Voilà cette été ( départ Fin Juillet 2013) je voudrais aller au Groenland faire du Kayak/rando pendant 3 semaines à l'aventure. Mais je suis un peu perdu car j'ai moult question qui me tracasse ! 🙂
- Tout d'abord, ou aller ? J'hésite entre l'Est, L'Ouest ou le sud ( en gros partout... ). Surtout pour faire de la randonnée, et faire quelques jours de kayak si possible.
- Pour l'instant je pars seul, est-ce dangereux ?
- Faut-il avoir un téléphone satellite, balise, ou une bonne carte et une bonne boussole ?
- Quel est le budget une fois sur place ? Surtout pour la nourriture car pour le logement j'aura ma tente.
- La météo, faut-il s'habiller chaudement ? ( je suppose qu'il fera pas -30C° en plein été 😛 ). Température de confort du sac de couchage ? ( -15 C°, -5 C°, 0 C° ? )
- Les moustiques, j'ai lu qu'il y avait beaucoup de moustique par endroit, faut-il un moustiquaire de tête ? Ou un très bon répulsif et pantalon, tee-shirt manche long suffit...
- L'avion, depuis la France, c'est mieux en passant par l'Islande ou le Danemark ?
- Pour le kayak, je passerai par une agence. Faut-il une certaine expérience du kayak ? J'en ai déjà pratiqué un peu ( niveau facile ). Est-il facile d'en louer ? Faut-il un équipement spécial ou les loueurs le fournissent avec le kayak ?
J'ai l'habitude de voyager en mode "routard", mais pour le Groenland c'est vraiment l'aventure ( et tant mieux d'ailleurs ) pour glaner des informations et surtout des retours d'expériences.

Je suis allée au Groënland (vers Narsaq, dans le Sud) avec 66N en août 2011, en passant par l'Islande. 8j de kayak, avec des combi semi-étanches. Une semaine de beau temps, jamais en dessous de 0°, même la nuit. Parfois beaucoup de vent (plus de 100 km, ce qui empêche toute sortie en bateau).
Pas l'ombre d'un moustique. Pas trop de danger non plus à partir seul, je crois.
Il faut être bien équipé, car dès que le soleil décline (vers 17-18h), il commence à faire froid.
Le guide avait un téléphone satellite (et une bonne connaissance du Groënland ...).
Je n'avais jamais fait de kayak avant et n'ai eu aucun souci ; les bateaux sont insubmersibles ... 66N travaille avec un loueur à Narsasuaq, qui nous a prêté les bateaux et les combinaisons. C'est un français ... Peut-être qu'il loue aussi à des particuliers.
Pour ce qui est du choix de la destination, tous les avis concordent : à l'Ouest, c'est très touristique, plein de de bateaux ... Au Sud, c'est sauvage, et sympa avec le climat pas trop difficile. A l'Ouest, c'est encore plus sauvage, mais plus rude. Normal on est plus au Nord.
Quant au budget, je n'ai pas trop d'idée, car j'avais payé mon voyage avant de partir. Mais je sais que les guides qui organisent les voyages (donc font les courses ..) font leurs courses en Islande et envoient les palettes de boites de conserve & co au Groënland par avion. Cela leur coûte moins cher que d'acheter sur place ...
En tout cas, j'en suis rentrée enchantée, avec plein d'images dans la tête et des photos à couper le souffle. Il me tarde d'y retourner ...

Tu peux aussi partir en individuel en passant par 66°N je crois et peut etre les autres le font aussi... mais partir seul faire du kayak dans ces coins là me parait quand meme assez risqué... Il te faudrait une autre personne avec toi ou te joindre à un groupe comme moi. (Nous étions 6)
Le loueur sur place à Narsaq et à Narsarsuaq est français (comme dit dans le précédent message). Il s'appelle Jacky est loue kayak et combi semi étanches, téléphone satellite... Il suffit de le contacter : Blue Ice Explorer - South Greenland - Greenland.
A Narsaq et à Narsarsuaq tu as une auberge de jeunesse mais tu peux aussi y mettre ta tente. Lors du raid c'est bivouac sauvage.
Il y a un supermarché à Narsaq pour les provisions mais prévoir les lyophilisés de la France...
Pour les vols je suis passée par l'Islande.
Les moustiques... bien par rapport à ce que j'avais lu... pas été gênée sauf sur un bivouac. Je n'ai utilisé la moustiquaire de tete que ce jour.
Le duvet, j'avais un -6° confort plus une couverture de survie pour isoler la tente de l'humidité. La température dans la journée 30° max !!! oui oui j'ai eu un super temps 😎 et 8° dés que le soleil n'était plus là. La nuit je ne sais pas... pas regardé 😛
Concernant le Sud, l'Ouest et l'Est... Pareil que la réponse précédente à savoir :
- l'Ouest très fréquenté, très cher mais de très gros icebergs
- le Sud, plus sauvage, vert et des icebergs magnifiques. Temps généralement plus clément et ensoleillé. Rando non balisée à l'aventure mais beau paysage.
- l'Est, peu fréquenté, sauvage. Temps un peu plus capricieux et iceberg moins nombreux.

