Je pars en Chine à Guangzhou (Canton) en septembre-octobre 2010 pour un premier voyage de 4-5 mois, en vue de faire une analyse préalable de marchés pour créer un commerce et m'installer définitivement là-bas.
Je ne parle pas le Chinois, mais à Canton beaucoup de gens parlent Anglais je crois.
Je privilégie une location chez " l'habitant " pour une immersion totale et apprendre la langue.
Je sollicite les renseignements, conseils et recommandations des personnes qui connaissent bien la Chine et Canton en particulier.
Ma première interrogation est le budget sur place...
Je pense qu'avec 500€ par mois je dois pouvoir vivre décemment en comptant tout sachant que le salaire moyen d'un chinois doit être environ 200 €...?
- Location chez l'habitant (appartement ou pièces indépendantes)
- Nourriture locale
- Transports (métro, taxi, bus, etc.)
- Internet, etc.

comme l'a indiqué némo, peu de personnes parlent Anglais à GZ. On a beau être près de HK...(même si à HK, les gens parlent surtout cantonais ds la rue).
Pour ce qui est du budget, je pense que c'est faisable. si tu as d'autres questions n'hésité pas..je suis resté 5 mois à GZ.

Je ne mets pas en doute tes propos mais j'aime les explications concrètes.
Pour le commerce, j'ai quelques pistes, mais c'est sur place que je prendrai la vraie décision, c'est pour cette raison que je vais y rester plusieurs mois.
En tout cas, ce sera faire connaître des produits ou savoir faire Français.

Bien sûr que la location chez l'habitant existe.
Cela se fait officiellement, avec déclaration au commissariat du quartier.
Mais le plus souvent, l'habitant restera dans son coin pour ne pas te gêner et tu n'auras pas beaucoup de contacts avec lui !
Tu trouveras peut-être plus facilement une colocation avec un Occidental.

Si jamais tu decide de faire un stop pekin je te recommande de prendre un stage intensif de langue chez LTL c'est ce que j ai fiat et ca m'a beaucoup aider pour mes debuts. Les tarifs sont plus que reonable et l'enseignement y est de qualites. 2 semaine intensive et apres tu pourras te debrouiller pour te diriger, passer commande, etc..

OUi, la location chez l'habitant existe. Je viens de rentrer aujourd'hui de Chine où j'avais une location de 3 mois chez l'habitant, à Xi'an très précisément.
Je l'ai trouvée en cherchant sur place moi-même personnellement lors de mon précédent séjour là-bas et en gardant très fréquemment le contact soit par courriel soit par téléphone avec mon adorable propriétaire, une charmante veuve chinoise qui m'a loué une partie du premier étage de sa maison.

Puisque c'est un forum public et non pas une conversation privée ;), je réponds.
Je suis aussi du même avis que Nemo. Vivre chez l'habitant voudrait plutôt dire vivre dans le même logement et donc avec la famille (= famille d'accueil) et non pas louer une partie de leur propriété. C'est en fait la façon dont on l'entend en français et cela n'existe peut-être pas en Chine. Louer un logement indépendant d'un Chinois est complètement différent. C'est une simple relation commerciale et rien de plus.
Je sais que lors des JO, des Chinois aisés ont ouvert leur logement à des hôtes étrangers (moyennant finances, évidemment) mais c'était pour une très courte durée (2 semaines ;)) et peut-être bien que ce n'est pas courant en Chine.

Je pars pour 6 mois à Guangzhou.
J'ai trouvé une location chez un particulier, et non pas vivre avec l'habitant, merci pour la nuance...
Un appartement de 70 m2 avec terrasse sur le toit, car je serai au 4ème et dernier étage d'une maison occupée par une famille, chaque appartement (1 par étage) ont une entrée indépendante par un escalier commun.
Le loyer sera de 2200 yuan par mois hors eau et électricité.
Ce n'est pas dans le centre même de Guangzhou, mais à la périphérie, proche d'une ligne de métro.
Mais l'appartement est vide de meuble, donc j'ai trouvé pour mes 2 premiers mois, une colocation avec un Français dans Tian He district.
Sur place j'aurai le temps de visiter l'appartement vide et le meubler comme je souhaite.
Je donne ces détails pour les futurs chercheurs, cela leur donne une info.

Non seulement je parle, lis et écris le chinois, mais je viens de passer le HSK* intermédiaire à Xi'an, raison de mon séjour prolongé.
En ce qui concerne mon logement, puisque tu prétends tout savoir, je ne vais pas perdre mon temps car de toute façon, tu polémiquerais comme d'habitude.
* Le HSK élémentaire-intermédiaire ou standard * (Elementary-Intermediate HSK) est le niveau minimum de compétence en chinois pour être admis dans un collège ou une université chinoise ou le niveau deux d'un cours de chinois langue seconde. Je pars également sur Canton le 8 septembre, pour une durée de 6 mois minimum. J'y ai effectué plusiseurs stages auparavant et là je vais tenter d'y trouver du travail (domaine commercial).
Je cherche également un appart en ce moment, mon amie qui est sur place en aurait trouvé de bon rapport qualité-prix (environ 2000rmb) en centre ville, proche hua yuan jiu dian (garden hotel). Vérification sur place ...

Je pars le 2 octobre pour 6 mois également.
Je n'en suis pas encore au stade du visa, je suis dans l'attente du renouvellement de mon passeport. Je vais prendre un visa tourisme 6 mois multiples entrées.
N'oublie pas "l'assurance voyage" obligatoire dans la demande de visa, environ 200€ pour un séjour de 6 mois, j'ai pu l'obtenir pour 46 € (inclus annulation vol) par l'intermédiaire de mon voyagiste...Je te donnerai le tuyau par mail si tu n'as pas encore fait ta réservation d'avion.
Pour ce qui est de ton logement 2000 rmb, cela me semble très correct, mais à défaut de précisions, surface, qualité d'équipements (clim...) etc.je ne peux pas me prononcer...
Attention toutefois, les agences ou les propriétaires (investisseurs) n'aiment pas louer pour des contrats inférieurs à 1 an.
Concernant l'appart', c'est négociable, lors de mes stages j'en louais pour des courtes durées (3-4 mois). Après j'attendrai d'être sur place pour visiter, j'ai autrefois habité dans un quartier "exotique" et j'ai quelques anecdotes à ce sujet.
