Cele fait maintenant quelques jours que je reviens scruter le forum afin de préparer notre voyage (ma femme et moi) en été 2010. 😎
Nous avons déjà pris nos billets avec Malaysia Airline pour 1000€/billet (fin juillet - début aout).
Nous avons déjà fait la Thailande 2 fois et le Vietnam aussi. On s'est donc dit pour changer un peu qu'on allait faire un tour en Malaisie.😉
Afin que vous puissiez nous conseiller au mieux voilà ce que l'on "vise" comme type de vacances: un peu de shopping, plages & snorkeling, bref un peu de détente!
Nous avons définit le parcours comme suit:
- 5j à Kuala Lumpur
- 6/7j aux Perhentians (Besar)
- 6/7j à Redang
D'après ce que j'ai pu voir sur le forum c'est un parcours assez commum pour une première fois en Malaisie.
Je viens donc vers les expert de ce pays pour la fameuses question des hotels!
Nous lisons des avis qui font assez peur sur les site comme tripadvidor ou asiaroom donc vos expériences nous serons surement utiles.
POUR KL:
Nous avons bien compris qu'il fallait que l'on soit dans le quartier de BUKIT BINTANG, nous avons donc selectionnés quelques hotels:
- RADIUS International: 40€/nuit
- Alpha Genesis: 50€/nuit
- Concorde Hotel: 60€/nuit
- Melia: 60€/nuit
- Corus: 60€/nuit
Bien entendu au niveau budget nous préferons le Radius mais selon les avis que l'on a pu dire, il semble que les chambres ont mal veilli (moissisure, odeur...). 🙁
Quelqu'un est-il déjà aller dans l'un de ces hotels récémment? Si oui pouvez vous nous donner vos avis?
POUR LES PERHENTIANS BESAR:
Nous avons vu le Coral View Resort mais de nombreux avis et image nous font vraiment douter de la propreté et qualité de l'hotel.
Sinon quels hôtels me conseillerez vous?

Nous avons passé plusieurs mois en 2008 et 2009 en Malaisie avec notre propre camion (www.cheminsdumonde.net)... la famille est venue nous rendre visite et nous les avions logé:
à KL dans le quartier du Golden Triangle... il y plusieurs hotels ou guesthouses sympas dans la rue "thingkat tong shin"... juste derrière et parallèle à la Jalan Alor...:
- Au Tropical Guesthouse.. nous avions réservé la "Presidential suite" qui n'a de présidentiel que le nom mais très propre, salle de bain privée, personnel super sympa, wifi... 160 RM pour 3 personnes... soient environ 45 euros... (http://www.tropicalguesthousekl.com/)

Sans hésiter une seconde nous conseillons D'Lagoon qui se trouve tout seul dans une petite crique au nord de Pulau Kecil... chalets, chambres, dortoirs, il y en a pour toutes les bourses, tous les âges et tous les conforts... proprio super sympa... (60 RM le chalet, 30 RM la chambre et 12RM le dortoir...) ... c'est pas la grosse usine et les sorties en mer pour faire du snorkeling, nager avec les tortues ou plonger sont inoubliables car à la carte et en tout petit groupe...

Pour les hotels à KL nous nous sommes décidés pour le Concorde Hotel (60€/nuit avec ptit dej).

Cet été nous sommes allés en Malaisie en famille ( 2 adultes et 3 enfants).
Nous sommes allés au Corus et au Coral View Resort, nous avons adoré les 2.
Le Corus est super bien situé: juste à côté des Petronas.
Au Coral View, on a pris des chambres sur la plage (un peu plus cher mais ça vaut vraiment le coup), il est juste à côté de la plus belle plage de l'ile: celle de l'hotel Perhentian Island resort ( un peu trop cher par contre celui là).
Je connais bien tous les lieux que tu mentionnes. Le meilleur conseil que nous puissions donner à ceux qui veulent des infos concernant les Perhentians c'est de leur dire qu'une fois posé dans un lieu, rien ne les empêche d'aller en visiter d'autres et de changer : cela ne pose aucun problème. Chacun d'entre nous nous avons des critères, des désirs différents ! c'est ce qui fait la richesse de chacun d'entre nous ! Bon WE de Pâques. 😉

Je voulais aussi passer quelques jours au Coral View cet été, malgré beaucoup d'avis négatifs ... (Et ceux qui sont conseillés sont déjà complets , donc ...).
Comment avez vous fait pour réserver ? Il semble qu'il faille faire un virement ( les banques facturent très cher ce service !) . Et je n'ai vu aucun site sécurisé pour payer en ligne . D'autre part , ça ne peut se faire que par le biais d'une agence . Donc que faire ? Ma fille tient absolument à faire un tour aux perhentians et j'avoue qu'avoir à planifier les choses à l'avance me rebutte pas mal ! Je n'ai jamais versé quoique ce soit jusqu'à présent pour des résas d'hôtels . Un mail suffisait en général . Est ce spécifique à cet endroit ?

