Après avoir glané beaucoup d'infos sur ce forum (merci en particulier à Asia7, Larsay, Kimtwo, et Henon21 avec qui j'ai échangé sur le forum Indonésie qui est plus ma spécialité😊), il me reste qqs questions sur notre voyage qui débutera le 19 sept a Hanoi et se terminera un mois plus tard à Ho Chi Minh Ville.
Comme d'habitude, le parcours est à peu prêt décidé dans ses grandes lignes, , sachant qu'il sera modifié au gré des rencontres, de la météo, des imprévus, On sautera aussi une ou plusieurs étapes si ce beau programme est trop chargé😛
Seul l'hotel à l'arrivée à Hanoi est réservé.
Voila donc le parcours prévu (pas très original) à la louche (ça va forcément bouger pendant le voyage) et les questions qui en découlent :
Hanoi 2j
Cat Ba + baie de Lan Ha (+ Halong ?) 4j (dont 0,5j transport depuis Hanoi et 2j de "croisière")
"Boucle" de Ha Giang-Dong Van-Meo Vac 3j
Bac Ha 2j
Tam Coc 2j
Hue, 1 ou 2 j en fc de la météo
Hoi An 1 ou 2j en fc de la météo
Mui Ne ou Con Dao ( ou ... ?) 4j
Delta du Mekong 2-3j suivant le temps restant

On louera les services d'un chauffeur pour le nord (Ha Giang Dong Van) et peut-être dans le delta du Mekong
Pour le reste, tous les billets de transports seront achetés sur place : billets combinés Hanoi->Cat Ba, Cat ->Ba-Ha Giang , Sapa ou Lao Cai -> Nonh Binh, puis train pour Hue et train ou bus pour le sud (Mui Ne ou autre ?)
Mes questions :
- baies de Lan Ha/Halong : la baie de Lan Ha est-elle aussi belle que Halong (la foule en moins) ? Est-il nécessaire de parcourir une partie de la baie d'Along en plus de la baie de Lan Ha en 2j (1 nuit a bord) depuis Bac Ha ?
- j'ai lu qu'on peut réserver ss pb cette "croisière" dans de nombreuses agences à Cat Ba : avez-vous des agences a conseiller/éviter ?
- achat à Cat Ba d'un billet combiné Cat Ba-Hanoi-Ha Giang : je suppose que les hotels ou des agences proposent ce service ?
- pour la boucle Ha Giang - Dong Van-Meo Vac" :
* Est-il possible de prendre une voiture à Ha Giang et se faire déposer au retour à Bac Ha ?
* La réservation d'une voiture avec chauffeur parlant anglais (ou français si cela existe) est-t-elle possible depuis Hanoi ? Connaissez-vous des agences ? On souhaiterait se faire récupérer a Ha Giang à la sortie du bus et se faire déposer à la fin à Bac Ha : est-ce possible ?
- après la "boucle du nord-est", le détour pas Sapa vaut-il le coup pour les paysages ? les paysages de rizières sont-ils vraiment les plus beaux autour de Sapa, ou y en-a-t-il d'autres vers Bac Ha/Ha Giang/Dong Van ?
- on sait qu'on risque un temps (très ?) pluvieux à Hue-Hoi An fin septembre/début octobre : bien que la météo ne soit pas une science exacte, est-on sur d'etre sous un déluge ou peut-on avoir des journées seulement humide avec des pluies intermittentes ? Si on est certain d'etre sous l'eau du matin au soir, on ira au sud directement.
- Mui Ne : on aime bien se poser qqs jours en bord de mer pour snorkeling/repos en fin de voyage : j'avais envisagé d'aller à Con Dao mais la mer a l'air agitée a cette période, du coup j'ai pensé aller à Mui Ne qui a l'air au soleil et assez sympa (surtout les environs) malgré l'absence de snorkeling et la langue russe que je ne maitrise pas (!) : votre avis sur ces 2 destinations (ou autre ?)
- Delta du Mekong : être basé à Can Tho 2 jours est-il un bon plan pour visiter les environs (avec agence ou chauffeur ? qu'est ce qui est le mieux ?) Sinon quel parcours conseillez-vous en 2-3 jours ? faut-il avoir un chauffeur ou peut-on se débrouiller sans perdre trop de temps et sans rater des bons plans (canaux, villages, ...)

