J'ai à peu près 2656565566852 questions mais je vais deja vous expliquer mon "point de vue" et vous me direz si ca va coller ou coincer...
- alors déjà la date et la durée: à priori ce sera décembre 2013 (ma copine est vendeuse et ne peut pas partir pendant les soldes...) et pendant 3 semaines (durée qui me semble correcte pour visiter les principaux spots et finir par 5 ou 6 jours dans un hotel, sur une ile du sud 😎 )
- comme tout bon touriste de base, j'ai acheté le guide lonely planet, mais en lisant les forums si j'ai bien compris je vais me retrouver aux memes endroits que les 26 milliards de personnes qui ont ce guide...
- j'ai sondé les sites des compagnies aériennes et le billet sera à 700€ à peu pres... Chero, mais je prefere donner 700 et voyager en A380 avec Emirates que donner 600 et voler dans un truc moyen.
-concernant les correspondances internes (bus, train, avion??), est ce qu il faut acheter les billets à l'avance??
-il y a des débats sur la taille du sac à dos à choisir sur ce forum et je devrais y trouver mon bonheur... meme si je pars avec madame et que ca va etre compliqué pour elle...🤪

Voila deja une toute petite partie des questions que je me pose, et jevous remercie par avance de vos interventions ou réponses!!
Puisque tu t'es permis de lever le voile sur une petite partie de la vie privée de ta copine Fanny, peux-tu m'expliquer, qu'en tant que vendeuse, celle-ci peut partir en vacances en décembre (période très forte en vente, puisque Noël). Pour les soldes, en janvier, OK, mais à Noël? Es-tu sûr de ta période?
Pour les guesthouses, où que tu te pauses, il vaut mieux réserver les 1ères nuits.
Et puisque tu pars sac à dos, improvise pour les réservations de train, d'avion, suivant vos envies.
Pour ton séjour, compte en moyenne 650 bths pour une guesthouse, 3 plats par personne à 110 bths, plus les en-cas, 90 bths par jour et pers (boisson, petite friandise, etc..) les transports difficilement chiffrables, tout dépend si sédentaires ou adeptes de la bougeotte.

Non pour les bus, oui pour les avions (mais il y a des compagnies lowcost où qlq jours à l'avance peuvent suffir.) Pour les trains je ne sais pas. Méfie-toi si tu voyages à la période de Noël, ça va être la haute saison donc ces jours-là peut-être que les prix augmentent et les disponibilités diminuent.

Ma suggestion : nous on avait chacun un sac à dos d'une cinquantaine de litres. Suffisant pour le voyage. par contre à la fin mme va surement acheter plein de vêtements à Bangkok, alors tu rachètes sur place une petite/grosse valise pour mettre tout dedans pour le retour. ce qui compte pour le vol, ce n'est pas le nombre de bagages mais le poids.

A priori non si vous êtes un peu flexibles, SAUF si vous allez à la saison de Noël.

Ma copine et moi venons de passer 8 semaines en Thaïlande, soit du 12 décembre au 1er février. Nous avions 3 guides: le Routard, le Lonely, et le National Geographic. Voici donc quelques commentaires personels qui vous aideront peut-être dans votre préparation...
1. La période la plus achalandée est du 15 déc au 15 janv. Même si plusieurs nous avaient affirmé qu'il était aisé de trouver du logement de dernière minute un peu partout: C'est FAUX!!! Nous nous sommes frappés le nez à la porte de nombreux guesthouses! Du coup, nous avons perdu une journée complète à faire des réservations sur le web pour la suite du voyage! Et nous avons essuyé de nombreux refus, faute de place. Alors oui, si vous trouvez des endroits sympas, réservez d'avance, pour ne pas être déçus!
Ensuite, les prix affichés dans les guides étaient rarement exacts: il fallait souvent compter une ou plusieurs centaines de baths de plus. Il y a 3 prix en Thaïlande: un pour la "low season", un pour la "high season" et un dernier pour la "peak season", laquelle s'étale justement du 15 déc au 15 janv...
2. Eh oui, il y a des touristes partout: non mais vraiment partout, c'est incroyable! Surtout si vous achetez des forfaits auprès de tour opérateur. Ces excursions, sensass en théorie, perdent grandement de leur magie lorsque la belle plage quasi vierge promise sur la photo fourmille en réalité de centaines de touristes comme vous! Pour en profiter réelement, il faut chercher, discuter avec les locaux, négocier... Plus de troubles, mais ça en vaut la peine! Essayez de visiter des lieux prisés, très tôt le matin (avant 10h00), ou encore en fin d'après-midi (après 15-16h00), vous éviterez ainsi la grosse masse touristique. De plus, en vous arrangeant par vous-mêmes, vous aurez de bien meilleurs prix!
Sachez toutefois que le nord est considérablement moins touristique que le sud. Mais même un petit village comme Pai prend des allures de métropole entre Noël et le jour de l'an. Anecdote: Nous sommes restés pris 2 jours à Pai puiqu'il était impossible d'avoir de la place dans les bus gouvernementaux et dans les minis-vans, et qu'il n'y avait plus aucun véhicule locatif de disponible avant 2 jours!
3. Pour le budget: les guesthouses de base proposent souvent du logement tournant autour de 600 à 800 baths la nuit pour la chambre double avec AC et salle de bain privée. En réservant via Agoda, les prix sont gonflés... mais la réservation est plus certaine qu'un simple "mail" de confirmation (vécu) pendant cette période où je le répète: c'est plein partout!!!
Pour les restos, il est encore possible de manger pour quelques dizaines de baths seulement, surtout dans la rue, où d'ailleurs se trouve la meilleure bouffe! En salle, surtout lorsqu'on vous propose des menus occidentaux, les prix grimpent vite. Il est facile de payer 600-800 baths pour un repas à deux, voire même 1000 à l'occasion si vous vous lancez dans les fruits de mer et les viandes spécialisées. Le petit-déjeuner américain type tourne autour de 120 baths.
Nous avons vécu assez modestement pendant notre séjour, avec un budget de 120$ canadien par jour pour 2 pour le logement, la nourriture, les activités et le transport. Certes, nous avons grandement bougé (Bangkok-Kho Chang-Surin-Pakchong-Lopburi-Chiang Mai-Pai-Mae Hong Son-Ban Pa Teak-Kho Pa Ngan-Kho Tao-Kho Muk-Kho Phi Phi-Ao Nang-Kho Lak-Phang Nga-Hua Hin-Damnoen Saduak-Bangkok), et étant donné la période hautement achalandée, nous avons parfois dû troquer le bus régulier pour le VIP, le train pour l'avion, et la chambre de base pour celle deluxe, faute de disponibilité.
Sur ce, bonne préparation, et si vous avez des questions, n'hésitez pas!😉

