A vrai dire, j'y ai vécu jusqu'à mes 3 ans (j'ai 21 ans), et je suis rentré au moins 10 fois entre temps, mais je n'ai jamais fais attention aux lieux touristiques. Cette fois ci est différent car j'ai envie de montrer mon pays d'origine à ma copine. A part le mausaulé de HCM, les marionnettes aquatiques, l'espèce de temple/pagode dans le lac Ho Tay et Hoang Kiem et les restos sur piloti au lac Ho Tay, je ne connais rien d'autre. J'ai largement le temps avant ce voyage mais je préfère m'y prendre à l'avance pour ménager mon agenda ;)
Je pars également à Sapa, Hoi Han, Cat Ba et la Baie d'halong. Mais je suis un trip touristique mais si vous avez des conseils, ça ne peut être que meilleur 😇
Si tu souhaites venir a Sapa et/ou Bac Ha je serais tres heureux de te guider :)
J'y habite depuis 2005 et connais tres tres bien la region (je suis d'origine francaise.) Il y a beaucoup de choses a decouvrir et l'ideal serait que vous restiez 2 ou 3 jours a Sapa et 1 jour a Bac Ha.
A quelle epoque viendrait tu au Vietnam ? Evites le mois d'aout si tu viens a Sapa car c'est la saison des pluies.

Vous-avez oublier le principal! Pour combien de temps?
- Along Bay : TRES dur à faire seul à cause des 2 bateaux à prendre : continent-Cat Ba et Cat Ba-intérieur de la baie).. Il vaut mieux prendre un voyage bien organisé. Je conseille le 3 jours-2 nuits (dont une fantastique sur un bateau en plein milieu de la baie) de ODC Travel (la directrice, Ms Ta Chiang, parle bien le français).