La course ! On ne roule pas à plus de 40 km dans tout cela, sauf rares autoroutes, et jamais la nuit, qui tombe tôt. Déjà, vs pouvez oublier la boucle Ha Giang-Dong Van etc. en 3 jours. Il faut 1 jour pour monter de Hanoi à HG, 1 j pour HG-Dong Van, 1 j pour DV-Méo Vac-HG , et vs n'avez pas le jour entier indispensable pour visiter autour de Dong Van (fort françs du Pu Lo, belvédère et village Lolo de Lug Cu et château du roi des H'mong de Sa Phin) ; il faut 4 jours
Hue demande 2 jours pleins et Hoi An au moins 2.
Je zapperais donc Muine ou Con Dao, on ne vient pas au Vietnam pour un séjour plage vu qu'il n'y a aucun activité nautique à part du jet ski je en sais trop où.
Définitivement la baie de Lan Ha. De toute façon, grosse bagarre depuis des années entre les autorités de Lan Ha, qui dépendent de Haiphong, et celles de Halong City, donc les jonques de LH ne peuvent pas naviguer ds Halong et vice-versa. Tous les opérateurs de jonques vendent des croisières incluant le transfert AR Hanoi-Cat Ba ; achetez la croisière à Hanoi, vs paierez le même prix qu'à Cat Ba et éviterez les arnaques au transport en solo
Pas de chauffeur parlant anglais ou encore moins français à Ha Giang. De toute façon, pas besoin d'anglais pour faire Ha Giang-Bac Ha (qui prend la journée aussi), rien à y visiter en route. Les paysages de Bac Ha (et les minorités) sont très différents de ceux de Sapa ; je dis toujours qu'il faut faire les deux, mais avec votre temps limité...
Très siple pour le cliamt. Avant de vs engager ds le Centre, vs tapez "météo Hue" et "météo Hoi An" sur Google, cliquez sur "Accuweather" et décidez selon les prévisions affichées.
Dans le sud, faite le joli circuit :
Jour 1 : Saigon-Cai be (visite des maissons anciennes du quartier de Dong Hoa Hiep et excellent déjeuner ds la plus belle, celle de Mme Kiet) + ferry 20 mn Cai Be-ile de An Binh + moto-taxi jetée-village de An Binh (nuit à l'excellente maison d'hôtes Phuong Ngoc )
J 2 ; balade vélo ds l'ile + ferry 15 mn An Binh-Vinh Long + bus VL-Can Tho
J 3 : marché flottant de Cai Rang + bus CT-Saigon

Comment çà rien à visiter sur la route entre Ha Giang et Bac Ha...et du côté de Hoang Su Phi au nord et au sud de cet endroit?
Il faut aller voir les plus belles rizières qui se trouvent là bas!
Il faut choisir entre enfiler les km sans faire quelques petits détours, les yeux rivés au macadam = rien à voir 😕 et optimiser en sélectionnant quelques secteurs sans vouloir absolument tout faire.

Mui Ne. Malgré mon bon niveau en russe j'ai péné à mui ne. Son atout principal son les dunes de sables et qq balades en riviéres avec des agences locales. Les vélos en loc. n'étaient tjrs pas top.Par contre vaste choix de resto poissons fruit de mer. Nya Trang était bcp plus passionant et agité pour le Russe comme pour le bord de mer.
Erreur de ma part pour "rien à voir", je pensais à la route Hanoi-Ha Giang. La route HG-Bac Ha par Hoang Su Phi et Xin Man est effectivement très belle

Mes questions n'étaient pas claires !! effectivement avec les trajets inclus ds le temps annoncé ds mon post, ça fait vraiment court.
Mais quand je dit 3 jours qq part, c'est le temps effectif prévu sur place, le temps de déplacement pour atteindre ce lieu est prévu par ailleurs, par ex :
- 3j pour la boucle Ha Giang, c'est depuis et vers Ha Giang et non Hanoi, le trajet Hanoi Ha Giang étant en sus
- idem pour Hue/Hoi An auquel il faut ajouter le trajet entre les 2 villes.
J'avais compté tous ces trajets ... mais sans les citer ds mon post
De même qd je parlais de chauffeur, je pensais passer par une agence pas en direct
Coté climat sur le centre, comme conseillé, je regarderai les prévisions Accuweather avant de prendre le train pour Hue ... sinon on filera directement a Can Tho ou HCV en avion pour effectuer la boucle que vous conseillez

