Nous partons (couple) en Thailande pour la première fois pendant 2 semaines fin janvier. Nous souhaitons la 2ème semaine de ce séjour passer quelques nuits sur une ile. La première semaine sera consacré à Bangkok et au Nord
Après des heures de lecture sur ce forum, je vous sollicite pour nous conseiller sur le choix de l'île car il y a beaucoup d'offres et j'ai lu tellement de commentaires et d'avis (qui parfois peuvent être contradictoires), pris quelques notes, mais sans arriver à isoler une destination
Nos critères sont une belle plage, pas trop de touristes, des restaurants authentiques de cuisine locale (fruits de mers) pour varier les repas. L'objectif est la baignade, le farniente et le calme. Je sais que Janvier n'est la période la plus propice à cela, mais il s'agit de congés plus ou moins imposés.
Notre budget peut aller jusqu'à 3000 - 3500 THB la nuit. On aimerait un bungalow ou une chambre les pieds dans l'eau et la présence d'un piscine

L'accès semble relativement aisé avec l'avion jusqu'à Krabi, puis ensuite le bus et le bateau. Mais quid d'une plage/endroit pas bondé fin janvier ? Est-ce qu'il sera possible de faire l'excursion à la baie de Phang Nga depuis Ko Lanta ? Selon vous, y-a t'il autre chose qui correspondrait mieux à nos critères par rapport à ce que vous avez déjà visité ?
Sinon plus proche de Bangkok, est-ce que Ko Samet peut faire l'affaire en semaine ?
Je suppose que vu la période, je dois tout booker (avion + hôtel) à l'avance pour les îles. Mais pensez-vous que cela est également nécessaire pour les visites dans le nord ?
Lanta est parfait pour papillonner tranquillement quelques jours sur une île. Et si tu veux être tranquille va vers le sud de l’île où tu trouveras des hôtels à 3000 baths sur classe et sur des plages désertes... Klong Nin ou Klong Khong sont super mais il y a encore un peu de monde... Le sud est désert, même en haute saison...

Pourquoi pas propice? C'est une très bonne période pour le temps même si c'est en pleine haute saison.

Depuis l'aéroport de Krabi pas besoin de prendre un bus puis un bateau, il sera plus simple de prendre un minibus ou un taxi pour aller sur Lanta. Par contre je ne pense pas que vous pourrez visiter la baie de Phang Nga depuis Koh Lanta. Les plages de Lanta ne sont jamais bondées, même en haute saison, et surtout pas dans le sud de l'île. Si vous voulez encore plus de tranquillité il y a aussi Koh Jum (entre Krabi et Lanta) ou Koh Kradan (plus au sud) par exemple.

Ko Lanta semble donc un bon choix. (On ne cherche pas l'île de Robinson, mais juste d'éviter de se retrouver dans les endroits bondés et autres usines de tours operateurs)
En taxi ? J'en déduis donc que l'île est reliée au continent. Je n'avais pas fait attention durant mes lectures sur le forum

Bibouns51, peut-être as-tu essayé certains des hôtels dont tu parles ? Si tu en gardes de bon souvenirs, as-tu des recommandations ? L'idéal serait d'être vraiment au bord de la plage avec vue sur la mer 🙂
il y a deux bacs à prendre pour rejoindre Koh Lanta, c'est ainsi qu'on rejoint l'île.
Si vous voulez faire la baie de Phang Nga, prenez un vol pour Phuket et enchaînez directement avec la visite. Depuis la-bas prenez un mini van jusqu'à lanta.

ce que j'aime bien c'est loger à Klong Dao, la plage la plus au nord, proche de Ban Saladan. Louer un scooter et aller sur les plages du sud...en changeant selon ses envies.
Je ne prends jamais d'hôtel avec petit déjeuner, car justement, d'aller dans des autres resorts et plages pour le prendre permet de découvrir pleins d'endroits sympas.
Pour cela j'aime bien loger au Lanta Sea House, mais il y a beaucoup d'autres hôtels sympas.

Désolé, si je réponds un peu tardivement (je passe pas mal de temps à lire d'autres topics) car il faut que je voie comment organiser durant le séjour Ko Lanta + la visite de la baie de Phang Nga sur la jonque qui part depuis Phuket j'ai vu. Je n'ai pas trouvé de site. Comment réserver cette jonque à l'avance ?
Quel serait le tarif en taxi ou autres moyen de transport pour le trajet de Phuket à Ko Lanta?
Sinon personne pour m'indiquer des noms de plage sympa pour la baignade dans le sud de Ko Lanta?
Je vais potasser à nouveau pour la planification de mon séjour entre le nord et le sud, mais finalement je me demande si ça ne fait beaucoup de trajets. Même en avion, ça prend un temps considérable même si le vol en lui-même est court.

l'année dernière nous avons fait un peu l'itinéraire que vous prévoyez : 1ere semaine BKK et le nord (Ayutthaya et Chiang Mai) puis nous avons pris un avions direct Chiang Mai - Phuket (air asia) et passé la dernière semaine sur Koh Lanta (ferry Phuket - Koh Lanta en passant par Koh Phi Phi).
Nous étions sur Klong Dao Beach au "Banana Garden home". La plage est super, à marée haute et marée basse. Il y a quelques bar et restaurants à proximité. On pouvait rejoindre baan saladan à pied.
Nous y étions entre le 6 et 12 février et il n'y avait vraiment pas grand monde sur la plage. Nous avons loué une voiture pour exploré un peu l'île et les plages du sud et nous avons fait une excursion en bateau "les 4 îles" (un classique que nous n'avons pas regretté... Bref, on a envie d'y retourner... et je vous le recommande.

