début octobre je pars faire une boucle maroc - mauritanie - mali - sénégal A-R avec mon KZJ95.
je préfèrerais ne pas faire le trajet par le sénégal jusqu'à la frontière malienne (Kidira) mais plutôt passer par la mauritanie.
problème !!! on passe normalement par la route Ayoun el Atrous > Nioro du sahel mais ce trajet est dans la zone rouge et donc fortement déconseillé.
ma question : est-il toujours possible de passer par la route de Nouakchott à Kiffa puis la piste Kiffa > Kankossa > Kayes ??? si oui quel est le niveau de sécurité et quel est l'état de la piste Kankossa > Kayes si quelqu'un l'a fait dernièrement.

Pour être franc, je te déconseillerais le Mali et le Sénégal actuellement, la tension est réelle, le Mali n'est plus aussi sécurisé qu'avant.
Attention pour le Sénégal, il te faut un carnet ATA, et tu devras passer par Dakar pour régulariser ta situation, des formalités donc des problèmes en perspective.
Les Mauritaniens de leur côté font le maximum pour assurer la sécurité des touristes, mais le risque perdure. Cette portion de route, la route de l'espoir, est quasiment impossible à sécuriser.
Personnellement, mon prochain voyage africain se fera au Togo ou au Bénin, ces pays restent sûrs et intéressants à visiter, mais pour combien de temps ....

Nous l'avons fait en descendant en 2008 et A/R en 2011
et des amis en avril dans le sens Kiffa/Kayes.
Rien n'a changé en 4 ans!!
Il y a environ 300 km qui se font en 1jour + une bonne 1/2 journée et + selon le jardinage.
Première chose à faire dés que tu attaques cette piste "dégonfler"!!!
C'est une piste bien marquée jusqu'à Kankossa mais avec des passages de sable avant.
Après c'est un peu + de sable que de piste mais très agréable.
Et à la fin c'est la fôret de Baobab(piste de terre)
Il est difficile en sortant des villages de retrouver LA BONNE piste !!!
Et quand on demande la direction, on vous indique le + court,
mais au bout de quelques minutes c'est un chemin de Randonnée!!!

Entre kankossa et Kayes il y a au moins 3 pistes parallèles pour les Véhicules...
Villages à ne pas rater et points GSP pour les formalités administratives :
A KAYES, Police N14 26.089 W11 25.671, assureur se déplace si besoin (super bien) et peu changer € en CFA.
Mais maintenant il y a un DAB sur la petite place au bout du pont à droite.
KAYES, Douane N14 27.127 W11 27.812 pour laisser-passer voiture.
Si tu veux dormir à Kayes, la rue à côté de la douane vers le Sénégal, à 300m il y a
l'Hôtel Kamankole **** N14 27.464 W11 27.918
accepte les 4X4 dans le jardin. Sanitaires/douches GRAND LUXE à la piscine et cuisine super bonne, surtout les brochettes de Capitaine et poulet yassa,
servie sous la paillote. Et wifi gratos dans le hall.
Pour la sécurité aucun souci; il faut vraiment chercher et te trouver dans ce coin désertique avec une multitude de pistes...
Pour conclure piste très agréable sans difficultées, d'ailleurs nous ne passerons plus que par là pour descendre au Mali ou Même + loin.

merci de ta réponse. pour info je suis descendu à dakar en mai 2011 en passant quelques jours au banc d'arguin, magnifique, grâce un guide très sympa dont j'ai gardé les coordonnées, pas de problèmes rencontrés. beaucoup de barages en mauritanie et avec les fiches préparées on passait en 2 minutes. j'ai bien évidemment un carnet ATA, je suis passé par le barrage de diama sans soucis, il était 13h et les douaniers, en pause, nous ont invité à partager leur repas, sympa ! régularisation à dakar sans problèmes moyennant de la patience et quelques CFA !

