Petite mésaventure, mais honnêtement, en 11 voyages en Thaïlande, c'est la première fois qu'on me la faîte.
Je book pour une semaine avec 10 % de réduction ( 450 x 7 nuits ) + ( 500 de déposit )
soit un total de 3650.
Bien, première nuit je dors avec ma copine, et sur le drap il y a deux petits trous, bref, je ne me plains pas, car celà arrive très souvent dans les hôtels bas & milieu de gamme.
Le lendemain, la femme de de ménage m'informe qu'il y a deux petits trous sur le drap, et que je dois payer 700 Baths ! 16 EUROS, la réceptionniste me dit la même chose, et j'explique bien comme il faut avec ma copine thaïe qu'on a jamais fait de trou dans les draps, mais eux non, avec un discours bien rodé ils insistent pour dire que les trous n'existaient pas avant qu'on s'installe dans la chambre..
Sur ce je refuse de payer, les 700 baths, sur ce ils appellent les flics ! ( flics normaux )
10 minutes après deux motos arrivent et parlent vaguement avec nous, et les employés de l'hôtel. Finalement, les flics nous suggèrent de laisser en prime le déposit de 500 baths.. au check-out voilà, j'ai envie de quitter l'hôtel, mais j'ai déjà payer pour 1 semaine !!
C'est vraiment odieux de voir des employés thaïes malhonnêtes.. c'est la première fois que celà m'arrive après avoir séjourné dans plus de 50 hôtels différents dans mes précédents voyages..
Info : le proprio apparemment est un anglais, dois-je le voir et râler auprès de lui ?
Ca me dégoûte.. les thaïs de Pattaya deviennent de plus en plus malhonnêtes, et n'hésite pas à appeller les flics en plus d'être de mauvaise foi !

A bannir absolument cet hôtel de Pattaya ( The Link ) à Soï Buakhaow, si vous ne souhaitez par rencontrer ma même mésaventure..

J'avoue, les deux troux n'était pas bien gros, c'était une légère déchirure..
De toute façon, la prochaine fois, à chaque check-in ou après chaque clean room, le moindre trou j'irais directement me plaindre, c'est dommage d'en arrivé là..
C'est dingue ce fossé entre thaï honnête et thaï malhonnête.. Ceux qui vont même pas regarder la chambre après la remise des clés, et ceux comme aujourd'hui qui sont prêts à tout pour te dérober quelques centaines de baths ! De toute façon je vais leur faire de la mauvaise pub de partout sur le net.. Je suis jai-dee, mais là, ils sont de mauvaise foi, ça me mets hors de moi 😊
Je suis en Thaïlande depuis début Mars, et c'est seulement depuis 2 jours que je suis à Pattaya durance ce voyage!
Le petit plus de Pattaya c'est qu'il y a tout à proximité, et il y a ce côté occidental.. qui me manquait un peu, un farang reste un farang, et une petite envie de me défouler..
Mais j'avoue, entre 2005 et 2011 Pattaya, la mentalité des nanas est devenue totalement - je me la pète - de moins en moins Girlfriend et c'est devenu totalement l'usine.. pognon & pognon, même les expat's, & patron de bar n'y vont plus tellement sur la Walking Street.
Et trouver une GF sur yaya, c'est presque un mythe, y'a encore plus de chance sur le Net!
Un expat' depuis 8 ans m'as dit qu'aurapavant à 25 ans, toutes les nanas me sauterait dessus en mode GF, maintenant, elles veulent le beau gosse et l'argent ! ça me fait rire ce jeu de séduction entre farang qui séduisent les tapins en boîte & qu'en plus ils doivent raquer à la fin. 😏

Sérieusement, tu crois rencontrer des gens sympathiques à Pattaya ....Tout est prétexte pour te faire raquer .Pattaya est un cloaque et ne peut t'apporter que des emmerdes.Tu nous dis que tu es déjà venu 11 fois en Thaïlande et tu continues à aller à Pattaya pour 7 jours...Triste constat car la Thailande a tant d'autres choses à offrir que cette station balnéaire décadente et mal fréquentée.Ta copine mérite mieux que ce merdier.J'adore ton indignation face à des thaïs malhonnêtes comme cela n'était pas possible.Les cons sont partout et de toute nationalité .

au moins ça t aura apris de ne plus jamais payer a l avance pour un guesthouse.... et ce genre de truc qu il font c est un peu comme les motorbike et jet ski scam...

