Reviews on Silversea Spirit

Hi there,

I’m about to book a (potential) cruise with Silversea Spirit (South Africa, Madagascar, Seychelles...) sometime next year. Since I’ve never sailed with this company before and the reviews on Cruise Critic are pretty "mixed" (especially for this ship), I’d love to hear if anyone has already traveled with them or been on this boat.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Silversea markets itself as a luxury cruise line at an affordable price. Just keep in mind that we're talking about American-style luxury, so the standards are American.... It varies by ship—the Spirit is one of their oldest (but was renovated in 2018, I think). Have you checked out Azamara’s itineraries? If I had to choose, I’d go with Azamara over Silversea.

Have a great evening

Hello,

Silversea positions itself as a luxurious company, but at an affordable price. Keep in mind that we're talking about American-style luxury, so the criteria are American.... With them, it depends on the ships—the Spirit is one of the oldest (but renovated in 2018, I think). Have you taken a look at Azamara’s itineraries? If I had to choose, I’d go with Azamara over Silversea.

Have a good evening

Good evening Amelie,

Thank you for all this information!

Indeed, I read on Cruise Critic that this ship isn’t recent and was "extended" and renovated in 2018.

However, the itinerary is really interesting with a very attractive rate (6 150 € per person for a Junior Suite with a balcony, for 17 days with very few sea days...)

I’ve already looked at Azamara, but the itinerary isn’t the same, and the prices are higher for the same cabin category.

I know someone who’s already sailed with Azamara and was disappointed because they had quite a few issues during the cruise. I’d say it depends on the ship. So, it just goes to show that people don’t have the same criteria and/or expectations.

Best regards,

Alfred

You’ll always find disappointed people on any cruise line! In your case, go for it if the itinerary catches your eye—don’t hesitate. Silversea is still high-end, but with American standards for a mostly American clientele 😊. Forget French-style luxury, and don’t be surprised if you have to explain to the chef that you like your meat *really* rare 🥩

Hi there! I can’t give you feedback on that ship, but we did Azamara and I really liked it—except for the bathroom ;) :)

Hi Nathalie, Best wishes for the new year. Azamara doesn’t really appeal to me. On the other hand, we’ve decided to try Silversea next March. I’ll let you know how it goes when we’re back. In three weeks, we’ll be on Celebrity’s Equinox, departing from Miami.

Oh wow, you never stop, that’s awesome! 😄 You’re absolutely right! We’re doing a little tour in Asia… but we’ll settle for NCL 😅

You only live once. So we try to make the most of it while we can! Be sure to share a little trip report when you get back.

Hi there So, are you really doing this cruise and then NCL after?

Hello So you're really doing this cruise and then NCL?

Hi Nath,

Unfortunately, no—I’m only doing NCL, and I already explained the reasons in a PM. Maybe next time. What a shame!

I just read it, actually—I was thinking that between the trip you just took, the one I was imagining in March, and the one in April, you’re really going all out!