Perso nous avons payé 10 000 UM pour 2 mois 2 entrées soit 26€37 par personnes.
Pour 3 mois je pense que Papy te dit les bon chiffres.
Il faut savoir que 1€ = 376.17 UM actuellement.
Pour info, Obligatoire à la frontière Mauritanienne:
L'assurance voiture pour la Mauritanie 10 jrs = 4000 UM(10€55) peut-être tu peux avoir pour moins de jrs.
Un passe avant : 10€ ou 4000 UM
Et selon l'humeur du jour une taxe de parking de 10 DH!!!! Et avec un papier!!!*
Le visas Mauritanien n'est toujours pas délivré à la frontière.
A la frontière Malienne:
Douanne : passe avant: 5000CFA il double le soir, les WE, fêtes et fériés du Mali il faut connaitre!!!

merci pour ces infos , nous sommes passés par cette piste en remontant en mars de cette année et on aimerait faire la variante par le bord du fleuve en quitant la route avant ALEG, avez vous des tuyaux sur cette belle piste
Nous sommes descendu en 2011 par kayes/Kiffa mais avons pris les visas à Nouakchott,
tous les 4X4treux que nous avons rencontrés aussi.
Sur cette piste personne ne délivre de visas et il faut l'avoir avant Kayes.
En remontant en mars avons fait
De KAYES>>>
AOUROU (formalités) puis bifurquer à gauche à la sortie du village.
Direction MELGUE la frontière Mauritanienne.
Comme toujours il y a plusieurs pistes et nous n'avions pas de traces, mais de bonnes cartes.
De ce côté il n'y a pas grand monde qui parle français.
MELGUE L'instituteur et le chef de la gendarmerie nous ont donné les noms des villages qu'il fallait traverser, pour rejoindre SELIBABY.
Entre KAYES/SELIBABY 185 km, pas de gasoil,
de la piste avec beaucoup d'oued mais sec.
SELIBABY =police, douane et assurance, 2h au total, pas de banques,
pour le change c'est Kaïdi.
SELIBABY/KAÏDI 235 km
C'est 1/4 travaux, 1/4 tôle ondulée, 1/4 bonne piste, 1/4 goudron tous ça mélangé!!!
Il y a pas mal de contrôles mais ils sont surpris de voir des touristes et demandent des fiches, mais aussi
"des ordres de missions" ou "des photos" que nous n'avons pas donné...
Après c'est le goudron jusqu'à BOGUE.
Il n'y a pas de difficultés.
Les pistes sont biens tracées et les petits endroits de sable seraient 1 ou 2 oueds.
Nous n'avons pas du tout sorti les plaques de AOUROU à SELIBABY.
En 02/2010, nous avons fait le bord du fleuve côté MAURITANIE, de
BOGUE à ROSSO, c'est assez décevant il n'y a pas de pistes au bord du fleuve.
C'est des marais et des jardins maraichers.
En allant vers SELIBABY c'est pareil avec des petits morceaux de piste,
mais ne l'avons pas fait.
Par contre faire M'BOUT/KANKOSSA par "la PASSE de SOUFA",
C'est mieux car par là le goudron n'est pas encore arrivé.

de retour après un périple de 9400km réalisé en octobre/nov 2011, Maroc > Mauritanie > Mali > Sénégal. on a hésité un moment avant de se décider de faire Nouakchott > Kiffa par la route de l'espoir plutôt que de passer par le Sénégal pour des raisons de sécurité mais l'envie de la découverte a été la plus forte !!! aucuns soucis, rien à signaler...on a pu ensuite faire la fameuse piste Kiffa > Kayes (faite en 2 jours) qui est vraiment splendide, bivouac au milieu des baobabs !!! c'est clair, on a croisé personne !!! ensuite on est allé aux chutes de Gouina pour un bivouac de 2 jours, seuls au monde (les 5ème étrangers à visiter le coin depuis janvier d'après le pêcheur du coin) !!! il était prévu d'aller ensuite sur Mopti mais mon copilote a attrapé une gastro "malienne" (passage par les urgences de Kayes pour 2h de perfu !!!) ce qui nous a obligé à aller sur le Sénégal + tôt que prévu, dommage !!! voici quelques vidéos prises avec la caméra embarquée, sympa !!!

En 01/2011 nous étions 8 toubabs + des touristes Maliens
et au retour (depuis les monts Mandingue) 27/02 il y avait un peu de monde,

Pour l instant je fais le tour de la situation générale en Afrique, ce qui n´est pas évident !
Nous voulons nous arrêter dans des villages qui se restructurent, après avoir subit, guerres et maladies.
Approcher des assos comme "mother2mothrer" et portraitiser des gens , des assos qui plein d´espoir, arrivent a rétablir des situations dramatiques avec l´aide de médecins sans frontières ( par ex ) , et font du bien a l´environnement. On veut faire ressortir les beautés de tout ces gens de toutes les races qui s´accrochent a la vie, pour la redonner. De gens qui vivent en harmonie avec la nature, en harmonie avec la ville aussi...et qui on besoins d´un coup de main.

