Après plusieurs heures passées à parcourir internet afin de préparer l'itinéraire que l'on fera moi et mon homme du 21/01/14 au 18/02/14, je suis plus que souvent tombée sur ce forum et j'ai lu de nbreuses discussions se rapportant à notre projet ; donc voilà, si vous avez un peu de temps à me consacrer, j'aimerais que vous me donniez votre avis sur l'itinéraire que nous avons pour le moment établi, s'il vous paraît faisable et pas trop speed surtout :
21/01 : arrivée à Bangkok vers 07h00 du matin,
22/01 : Journée Bangkok
23/01 : Train Bangkok-Ayutthaya dans l'après midi
24/01 : journée Ayutthaya
25/01 : train le matin Ayutthaya-Lopburi, on y reste quelques heures, puis train Lopburi-Phitsanulok
26/01 : journée Phitsanulok, bus Phitsanulok-Sukkhotai en fin de journée (mais j'ai cru voir que les derniers bus partaient vers 16 h ? Sinon prendre un taxi ou le premier bus le lendemain matin...)
27/01 : journée Sukkhotai puis bus de nuit Sukkhotai-Chiang Mai
28-29-30/01 : Chiang Mai et ses alentours
31/01 : avion CM-Bangkok puis re-avion Bangkok-Phuket puis bus ou taxi de l'aéroport de Phuket à Khao Lak
01/02 : Excursion Similans avec 1 nuit sur une des îles
02/02 : Retour Khao Lak puis bus ou taxi pour Phang N'ga
03/02 : Excursion baie Phang N'Ga avec nuit au village sur pillotis si possible ( Koh Panyee je crois)
04/02 : Bus Phang N'ga-Ao Nang
05/02 : Bateau Ao Nang-Railey en fin de journée
06/02 : on profite de Railey Beach tôt, puis bateau Railey-Koh Lanta
07/02 : journée Koh Lanta (excursion îles)

Voilà en ce qui concerne l'itinéraire... je ne suis pas rentrée dans les détails concernant le reste, les coins à voir, choses à faire, endroits où dormir, car tout n'est pas décidé et, mis à part quelques hôtels, guesthouses et billets que l'on réservera, on se renseigne bien sûr, mais on verra une fois là bas ce qu'on fera... Dans tous les cas on est preneur de bons conseils et bons plans 😉

Comme beaucoup de gens qui viennent pour la 1ere fois en Thaïlande, je suppose que c'est votre cas, vous voulez tout voir à tout prix. C'est tout àfait louable et cela peut se concevoir.
Personnellement je suis fatigué à la seule lecture de votre périple....C'est un vrai marathon qui va vous laisser sur les rotules. Mis à part les 3 journées vers Chiang Mai, le reste est une course contre la montre..
Vous allez passer à coté de tout..
N'oubliez pas que vous allez venir en pleine saison touristique, qu'il y aura beaucoup de monde.. Vous avez choisi beaucoup de transports que ce soit en bus train avion bateau, et vous allez sans cesse être compressés comme des sardines..
Pourquoi ne pas se poser à un endroit pendant au moins 1 semaine et rayonner tranquillement autour. Quelque soit cet endroit que vous choisirez, vous trouverez toujours quelque chose qui vous plaira..
Personnellement je trouve votre périple à la limite du raisonnable.....Mais ce n'est que mon humble avis et c'est votre voyage....

Je suis heureux de constater que je dois être à l'origine d'une partie de votre programme (Panee, Maeklong etc).... 😇 Mais franchement va falloir tailler dans les priorités !!! Vous connaissez le fameux proverbe : "Qui trop embrasse mal étreint" DONC :
- l'avion entre Chiang Mai et Phuket c'est direct et sans passer par Bangkok (Air Asia fait ca très bien)
- Kao Lak merite au minimum 3 jours tout comme Lanta : supprimez donc toute la destination Samui-Tao-Phangan : vous ne perdrez pas grand chose. Ensuite virez aussi Lopburi (les singes attendront) et Phitsanulok/Sukkhothai car vous aurez fait Ayutaya: on vient de gagner encore presque 3 jours (ca fait déja 5) !!! Sinon vous reviendrez depuis Krabi par avion à Bangkok conformément à la carte d'illustration jointe 😇:

