voilà je pars cet hivers parcourir l'Asie du Sud Est.
Je ne sais pas encore si je pars mi-septembre ou le 9 novembre, ni exactement pour combien de temps (mais disons entre 6 mois et 10 mois). J'ai pris le plus de renseignements possible sur chaque pays (je ne compte pas emporter 10 guides de voyages) et rassembler un grand nombres d'infos sur google maps et des liens dans mes favoris.

Les questions :
1) Quel sont vos conseils et vos avis sur les itinéraires et le climat dans les pays traversés aux dates que j'indique. Est ce qu'il y a vraiment un moment où il pleut énormément ? Des passages trop froid (peut être le Laos et Nord Thaï) ou trop chaud ? Si vous aviez des aménagement à faire quels seraient ils ?
2) Je compte prendre une grosse valise à roulette avec mes affaires (linge, etc ...) à l'intérieur et un petit/moyen sac à dos que je pourrais prendre avec moi dans la journée. Cela vous parait il un bon choix ?
Pour tout vous dire j'ai peur de galérer au Cambodge où le moto-dop semble être souvent les seuls taxi pour les courtes distances.
3) 9500 € pour un tout compris (visas, vaccins/médicaments, billets avions, transports terrestres, bouffe, activités, etc ...). Sachant que je voyage entre ce que les guides classent dans la catégorie "petit budget" et "budget moyen" (en gros une chambre clean mais sans fard, avec soit clim soit ventilo et douche plutôt à eau chaude). Pour les transports je vais prendre le bus, le train et parfois l'avion sur les low cost asiatique (type air asia) en veillant à prendre des promos. Par contre de temps en temps je veux me faire un trip assez exceptionnel comme des plongées, une "croisière" approfondi en baie d'halong, peut être vol en ballon gonflable à Bagan ... Bref ce genre de chose (mais pas tout le temps, genre 1-2 fois par mois).
4) J'ai bien envie de craquer pour le derniers netbook d'ASUS (300 €), bonne idée ? Mon portable actuel est assez léger pour un 14 pouce (2, 1 kilos) mais beaucoup moins autonome et compact. De plus il commence à être "déglingué" et sale.
Les coéquipiers
Je pars seul pas par choix mais personne ne peut venir autant de temps avec moi mais je suis très ouvert à partager et battre la route ensemble et à faire des aménagements sur le planning ci-dessus. Donc si vous êtes un voyageur solo et que vous comptez parcourir un ou plusieurs pays à peu près au même date que moi n'hésitez pas à me laisser un message privé et on prendra contact (vous pouvez aussi me contacter après que je sois parti j'aurais accès au net, ).
Je veux mêler visites culturelles (temples essentiellement), nature (beau paysage, animaux, flore, chutes d'eau, etc ...) et plages (avec passage examen de plongée et plongée, snorkeling).
J'aurais un budget GLOBAL serré d'environ 9500 € maximum tout compris (avant le départ et sur place).
J'ai pas de préférence concernant le sexe et pour l'âge je suis assez large mais disons en gros entre 20 et 45 ans.
Je pense que tu te prends trop la tête à tenter de définir au jour près un si long voyage. Se serait plutôt valable en Europe ça. En Asie du sud-est, tu vas dans le mur ! Plus sérieusement, cette région du monde invite à oublier les plans bien définis. Il se peut que tu tombes amoureux de tel ou tel coin. Quel dommage de devoir partir pour tenir le planning ! Ceci étant, chacun voyage comme il l'entend mais je ne voudrais pas que tu passes à coté de ce qui pour moi, fait le charme des lieux, c'est-à-dire les rencontres.
Egalement, il y a des endroits où la grosse valise à roulettes ne sera pas très pratique, comme par exemple au Laos, au Cambodge, dans les îles et à la campagne en général. Mieux vaudrait selon moi un sac à dos non rempli (tu vas acheter des trucs ici ou là).
Pour les températures, tes parcours me semblent bien pensés.
Au sujet de l'ordinateur, si c'est seulement pour avoir accès au net, c'est peut-être pas la peine de t'encombrer car il y a des cyber cafés un peu partout. En plus tu ne craindras pas les vols ! Malin 🤪...
Coéquipiers : connais-tu le site couchsurfing.com ? Il y a souvent des annonces dans le groupe "Southeast Asia". Et puis tu pourras rencontrer des locaux si le coeur t'en dit.
je pense que tu as raison surtout sur une période aussi importante on ne peut pas prévoir au jours le jour le déroulement du voyage et tant mieux de toute façon. La seule contrainte étant souvent la date de fin du visa (et encore on dois pouvoir prolonger)
C'est juste pour avoir une idée et être rassuré sur la faisabilité de la chose.
Pour la valise et par rapport au sac à dos, ce qui m'ennuie c'est porter 15 kilos sur le dos (moins au début mais sans doute plus à la fin) pendant longtemps, surtout que j'ai une scoliose (c'est pas grave) et du coup j'ai rapidement mal au dos. Je pense peut être m'acheter un sac qui dispose de roulettes pour soulager mon dos quand àa sera possible.
L'ordi, oui c'est clair je peux m'en passé. J'étais en Thaïlande en avril dernier et j'ai toujours trouvé un ordinateur et internet. Parfois même un ordi était mis a disposition dans la guest house. Mais disons que sur ce trip il me serait utile par exemple dans les longs transport pour regarder un filme, écrire mon journal de bord, prendre des nouvelles de la France et puis aussi pouvoir en profiter tranquillement dans ma chambre si la guest house dispose du wifi. Je pense que je vais craqué car à 300 € je me ruine pas et le miens tiens la route encore mais j'ai peur de l'achever niveau "carroserie".
Courchsurfing, oui je connais. D'ailleurs j'acceuille dans 3 jours mes premiers invités, deux jeunes russe qui viennent découvrir ce qu'est la Feria. Mais j'avous j'ai pas trop creusé toutes les fonctions du site mais je vais m'y mettre.
En tout cas merci de tes conseils, ça m'aide d'avoir des points de vues extérieurs.
- Oublier la grosse valise a roulettes vu, que ds un tas d'endroits, les trottoirs st inexistants et les rues defoncees. Sacs a dos preferables.
- Babe se fait en 3 jours pas en 2 car il faut 1 jour pour y aller + 1 jour pour revenir + 1 jour pour faire la ballade en bateau avec la grotte et les chutes;
- Je me demande bien ce que vs allez faire pendant 3j a Along + 2j a Cat Ba, qui est sur les itineraires des bateaux et ou on s'emm. royalement. 2j/1nt bateau a Along, ca suffit bien, ce qui vs laisse 1j de plus necessaire pour Babe. En fait, en rogneant par-parla, je vs conseille de commencer par Hanoi (2 jours) puis de faire l'itineraire Sapa et environs-Babe-Hanoi, suivi de Tam Coc
Pour tous le details sur le Vietnam du Nord, voir toutes mes notes "Gd Tour du Vietnam NO" et "GD tour du Vietnam NE"; il y a ttes les infos necessaires -petites routes, htls sympas, restaux extras, etc.

