J'ai la possibilité de partir en expat à madagascar, en volontariat international administratif pendant 1 an, j'aimerais que mon compagnon m'accompagne. mais comment cela est -il possible en terme de visa, en sachant que nous ne sommes ni mariés, ni pacsés...? connaissez-vous les possibités offertes?

Même marié, il te faudrait y aller d'abord, obtenir une carte de résidente et faire une demande de visa pour regroupement familial... pas très pratique !
la solution la plus simple (et la seule à mon avis) est qu'il sorte du pays tous les 90 jours... et fasse des visa de tourisme.
Tu peux appeler l'ambassade pour avoir confirmation, il faut insister pour les avoir mais ils arrivent à te renseigner au final. Ceci dit pour avoir expérimenté les visa longs séjour je pense qu'il n'y a pas d'autre solution que le visa touriste !
Ton ami peut aussi essayer de trouver un travail, voire un "boulot" en bénévolat dans une asso malgache, pour obtenir un visa (attention à ne pas prendre une petite asso qui débute car les papiers à remplir pour la prolongation du visa comprennent les statuts de l'asso et des descriptifs d'activité sur une assez longue période).

Il devra faire plusieurs visa touriste à la suite, en ressortant du territoire donc à Mada ça veut dire A/R pour la réunion, Mayotte, Maurice ou plus loin (en avion ou en bateau éventuellement) et nouveau visa au retour.
On ne peut pas faire prolonger un visa touriste, si tu veux un visa longue durée il faut prendre avant le départ un visa transformable. Eventuellement faire un premier visa touriste, trouver un boulot, aller à la Réunion et faire faire un visa transformable à prolonger pour la suite du séjour...
à ma connaissance pas de limitation de nombre pour les visa touriste (de 90 jours, donc).
Tu as très bien résumée la situation, le plus "simple" reste de sortir tous les trois mois et je confirme que ce n'est pas limité le nombre d'A/R.
Evidemment ça implique un billet pour une des destinations cités et un nouveau visa (65€) à chaque rentrée sur le territoire.

Je pense que si vous êtes mariés et que tu as un contrat ce n'est pas la même situation, tu dois pouvoir obtenir un visa pour elle aussi.
Et pour Nosy be, disons que je n'aime pas parler de ce que je ne connais pas... mais qu'à mon avis vivre quelque part et y passer juste quelques temps ce n'est pas la même chose, tu ne vivras pas dans un hôtel peuplé de touristes ou de vieux mâles en chasse, et on peut rencontrer des gens bien partout. Et être bien partout. Pas mal de gens ici n'aiment pas Tana et y passent le moins de temps possible lors de leurs séjour, moi j'y ai habité plusieurs mois et j'ai beaucoup aimé cette ville...
C'est vrai que Nosy Be on aime ou on n'aime pas! Pour ma part, je n'apprécie pas particulièrement cette ile mais tu risques de te retrouver loin des lieux touristiques et il y a des parties de l'ile qui sont magnifiques et préservées. Tu vas peut être aussi avoir le temps de te déplacer un peu sur grande terre. A mon avis toute expérience est bonne à prendre.
Pour ton compagnon, le plus simple serait de vous marier avant de venir à Madagascar afin de bénéficier d'un regroupement familiale sinon la sortie de territoire tous les 90 jours marche bien par contre c'est vrai que ça demande de partir avec un peu d'argent en poche (il faut compter 350€ nosybe/réunion et environ 290€ pour mayotte). Je le fais depuis 4 ans. Je vit 6 mois de l'année à Madagascar. Mon copain a un visa investisseur étranger mais comme on est pas marié, on ne peux pas bénéficier de regroupement familiale (concubinage et pacse ne sont pas reconnu à madagascar) alors je vais à la Réunion au bout de 90 jours, passe un WE ou une semaine à la Réunion et revient avec un nouveau visa de 90 jours. Pour l'instant je n'ai jamais eu de problème. Les douaniers chipottent toujours un peu mais c'est plus par principe parce qu'il n'y a aucun texte limitant le nombre d'entrées sur le territoire malgache.
Madagascar est un pays qui mérite de s'y attarder. Il est vrai qu'il est parfois dur de composer avec le tourisme sexuel (surtout en étant une femme) mais résumer Madagascar à cela serait extrèmement réducteur pour cette ile aux milles merveilles.
