Where to go this summer on a tight budget?

Hi there! 😊 I’d love to take my two kids (12 and 14) away in July. We’ve never traveled all three of us together before. My son would like to go to Italy, but nothing’s set in stone… We’d like to go abroad, but I have two tricky conditions: - Budget max 1000 € all-in, I’ve tried but I can’t save any more than that 😅 - I have some health issues, so… I can’t drive for more than 2-3 hours. No way we can go by car. Also, once we’re there, I can’t do long hikes or sports (short walks and swimming are fine).

Any ideas, please?

I’ve started looking at Airbnbs and the prices are reasonable, but as soon as I check flight tickets 😵💸🔥

Maybe it’s better to go for an all-inclusive place like Booking.com?

Thanks so much to anyone who can help! 😊

- budget max 1000 € all-in, no matter how hard I try I can't save more

If flight tickets are included in the budget, it won't be easy.

The cheapest destination from Bordeaux is Portugal. You can find flights to Lisbon for under 100 € in July. Check out what's available for rent by the sea around Martinhal or elsewhere...

Hi there

I’d recommend Albania—it’s diverse and really affordable. Transavia has some great deals to Tirana.

Bordeaux to Tirana is 360 € per person including luggage...

1000 € for 3 people in the summer, without driving and without camping, is a near-impossible mission.

You can use Google Flights' "Explore" tab to see which destination would be the cheapest by selecting Bordeaux and "anywhere" as the destination. Just be aware that prices often don’t include checked luggage and sometimes not even carry-on bags.

The cheapest options are the Basque Coast or Portugal.

I don’t know Portugal, but the Basque coast with cities like Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and others is pretty upscale. Or were you talking about the Basque coast on the Spanish side?

For Italy, you could look into campsites. Same goes for France, by the sea or elsewhere. That said, a 1000 € budget is barely enough for a week’s stay at a campsite in the south of France. Hardly.

I only wanted to talk about the budget allocated for transport. There are low-cost flights from BDX to Lisbon or Porto. For the coast, though, you’d probably want to look at the Landes area—Biscarrosse, for example.

In the Landes around Biscarrosse, campsites with Mobil-Home rentals are expensive for just one week in high season.

In August, for three people, a Mobil-Home rents for 1500/2000 € per week.

And that’s actually cheap compared to other places.

Hi,

I might have read too quickly, but you didn’t specify how long the trip is for.

Hi Éline With teens, consider the train: there are European youth passes that let them travel cheaply in the summer.

Anyway, if you come back to the forum... 😕
