je vais louer une voiture au départ de Los Angeles (d'ailleurs je panique déjà à l'avance puisque je serai seule à conduire avec mes ados et je démarre de nuit!!!!!!), puis aventure de 3 semaines dans les parcs nationaux.
J'aimerais savoir si les assurances de ma voiture de location ci-dessous sont suffisantes ou si je dois les compléter?
A priori, il faut reserver sur un site europeen, car vs aurez alors acces à des forfaits "tout" compris au point de vue assurances, à un prix interessant.
Pour la conduite à l'arrivée, vs arrivez à quelle heure? et vs avez prévu d'aller où tout de suite.
Car si vs avez vraiment peur de conduire, vs pouvez reserver dans un hotel tout proche de l'aeroport, y aller par leur navette, et le lendemain de reprendre leur navette pour retourner à l'aeroport chercher le vehicule.
Compliqué, mais faisable, quoique je prefere prendre le vehicule tout de suite et aller à un hotel proche.
Pour eviter le stress de l'arrivée et du trajet sans GPS, vs pouvez preparer votre arrivée en allant sur google maps et google street pour bien visualiser les trajets.
Pour le GPS, on conseille plutot de l'acheter sur place, dans le premier BEST BUY rencontré, par exemple.
J'espere que pour Nathalie, demarrer de nuit veut dire prendre la voiture pour aller dans un hotel tres proche, et pas commencer son voyage pour rouler la nuit en quittant LA.

Si ça concerne les passagers je suis normalement couverte par mon assurance Monde (TCS), sinon merci de me préciser?
On arrive à 21h 30 (voiture louée dès 22h) et l'hôtel est le Coral Sands Motel à North Hollywood (pas très loin de Universal).
On visite Universal le lendemain...
L'hôtel est à peu près à 20 km sauf erreur.

Non, au moins t'auras pas les embouteillages 😛 et préparer son itinéraire à l'avance avec Google.
La LIS c'est ce qui te couvre jusqu'à 1.000.000$ en cas d'accident pour rembourser les frais de l'autre véhicule ... et ça peut aller loin s'il y a des blessés 😕

Neutraliser le pied gauche, absolument. 😄 Il a tendance à vouloir presser l'embrayage... avec des résultats surprenants sur une automatique. 🤪
Entraîne-toi en sortant du parking Alamo. Tu prends à droite sur Aviation Bd, et tu peux faire le tour complet du bloc sans traverser de rue. En plus, à cette heure, tu ne devrais pas être gênée par la circulation. 😉
Le Gps est une aide précieuse dans ces premiers moments de découverte. 🙂
L'hôtel est à 24miles/38km/30mn (simu google maps) par la I.105E/I.110N puis 101 et enfin sortie 8B, mais à cette heure là, ça devrait être moins chargé !
il serait "trop cool" que tes filles (qui ont sûrement un téléphone "moderne" avec internet et Cie...) téléchargent les cartes des villes où tu vas passer, et te guident avec cette fonction GPS !!!
par contre pour la "campagne" une bonne vieille carte suffit, car il n'y a pas 36 routes entre les parcs.

La LIS est l'assurance qui vs protege con tre les recours des tiers en cas d'accident.
Si vs louez sur AAMO.FR, elle est comprise dans le forfait, à 1Million $. Donc c'est bon
Je ne connais pas les assurances frais de santé et rapatriement du TCS. Verifiez les montants, et ils ont peut etre un completement de couverture special USA.
Vs arrivez à 21H30 : c'est lheure d'atterissage ??? Si oui, comptez au mini une bonne heure pour les formalites d'immigration, et au mini 30 mns pour aller prendre la voiture.
Si vs louez directement chez ALAMO, regardez si il n'y a pas la possibilité de pre remplir le contrat en ligne avant de partir. Vs gagnerez du temps.
Autrement, pour rejoindre votre hotel, le plus "difficile" sera de rejoindre l'autoroute depuis le centre de location ALAMO.
GOOGLE fait passer par la 105, puis la 110North.
C'est vrai que d'avoir un GPS des le debut est une bonne chose. Un de vos enfants ou vs meme n'avez pas un Iphone ou autre telephone portable sur lequel vs pourriez installer une application GPS?
je profite que le sujet soit chaud ici pour poser une petite question, lorsque nous faisons une étude chez un loueur ou un intermédiaire la taxe apparaît elle? ou faut il la prendre en compte en paiement à l'aéroport (ou lieu de prise en main)?