Pour les iles du sud en general et Phuket en particulier, en fevrier il fait tres beau, tres chaud tres sec, et tout est archi blinde.
Je crois que vous avez raison, mi-novembre à mi-décembre ce serait vraiment un bon compromis...

Donc je résume à peu près ce que j'ai retenu de vos réponses:
-réserver les billets d'avion intérieurs à l'avance
-le gros des guest aussi, pour etre sur, mais garder un peu de flexibilité si on tombe sur un spot ou on a envie de rester un peu...
- pour la nourriture, on peut s'en sortir très bien en s'écartant un peu des sentiers battus
Je me permets de vous redemander: quelle ile du sud choisir pour passer 5-6 jours à la playaaaaa en fin de séjour???

Pour ma part, j'ai adoré Tanote Bay à Kho Tao et Thansadet Beach à Kho Phangan. Les deux sites se trouvent dans de petites baies comprenant quelques resorts seulement. Donc c'est calme, contrairement à certains endroits comme Sairee Beach où la plage est envahie par les bars, restos et hôtels: parfait pour faire la fête, mais pas pour dormir! Si vous aimer la plongée, Kho Tao est l'endroit le moins cher au monde pour en faire: il est possible de plonger pour 800-900 baths/la plongée. Également, le plus beau snorkelling que j'ai fait a été à Tanote Bay, gratuit en plus, à quelques mètres de la plage! Cette dernière est d'ailleurs magnifique et propre, et l'eau parfaitement claire. Nous avons dormi au Diamond Cottage (très bien comme bungalow, mais je conseille d'aller manger aux hôtels voisins😉)
Quant à Thansadet Beach: belle plage, encore une fois calme et reposant. En passant, le chemin pour se rendre est un véritable calvaire, et peut être impraticable en saison des pluies. Nous avons logé au Mai Pen Rai, dans un bungalow juché sur les rochers, d'où nous voyions et entendions l'océan... Idéal pour relaxer, une Chang bien froide à nos côtés😛. Pas de snorkelling à cet endroit par contre! Plage encore une fois propre, mais le sable n'est pas aussi fin qu'à Kho Tao. Il y avait un peu de vagues, donc l'eau était embrouillée.
PS: si vous aimer vraiment la plonger, oubliez Kho Tao, et gardez votre argent pour les îles Similan!

J'ai donc finalement acheté mes billets pour BKK pour le 02 février 2014. (750€ en direct CDG ==> BKK avec THAI AIRWAYS)
Je pense que c'est mieux de partir direct vers le nord, en de finir le séjour par 3 jours sur BKK (pour faire des achats et être sur place déjà le jour du départ)
Je suis toujours dans le doute quant à la réservation par avance des guesthouses et des vols et trains. J'entends les 2 versions:
- certains me disent "facile sur place, tout est bien fait etc"
- d'autres me disent qu'il vaut mieux réserver à l'avance parce que c'est blindé et qu'il ne reste que les hébergements haut de gamme et les places VIP dans les transports
Attention quand meme, pourquoi ne pas reserver 1 ou 2 nuits minimum, si tu sais ou tu vas bien sur, ensuite tu pourras toujours tater le terrain... Cette annee, le debut fevrier a ete TRES charge...Je pense que dans le nord c'est identique..

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.

For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?