Pour les Perhentians, et surtout l'été, il faut mieux reserver à l'avance, on a vu des gens repartir par le bateau car tous les hotels étaient complets.
On a bien aimé le Coral View, on avait des chambres sup, sur la plage, peut etre que celles standards sont moins bien, ça j'en sais rien.
On est passé par l'agence journeymalaysia et pour payer j'ai du faire un virement bancaire, ça m'a couté 15.80€ de frais au credit agricole.
Je pense que le fait de devoir reserver est un peu spécifique à cet endroit effectivement, mais bon pour nous tout s'est très bien passé.
Merci pour ces infos ! Je viens d'écrire à l'agence Journey Malaysia . Ils m'ont répondu . Malheureusement , il n'y a plus de Sea View . Nous avons donc opté pour 2 garden views qu'ils appellent "deluxe" . Les plages autour ont l'air superbes et pour dîner Le Mama's n'est pas loin ; Ca devrait donc le faire .... J'espère juste que l'agence est fiable . C'est vrai que c'est la 1ère fois que je fais une résa d'hôtels par le biais d'une agence . Mais si il y a tant de monde , c'est qu'il doit y avoir une raison ! j'ai trouvé un vol qui arrive à 14:35 à Khota Bharu ; Espérons que ça ne sera pas trop tard pour attraper le dernier bateau !
Il y a à peu près une heure en voiture pour aller de Kota Bharu à la jetée.
Nous on avait passé la nuit à Kota Bharu ( pas trop super comme ville) et on est allé à la jetée tôt le matin.
On a fait plusieurs reservations avec journey malaysia, dont une location de minivan à un tarif très interessant, on a toujours été très satisfait, notre interlocutrice était carmen Chan.
Pour aller manger le mama's n'est pas loin, c'est très bon et pas trop cher. Par contre il ne faut pas y aller trop tard le soir, sinon il n'y a plus de place.
Il y a aussi le watercolor où il y a de la bière ( il n'y en a pas au Mama's) et un autre dont j'ai oublié le nom.

j'essaie depuis 10 jours de réserver un hôtel à Besar pour 4 nuits en août 2010, par e-mail en direct et pour l'instant n'y arrive pas :
le tunay bay resort : complet
le coral view, le cocohut chalet, : ne me répondent pas
Je descends en gamme et ai envoyé ce matin un mail au watercolours : pour l'instant pas de réponse. Vous connaissez ce resort ? ça a l'air assez basique et les commentaires ne sont pas tous terriibles
mais je n'ai pas envie de mettre 80 euros par nuit pour le perenthian island resort ou le bubu long beach.
Je préfèrerais besar à Kecil et en moyenne catégorie (40, 50 €)
Dans la catégorie basique : Abdul chalet a de bons commentaires mais pas d'e-mail.
J'ai demandé conseil à journeymalaysia mais il ne me donnent que des tarifs. De plus, la disponibilité n'est confirmée qu'après paiement, alors si cela demande 4 ou 5 jours, que le paiement est passé et qu'il n'y a plus de place, je fais quoi ?
Vous me conseilleriez quand même de passer par une agence ?

Le watercolor est à côté du Coral View, il avait l'air bien, on y mangeait souvent car ils ont de la bière ( pour mon mari).
Je suis passée par journeymalaysia et je n'ai payé qu'après avoir une reservation ferme et définitive.
Ca ne me parait pas possible qu'il vous demande de payer si vous n'avez pas de place.
Il reste la solution du coup de fil, ce qu'il faut faire par exemple pour aller au Mama's.
Personnellement j'ai trouvé que tous les hotels sur ce côté de l'ile avait l'air sympa, je n'ai vu aucun boui boui.

Je vais voir s'il y a une autre façon de procéder pour payer .