ATTENTION/ NE PAS OUBLIER SON PASSEPORT. on ne monte pas sur un bateau sans le présenter d'abord à la Capitainerie (et l'ambre solaire: ça tape!).
- Hanoi : le 1er ou 2e jour, emmène ta copine au Musée Ethnologique, un des plus beaux au monde: comme ça, elle aura tout de suite une idée du pays
- Sapa : ben voilà, t'as le tuyau révé! 4 jours minimum. Je te signale que, depuis septembre, au lieu de prendre les trains de nuits nationaux infernaux à tout point de vue (dans celui que j'ai pris, il y avait un cadenas à la porte des toilettes, et personne ne savait où était la clé + impossibilité de passer dans un aures wagon!!!! En plus, j'avais réservé une couchette luxe et quand je suis arrivé: "Sorry, no more", je me suis tapé la couchette en alu avec le matelas épais comme une fourmi enceinte!), il y a tous les jours un train tout neuf d'une société privée, LIVITRANS (Réservez. 84-4-942-9919 www.livitrans.com). Un peu plus cher que le train normal mais au moins, t'auras des toilettes (+ bar-snack) et il tombera pas en panne en pleine nuit.
- A faire absolument : le sud de Hanoi :
Ithinéraire:
1) Hanoi-Mai Chau. Passer au moins une nuit dans le village de Bang Lac à la sortie de Mai Chau. Route par Hoa Binh et panorama de Bang Lac magnifique, logement dans maisons thaies (60 000 dongs la nuit) cuisine familiale (60 000 dongs par personne; j'ai passé 3 nuits à la maison No 6; impeccable! On est vraiment en plein pays traditionel!
2) Mai Chau-Tam Coc, la Baie d'Along terrestre. Une splendeur. 2 nuits à Tuan Duc, super sympa; patrons francophones adorables, chambres impec 10 dollars vue village/15 superbe vue montagnes et rivière + balcon pour pt dej: excellente cuisine familiale
3) Excursion Hoa Lu-Pagode des Parfums : Hoa Lu, la 1ère capitale du Vietam (cadre magnifique) et la Pagode, ballade très belle en bateau jusqu'à la montagne de la pagode et ensuite télé-cabine (tu peux aussi faire comme moi et te taper les 3000 marches!). Retour à Tam Coc
3) Tam Coc-Phat Diem-Hoa Lu-Hanoi, pour voir en route le pays des rizières, la cathédrale de Phat Diem, sublime (peu de touristes, et ils ont bien tort!)
Pour le tour ci-dessus, je te signale que j'ai fait un tour du nord-ouest en 15 jours (Hanoi-Sapa-Phong to-Lai Chau(Dien Bien-Sonla-Mai Chau-Tam Coc-Phat Diem-Hanoi. PHE-NO-ME-NAL! Jamais vu autant de splendeurs sauf dans le Sud Marocian!) en jeep avec un Viet super-sympa. C'est sa Jeep, alors ça coute moins cher. J'ai fait le tour ci-dessus sur le chemin du retour de Dien Bien-Sonla. Donne lui l'intinéraire, demande lui le prix, et marchande. Moi, j'ai payé 700 dollars pour 15 jours, mais je suis allé jusqu'à la frontiére chinoise et dans des coins impossibles; MINH : 84-4-871-53-68 Portable: 84-912-87-46-54; dis-lui que c'est Jacques qui t'a donné l'adresse; j'ai passé 15 jours à le traiter en égal au lieu de chauffeur (le secret pour ouvrir toutes les portes quand on voyage; les autres, ils mangent dans un coin et le chauffeur dans un autre, comme ça, le chauffeur, il fait juste le minimum requis pendant que moi, on me trimballe dans des endroits supers connus des seuls chauffeurs et quelques "aventuriers"!), alors il m'aime beaucoup, il te feras peut etre un prix d'ami!
Méfiez-vous de la vie, car les ratés ne vous rateront pas!
Merci pour vos informations, je pars du 23 juin au 26 juillet mais avant le vietnam je suis à hong kong pendant 2 jours et je reste à peu près 15 jours au nord du vietnam pour visiter la plupart des endroits cité au dessus, ensuite je pars à Nha Trang. J'ai de la famille un peu partout au vietnam et je parle relativement bien, sauf pour l'écriture.
Pour Sapa, et la baie d'halong je vais avec un tour opérateur donc ça ira, surtout que j'ai déjà l'addresse grâce à vous ;)
Mais ma copine aimerait bien que tu sois notre guide pour sapa, vu que tu parles français et que ça va surement lui manquer xD
Pour Cat Ba, ce sont mes parents qui m'ont dis d'y aller pour me reposer à la plage mais je ne sais pas vraiment si ça en vaut la peine.
J'ai aussi une question concernant le train Livitrans, la cabine VIP 2 lits, ce sont 1.090.000VND, ce sont pour une personne ou pour une cabine?
Etant juste à Lao Cai, j'aimerai savoir si il y a quelque chose d'intéréssant à faire l'autre côté de la frontière chinoise? Mon frère m'a dit qu'il y avait juste des articles électroniques qui sont intéréssant par rapport au Vietnam.

Pour aller de l'autre cote de Lao Cai il te faut un visa chinois (et donc un visa vietnamien a plusieurs entrees !) A part les fruits et la nourriture (que tu achetes en gros) en Chine je n'ai pas d'idee de la ville frontaliere chinoise mais d'apres d'autres touristes elle n'est pas trop top...
2 nuits, c'est juste; il vaut mieux en reserver plus, ce qui ne t'empeche pas de partir quand tu veux. Cq depend où tu est: les meilleures guesthouses sont toujours pleines, alors réserver + de nuits est justifié
Les tours s'achètent dans les hotels le jour pour le lendemain (le minibus vient généralment à l'hotel à 8h). Prend les tours ODC 3j-2nts Along, 1j Hoa Lu-Tam Coc, et 1j Pagode des Parfums, c'est très bien et pas cher

