Je voudrais le prendre en issan et vadrouiller 1 semaine.
Je précise je conduis depuis longtemps en Asie et connais le confort et la conduite d'un tuktuk, juste je n'ai pas vu de réponse claire à ma demande.

Bjr, habitant 6 mois/an près de Lamplaymat à la campagne je n'ai jamais vu de loc de tuk tuk sans chauffeur ni même de loc de voiture, ni de moto;c'est surement possible sur les grandes villes:Buriram, Ubon, etc.....

vous laisseriez quelle caution ou garantie pour la semaine de location au propriétaire qui accepterait de vous le ''preter'' ?
Vous roulerez sans permis thai je suppose - donc pas d'assurance- ni couverture degats materiels, ni responsabilité civile (ni pour vous ni pour un tiers accidenté)
Par contre vous ne devriez pas avoir de problème pour en acheter d'occase ou neuf
restera la question de la régularisation des papiers a votre nom et de l'assurance obligatoire, du permis ... en tant que touriste
et de la revente en fin de balade

Ça, je n'en sais strictement rien car sur les deux permis de conduire thaïlandais que je possède,
sur l'un il y a un petit dessin de moto avec l'inscription " private motorcycle ";
et sur l'autre , trois petits dessins berline, pickup, minibus avec l'inscription " Private car " ;
donc rien qui puisse ressembler à " tuk tuk " ;
Qui dit pas de permis dit bien évidemment pas d'assurance comme le souligne fort justement Jungletroll ; et puis les flics thaïlandais seront trop content de se remplir ( un peu ) les poches grâce à ce farang juché sur le siège conducteur d'un tuk tuk .
Puisqu'on est dans les demandes farfelues, je signale que si on voit quelques quad en Thaïlande, ils sont interdits à la circulation sur routes publiques; et là, c'est pour tout le monde, thaïlandais, farang et autres étrangers .

moto voiture triporteur bus camion etc
et donc une procedure d examen pour l obtemption du permis

ensuite idem pour la question des assurances suivant chaque type et chaque usage
la legislation en thailande existe et est a priori pas mal faite
ce qui par contre est imparfait c est sa mise en application
donc pour un tuk prive fort probablement pss d interdction de demander a passer un examen pour le permis
mais peut etre plus difficile que pour une voiture
par contre pas de permis conduite tuktuk ou taxi pour un etranger

Puis je louer à un loueur de voitures et scooters qui fournit assurances (en connaissance du niveau d'assurance quasi nul en Thaïlande) un tuk tuk, ou plus exactement en connaissez vous un
Sur mon permis international valable dans le monde entier y compris en Thaïlande j'ai le tuktuk de poinçonné ce que doit me donner le droit d'en conduire un légalement
Pour la garantie comme tous les loueurs je pense que mon passeport doit être considéré comme une bonne caution
Si cela se fait ailleurs en bons commerçants les thais doivent pouvoir le faire sauf si une loi dit l'inverse et dans ce cas là la réponse est simple mais je n'ai trouvé personne jusqu'à présent pour me le dire

Ce n'est pas une demande farfelue j'ai fait 3 semaines l'an dernier en tuktuk au Sri Lanka avec ma femme et mon fils et le regard et l'accueil des gens était super en plus ça ne va pas vite donc le temps de regarder les paysages
Tout ça en étant indépendant
Pas de climatisation pour être malade et on peut voyager à 3 et les bagages

pour ma part j ai un peu la meme demarche mais en ce qui concerne les voies navigables et le bateeau facon locale
en thailande sedeplacer des que posible en petit bateau dans les canaux les lacs les rivieres etc c est a chaque fois magique ici !
a thailande reconnait les permis internationnaux accompagnes du permis correspondant ddu pays d origine france notamment

Je te souhaite bon courage pour ta démarche, en thai rien n'est impossible si tu as les bahts après faut voir les risques !!!!!d'après ce que j'ai pu voir en issan , un thai aura du mal a te laisser seul sur son tuk tuk;question de confiance;la règle c'est plutôt location avec chauffeur, mais bon il y a des exeptions !!!!Toujours baths à la clef !!!!

Trois étudiants français sont partit de Bangkok pour rallier Toulouse en touk-touk électrique
un périple de 20.000 KMS, 16 pays traversés en 120 jours
Objectif:: Sensibiliser sur l'énergie alternative.
Le coût du périple sur leur tuk-tuk est THB0.7 par kilomètre,
soit environ THB14,000 (+/- 370 €) pour tout le voyage. (1€=38 THB)

ce type de véhicule est officiellement interdit sur voie publique en Thaïlande , bien qu'on en voit des centaines de milliers ..si ce n'est des millions .😏

Je pense qu'il y a une petite confusion avec ce type de permis...
En fait quand on a le permis B, on a implicitement le permis B1... Ce qui signifie que, possesseur d'un permis B, vous pouvez conduire les véhicules de type B1.
De la meme maniére, si vous avez le permis A, cela implique que vous avez forcément le permis A1.
En régle generale sur les permis internationaux, ne sont tamponnés que A et/ou B ( sauf si vous n'avez que le A1 et pas le A, ou que le B1 et pas le B )..

Je ne suis pas spécialiste des sports mécaniques mais les tuk tuks thaïs me semblent plutôt dérivés d'engins japonais.
Par ailleurs, sauf erreur, le B1 correspond à "quadricycles lourds". L'image est juste un code international (le permis international n'étant qu'une simple traduction d'un permis national), les catégories de permis sont différentes d'un pays à l'autre et les équivalences sont à vérifier au cas par cas.
Or, les "quadricycles lourds" sont interdits de circulation en Thaïlande.
Par ailleurs, mon dernier message avec la photo d'un "moto-puang" ou "rot-puang" était bien évidemment un clin d'oeil.
A noter quand même que ce type de véhicule "à 3 roues" n'est pas classé dans la "catégorie 3" (tricycles à moteur) mais dans la catégorie "motos", au contraire des tuk tuks qui sont eux aussi "à 3 roues".
Il peut donc être conduit par tout étranger ayant son permis moto (à voir si la puissance motrice est différenciée mais il ne me le semble pas selon le Motor Vehicle Act 1979).

Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.

Du coup la cylindrée et la fabrication en font une catégorie de véhicules bien à part.
J'ai rajouté la photo du permis international où on voit un tuktuk en dessin et le tampon qui normalement m'autorise à conduire ces engins , rigolo non?
