J'avais envisagé il y a deux ans de me rendre au Mali à moto, en passant par Nioro du Sahel, Bamako. J'avais du renoncer à ce voyage suite au événements qu'on connait.
J'aimerais savoir si ce voyage est de nouveau envisageable côté sécurité. Je pense à la route de l'espoir et le Mali également, je n'irai pas au delà de Ségou.

je suis déjà descendu au Burkina en voiture.en m'inspirant du blog de papy et mamy.
En ce moment iln’y a pas de problèmes à se promener en moto dans le sud et le centre (Kayes, Koulikoro, Segou, Mopti, les hôtels sont vides et quelques touristes font des brèvesapparitions. C’est vraiment dommage car le malien sont toujours aussi gentil etprêts à aider !
Donc pour repondre a ta question...pas de problemes pour les balades a moto!
Moi je me baladeen jackarta (les mobylettes chinoises a 500 euros) pour la ville et un peu audela et le seul problème c’est que la nuit on risque de se la faire piquer car sansplaques elle est très facile à revendre ! Sinon pas de problèmes à trouverdes moto et visiter le pays !

Bonsoir Jean, je me trouve actuellement à Mopti pour une durée de 9 mois. Je suis arrivé depuis environ 2 semaines au Mali et je me suis arrêté chez un ami piroguier à Ségou. Tu peux y aller quand bon te semble. A aucun moment je ne me suis trouvé en insécurité, na par les djihadistes, ni par Ebola.😉
Nous sommes actuellement en 2015, soit 2 ans après votre message.
Je peux vous assurer qu'il vaut mieux éviter encore un tel voyage car des attaques sporadiques sont souvent d'actualité vers le centre du mali
Mali ne est pas, et n'a jamais été, l'europe (securite publique). Il y a eu toujour "coupeurs des routes", le manque de sécurité publique dans un jeune pays a seulement 50 années, manque de ressources dans les forces de sécurité, etc.
Mais même dans les pires moments des années 2011-2013 nous avons été en mesure de voyager et de vivre en paix au sud du fleuve Niger, depis la frontière sénégalaise jus qu'au désert du Gourma, la falaise de Bandiagara et toutes les zones frontalières du Burkina Faso. ¡Toujour loin de l'Azawad...!.
Quels problèmes avez-vous eu à Bamako?. Un atentat terroriste?.

Donc l'Espagne est plus dangereuse que le Mali qui pourtant n'a jamais été l'Europe ? Je pense qu'en tant que toubabou et simplement statistiquement, on est plus facilement une cible en ces temps incertains dans la zone sahélienne. Un poil plus qu'en tant que touriste ou résident en Espagne.

Ben oui, un attentat dans une rue fréquentée, effectivement. Cela compte un poil quand on se questionne pour aller quelque part et qu'on prend en compte la question de la sécu.

C'est un peu restrictif comme carte des zones les plus sécures au Mali. La partie entre Nioro et Didieni est encore plus que limite niveau sécurité quant bien même de nouveau empruntée par des gens qui viennent de Mauritanie (une attaque contre la base de Nampala et apparemment de nouveaux camps "inconnus" dans la foret du Wagadou). La zone de Niono et au delà est très dangereuse. L'enlèvement au Burkina et celui d'Hombori, il y a mantenant tyrès longtemps, montre que la zone entre Niger/Mali/Burkina reste insécure tout comme la zone "jumelle" entre Mali et Mauritanie. Des frontières qui ne gênent pas les djihadistes et les arrangent même largement.
On peut voyager au Mali mais essentiellement dans la partie sud et sud-est tout en prenant des précautions comme éviter d'informer sur la suite de son périple, être relativement mobile, éviter les coins à toubabou plus susceptibles d'être la cible d'attentat...
Après dire qu'on ne sent pas en insécurité n'a pas grand sens. L'insécurité n'a pas d'odeur et ne prévient pas comme dans les films d'horreur. 5 minutes avant, on se "sentait" en sécurité... Juste une question d'attitude, de prévention et d'attention. Et de malchance aussi bien entendu. Contre laquelle on ne peut malheureusement pas grand chose.