Quand j'ai visité le Vietnam, la ville que j'ai préféré est Hoi An.
Hoi an est une des rares villes qui a résistée aux intempéries et à la guerre.
Les maisons sont très anciennes et très jolies. Tu peux visiter certaines maisons. Les propriétaires t'expliquent l'architecture, l'histoire de la ville...
A Hoi an il y a le Pont Chinois que tu ne peux pas louper. Il est très beau aussi et il y a toute une histoire qui va avec. (voir photo)
Tu est obligé d'aller faire un tour dans la fabrique de soie. Les vietnamiens te feront découvrir leur fabrique, comment est fabriqué la soie. Du vers à soie jusqu'à la réalisation d'un vêtement. Tu pourras d'ailleurs faire faire un vêtement sur mesure dans un de ces ateliers. En une nuit ils peuvent réaliser ce que tu veux: costume, chemise, robe... pour quelques euros. Ainsi que les lampions de toutes les couleurs et de toutes les tailles
Tu pourras faire un tour de cyclopouse de la ville d'environ une heure pour 20 000dongs (1euro)
flaner dans toutes les petites boutiques de peintures, d'artisanat et de souvenirs. Les gens de Hoi an qui tiennent ces boutiques sont tous très gentils.
J'ai acheté un très gros tableau dans une de ces boutiques (le tableau fait environ 1m20 de haut sur 1m de large) et je l'ai payé 16dollars...
Le tableau est magnifique, il est sur l'un des mur de mon salon et je l'admire tous les jours depuis 1an.
Aujourd'hui je m'en veux d'avoir discuter le prix du tableau.
Au dépard le petit pépé Vietnamien me le vendait 50euros... et il est descendu jusqu'à 16dollars... seulement 16dollars... je recherche depuis très longtemps l'adresse de ce petit pépé vietnamien à qui j'ai acheté ce tableau pour lui renvoyer un peu d'argent parce que ce tableau me rapelle tellement de beaux souvenirs, m'apporte tellement de bonheur que j'aimerai un peu l'aider et lui apporter à lui aussi un peu de bonheur avec un peu d'argent pour améliorer son quotidien !!
si quelqu'un se rend bientot à Hoi An: qui me le dise.
je lui expliquerai ou est la boutique pour qu'il me redonne l'adresse exacte de de ce petit pépé peintre... pour que je puisse lui renvoyer un peu d'argent...

Tu peux aussi louer des velos pour des sommes très modiques et visiter la ville comme ça. C'est sympa egalement !!

Je vais essayer de t'expliquer ou cela s situait:
c'est dans la rue du pont japonnais.
il y a du coté droit du pont le temple : QUANG DON.
Tu continues de ce coté du pont; tu seras dans la rue TRAN PHU St. et tu marches dans cette rue et la petite boutique du pépé et dans cette rue sur ta gauche quand tu la remontes.
Je ne sais pas si c'est tres clair pour toi.

S'il n'y a qu'un pépé dans la rue tenant un magasin de tableau je prendrai son adresse

Je me souviens juste que le pépé avait des lunettes et des cheveux grisonnant.
un jeune homme l'aidait. C'est lui qui s'est occupé de dégraffer le tableau du cadre en bois, de l'emballer dans des feuilles de soie et puis de le roulé dans dans un tuyau (style chainot en plastique gris)
pendant ce temps le pépé m'avait apporté une chaise et avait mis en route 2 gros ventillateurs parce qu'il faisait tres chaud ce jour là.
Ils étaient vraiment tres tres gentils qu'en j' y repense j'ai honte de moi d'avoir marchandé comme ça...
si tu peux me récupere l'adresse de ce pépé ça serait vraiment formidable !!
la boutique était ouverte sur la rue et il y avait des tableaux de partout accrochés aux murs et par terre certains étaient sur cadre d'autes non.

Par contre j'en ai trouvé un autre fort sympatique de 84 ans qui ma dit le secret de sa longevitée:

sinon pour votre pépé à vous, notre guide m'avait dit le secret de la longévité parce que je suis une personne qui sourit et qui rit à longueur de journée alors il m'avait dit à la fin de notre séjour que j'allais vivre tres longtemps et que dans ma prochaine vie je me réincarnerai surment en médécin à cause de mon grand coeur et de la façon d'on je parle et écoute les gens...