A pattaya, je dirais que la plupart des endroits sont souvent mal entretenus voire sales et pas specialement bon marché, c'est pattaya...
Selina place, je cherchais un endroit clean, un peu au calme, c'est tenu par un couple suisse thai, la patronne prend grand soin de cet endroit, hyper clean, lit confortable (souvent cest l'horreur les guest house pour les lits), clim silencieuse, dans un soi calme avec une population essentiellement thai dans ce soi.
C'est pas loin du friendship supermarket pour ceux qui connaissent et du reste sinon.
Les bons endroits de ce genre sont rares à pattaya pour avoir sillonné le centre pour trouver un endroit convenable à prix raisonnable, bonne surprise que je voulais partager vu que je n'ai vu aucun post mentionner cet endroit.
En janvier, nous avions dormi au MAMAN MANSION, tenu par un couple de Chinois âgés. Propre, tout confort. Dans un soï qui donne sur la rue principale qui file vers la mer (Pattaya Klang Road encore appelée Central Road ).
650 bahts la nuit, clim, tv, frigo, wc, grande salle d'eau, petite loggia.
Puis, soï 16, le CLASSIC INN, pas le même genre mais tout à fait correct.
500 bahts la nuit, avec tv, frigo, clim, wc et douche, coffre et wifi à la réception.
Petits-déjeuners au TOP SUPER, un des carrefours de cette même Central Road.
Repas (entre autres) au LENG KEE, beaucoup de choix.
J'adore encore plus ta naïveté concernant les filles de Pattaya ...Elles sont là pour bosser avant tout , pour gagner de l'argent .Chercher une girlfriend à Pattaya, je veux bien pour un novice mais pour toi, tu crois encore au Père Noël.Ce qui me chagrine , c'est le fait que tu amènes ta copine dans un endroit pareil.Le coté romantique de Pattaya est pour le moins discutable.Au lieu de t'énerver pour 500 ou 700 baths, tu dois réfléchir un peu plus sur ce que tu fais.....Je suppose que tu claques parfois plus pour pas grand chose .

C'est quand même le seul lieu de Thaïlande où je me suis fait accoster en pleine rue à 16h par 2 ladybars éméchées dont 1 m'a mis la main aux fesses, alors que je ne lui avais rien laissé espérer: un homme qui marche tout seul en centre ville, à Pattaya, c'est une cible.
Chacun fait ce qu'il veut, de mon côté, je n'ai aucune envie d'être confondu avec un portefeuille libidineux sur pattes.
Je recommande d'ailleurs aux hommes pas intéressés par l'amour payant de ne jamais sortir à Pattaya sans leur femme, même pour aller poster son courrier!
Le reste des arguments sur le shopping, les hôpitaux, etc...n'est pas faux, mais il y a surtout une forte communauté francophone à Pattaya (la 1ere du pays, sauf erreur), dont une partie (je précise) vit indirectement (je précise) de la prostitution (soyons clairs): gogobar, restau, hôtel, société de transport, etc...
Apparemment, ça a l'air bien compliqué à assumer!
Le fait d'être avec ta copine leur laisse la possibilité d'appeler la police local. En cas de contentieux, ne laisse pas ta copine parler et contacte directement la police touristique, moins de risque de corruption...

L'histoire de cet hotel miteux , tes habitudes (Pattaya, Patpong ...) tes problemes d'érection alors que tu n'as 30 ans , tes démélés avec la police thaie, ton choix d'AIR france pour aller en Thailande....Bonjour le pédigré .Un conseil:il serait plus prudent de rester en France que d'accumuler les déboires outre mer.Finalement, tu rencontres beaucoup de cons mais tu dois un peu les chercher.....

C'est ce qui me semblait, ce n'est pas un hôtel mais un bar-restaurant avec quelques chambres on ne peut pas demander et attendre le service d'un hôtel dans ce genre d'endroit, pour ce prix il existe pas mal d'hôtels même avec piscine et mieux situé, il aurait fallu demander avant d'y aller.
Personnellement j'évite les hotels, les Guest house, les restaurants ou commerces tenus par des Falangs en Thaïlande.
En général tu paye plus chers et tu est moins bien servi.
PS:Je vais en Thaïlande depuis plus de quarante ans.
Si ton rêve se réalise, c'est qu'il n'était pas assez beau.
Je viens de me rendre compte que j'étais allé à cet hôtel, autrefois Thomson house, en 2007 lors de ma visite et ensuite Mayfair house, avant de devenir The link l'année passée, il faut suivre car les noms changent souvent à Pattaya....Mais le bon plan sera le Tune hôtel, lit de qualité et prix depuis 200 bahts environ si on a aucune option, car comme chez Easy jet tout sera payant, linge, frigo etc. Belle situation sur la 2ème rue proche du Central Festival, ouverture prévue début 2012.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).

I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

If you’ve had the experience—and since I’ve read (though it’s not very clear) that these two islands get quite crowded during this period—would you recommend booking accommodation well in advance, or is it easy to find something on the spot?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