Ne faites surtout pas ça !!! Vous allez vous perdre et mettre des heures pour atteindre votre destination... Los Angeles est constellée d'autoroutes et avec un GPS ou en ayant étudié l'itinéraire avant de partir il est très facile de s'y retrouver et d'y conduire.
Quelques règles de base :
- Choisissez une file est restez-y ! Choisissez-en de préférence une au milieu des 3,4,5 ou 6 voies qui seront à votre disposition...
- Roulez à la même vitesse que les autres. Ni plus, ni moins.
- Faites attention aux voitures qui parfois iront plus vite que vous sur la file de droite. C'est surprenant mais on s'y habitue vite.
- Pour vous repérez ne cherchez pas des noms de localités comme en Europe. Fiez-vous uniquement aux numéros des routes et autoroutes et aux indications N(orth), S(outh), E(ast), W(est) et aux numéros des sorties. C'est parfaitement indiqué. Exemple : En sortant de l'aéroport vous allez devoir prendre la I-405 North en direction de Sacramento. Ne cherchez pas Sacramento sur les panneaux (des fois ce sera indiqué... d'autres fois pas), cherchez uniquement et exclusivement l'indication I-405 North. Idem pour les sorties. Cherchez le numéro de sortie, ça suffit (attention des fois une sortie a plusieurs embranchements, 43A, 43B, 43C, etc... prenez la bonne !!!).
- Ne stressez pas, c'est très facile de conduire aux USA, même de nuit à LA... préparez-vous, soyez cool et tout ira bien.
- Une dernière chose à savoir pour conduire aux USA. Si une voiture de police se met derrière vous avec gyrophare et sirène cela signifie que l'agent a envie de faire causette avec vous. Arrêtez-vous immédiatement sur la droite de la route, coupez le moteur, ne sortez pas de la voiture, ne bougez pas et gardez vos mains bien visibles sur le volant... Ils sont un peu nerveux... Ensuite tout se passera bien...
Quelques panneaux que vous trouverez sur votre route...

A priori, le prix qui vs est donné par un ntermediaire ou un loueur sur un site europeen est un prix toutes taxes comprises.
Il n'y a rien à ajouter, sauf les eventuelles options que vs souscrirez au comptoir
evitez la société SIXT- ils vous proposent des dizaines d'option et malgré le fait de les refuser ils en font passer dans le contrat et ils vous les facturent si on ne relit pas le contrat immédiatement pour s'apercevoir de la triche
d'autre part, le constat de la voiture est toujours incomplet avec des rayures qu'on vous facture à l'arrivée. il faut faire 3 fois le tour de la voiture pour ne rien oublier
et puis on vous montre la categorie de jeep liberty mais à l'arrivée c'est une santa fe qu'on vous loue, c'est systematique chez eux

Hi there, we’ll be in Mozambique in early December 2026 and we’d like to travel from Vilanculos to Beira by car or bus to reach Beira airport. After that, we’re planning to visit Gorongosa National Park before flying back to France from Beira. We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

Were they All Terrain tires or more "standard" ones like all-season tires, for example?

I’m planning a trip to Iceland for next July-August, with a car and tent, and I’m wondering about booking campsites.
From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.
Does that give us the flexibility to stay outside a campsite for a night here and there?

I’m looking for detailed maps of this region that include small roads and tracks.
Last year, we had a fantastic road trip in the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas using Erfahren maps, but unfortunately, they don’t cover the area we’re interested in this year.

We’re planning a 13-day family road trip in Morocco this July, with six people in a Toyota Prado 4x4 (renting in Marrakech).
We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.
Here’s the planned route (in this order):

Our goal:
Atlas Mountains + desert + dunes + plateaus + valleys + a bit of coastline.
We’ll cover about 1,700 km in total.
We’re planning:
Bivouacking in the Chegaga/Iriki area
Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

We’re struggling a bit with timing and choosing activities for the part of the trip between Sesriem and Brandberg.
Day 1: Sesriem to Mirabib
Day 2: Mirabib to Swakopmund – visit Swakopmund, overnight in Swakopmund
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

However, the rental agencies we’ve found prohibit driving on the tracks to Omalo (Tusheti) and/or Ushguli (Svaneti).

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. Should I cover both sectors or just focus on the northern region?
For the parks along the Zambezi River, is it better to visit Mana Pools on the Zimbabwe side or Lower Zambezi on the Zambia side?

I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;)
So, no vans—at least not from the rental companies I’ve seen so far.
While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals?
Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.

My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.
We’d like to stay in a private reserve on nights 4 and 5.
We’re not sure which one or how to get into a private reserve. Do we need to exit Kruger Park?
On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).

When I arrive in Divundu, I’d like to head straight to the Khwai area early in the morning to one of the campsites in the Khwai Development Trust. Is the drive doable with a good 4x4 in a day?
We’ll spend 2 nights in Khwai, then 2 or maybe 3 nights in the Moremi area (Third Bridge/Xakanaxa/Mboma) before heading back to Maun to wrap up our journey.
Is that too much time to spend in each place?
