Voici mon cas, vos conseils et retours d'expérience sont les bienvenus!
Je devais partir 1 mois pour Téhéran en juin, hébergé par un ami sur place.
Passage au consulat à Paris, on me dit qu'un numéro du MFA est obligatoire et on me prend mes empreintes.
J'ai donc demandé un numéro MFA à l'agence perse voyage. Ils n'ont pas réussi à l'obtenir (sans vraiment d'explication) et m'ont remboursé les frais. Bizarre, je ne me décourage pas pour autant.
Je me suis donc tourné vers l'agence "key to persia". Au bout de plus 15 jours, après que j'insiste fortement pour avoir des nouvelles, pareil: pas de numéro pour moi, sans beaucoup plus d'explication. Ils me proposent de leur fournir plus de documents afin d'argumenter ma demande: billets d'avion, certificat d'employeur (je suis prof d'arts plastiques). J'envoies tout ça et pourtant... toujours pas de numéro! Un VOA? ils me le déconseillent, me disent que je risque de ne pas l'avoir vu qu'on m'a refusé le numéro. J'ai donc dû annuler mon voyage.
Je voudrais retenter ma chance pour la fin d'année 2015. L'un d'entre vous s'est-il déjà vu refusé sont numéro MFA?
Je me demande aussi quels sont les délais pour refaire une demande, ou si je ne devrais pas tenter un VOA...
Bref, je suis un peu perdu, compliqué ces histoires de visa!
Je suis artiste plasticien et prof d'art en Lycée... À part ça je ne vois pas... Ou alors un homonyme mais ça serait fou!

votre demande de visa mentionnait-elle l'hébergement chez l'habitant ? Si oui, pas impossible que ce soit corrélé au refus.Mais difficile de donner un avis ou un conseil plus précis...
@Meg2: En effet je devais être hébergé chez l'habitant, mais bizarrement l'agence Key to Persia a plutôt évoqué un problème avec ma profession (qu'ils m'ont demandé de justifier). Il semble que le MFA n'ai pas voulu m'accorder de visa touriste. Je n'ai pas pu en savoir plus!
Je vais certainement faire un tour au consulat à Paris pour voir, mais je doute qu'il puisse vraiment m'éclairer... Dans tous les cas je me demande si tenter un VOA dans quelques mois est raisonnable : peut-être trouveront-ils une trace de ce refus au service visa de l'aéroport!
Il n'est pas évident que vous obteniez les raisons exactes de ce refus.
Aucun consulat au monde n'est tenu de se justifier. Mais ça vaudrait la peine de vous y rendre, ne serait-ce que pour prendre la température de l'accueil qu'ils réserveront à vos interrogations.
En revanche, si ce n'est pas votre profil, celui de votre hébergeur est peut-être dans le collimateur.
Quoi qu'il en soit, je vous déconseillerai vivement de tenter un VOA dans ces conditions même dans 6 mois.
Car quand bien même ça passerait à l'arrivée, on n'est jamais à l'abri d'un contrôle durant le séjour.

De mémoire, sur un total de 8 semaines de voyage en Iran, j'ai été contrôlé 5 fois :- dans l'autocar revenant de Torbat-e Jam vers Machhad, une zone proche de la frontière afghane et abritant de nombreux trafics, y compris immigration clandestine.
- à Téhéran, après avoir photographié l'Ambassade de France, rue "Nofle-le-Chato". Comme tout bâtiment officiel, il est interdit de photographier l'Ambassade, même en étant français.
- à Maraqeh, alors que je venais de photographier l'intérieur de la gare ferroviaire après avoir demandé l'autorisation à 2 militaires de garde, mais sans m'être fait comprendre. Là aussi, contexte d'un bâtiment officiel, ce que je savais, et raison pour laquelle je demandais l'autorisation. D'ailleurs, il est aussi interdit de photographier les gares ferroviaires en Inde.
- au poste de police de la route du col avant Howraman-at Takht, zone sensible à proximité de la frontière avec le Kurdistan irakien,
- et une seconde fois le même jour quelque part entre ce poste de police et Nosud, à une entrée de la zone interdite le long de la frontière.
Donc contrôles suscités par 3 visites en zone sensible et par 2 photographies de bâtiments officiels. Dès qu'un bâtiment semble officiel, mieux vaut éviter de photographier 😉.

l'Iran est un pays avec un pouvoir central relativement fort et correctement équipé en "technologies de l'information". Je suppose que les refus de visa sont enregistrés dans la même base de données centrale que les visas valides et les demandes de visa. Compter sur un "visa on arrival après un refus de visa est, â mon avis, un choix assez risqué (risque de refoulement à l'arrivée)
Quant au motif du refus, il est tout-â-fait possible qu'on ne vous le donne pas, surtout s'il est lié au "profil" de votre hôte iranien... Pour une demande ultérieure, afficher un profil + "touriste" serait sans doute préférable, plutôt que de dire qu'on veut passer plusieurs semaines au même endroit chez un Iranien...
Ne mentionne pas l'hébergement chez un ami.
Si tu le peux (pour l'Iran, je ne sais pas) fait une réservation que tu pourras annuler une fois le visa obtenu. Même si tu perd une ou deux nuits d'hotel.