Effectivement je commençais à penser à devoir peut être supprimer quelques étapes si nécessaire, ce que vous me confirmez... 🙁
Mais c'est pas facile ! J'avais déjà fait un premier "tri" parmi tous les endroits où on aurais souhaité aller, va falloir que je trie encore plus 😐.
Entre Ayutthaya et Sukkhotai, pour visiter et séjourner, vous me conseilleriez plutôt Ayutthaya donc ? L'avantage c'est que le train y passe, contrairement à Sukkhotai...
Par contre, Koh Samui est une étape "obligatoire" pour nous car nous allons y retrouver un couple d'amis qui s'est expatrié là-bas et que nous avons vraiment envie de voir ; je sais que la météo sera peut être moins bonne là-bas, mais quitte à y aller, et selon le temps dont on disposera là bas et la météo, je pensais peut être faire une excursion dans le coin, mais je ne me suis pas encore trop renseigné sur cela et on verra une fois là-bas ce qu'il en sera, voir nos amis et passer des moments avec eux étant quand même une priorité.
Pour Khao Lak, quand tu me conseilles d'y passer au moins 3 jours, c'est en comptant éventuellement une excursion aux Similans durant ces 3jours ? (avec nuit sur place je veux dire, mais je me demande si ça vaut le coup d'y passer la nuit)

Et bien, étonnamment, il ne me semble pas être tombé sur ce post jusqu'à maintenant, mais effectivement, tu as dû donner des idées à pas mal de monde avec ce post et cela a dû se répercuter sur d'autres posts et blogs sur lesquels je suis tombé...
C'est super d'avoir tout ces conseils, toutes ces expériences au travers des forums et blogs, l'inconvénient étant que ça donne envie de faire plein de choses que l'on ne pourra pas forcément faire😛... Trop de choix tue le choix... mais c'est quand même mieux d'avoir trop de choix que pas assez.... (roooooooh ! Jamais contente moi ? 😛 )
Je continue à étudier mon itinéraire dés que j'ai un peu de temps, je sais que le temps passe en attendant, mais de toute façon je ne peux rien confirmer tant que je ne peux pas être remplacée au boulot, et je vois les prix des billets d'avion augmenter pendant ce temps malheureusement.... En espérant qu'il nous restera des places quand même... (sachant qu'une assurance annulation qui couvre une annulation suite à congés annulés par le travail ne marche qu'à condition que ces congés aient étés initialement accordés, ce qui n'est pas encore notre cas...)
Pffffff.... J'espère vraiment ne pas préparer tout ça pour rien, on devait déjà faire ce voyage en 2013 mais ça n'a pas été possible, mais pour 2014 je le sens bien, je veux y croire ! Et après tous les cierges allumés à Notre-dame, y a intérêt que ça le fasse !....😛

Suite à vos réponses, je pense enlever des étapes dans notre trajet entre Bangkok et Chiang-Mai.
Sachant que l'on sera en pleine saison touristique à ce moment là, pensez vous que l'on peut se permettre d'improviser un peu selon nos souhaits, par exemple réserver juste 2 nuits à Ayutthaya, et de là, voir au jour le jour jusqu'à Chiang Mai...
Par exemple rester à Ayutthaya si on le souhaite (mais nuits supplementaires sur place pas réservées) puis direct Chiang Mai, ou éventuellement faire une petite escale par Phitsanulok ou autre si au bout de 2 jours à Ayuttahaya nous souhaitons voir autre chose... Mais je crains que l'on soit plus que limité niveaux guesthouses/hôtels dans les endroits où l'on souhaiterait éventuellement dormir par la suite (il y en a qui affichent deja complet aujourd'hui)...
Autant Ayutthaya nous donnera envie d'y rester jusqu'à notre départ pour Chiang Mai, mais si ce n'est pas le cas (et vu aussi le nombre de post ou les intervenants ne conseille pas forcément plus de 2 jours sur Ayutthaya à moins d'être connaisseur, historien et jamais "rassasié" de temples), je souhaiterai avoir la possibilité d'en partir sans pour autant me retrouver, à la ville suivante, sans guesthouse/hôtel un minimum agréable et pas complètement excentrés de notre point d'arrivée (gare ferroviaire ou routière)...
Au pire on peut se contenter pour 1 nuit ou 2 d'un endroit pas forcément très agréable (cadre ou ambiance) où il faut partager les toilettes et douches, mais c'est la recherche d'un hébergement une fois sur place, selon l'heure, et malgré la fréquentation touristique, que je redoute un peu.... Suis-je trop anxieuse ou pessimiste ou ai-je des raisons de redouter cela ?

