pense prendre la T2 ultralight Pro de décat, à 95 €. Par contre, les soldes c'est début juillet, quelqu'un saurait il s'il y a des chances de voir du matériel de camping en solde (à decat ou ailleurs) ?
il y a le magasin d'usine Lafuma à Anneyron (26140) qui a des bons prix competitifs. j'y ai déjà acheté tentes, duvets, veste.. etc..
et en plus de l'ouverture classique ils ont je crois 2 périodes de solde, mais je ne connais pas les dates.
depuis Cavaillon c'est pas a coté, mais si tu as l'ocasion de remonter la vallée du Rhone, c'est pas loin de l'axe principal.

J'ai lu sur un autre post qu'il était possible de mettre dans l'avancée le cadre et les roues du vélo ( à condition de ne plus sortir, bien entendu ) .

Je serais seul dans la tente, et j'ai un vélo qui a une valeur assez conséquente (route carbone). Donc je cherche une protextion efficace contre le vol... Je pense peut etre à le démonter (roues à serrage rapide, ça prend 1 minute) et à l'introduire dans la tente... Si la place est suffisante!
Autre chose, la T2 ultralight est à 75€ et la pro à 80 € . Laquelle me conseillez vous?

La T2 "pro" est vraiment faite pour 1 seule personne (c'est même parfait). Mais impossible de rentrer ne serai-ce que la roue arrière de ton vélo dans l'abside (elle est suffisante pour mettre ta paire de chaussure et quelques babioles). Personellement j'ai choisi cette tente pour son poids plus light que la T2 ultralight classique, même si cette dernière est un peu plus grande. Ton vélo je te conseille de le laisser dehors juste à coté de ta tente, et tu peux le relier à ta tente (antivols, chaine...) comme ça si on te le pique tu sera réveillé!

I’m planning to cycle from Morlaix to Brest (via Roscoff and the V45 coastal route). We’ll start riding on August 16th for 13 days (with stops for island visits, surfing, etc.). Is there a lot of traffic at this time of year? I’ve got two kids, 11 and 13, and we don’t like riding in the middle of cars (we’ve already done the Vélomaritime—Caen to Cherbourg—the Loire route from Orléans to Saumur, the Vélodyssée from Nantes to Royans, and the canals like the Nivernais and Bourgogne, where there were plenty of bike-only lanes, which isn’t the case on this route).

I’ve got my flight ticket sorted—departing in mid-November and returning in mid-March. I’ll arrive in Santiago and leave from Buenos Aires.
I’ve already been to southern Argentina, specifically Torres del Paine National Park, and I’d love to go back to do the full W trek (I only did the shorter version last time).
I also want to do some hiking and maybe even tackle a summit. I climb and occasionally do some mountaineering, so I’ll definitely be going with a guide.
I plan to start around Temuco in Chile, with the idea of heading toward the lakes, then taking the Carretera Austral.
I’m not sure if I’ll go all the way to Ushuaia—it’s supposed to not be *that* worth it, except for the bragging rights of saying you’ve been to the end of the world.
I saw there are lakes in Argentina too.
I don’t have a precise itinerary, but what I’d love is, once I reach the southernmost point of my trip, to take a mini-cruise to see some wildlife. Any tips for that?

I’m planning a bikepacking trip in a few weeks along the Véloroute V81, also known as the Vélosud, from Biarritz to Le Barcarès.
Has anyone here already done this route? Any info is welcome, whether it’s about the route itself, gear, or accommodation. I’ll prioritize staying with locals as much as possible. On that note, I just signed up for the brand-new site *Guidon et Couette* ((www.guidon-et-couette.fr)), which offers free accommodation between cyclists across the country, but there’s almost no one listed along my route!

I'm developing a free and open-source web app for planning walking and cycling trips (and even car trips). You can create a route by clicking directly on the map to add waypoints, and it can consist of multiple stages. The app provides tools to edit the stages and the overall route, and to display useful information (distances, altitudes, and elevation changes). A relief profile can be shown as a graph for a specific stage or the entire route.
Once the route is ready, it can be exported as a GPX file, which can then be used with a GPS or a mobile navigation app.
The app is built in JavaScript and runs entirely in the web browser. It uses the Leaflet library and several OpenStreetMap-based services. Initially developed for my personal needs (I enjoy hiking and cycle touring), I’d be happy to share it with anyone who might find it useful. It’s free to use, doesn’t require an account, and the source code is available.
After testing it for three years across various modes of transport, I’m sharing this video of a bike packing case. It’s made from recycled cardboard and shrink-wrapped, with adjustable thickness and added bubble wrap depending on the level of protection you want.
Installing spacers at the fork and chainstays makes the packaging compact. With the fifteen-odd euros for shrink-wrapping at the airport, this case travels really well.

- Low bulk (1.10m x 0.70m x 0.25m for a large frame), it fits vertically in train luggage compartments and the total dimensions (x+y+z) don’t exceed 2.40m.
- Two carrying solutions for public transport and easy handling by airport staff (no more tears in the cardboard from openings).
- Discreet packaging when dealing with bus drivers and train conductors, as it looks like an ordinary parcel.
- No need to return to the starting point to retrieve the case from your outbound trip, which you’d otherwise have to store somewhere, or deal with a bulky cover to pack in your panniers.
- You can still check tire pressure through the plastic film without damaging the packaging too much.
Drawbacks: Around 3 hours for this lengthy and meticulous process—removing the wheels, pedals, handlebars, and derailleur without misaligning them, then securing all components to the frame.