Hi there, we’ll be in Mozambique in early December 2026 and we’d like to travel from Vilanculos to Beira by car or bus to reach Beira airport. After that, we’re planning to visit Gorongosa National Park before flying back to France from Beira. We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

For those who’ve driven on Iceland’s gravel roads in their own or a rented Duster, could you tell me what tires were fitted on the vehicle?
Were they All Terrain tires or more "standard" ones like all-season tires, for example?
Follow-up question: if they were "standard" tires, did that cause any issues on the gravel roads and rough terrain?

I’m planning a trip to Iceland for next July-August, with a car and tent, and I’m wondering about booking campsites.
From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.
Does that give us the flexibility to stay outside a campsite for a night here and there?

I’m planning a road trip in the Middle Atlas, starting and ending in Fez and heading down to the south of Midelt, the Assoul Massif.... We’ll be traveling with two small 4x4s.
I’m looking for detailed maps of this region that include small roads and tracks.
Last year, we had a fantastic road trip in the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas using Erfahren maps, but unfortunately, they don’t cover the area we’re interested in this year.

We’re planning a 13-day family road trip in Morocco this July, with six people in a Toyota Prado 4x4 (renting in Marrakech).
We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.
Here’s the planned route (in this order):
Marrakech

→ Draa Valley
→ Zagora
→ Erg Chegaga
→ Lake Iriki
→ Foum Zguid
→ Tata
→ Tafraoute
→ Aït Mansour

→ Mirleft
→ Taroudant

Our goal:
Atlas Mountains + desert + dunes + plateaus + valleys + a bit of coastline.
We’ll cover about 1,700 km in total.
We’re planning:
Bivouacking in the Chegaga/Iriki area
Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

We’re struggling a bit with timing and choosing activities for the part of the trip between Sesriem and Brandberg.
Day 1: Sesriem to Mirabib
Day 2: Mirabib to Swakopmund – visit Swakopmund, overnight in Swakopmund
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

My son and I are heading to Georgia this summer to explore the High Caucasus (Svaneti, Kazbek, and Tusheti regions). For this, we’re planning to rent a 4x4.
However, the rental agencies we’ve found prohibit driving on the tracks to Omalo (Tusheti) and/or Ushguli (Svaneti).
Do you know of any agencies in Tbilisi (local and reliable) that allow rented 4x4s to drive on these tracks? If so, which ones?

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. Should I cover both sectors or just focus on the northern region?
For the parks along the Zambezi River, is it better to visit Mana Pools on the Zimbabwe side or Lower Zambezi on the Zambia side?

I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;)
So, no vans—at least not from the rental companies I’ve seen so far.
While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals?
Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.
I’m traveling through Argentina and Chile (as well as Paraguay and Uruguay) with a 2019 Toyota Hilux Euro 6. Could anyone tell me if the local diesel is suitable for its engine, or if I need to take any special precautions (like adding an additive, for example) for these countries?

My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.
We’d like to stay in a private reserve on nights 4 and 5.
We’re not sure which one or how to get into a private reserve. Do we need to exit Kruger Park?
On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).

When I arrive in Divundu, I’d like to head straight to the Khwai area early in the morning to one of the campsites in the Khwai Development Trust. Is the drive doable with a good 4x4 in a day?
We’ll spend 2 nights in Khwai, then 2 or maybe 3 nights in the Moremi area (Third Bridge/Xakanaxa/Mboma) before heading back to Maun to wrap up our journey.
Is that too much time to spend in each place?
We’d also like to do one or two boat excursions in the delta. Any suggestions for the best options and operators?

I’m planning to explore the western part of Madagascar from May 1st to 5th, specifically to visit the Tsingy. I’ve heard different versions about the road conditions and access to the Tsingy during this time, so I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually made this trip during this time of year.
Have you traveled from Morondava → Tsingy between May 1st and 5th?
Was the journey doable and safe?
Did you have access to the Grands Tsingy, or just the Petits Tsingy?