J'irai sûrement plus au Sud. Pourquoi l'Ouest est plus rude ? C'est par rapport au climat, plus froid ? Plus pluvieux ? Moins d'infrastructure ?...
Concernant les randonnées, les chemins sont-ils balisés ? Je suppose que carte et boussole peut-être d'un grand secours ! 😄

Comme je t'ai dit, non les randos ne sont pas balisées... et c'est là le problème. Il n'y a pas de chemin non plus... c'est au petit bonheur la chance quand on ne connait pas le terrain. Il faut parfois se frayer un chemin dans la végétation ou escalader... Notre guide ne connaissait pas le Groenland 😠 et nous n'avons jamais réussi à approcher vraiment l'Inlandsis... Elle nous a fait passer parfois par des endroits limites voire meme très dangereux... 🏴☠️
Ce n'est pas l'Ouest qui est plus rude mais l'Est...
Oui 30° ne te base pas là dessus, nous avons eu 10j de ciel bleu non stop une chance inouie... la fin du séjour sous la pluie et la tempête a été bcp moins fun 🤪

Pour le Sud, chez Jacky, dès ton arrivée à l'aéroport de Narsarssuaq, tu peux aller dans son café Blue Ice et acheter des cartes du coin. Tu peux aussi les acheter sur internet. Car certes les chemins ne sont pas balisés, mais par contre de plus en plus on trouve des marques sur les chemins faits par les moutons et quelques rares panneaux (au croisement d'une ferme par exemple).
C'est pour le moment balisé à l'Ouest, sur les chemins d'Ilulissat pour aller au Kanga (icefjord).

J'envisage un voyage au groenland en Aout, principalement de la marche et du camping sauvage. Je n'ai rien trouvé sur le forum mais qu'en est-il des ours…
Nous planifions un séjour en Thailande pour l'été prochain. C'est un la saison des pluies, mais cela nous permettra de découvrir des parcs forestiers (Khao yai et Khao sok à priori) en pleine floraison et avec plein de bestioles dedans. Nous aimerions pouvoir faire un petit séjour sur des plages avec des récifs coralliens pas loin sur ce séjour. C'est là que le bât blesse car j'ai du mal à trouver une ile ou une région avec une météo propice. J'ai parcouru pas mal de fils sur ce forum, mais assez anciens pour la plupart et donnant quelques noms (Tao, Phaluai, Ma ou Phangnam), mais avec des doutes sur la visibilité ou l’intérêt global. l'affluence semblait aussi un peu forte. je précise que notre famille est mixte sur les activités autour des poissons avec des plongeurs niveaux 1 et des snorkeleurs exclusifs.
Existe t-il donc des possibilités en juillet-aout pour faire de belles choses dans le secteur ?

I’d describe myself as a "former diver." I’ve done around 450 dives in natural environments across different settings. I put diving on hold about 5 years ago due to work/schedule constraints and, let’s say, family reasons. Since then, I’ve still tried to stay in shape with hiking trips, running, swimming, and freediving in protected environments, etc...
I’m planning to get back into the bubbles somewhere this year.
Any destinations you’d recommend—or avoid—for getting back into it?

For my trip to Thailand with two teens aged 13 and 16, do you have any info or tips to share? I’d like to go jet skiing, either in Phuket or Koh Samui, but I’d need at least two jet skis since there are three of us. Can my 16-year-old ride alone? We’ll be in Dahab again this October—we’ve been going since 1979—to freedive. In 2025, to our surprise, access to the Blue Hole is now paid: on top of the 10 € taxi fare, you have to pay $10 per person to enter the park. So we’re heading outside Dahab to the Three Pools site by bike, rented locally. Is there a bus that goes there, or shared taxis, instead of the tourist taxis? And where can we catch them? We’ve seen big buses full of local families on the site, but we don’t know where to find them. Thanks in advance!

For flight schedules and prices from Bordeaux, and ease of reaching Alexandria by bus/train afterward, I’m considering spending 4 days around Hurghada (direct flight from Bdx).
I don’t think I’ll go for courses to get my Level 1, since I don’t plan to dive often in the future—unless you think it’s better than doing 2 discovery dives in this area (I only have one baptism under my belt, in Koh Tao 15 years ago—amazing! But I’m not targeting trips for diving; I need to go to Alexandria, so this is a chance to get back into diving and snorkeling).
I’m looking for a spot to do some snorkeling, 1 or 2 baptisms, and explore the surroundings. I’ll arrive in early March on the evening of Day 0. I’ll have 3.5 days after that (I’m planning to leave on Day 4 around 4 PM by bus/train).
Is Hurghada completely to be avoided in favor of another area in the Red Sea, or can I still have a nice 3.5 days there? I know places like Dahab are more pleasant, but the convenience and timing of Hurghada appeal to me...
I usually prefer more authentic travel spots and places, but I’m willing to compromise on that if it’s still worth it for the diving.
Or should I only stay 2.5 days and head to Alexandria a day earlier? (I’ve already seen Cairo and Luxor a bit.)