Effectivement on peut pas dire qu'il y ait du monde ! En plus la plage est énorme. Lors de ton exploration des plages du sud de l'île ou lors de ton excursion, es tu tombée sur des plages plus petites, genre criques, avec la "forêt" toute proches. Bref quelque chose qui ressemblerait plus ou moins à ça 🙂 (photo trouvée dans Google images)
Ben oui comme le jeu du même nom, il n'y avait que la 1ère émission sur Lanta 😉 Et koh Kradan t'y a jamais été depuis Lanta, ni Koh Rok banane? Si non t'es une grosse burne 😛

Pour ajouter ma contribution : voilà le genre de plage que l'on a vu en prenant la voiture.
(Les 2 premières photos c'est sur Lanta, au sud, juste avant le parc national, les spécialistes pourront te donner le nom, et la dernière c'est la la plage sur laquelle on a mangé pendant notre excursion snorkelling... du coup je ne sais pas de quelle île il s'agissait)

Comment se protèger des sandfleas sur ces plages-là de type robinson, qui je suppose ne permettent pas de s'y prelasser en mode bronzette à même le sable.

Et bien, nous ne sommes pas du genre à rester des heures en mode bronzette sur une plage, mais je n'ai pas été plus embêtée par les bestioles en tous genre que sur les plages de Loire Atlantique ! En fait, je ne m'étais même pas posé la question jusqu'à maintenant !
En plus, quand nous y étions, il fait très chaud (plus chaud que d'habitude à cette période de l'année à priori!), et il était pour moi quasiment impossible de rester en plein soleil sur une serviette de plage (à cramer 🤪). Donc, plutôt balade à couvert dans la forêt le long de la plage et baignade !
Mais ce n'est qu'une expérience limitée... A voir ce que diront les experts 😉.
Effectivement, d'après les recherches effectuées sur le forum (et c'est également abordé dans le lonely planet je crois), c'est plutôt sur les îles de l'extrême est qu'il pourrait y avoir des sandflies

Bon, c'est toujours à propos de mon séjour de quelques nuits à Ko Lanta. J'avais en première idée d'aller tout au sud, mais la lecture de certains topics m'a fait changer d'avis. En effet, cela serait dommage d'être cantonné à la cuisine de l'hôtel 🙁 alors qu'il semble y avoir beaucoup de restaurants un peu plus au nord.
On cherche donc maintenant un hôtel plutôt au nord ou "au milieu". J'ai donc repéré 2 plages "intéressantes": Khlong Nin et Khlong Dao.
Khlong Nin semble plus calme tout en ayant le choix en termes de restaurants - restaurants auxquels on accède directement de la plage. Exact ?
Khlong Dao est un peu plus animé sans non plus blindé (même dans la 2ème quinzaine de janvier ?)

L'offre de logement est assez importante pour vous permettre de changer d'hotel si cel ne vous convient pas, essayer 2 plages pour être sur 🙂

Le Sea House est pratique pour la location de scooter, 150-200 baths par jour, et vous payez avec votre note d'hôtel. Pas besoin de faire de la paperasse.
Le personnel est très gentil. Le seul point "négatif " c'est le restaurant, très moyen. C'est pas trop grave car je n'y mange jamais, c'est plus sympa de partir à pied par la plage et d'aller manger ailleurs.

Petite question à propos des chambres: les superior rooms ont l'air d'être face à la mer sur leur descriptif, mais ce n'est pas non plus très clair. Tu saurais ou pas ?

On dirait que cet hôtel n'apparait pas sur les sites de booking. Tu as réservé directement sur leur site ? Leur site n'a pas l'air fiable, il mouline à mort en ce moment !
Je n'ai jamais réservé au Sea House et d'ailleurs je ne sais jamais à l'avance quand j'y serai et pour combien de temps...mais c'est sûr qu'en haute saison c'est préférable...à voir
A votre place je ferais un fax ou un coup de téléphone...et comme ça vous discuterez des prix sur place, bonne marge de discussion en restant quelques jours.
Il y a une petite maison face à la mer, idéale pour une famille. Sinon des bungalows pointus de deux étages.
Plus vous vous éloignez de la plage, et plus simples et bons marché seront les bungalows. Il faut aussi tenir compte du fait que si vous êtes proche de la plage, vous êtes à côté de la piscine...avec les petites têtes blondes suédoises déjà en pleine forme à 7h00 du matin.
Il y aussi des chambres dans la bâtisse principale. Mais jamais testé, je crois que Boumbastic y a séjourné.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.

My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.

• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home

I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