Je songe en effet à renouveler ma demande avec un profil plus "touriste", quitte à reserver une première nuit d'hôtel ou à planifier avec une agence locale mon déplacement Téhéran-Shiraz...
Dans tous les cas, je ne manquerai pas de vous informer une fois que j'aurais été au consulat!
Suite à votre message, j'apporte ma modeste contribution. Vous dîtes ne pas avoir obtenu de numéro MFA auprès des agences citées. Je ne remets pas en cause le sérieux de celles-ci mais peut-être n'ont-elles pas fait leur travail correctement?
Loin de moi l'idée de faire de la publicité mais pourquoi ne pas essayer une autre agence, par exemple Touran Zamin:
Certains ici diront que tout s'est très bien passé avec Key2Persia mais l'aventure n'est peut-être pas la même d'une personne à une autre.
Essayez donc de demander votre numéro une dernière fois. Si vous essuyez un nouveau refus, un ou des éléments dans votre dossier poseraient donc problème et tenter un VOA dans l'immédiat ne serait probablement pas approprié.
Je lis régulièrement les posts dans cette section et je réalise à quel point nous avons tous des expériences différentes. L'ambassade m'avait également dit de ne pas m'aventurer dans le VOA car on me le refuserait. C'était ma première fois en Iran, j'y ai cru. Par précaution, on nous dit qu'il est préférable d'avoir son visa avant de partir. Ma foi, ils n'ont pas forcément tort.
Quant à l'hébergement à indiquer, là encore, nous sommes différents. De mon côté, je n'avais rien indiqué. D'autres ont eu besoin d'écrire une adresse.
J'ai également découvert que des voyageurs ont obtenu leur visa à l'ambassade sans numéro MFA alors qu'on nous rabâche son caractère obligatoire.
Mon conseil serait bien minable comparé à celles et ceux qui reviennent récemment d'Iran mais le mieux est de tout indiquer; numéro, adresse, etc...tout ce qui semblera utile pour les iraniens.

En Inde et en Egypte aussi il y a a peu, j'ai pu photographier des gares sans soucis , ce qui m'avait été refusé autrefois
Ce type d'interdiction est valable dans beaucoup de pays , dont la France (merci Fayd de me l'apprendre ) ;j'habite Rennes et je ne connaissais pas les règles pour son métro....
Il semble effectivement un peu ridicule d'interdire la simple photo touristique , car à l'heure des technologies pointues , un espion ou un terroriste aura d'autres possibilités que sortir son petit compact . Pour des photos professionnelles , c'est évident qu'un matériel complexe ou une utilisation à des fins lucratives me semble requérir à juste titre des autorisations .
Après 4 séjours en Iran (et 1 escroquerie au visa par iranianvisa.com ...), je penche pour la conjugaison de deux facteurs pour expliquer si possible le refus de votre n° MFA : hébergement chez l'habitant (il est tellement plus simple de donner une adresse d'hôtel, et donc de ne pas "impliquer" votre hôte) + votre profession en arts plastiques etc. (le mouvement artistique est très développé en Iran, mais passe pour "subversif" le cas échéant, a fortiori si venant de l'étranger). Donc, cette association était peut-être de trop...
Refaire une demande l'année prochaine, en évitant ces 2 mentions !!