avant de partir, j'ai lu des témoignages de gens qui en revenaient, je me suis decidée après y avoir beaucoup réfléchi.
je suis restée très au sud. je n'ai pas eu de mal à aller dans les zones sans blancs : de touristes j'en ai pas vu un en Mauritanie, (si, un, Baroud35 , le hasard d'une auberge à Nouakchott) au Mali, ni au Burkina, et les endroits à expats ma foi, je ne cherchais pas vraiment ces contacts là, (je n'étais pas là-bas pour ça) j'étais assez mobile car c'était un road-trip.
Après je suis bien consciente que le risque 0, hélas, n’existe pas.
ce qui en parti m'a decidée, c'est l'hysterie médiatique en France (septembre dernier): ça dépassait tout. c'était au delà de l'information, ça mélangeait tous les risques. je me suis dit que je ne voulais pas y ceder, et que j'allais dissocier tout cela, examiner les choses un peu plus calmement, et ne pas céder à la peur qu'on nous déversait à haute dose dans le cerveau.

les Maliens puisent leur confiance en soi d'une période beaucoup plus longue, à savoir de ces siècles lorsque le pays était connu pour sa grandeur, sa richesse, son autorité (l'indigence dans le Sahel est un phénomène plutôt récent, déclenchée par les sécheresses des années 1970, et de leurs retombées souffre le pays jusqu'ici) : d'abord l'Empire du Mali médiéval. Au 13ème et 14ème siècle, il comprenait un territoire aussi grand que l'Europe occidentale. Son successeur au 15ème et 16ème siècle, l'Empire Sonraï, nommé d'après ce groupe ethnique qui est même aujourd'hui le plus grand dans le nord. L'Empire Sonraï avait une administration fixée par écrit, une fiscalité, une armée de métier. Tous les deux Empires étaient multiethniques et – selon le critère douteux de la couleur de peau – en majorité noirs. Ainsi est le Mali même aujourd'hui, tant au sud qu'au nord.
Le Mali peut regarder sur une étaticité* séculaire, et donc sur quelque chose qu'on dénie à l'Afrique jusqu'ici : une histoire formée bien avant l'époque coloniale. Les Maliens se rendent compte de cela, ils vivent avec leur histoire et en concluent une fierté nationale qui ne se mésure pas au PNB actuel.
En 1960, le Mali devient indépendant et compte donc parmi ces pays que nous qualifions de bon gré et avec morgue de "jeunes nations". Mais au Mali, on écoute en revanche les gens souvent dire : "Nous sommes une vieille nation". Un orgueil, une surestimation de soi ?! Pas du tout. Certes, la population est démographiquement très jeune, 65% ont moins de 25 ans, et beaucoup d'eux ne sont jamais allés à l'école pour apprendre l'histoire de leur pays. Néanmoins, il y a un – comment le dire ? – un sentiment de la propre historicité transmis de génération en génération, c.à.d. d'une autre manière que par une éducation formelle. Et, de plus, il existe chez eux une idée de "nation" qui approuve bien plus de hétérogénéité que la tradition de pensée européenne ...

¡Bon...!: Je vois que nous ne serons pas d'accord dans cette affaire. Je crois qu'il est recommandé d'aller visiter le Malí ( au sud de Mopti et la falaise de Bandiagara grandes lignes générales... ), je pense que la route entre la Mauritanie et le Mali par la route Ayoum l'Atrouss à Bamako en convoi est conseillé, possible et practique pour aller par la route depuis l'Europe, je crois que Bamako es une ville africaine sure malgré avoir subi une attaque terroriste, dans la Rép. Du Mali ont n'a jamais bénéficié d'une bonne sécurité de style européen, etc., etc., etc... Je reste avec les souvenirs et les images de mon dernier voyage du dernier janvier . Vous avez quelques unes ici-bas . Je espère que ils vous plaisen.

L'axe touristique de toujour "Bamako - Segou - Djenne - Mopti - falaise de Bandigara ( Sevaré / Bandagra / Sanga )" est bien possible et recomendable. Adjouter la route en venant de l'Europe depuis la Mauritanie par "Ayoum el Atrous - Nioro - Diema - Bamako ( convoi officiel... )"... ¡même s`il est toujours conseillé la route depuis le Senegal, "Koudougou - Kenieba - Kita - Bamako"...!....
La-bas attendent les Dogon. Sure. Comme pour les trente ou quarante dernières années. Ils ont besoin de beaucoup d'ONG, aide humanitaire, plans de développement, etc., etc, etc., bien sure. Mais aussi vos visites personnelles, vous voir personnellement, voir vos voitures et vos equipements de voyage, vos femmes et enfants Blancs, comment vous vivrez et voyez la vie... (ejem...)

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Has anyone here already ridden it?
Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.

Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20)

Can we take our helmets with us in the cabin, or should we pack them in the checked luggage surrounded by clothes to avoid damage?