(pour le sud de la Thailande je ferais certainement aussi qlqs modifs (eventuellement zapper la nuit aux Similans pour profiter plus de Khao Lak et peut etre faire un choix entre Koh Phi Phi et Koh Lanta et garder les jours "economisés" pour rester plus longtemps ailleurs mais je ne me suis pas encore trop penchée la dessus)

Une chose est sûre ; 1 seule nuit à Ayutaya sera suffisante. L'idéal ce serait de partir de la en soirée par le train de nuit pour arriver le le lendemain à Chiang Mai ou 2h auparavant sur Lampang en dormant ICI ? 😇

deux jours à Ayutthaya c 'est bien. je vous conseille de faire la visite en bateau et en vélo. c 'est sympa (voir photos sur ma page facebook)
Attention les trains de nuit pour Chiang Mai sont suspendus durant quelques mois pour rénovation de la voie

Si je comprends bien, selon toi il vaut mieux "zapper" Lopburi (bon ça, c'est d'ores et déjà envisagé) ainsi que Phitsanulok et Sukkhotai pour plutôt s'arrêter à Lampang ?
Et avec ces histoires de travaux et de perturbations de circulation de train de nuit, il faut que je vois quels trains circuleront ou non.... Et voir si des bus existent si pas de train le soir.
Une autre "étape" que je pensais enlever est la nuit aux Similans, et du coup rester sur Khao Lak ; en effet, j'entends un peu tous les sons de cloches sur les excursions avec 1 nuit aux Similans, certains disant que ça ne vaut pas le coup si on ne fait que du snorkeling, d'autres disant le contraire, ou alors ne faire qu'une excursion à la journée vers les Surins....😐
C'est pas facile de se faire une idée des choses que l'on ne connaît pas, ceux qui connaissent ayant leur avis personnels, et comme pour beaucoup de choses, il est rare que tout le monde ait le même avis... On essaye donc de se faire une idée de si ça nous plaiera ou non grace aux différents mais nombreux commentaires que l'on peut lire, dans tous les cas on saura si ça nous plait qu'au moment où on y sera...😛
Bref, je vais continuer à potasser tout ça, mais des fois j'ai l'impression que plus je cherche, plus je doute sur faire ou non telle ou telle chose... Mais ce n'est quand meme qu'un tout petit inconvenient car a côté de ça, je suis bien contente d'avoir tous ces commentaires et sujets à parcourir😉

A priori d' aprés les infos que j' ai pu trouvé la ligne serait rétablie fin octobre. C 'est juste la partie nord de la ligne qui était suspendue.
Disons que Lampang apparait different : moins de touristes mais un environnement plus authentique. Tu auras quelques temples et la vie thaie de tous les jours (un marché vaut un temple). En revanche pour les trains j'avoue que c'est pas facile ; meme pour moi qui y serait fin novembre. Perso je descendrai de Chiang Mai a Lampang en train (ou en bus c'est 2h a peine) puis avion jusqu'a Bangkok 😉
Pour les Similans 1 journée = je ne saurais dire pour ne pas l'avoir fait (en fait c'etait sur un bateau croisiere plongéesqui nous a laissé 3h sur l'ile 8). D'aillaiurs il s'agit plus de Surin que des Similans. Kao Lak n'a en revanche aucun interet : un route avec sur les bords des hotels et des dive-shops (+ incontournables Mc Do et Cie).

Lampang est une petite ville qui mérite le détour. Vous trouverez un des plus vieux temple fortifié de Thaïlande (environs 15 km de la ville) ainsi que d' autre temples dans le centre ville, le marché de produits frais, de l' artisanat poterie et quelques belles maisons en bois. J' y suis resté deux jours et une nuit (aller retour en train depuis Chiang Mai un peu plus de 3 heures). Pour plus de photos et l' adresse d' une guesthouse voir ma page (lien en dessous)

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
