Je souhaiterais établir un itinéraire qui me permettrais de visiter le pays (les incontournables, mais une partie j'imagine car je n'ai guère bcp de temps!), puis faire 3-4 jours de farniente sur la fin.

Oui tu as raison c'est trop vague. Je me suis renseignée et voici l'itinéraire que j'ai choisi :
BANGKOK et ses alentours (4jours)
Temple Wat Phra Kaew + Palais Vimanmek +Riviere Kwai +marché flottant
PARC NATIONAL DE KAO YAI (1jour)
AYUTHAYA (1jour)
LOPBURI (1jour)
SUKHOTHAI (1jour)
CHIANG MAI et ses alentours (3 jours)
Plage (4 jours) On hésite entre Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan et Ko Tao.
Je ne sais pas du tout si ce qu'il y a à voir dans chaque ville va prendre un journée (soit plus, soit moins), de toute facon (comme à chaque fois), le programme ne sera pas suivi à 100% et c'est d'ailleurs ce qui est exitant 😉. As tu des infos à me donner sur les incontournables que je pourrais glisser dans le circuit ?
Dans tout les cas, je ne veux pas trop charger le séjour car aux dernières vacances qu'on a fait, on est rentrés pls fatigués qu'avant le départ.
Avec ce circuit, j'espère pouvoir voir différents côtés de la thailande.
Au niveau des hotels, j'ai pris des adresses sur le forum pour Chiang Mai et Bangkok mais pour le reste, que conseilles-tu ?

😉à mon sens, d'aprés ce que tu souhaites faire:
4 jours à bangkok, tu peux en voir beaucoup plus, par exemple:
* compte une matinée pour le grand palais avec une visite au wat pho attenant et une balade au marché des amulettes ; aussi tu peux te garder l'aprés-midi pour une balade le long des klongs de thonburi et un dîner en soirée sur chinatown ou phahurat
* le palais de vimanmek, vas-y le lendemain, ton billet du grand palais te donnes accés à l'entrée du parc ou se trouve le palais de vimanmek mais aussi une dizaine de demeures en teck trés belles ( récupére un plan à l'entrée notamment pour les explications sur ces demeures), par contre, là prévois 3 à 4h surtout si tu veux rester pour les danses qui ont lieu à 14h sur le côté
aussi, commence le matin par la maison de jim thompson (1h de visite ), facile d'accés ou le palais de suan pakkart
* gardes toi les divers quartiers le soir pour t'y promener et en profiter pour dîner ou faire des achats
* pour la rivière kwai il te faudra la journée
* ayuthaya 1 jour c'est bon
* idem pour lopburi et sukhotai (pense au temps des transports)
* le parc de khao yai, je ne connais pas, peut-être cet hiver aprés avoir visité phimai
* chiang mai et ses alentours en 3 jours, perso, c'est trop court, à ta place je me limiterais à visiter chiang mai et te balader en moto une journée dans l'une des vallées à proximité
* pour le farniente de 4 jours dans les îles, déjà celà dépend du mode de transport pour lequel tu vas opter au départ de chiang mai:
en bus, reste à proximité de bangkok, exemple :ko samet ou hua hin
en avion, tu peux choisir plus éloigné mais avec un aéroport(phuket, krabi, samui) par contre pour ko chang il faut que tu comptes une journée aller et autant au retour au départ de bangkok donc pour 4 jours je crois pas que celà vaille la peine ;pour les îles au sud d'andaman (tarutao ...) en 4 jours au départ de chiang mai avec retour bangkok tu vas même pas toucher le sable

En ce qui concerne les transports de bangkok a chiang mai, on prendra le train étant donné qu'on veut passer par ayuthaya, lopburi, sukhotai car le train mettra surement moins de temps que le bus, qu'en penses-tu ?

Oui j'ai prévu 4 jours sur bangkok au détriment de Chiang Mai mais bon il faut faire des choix faute de temps. Au pire j'y retournerais plus tard a Chiang mai, lorsque je ferais le triangle d'or 😉
Ensuite pour les 4 jours de plages, on a choisi l'avion, de chiang mai on va prendre l'avion pour samui (vol direct de 2h30). On va réserver les vols Chiang Mai-Samui et Samui-Bangkok avant de partir car je pense que ca va être blindé à cette période.
On m'a dit que ko samui est vraiment trop touristique, donc je pense qu'on va se tourner vers Ko Pha Ngan ou Ko Tao, as-tu fais l'une des deux ?

le train c'est moins rapide que le bus, c'est plus cher, mais c'est plus confortable. Le train ne passe pas à Sukhothai, il y a un stop à Phitsanuloke, de là il faut se taper... un bus.
Le train pour BKK-Chiang Mai c'est super si on fait le trajet d'un coup. Pour les trajets morcelés il vaut mieux varier les plaisirs.
BKK > Ayuthaya en bateau
Ayuthaya > Lopburi en train
Lopburi > Sukhothai en bus
Sukhothai > Chiang Mai en bus ou en avion (Bangkok Airways).
Pour Bangkok 4 jours c'est bien, peut-être tu devrais faire 3 jours en arrivant et 1 jour avant de rentrer
Chiang Mai 3 jours c'est le minimum (1 jour pour les visites classiques dont le Doi Suthep, 1 jour pour aller à Lamphun au centre de conservation des éléphants bien plus intéressant que les camps d'éléphants de Mae Rim ou Mae Tang, 1 jour pour une balade en montagne - VTT ou autre).
Koh Samui est aussi touristique que Koh Pan Ngan ou Koh Tao, il y a plus de touristes à Samui mais l'île est plus grande et plus variée donc on ne se sent pas entassé. Les touristes se concentrent sur 2 plages Lamai et Chaweng, il en reste plein dont certaines aussi jolies et plus calmes (bonnes infos sur le site www.travelfish.org) Pour la teuf, c'est Chaweng.

