Hi there, We’re planning to cross the land border between Costa Rica and Panama along the Pacific coast. Has anyone got any info? I’m not finding much online. From which city in Costa Rica can we catch a bus? Thanks in advance.

Hi there!

You can go through the Paso Canoas border crossing—seems like the easiest option to me. We took a Tracopa bus straight from San Jose. From what I remember, it was super long, like 8 or 9 hours, but it’s doable!

Have a great trip!

Hi Margaux,

As the previous poster mentioned, Paso Canoas is the right place to cross. Here are a few extra details I can share: you’ll need about 7h30 to reach your destination; allow up to 1h30 max for border formalities. From San José, there are four daily departures (5:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:30 PM, and 4:30 PM), all operated by Tracopa. To avoid too many hours on the bus, I’d recommend planning your trip so you end near the Panamanian border—if you board in San Isidro del General, for example, you’ll only have about 4h30 left.