L'année prochaine en 2009, nous souhaitons visiter le Vietnam, surtout le Nord.
Nous voulons éviter les endroits trop touristiques.
Habitant Sapa, peux-tu nous dire le temps en général qu'il fait de mi-mars à début avril ? (Soleil, un peu, beaucoup, pas du tout ???).
Faut-il se vêtir très chaudement ?
Est-ce un pays qui se visite facilement seul, ou faut-il un guide pour visiter le Nord (Sapa - Ha Giang - Meo Vac par exemple).

I’m planning a trip to Cambodia and was set on visiting the Ratanakiri region, which seemed to match what we love most in terms of landscapes: forests, jungle, greenery...
However, as I started looking into the area, I read that deforestation there is massive, and some of the info on the topic is years old—the situation hasn’t improved since, unfortunately.
So my question is: is Ratanakiri still worth visiting, and does it justify the long travel time and distance to get there?
I’ve seen that jungle treks are possible, but from experience, I know guides sometimes hesitate to venture deep into the forest and stick to shorter walks along the edges of parks.

Après plusieurs recherches nous nous orientons vers la Malaisie afin de pouvoir combiner nature/forets et plages paradisiaques. L’idée étant de faire découvrir la culture du pays à nos enfants ainsi que la nature, les animaux .

Hello, it’s been a while since I last asked for your help on this forum—I’ve really missed it! I hope you’re all doing well, whether you're new or returning members.
I’m planning a trip from February 6 to 18, 2027, with my sister (we’re 47 and 50—time flies!). I’ve got my eye on a flight from Paris that lands in Bangkok on February 7 at 3 PM, with a return flight from Bangkok on February 18 at noon.
My sister has never been to this destination, and it’ll be her first time in Asia. Her priorities: beaches, sunshine, and cocktails by the shore. For me, I love that too, but I also enjoy exploring, nature, forests, and a bit of comfort (mixing guesthouses and higher-end hotels with pools). A little evening entertainment would be great, but not too much—good cocktails in a nice atmosphere rather than a rave party ;-). And I can’t help but dream of taking her on a little trek through a tropical forest (guaranteed memories and laughs, though she might curse me at the time) and showing her some karst landscapes.
I’ve been to Thailand before, but it was 15 years ago...
The idea is to give her a taste of Bangkok for 1 or 2 nights, a few days on an island (but which one...?), a tropical forest excursion with 1 or 2 nights on-site (Khao Sok?), and then back to Bangkok.
For the "main" island, even after reading the *Guide du Routard*, I’m still undecided. It’s hard to find a place that ticks all the boxes without feeling as crowded as the French Riviera in August: Koh Lanta? Khao Lak (though it’s not an island)? Koh Tao (I could maybe get my PADI certification, but I’m afraid she’d get bored, and it might be better to save that for a solo trip)? Koh Yao Yai (I worry we’d be bored in the evenings)? What a dilemma!

I’ve found so many tips and reviews on this forum, so it’s my turn to contribute a little.
We spent just over two weeks with our family, with the following itinerary:
- Hanoi: 5 days
- Halong Bay: 3 days and 2 nights
- Tam Coc: 3 days
- Mai Chau: 2 days
- Sapa: 3 days
We got around by bike, scooter, Grab, and bus.
Our main accommodations were homestays and hotels in Hanoi.
We visited lots of museums, temples, and neighborhoods in Hanoi.
We did a 2-day, 1-night trek in Sapa with May, a Hmong local, without going through an agency.
A few small regrets: the weather was overcast, and we couldn’t make it to Fansipan, but nothing major 😅. We also couldn’t find transport to get from Sapa to Mu Cang Chai.
Other than that, this trip will stay in our memories for the kindness of the Vietnamese people, the connections we made, the food (street food, homestays...), the coffee 😋, the landscapes, and how easy it was to get around...
Our goal was to take our time and focus only on a small part of northern Vietnam.

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before.
