On planche en ce moment sur l'itineraire - un vaste brouillon :-)) - et on aurait besoin de votre aide avisée pour savoir si on a fait les meilleurs choix - y a til des sites moins prioritaires ou qu'on aurait zappés ? l'option 1 est pour moi meilleur. Si vous avez peu de temps en Bolivie, je vous conseille de privilégier Uyuni même si un peu décentré
Quoique après le tour du Salar-Sud Lipez vous pouvez terminer à San Pedro de Atacama au Chili et remonter la côte pour rejoindre le Pérou. Plus d'infos sur notre blog mais n'hésitez pas si vous avez des questions

Ibarra j'ai beaucoup aime, surtout sa laguna un peu dans les hauteurs.

Huaquillas je ne te recommande pas, Machala non plus d'ailleurs, par contre depuis Machala vous pouvez aller sur l'ile de Jalin (2.40$ A/R) qui est treeeees tranquille hors saison, en pleine saison ¿?¿?¿ vous pouvez y poser le hamac si le temps le permet.
Depuis Machala vous avez la Cie Cifa qui vous menera directement au Perou, Machala / Mancora comptez 4h + la douane.
Ne restez pas trop pres des villes frontalieres de toute facon, en regle generale c'est pas conseille, donc idem pour Tumbes.
Mancora est agreable mais a part la plage pas grand chose, si quelques beaux couches de soleil et pleines lune comme dans un cadre.
Prefere Huanchaco a Trujillo, plus calme, securitaire, moins cher et qui plus est vous serez plus proche de Chan Chan que vous pourrez visiter SEULES sans probleme. Enfin si vous voulez un guide c'est vous qui voyez. Tarif seule 2 soles A/R de combi + 11 soles pour les entres du musee, du site et des huacas, avec un tour de 35/pers (si vous etes 4) a xxx soles.
Pour les hotels de Mancora a Huanchaco 10 soles/pers avec Bano privado et vu imprenable sur le Pacifique et le Muelle, si vous voulez les adresses ...
Chimbote vous pouvez zapper alegrement, meme si Huaraz n'est pas top ce sera toujours mieux et le fumet de poisson en moins, parfum assure pour une semaine 😛. Preferez faire une etape a Chiclayo ne serait-ce que pour ses musees (Lambayeque) et c'est sur la route.
Pisco les excursions pour les iles partent seulement le am et ne vous laisse donc pas le temps d'arriver le jour meme de Lima.

Sincerement je trouve "gourmand" d'ajouter la Bolivie, les distances et temps de trajet en Equateur c'est rien mais au Perou ...
Vous risquez tout simplement de ne pas en profiter. Lors de mon 1er sejour ici il m'a fallut 1.5 mois pour +/- ce parcours, et j'etais alors rentree "frustree" car ce n'etait pas suffisant, donc + l'Equateur en 2 mois, pleine saison et a deux ...🤪 (on est plus libre seule, c'est ce qu'il faut entendre).
Je ne parle que de l'Equateur, c'est le pays que je connais le mieux j'y suis allé 4 fois.

Comme tu peux le constater il y a pas mal de communautés indigènes, c'est effectivement une des grandes particularités de l'Equateur que n'ont pas encore vraiment bien développés ses voisins, les communautés se sont prises en main pour gérer elles mêmes les projets de tourisme de proximité, cela donne un coté "chez l'habitant" assez intéressant quand on veut visiter un pays ET rencontrer sa population.