I want to prioritize lightness.
That said, I’m tempted by a suspension fork that could offer some comfort on rougher roads.
The recent appearance of gravel suspension forks on the market might meet my needs—at least on paper.
I’m particularly considering the RockShox Rudy Ultimate XPLR fork.
Unlike MTB forks, its travel is short: either 30 mm or 40 mm.
It weighs 1400 g, which is 400/500 g more than a steel fork.
Any thoughts or real-world feedback on this?
I’m also wondering about the durability of magnesium (lower leg) for long-distance bike touring.
And what’s the impact of skipping the manufacturer-recommended maintenance every 50 and 200 hours? That’s bound to happen on a long trip unless you carry extra gear.
More generally, how reliable are these kinds of forks?
I’m making an exception and creating a separate post this time, since it’s all about France. In May, we spent a week in Provence, specifically in the Luberon, exploring the cycling routes *Autour du Luberon à Vélo*, the *Véloroute du Calavon* (part of EuroVelo 8), and the shorter *Les Ocres à Vélo* route. Together, they gave us an amazing journey through rolling hills, vineyards, lavender fields still green in spring, and some of the most stunning landscapes in southern France.
It was, of course, the perched villages that impressed us the most. We visited Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Lourmarin, Ménerbes, Oppède-le-Vieux, Cucuron, and Lauris. Many of them are among the most beautiful villages in Provence, and it’s hard not to agree with that reputation.
One interesting point is the route of EuroVelo 8 in this part of the region. The official path mainly follows the old railway line of the *Véloroute du Calavon*, which is very comfortable and safe. But in our opinion, cyclists traveling EuroVelo 8 around the Mediterranean would discover even more treasures if the route passed through villages like Bonnieux, Lacoste, or Oppède-le-Vieux.
We were also pleasantly surprised by how safe cycling felt. Most of the route takes small local roads, but traffic is light, drivers are respectful, and road design really takes cyclists into account. It’s one of those places where you can ride peacefully even without separated bike lanes.

Happy owner of a Pegasus Estremo bike with a Rohloff hub, which is giving me trouble with the SF11-NCX-FT-E-LITE 700C TS 300/0 fork (serial number TD01329060). It’s starting to show its age, and I’d like to repair it to extend the life of my beloved bike.
The suspension is gone, and there’s an oil leak from the seals.
Does anyone know how to repair it? Where can I find parts that are about fifteen years old? Or where to find an identical replacement fork? Just to clarify, the Magura HS11 brakes are mounted using Firm Tech, meaning they’re on pivots behind the fork, facing the frame.

I’m landing in Madagascar with a buddy before the end of April 2026. We’re planning to bike around for about twenty days or so. We don’t have a specific goal other than exploring the country and meeting the locals.
Ideally, we’d prefer a loop route starting from Antananarivo with a good chunk of it along the coast. On the bike side, we’re used to riding 6 to 8 hours a day, depending on the needs, encounters, and mood 😉 Any feedback or tips from trips around this length?

Last year, my wife and I explored the High Atlas by tandem. Completely smitten, we're heading back in April (Anti Atlas) and May (High and Middle Atlas), still on our tandem.
Do you have any info on the track between Amezri and Ali Ait Nito? Are the river crossings in the Tessaout still there? It's not easy to navigate with a loaded tandem... especially if the river level is high due to this year's heavy snowmelt!

I’ve been traveling for a few years now with a high-quality mountain bike, but it’s equipped with hydraulic disc brakes. I live (pedal) with the constant worry of a breakdown (leak, air bubble, heat causing the fluid to...). My bike mechanic tells me it’s impossible to switch them out for V-brakes.
What do you all think? Am I taking a big risk continuing (alone) with these brakes? Thanks in advance for your great tips!
First post here to share a quick recap of our west-to-east bike trip along Algeria’s coast in January 2025.
It was just the two of us—my partner and I—with French passports and not a word of Arabic. No friends or welcoming hosts in the country.
Under those conditions, we’d strongly advise against going.
Our original plan was to follow the coast from Algiers to Tunis. We ended up cycling from Algiers to Béjaia, then took the train from Béjaia to Annaba (with a stop in Constantine), and finally biked to the border.
We were tailed by police the whole way—whether on our bikes, on the train, or even on foot while exploring towns. On top of that, we couldn’t wild camp and were limited to the few state-approved hotels that accept foreigners. Under those circumstances, connecting with locals was especially tough.
With such an omnipresent and intrusive police presence, we’d definitely recommend against this destination for bike touring. A really sad situation that completely cuts you off from the local population...

Duration: 3 months, from May 1st to July 31st, 2026.
In the attached details below, I need to add some "non-riding" days (rest days, basically).
So I’m looking to "shorten" the trip by taking ferries or trains for some stretches. Which areas could I skip?

I’m planning to bike back from Poland this summer. Does anyone know a way to ship it there without having to take it apart? Otherwise, it’s a real hassle to fine-tune all the settings before departure!