Encore merci pour vos très bon conseils sur l'Indonésie , ils furent précieux et efficaces . D’où un très bon souvenir de notre périple . 2 mois plus tard nous repartions pour le Nord Viêt Nam .
Baie d'Ha Long et/ou Baie Lan Ha . Je suis très perplexe pour donner un avis objectif. J'ai visité la première en 1992 , puis 1996 et 2003 (les premières nuits sur Jonques) et enfin Lan Ha en 2015 .
A ce jour , bien sûr, je préfère Lan Ha et ce sans doute parce que les images d'Ha Long avec ces centaines de bateaux plus ou moins grands me rebutent . Oui nous avons aimé Lan Ha pour son calme , ses petits villages de pécheurs , ses rochers et nous y retournerons . Mais nous ne pouvons oublier Ha Long avec ses pics impressionnants, ces clichés de "la Théière" , le " Combat de coqs" etc... . Difficile de conseiller.
Quelqu'un me disait : c'est comme si tu conseillais un touriste, sur l'île de la cité, de voir la Sainte Chapelle au lieu de Notre Dame (avant l'incendie) . Un autre me disait : tu me conseilles Lan Ha mais je ne m'imagine pas pour mon voyage de noces de voir le Vietnam sans la baie d' Ha Long .et il en a été très content .
Suivant les personnes, leur style, leur façon de voyager , leurs aspirations je conseillerais l'une ou l'autre . Cela ne va pas vous aider 😉

Ce qu'on appelle "la baie d'Along" se compose en fait de 3 baies : Lan Ha, préférable en 2 jours car chenaux trop petits pour les gros bateaux de croisière, donc moins de monde et moins sale ; Along proprement dite au nord de LH, et Bai Tu Long au nord d'Along, avec certaines grandes iles avec hotels de plage, à faire de préférence en 3 jours.
Ceci dit, je défie quiconque de faire la différence de paysages entre LH et Along !

Merci, il y a donc des chances qu'on reste sur notre idée initiale de 2 jours a Lan Ha plutot que 3 jours entre Halong et Lan Ha

A la suite de toutes les informations que vous m'avez communiqué en public ou en privé, mon beau parcours initial a été sérieusement remanié.
J'ai retenu en particulier les conseils suivants, qui pourront servir a d'autres voyageurs :
- les baies de Lan Ha et Halong sont quasi identiques en terme de paysage => nous irons donc à Lan Ha, vu que le nb de jonques y est très nettement inférieur.
- organiser sa croisière a Cat Ba en y allant pas ses propres moyens n'est économe ni en temps ni en argent (et on risque de tomber sur un mauvais bateau) => on va donc faire appel a une agence pour organiser tout cela
- les plages du sud (Mui Ne, Long Hai, ...) ne valent pas le détour .... surtout qd on ne pratique ni le russe ni le chinois 🙁 => on zappe. Qd aux iles Con Dao ce n'est pas la bonne saison pour le snorkeling
- prendre son temps ds le delta du Mekong avec des balades en barques ou vélo => on restera probablement 5 jours, voire 6 (3 initialement prévus)
- les contacts locaux d'agence ou chauffeur que vous m'avez donné en privé nous ont bp plu, nous allons donc faire appel a l'un d'eux pour visiter le nord en 8 jours, (contre 5 jours en courant prévu initialement 😛)
- je vous remercie aussi pour les adresses de guesthouse, certaines nous accueillerons surement (Hoi An, Can Tho, Vinh Long et/ou Ben Tre)
On devrait donc s'approcher de cela (rien n'est figé à part le début, bientôt réservé) :

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).
I need some expert advice on these two destinations for a 15-day trip. We land in KL and plan to stay for 2 days before heading to Borneo and finishing with an island for snorkeling.
For those who’ve been, what are your must-sees?
We were thinking of spending the last 3 days on the Perhentian Islands, unless you’ve got another island to recommend near Borneo.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. What do the experts here think? And which website can we use to book the tickets? Thanks in advance for your tips!

After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