Pour ce qui est de Quito - Otavalo - Cuicocha - Imbabura - retour Quito - Latacunga, voici ce qui est dans le domaine du possible :
Partez pour Otavalo tôt le matin, visiter le marché, déjeunez sur place, l'après midi faites la laguna Cuicocha, revenez sur Otavalo et partez pour Ibarra et la communauté San Clemente
Le lendemain faites le volcan Imbabura
Le lendemain revenez sur Quito et partez de suite pour Latacunga.
Si vous voulez être prise en main pour toute cette partie du circuit, je connais une famille d'accueil à Quito qui en plus de vous héberger (et de venir vous chercher à l'aéroport ) peut vous "driver" pour tout cela, vous le feriez donc en voiture plutôt qu'en bus, ce qui peut vous faire gagner un peu de temps, mais le déroulement général sera quand même celui décrit ci dessus, je vous mets le courrier (il faut écrire en espagnol) :Elena et Paco : easquet@yahoo.com si vous avez quelques problèmes avec lespagnol je peux les contacter.
Pour la partie Latacunga, si vous partez tôt de Quito vous trouverez peu être un bus à Latacunga pour La laguna Quilotoa, sinon essayer le parc du Cotopaxi. (pas le sommet).
le lendemain, soit la laguna, soit le parc du Cotopaxi.
je ne vous conseille pas le sommet car je pense que cela se fait sur deux jours et vous n'avez pas trop de temps.
Pour la laguna faites le tour du cratère (4 à 5 heures) après vous être renseigné de l'heure du départ du dernier bus pour Latacunga.
Rien à rajouter sur la partie Baños, Amazonie et Cabanes Nanambiiki.
Pour le train d'Alausi, c'est mieux d'arriver la veille pour éventuellement réserver mais ça n'est pas obligatoire, il faut savoir que les jours de fonctionnement sont le mercredi, vendredi et Dimanche.
Tena - Riobamba de nuit?, honnêtement je ne sais pas, mais cela serait l'idéal car le train part tôt le matin donc vous seriez sur place.
A votre place j'essayerai quand même d'aller visiter le projet du Réseau Ahuana de Pierrick et des communautés, vous pouvez par exemple "zapper une journée à Cuenca", une seule journée pour s'imprégner de l'ambiance de la ville et de son charme "colonial" peut suffire dans un circuit rapide comme le votre, vous aurez même le temps d'acheter un vrai Panama dans l'usine ou on les fabrique.
Vous pouvez aussi essayer de faire tout votre programme "Baños" en une seule journée.
Pour la frontière, je ne dis rien je ne l'ai encore jamais passée, en tout cas pour la plage, en Equateur impossible à rajouter dans vos 15 jours.

Je vais poster un message special pour savoir s'il existe un bus de nuit Tena/Riobamba.
Pour le cotopaxi, est ce que l'ascension vaut vraiment le coup ? car si c'est le cas on peut passer plus vite sur des etapes au perou et prendre 3 jours dans le parc... si vous pensez qu'imbarura est a peu pres equivalent dans ce cas on se limitera a 1 jour de ballade dans le parc du cotopaxi et 1 jour pour la lagune.
Enfin pour Cuenca je me rends pas bien compte, certains disent que c'est vraiment une ville ou il faut s'attarder 2 jours...vous pensez que se ballader vers le chimorazo vaut plus le coup qu'un jour de plus a cuenca ?
On ne peut pas vraiment comparer le Cotopaxi et l'Imbabura, le Cotopaxi fait près de 6000m on est donc là plus dans l'alpinisme (glacier, crampons etc..) que le trek, l'Imbabura ne fait que autour de 4700m, de plus si vous passez par la communauté san clemente, ils vous proposent de faire le plus gros à cheval ou en 4X4, donc au niveau choix ça n'est pas la même problématique.
C'est un peu la même chose pour Cuenca ou le Réseau Ahuana dans le chimborazo, Cuenca est une très belle ville qui mérite effectivement que l'on s'y attarde un peu, avec Ahuana vous découvrirez la vie des habitants d'un village du Chimborazo, difficile de choisir à votre place.
On peut peut être trancher de cette façon, en Bolivie vous allez aller à Sucre, c'est tout à fait le même genre de ville, typiquement coloniale au niveau architecture et même ambiance tranquille (vieux souvenirs, il y a bien 7-8 ans)

Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.

I’ve sketched out a rough itinerary but I’m not sure how to arrange it—considering the climate, year-end holidays, and Carnival.
Basically, I’m thinking of the Amazon, the Northeast coast with Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (but skipping Chapada Diamantina),
Ouro Preto, Paraty, and Ilha Grande—but no Rio visit.

Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.
How’s it actually working on the ground with these rental companies right now? Will a deferred debit card work, or not at all?

I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.
I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?
What would be a fair price (keeping in mind that 40 to 50 € is the max I can spend on accommodation, breakfast, and dinner)?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.

Three years ago during a trip to Java (no, I didn’t post in the wrong forum!), I came across the address of former miners who had switched to “tourism” and organized nighttime ascents of the Kawah Ijen volcano and descents into the crater.