A mon avis, tu vas te régaler...
Tu prends le temps pour chaque pays et c'est une bonne chose. Sauf peut être pour le Cambodge, 15 jours ça parait court. C'est un pays qui mérite de s'attarder. peut d'infrastructures touristiques (a part Siem reap, PP et Sianouk) ce qui veut dire aussi beaucoup de rencontres potentielle. Va au hasard dans les villages, tu trouveras toujours un hotel (parfois miteux mais bon...) et pleins de merveilles et de sourires...
Pour la valise, je comprends très bien, des problèmes de dos aussi m'ont fait opter il y a longtemps déjà pour le sac a roulette (plus pratique que la valise a roulette) et je m'en sort toujours quand même. Au Cambodge, c'est vrai que le moyen de transport tres rependu dans les agglomeration et le moto dop mais ceux ci arriveront toujours a caser ton sac, t'inquiete! (ils arrivent bien a caser 4 personnes et des materiaux divers en meme temps alors tu penses que ce n'est pas ton sac qui va les affoler!!!). Sinon, il y a souvent des touk-touk aussi et puis, ton sac, tu ne le deplaceras pas tous les jours, a priori...
Le top, si tu es quand meme capable de porter un peu un sac a dos: j'ai vu recement un sac a dos a roulettes.... Ca pourrait etre un compromis ideal.
Si tu passes par Khao Sok (pas tres loin de Krabi), n'hesite pas a venir faire un coucou et a nous raconter tes aventures, on est toujours preneurs! 🙂

Ho, non, pas de référence, moi j'achète du bas de gamme pour 3 fois rien qui me dure bien 5-6 ans quand même.
2 choses importantes:
- des roues relativement grosses (supportent mieux les chocs)
- la longueur de la poignée pour tirer le sac: il faut qu'on puisse le tirer sans être courbé, sinon, ce n'est pas mieux pour le dos!!

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? I’ll be in Malaysia with my wife, mainly in Langkawi and Penang for Christmas and New Year’s at the end of 2026.
If you’ve had the experience—and since I’ve read (though it’s not very clear) that these two islands get quite crowded during this period—would you recommend booking accommodation well in advance, or is it easy to find something on the spot?

Do you have any great tips for accommodation or any practical info to share?
We’ll be staying 5 to 7 days on each island.

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