pour les transports, bangkok-sukhotai-chiang mai j'ai uniquement utilisé les bus (6h00pour sukhotai)(5h00pour chiang mai via tak)
pour les adresses, le mot "filon" serait pompeux mais voici celles pour lesquelles j'ai eu un coup de coeur
* sukhotai : le lotus village
* chiang mai :la baan orapin, kalistefy a trouvée un site web pour l'adresse et celà correspond au lieu
* samui : cactus bungalows à bo phut ou ps villa à chong mon (site web samui-info)
* ko pha ngan: le wang sai sur la plage de mae hat dans le nord
* ko tao : ko tao cottage sur ao chalok
des trois îles ma preferée :ko tao mais compte 4h au départ de samui aller et autant au retour, donc à toi de voir

Je n'ai pas répondu avant, trop de boulot...
Au final on va faire l'itinéraire en avion car ca nous laissera plus de temps de Chiang Mai et aussi de bangkok. On pourra aller au moins se rendre à Ayuthaya 😉.
Donc au départ on reste 4 jours sur Bangkok, ensuite 5 jours sur Chiang Mai et ses environs, puis 5 jours plage et enfin un jour à Bangkok avant de partir.
On ne sait toujours pas quelle ile... Dans tout les cas on arrive sur Koh Samui donc meme si on y reste pour le sejour, on aura peut etre le temps de faire une journée à Kho Pha Ngan.

Au final on va faire tous les trajet en avion Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Koh Samui, on aura un peu plus de temps opur explorer BKK et Chiang mai.
Pour l'ile on ne s'est tjs pas décidé. Mais quoi qu'il en soit on va dire qu'on va a Koh Samui et que peut etre qu'on ira faire un tour sur Koh Pha Ngan durant le séjour. Quoi qu'il en soit j'ai noté tes adresses, merci boucoup.

en réponse pour les vols intérieurs: au vu du nombre de jours passés sur chiang mai, il n'est pas utile de réserver à l'avance sauf pour des souhaits particuliers comme par exemple un horaire d'arrivée à ne pas dépasser
à chiang mai les bureaux des compagnies y sont présentes ( pour bangkok airways à proximité du marché de nuit, au bas du marché sur l'avenue qui revient vers les douves, mais aussi au 2d étage à l'aéroport; pour la thaie : 240 prapokklao rd A. muang tel: (053) 920 920, un dizaine de vols quotidiens pour bangkok )
par contre pour ko samui il est peut-être utile de réserver le vol retour ko samui /bangkok ( le prix sur place l'an dernier 1600 bahts le vol simple soit 32E environ ; renseigne toi auprés de ton agence et compare les tarifs)

Bon au final on n'est pas parti en février.......
On a choisi de partir en mars.
Voici notre itinéraire :
Bangkok -> 2 jours 1/2
Chiang mai -> 5jours
Phuket -> 5 jours
Bangkok -> 2jours
On effectuera les trajets entre les villes en avion, on a préféré réserver les vols à l'avance afin d'optimiser notre budget (l'inconvénient c'est qu'on ne pourra pas changer nos plans à la dernière minute, comme à notre habitude😕 mais bon on verra bien). On les a pris sur asia.com à peu pres 25euros le vol.
Sur bangkok on a réservé l'hotel Manthan pour avoir qqchose à notre arrivée. Chiang mai j'ai envoyé qqs mails pour avoir des infos sur les dispo des hotels. Et enfin phuket on a choisi un hotel sur karon beach.
Voila pour les prévisions, il ne faut pas non plus que ce soit trop carré, sinon autant prendre un circuit avec un tour opérateur 😉

je reviens de thailande, mais j'avais beaucoup plus de temps puisque j'y suis resté 6 semaines, je pense qu'il est raisonnable d'avoir zappé quelques uns des stops que tu comptais faire au début, notamment ko yai, non pas que ca ne soit pas intéressant, au contraire, j'y ai passé deux jours vraiment sympas, mais c'est très long pour y aller, pas beaucoup de trains ou de bus par jour, je suis restée plusieurs heures a la gare d'ayutaya, par contre, je trouve dommage de supprimer ssukkotai ('avec comme guest le lotus village) comme on te l'a précédemment conseille
sur chaing mai, va voir le site de chiangmaithouse, c'est tout neuf, tres propre, piscine, air con ou ventilo (500bah ou 800 bath) ca a été une bonne adresse.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. It’ll be our first time in Asia, and we’re thinking of hitting the classic spots in East Java and Bali, then wrapping up with a cruise around Komodo for some snorkeling/diving. My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