I’m traveling with a buddy, and we don’t really want to spend all our time moving around, so if you have recommendations for one area that’s better than others for diving, that’d be great!
What do you think are the best diving sites? (I’d appreciate an overview of the country so I can decide based on that.)
Compared to my buddy, I love macro photography (nudibranchs, etc.), so I’d also love any tips on that.
And completely unrelated to diving, but I’d also like info on places to visit (national parks, reserves, etc.) to see the local wildlife.

I’m heading to Malaysia from mid-May to mid-August 2025 for nearly 3 months.
With my advanced certification in hand for a few years now, I’m on the lookout for the best dive spots in Malaysia.
I’ve obviously heard about the Perhentians and Sipadan.
Someone mentioned Tioman too, but not necessarily for diving.
Do you have any feedback on these places for diving? (visibility, marine life diversity, etc.)
Any idea about the rates for fun dives?
Dive centers you’d recommend?

I’m looking for a destination in Vietnam for January to spend a week and go snorkeling.

I know Thailand well, and with my Thai friend, we’d like to try a different country.
This is the excursion we shouldn’t have done in Mauritius.
We did it with The Friendly Dodo, but from what I saw, it’s the same with most agencies.
Departure at 6 a.m. (even though the sun rises at 7 a.m. in August). Why? Because there’s only one well-known spot where the dolphins are, and all the agencies race to get there first.
For 45 to 60 minutes, it’s just straight-line navigation to the spot. No one’s looking for dolphins—we’re just speeding there in silence, full throttle.
Once we arrive, there are already 5-6 boats. The dolphins are there, sure. The boats fight for the best position, cutting off the dolphins’ path, and then—go, go, go—everyone jumps in. Not a single instruction is given on how to approach the dolphins respectfully. Result: everyone jumps in at the same time from 3 boats, creating a huge splash, and rushes toward the dolphins. Outcome: faced with this chaos, the dolphins dive, and you can’t see them from the boat anymore. The swimmers who are right in their path might see them pass below for a few seconds at best.
Everyone climbs back onto the boats, and as soon as the dolphins resurface, the same cycle starts all over again.
After 5 or 6 jumps like this (3 of which I didn’t even see the dolphins), it’s back to the port the same way we came.
Not a single explanation is given during the entire excursion about the dolphins themselves or how to approach them.
Safety-wise, I didn’t feel comfortable either with all the boats fighting for position. I bumped into another boat (no pain) while swimming, and I wasn’t reassured about the propellers.
With all this circus, my daughters didn’t even want to get in the water. The problem is, when you stay on the boat, you don’t get much out of it either—because as soon as the dolphins resurface, everyone jumps in haphazardly and scares them off again.
Having done the same kind of outing in Réunion, I can confirm it’s nothing like this (much better organized and ultimately much more rewarding in Réunion).
Under these conditions, this is an activity we never should’ve done! !

I’ve been in Malaysia for a month now and still have two more to go. I started traveling with friends, but I’ll be solo for the next month and a half.
We did a pretty classic route: Perhentians, Cameron Highlands (which I found pointless), Tioman, and Kinabatangan in Borneo. Now I’m thinking of heading to Redang Island—Langkawi is also an option, but it doesn’t appeal to me as much. Any feedback on these two spots?

Any thoughts on the diving there?
So far, I haven’t had much luck with diving—at the Perhentians, it was pretty disastrous with water at 31°C 😵😫
I’d love to find a nice island where I can meet people (locals and travelers) because going from a group of six to solo at the end is going to feel weird.
So I’m open to all tips and opinions. Also, I’d love to hear about Langkawi, and if anyone knows of an island that’s a bit more off the beaten path, that’d be amazing. Thanks in advance, and happy travels to you all!

notre voyage en Indonésie étant annulé, et notre agence nous déconseillant l'Egypte, nous sommes à la recherche d'un lieu où nous pourrons faire du snorkeling depuis la plage (et en excursion bateau). Je connais un peu Zanzibar pour y être allé il y a plus de 10 ans, ainsi que Pemba (mais les prix ont explosé), et je me tourne aussi vers Mafia.
Est ce propice au snorkeling , des resorts ont ils des house reef où l'on peut voir des choses intéressantes (je ne m'attends pas non plus au niveau de la Sulawesi ou des Raja).

Ce que j'aime en plongée c'est l'eau claire, les fonds marins attrayants, la vie aquatique particulière, etc. Je ne suis pas une fan d'épaves, mais je considérerai tout les sites / pays proposés :)