De notre côté nous avons réservé au Concorde Hotel à Kuala Lumpur pour 228MYR la nuit (~55€), directement sur leur site web.
Pour les perhentians nous nous sommes décidés pour le Perhentians Island Resort sur Besar (un peu cher mais bon c'est pour notre voyage de noces!). 😎
Apparement en vous lisant je crois comprendre que les hotels sur les Perhentians, il faut passer par des agences pour réserver. J'ai donc envoyer un demande de réservation via journeymalaysia, maintenant waitand see! J'espère qu'il va rester de la place, car j'ai l'impression que les hôtels sur ces îles sont pris d'assaut.
Rien à voir avec les hotels, mais je compte me faire faire des costumes sur mesure, surement à Kuala Lumpur, avez vous de bonnes adresses? Lors de mes séjour en Thailande j'ai pu faire des costumes pour 60-80€ pièce de bonne qualité et fabrication. 😉

J'ai envoyé un mail à journeymalaisia vendredi et toujours pas de nouvelles j'espère demain.
Pour la suite de notre preparation, nous allons nous occuper de la suite du séjour soit 3 nuits à Redang puis 4 sur Kapas.
Pour le Redang, notre choix n'est pas figé encore, on a vu le Laguna (mais bien cher) ou alors le Holiday Villa.
Et sur Kapas, nous avons choisi le Qimi Chalet (d'après tous les commentaires sur le forum, c'est tip top!).
J'espère qu'il y aura encore le VIP Chalet de disponible pour nos dates!!! Je suppose qu'il y a peu de chalet!

Je reviens donner quelques nouvelles après m'être occupé de mes réservations etc... A priori tout est booké pour notre voyage, le programme:
Kuala Lumpur (4 Nuit) au Concorde Hotel
Puis on prend l'avion (Malaysia Airline) de KL à Kota Bharu pour aller au Perhentians BESAR. On va séjourner au Coral View Resort en Deluxe Sea View (pas de réponse pour le perhentians island donc on s'est rabattu sur le Coral) pendant 8 nuits. 😎
Après on prend un bateau de Perhentians à Redang, où l'on va séjourner 3 nuits au Coral Redang Island Resort.
Ensuite en reprend la route pour l'ile de Kapas où nous restons 4 nuits au Qimi Chalet dans le VIP Chalet (Rose a pu confirmer notre réservation pour nos dates ;) 😉
Pour finir retour 2 jours sur KL (au départ de Kuala Terengganu) avant de repartir en France!
Pour les hotels sur Perhentians et Redang nous sommes passés par Anjung Holydays (agence) qui semble sérieuse et trés réactive (réponse au mail 24h après hors WE). http://www.pulauperhentian.com.my/

Ah j'oubliais, de Perhentians à Redang, l'agence nous a affreté un bateau, car il n'y a pas de bateau régulier qui fais Perhentians --> Redang apparement, donc soit!
Par contre ca fait un peu cher, mais bon on a pris quand même pour eviter de trop s'embêter sur avec nos bagages! 😛
Par hasard s'il y a des voyageurs qui doivent faire Perhentians Redang le 3 Aout 2010, on pourra partager le bateau et ainsi réduire les coûts de transports ;)
En tout cas n'hésitez pas, le bateau est prévu pour 8 personnes 😉

Bon maintenant que le voyage est tout bouclé (avions, hotel...), m'a femme vient de tomber enceinte ;)
Bien evidement, mes questions se porte sur notre voyage et la grossesse de ma femme.
Elle sera entre 2 et 3 mois de grossesse lorsque nous serons en Malaisie.
Je sais que quoi qu'il arrive notre médecin sera le plus apte à nous renseigner mais j'aimerai tout de même avoir les retour d'expérience des vforumeurs... :p
Au niveau de l'avion est ce que ca va le faire? (y'a pas de raisons normalement)
Sur place nous ferons bien évidemment attention à l'alimentation et à l'eau mais QUID des moustiques. Nous avions l'habitude d'acheter un spray anti moustique avec 50% de DEET mais ce produit est décounseillé pour les femmes enceintes, connaissez vous un produit qui pourrait aller ?
Par rapport à notre parcours y'a t-il des problèmes d'hygiènes particuliers (KL - Perhentians - Redang et Kapas)?

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

I’ll be in Malaysia with my wife, mainly in Langkawi and Penang for Christmas and New Year’s at the end of 2026.
If you’ve had the experience—and since I’ve read (though it’s not very clear) that these two islands get quite crowded during this period—would you recommend booking accommodation well in advance, or is it easy to find something on the spot?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!
I think there are, but I’d need more details!!
I went to Thailand in February 2025 and don’t remember having to apply for a visa—is that still the case now? And for Cambodia too?

For our Bangkok-Sukhothai trips, I use a company I’ve already tried, but they don’t have a fleet available from Sukhothai and have to go through third-party companies—which, understandably, take their commission. This nearly doubles the prices...

My trip’s coming up, and I’m having a bit of trouble with three bus/minivan routes. Usually, I find everything at this time of year, but this time—yikes!
Sandakan → Sepilok:
No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