Je vous explique ma situation.
J'ai malheureusement perdu mon passeport , et je m'en suis rendu compte seulement 2 semaines avant mon départ pour une mission humanitaire en Libye. Je suis infirmière et cette mission me tient vraiment à cœur.
J'ai d'abord fait une demande de passeport d'urgence, qui a été refusée par la préfecture du Val-d'Oise, au motif qu'une mission humanitaire programmée ne constituait pas un motif impérieux.
J'ai donc déposé une demande de passeport biométrique le 20 juillet. Depuis, le suivi est bloqué et la mairie ne peut (ou ne veut) pas vraiment me donner d'informations. À chaque appel, on me donne une version différente. La dernière information que j'ai eue est que le passeport serait produit depuis le 23 juillet et avec un statut "va être expédié", mais depuis plus rien.
J'ai réussi à repousser mon départ au maximum à mardi prochain, mais je commence vraiment à paniquer.
Est-ce que certains d'entre vous ont déposé une demande autour du 20 juillet, notamment dans le Val-d'Oise (95) ? Combien de temps avez-vous attendu entre la production du passeport et sa mise à disposition en mairie ? Est-ce normal que cette étape prenne aussi longtemps ?
Cette mission représente énormément pour moi. J'avais tout organisé et je suis également censée assister au mariage d'une amie à la frontière juste après.

I have to leave for Perth, Australia in a week, for 7 days, and I couldn’t get my international driver’s permit due to processing and delivery delays.
The information I’ve found about whether an international permit is required is contradictory. Some sources say you need one, others say you don’t.
Could anyone let me know if an international driver’s permit is necessary to rent a car in Australia (Perth), or if a French license is enough for a 7-day rental?
I’m a bit embarrassed because I need to travel to Quebec from February 27th to March 13th. I’m a regular visitor to Canada—this will be my 10th trip since 1997, plus a year as a permanent resident (2000–2001) and a cross-country run from Vancouver to Halifax in 2011. So, I’m definitely not a terrorist!
But since our last trip in July 2015, they’ve introduced this eTA thing. Seems more like a way to make money than to actually secure Canada, if you ask me, but anyway, that’s not the point.
I applied for an eTA for myself, my wife, and our two kids. They all got approved within hours, but not me! I was asked to create a GC key and then an IRCC account, which I did. Normally, you get news within 72 hours, but since Monday, January 15th, nothing!
In the "message" section of the account, it says "explanation letter (required)" with a deadline of January 25th, but I can’t find any explanation anywhere—despite searching the Canadian government website and Google. No links, nothing!
I’ve emailed them but haven’t heard back yet. I’m thinking of calling the Canadian embassy in Paris tomorrow. Even though I’m not stressing yet, it’d be a bummer if everyone else got to go without me!
If anyone’s had this issue before or knows what this explanation letter is about, I’d love to hear more.

I’m heading to Seoul in September, and to do that I need to get a travel authorization that we apply for through K-ETA....... turns out I can (barely, I admit) fill out the form up to the address of our "stay location," but every address I’ve entered has been rejected by the system. I’ve tried my hotel, the Lotte Hotel (which is well-known in Seoul), the airport—basically, I’ve entered at least 20 addresses, all rejected....
So, to anyone who’s successfully gotten the authorization, could you tell me which address you used to get that "elusive" approval?...

I’m planning a trip from France to Alberta/British Columbia, and I’m unsure about which bank card to use for the security deposit with the rental company (I’m thinking of going with AVIS).
I contacted Avis Canada, and they told me a credit card is absolutely required. I asked my bank for a credit card (a *real* credit card), but they only offered me a deferred debit card.
My question: For a rental with Avis Canada, is a Gold International Mastercard deferred debit card usable for the security deposit needed to finalize the rental? Is the "CREDIT" label enough? (Some cards say "CREDIT" and others say "CARTE DE CREDIT"—seems minor, but it’s actually a big deal in how the card works.)
I’ve seen conflicting info everywhere I look... My bank says it’s *usually* okay (the deferred debit card), while Avis Canada insists it *must* be a credit card, not debit—even when I mention the deferred debit card.
I know the whole credit card concept is already confusing, and on top of that, some sites say a deferred debit card counts as a credit card, while others say it doesn’t.

I bought a one-way flight (Ryanair) and a return flight (EasyJet) to spend a week in Morocco in April.
My passport expires 3 weeks after the return date.
Some websites say the passport must be valid for 3 months at the time of entry.
However, it will still be valid both on entry and return, but its validity will only be 1 month at the time of entry (and 3 weeks on the return date, everything prepaid).
It's an individual family trip.
The consulate can't give me an answer—they're still looking into it (really!)
Last year, we stayed for 3 months in Thailand, north of Khao Lak, and were able to benefit from the 2-month visa exemption, renewable for one month by going to Takua Pa to validate a 1-month extension (1,900 baht).
This year, it’s a disaster for us—not only were we planning a 4-month stay, adding a visa run in between (which some say is quite risky), but the law is apparently changing in the coming months with the return of the 1-month exemption (plus the usual 1-month option). So, we looked into applying for a 6-month multiple-entry visa, allowing a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand. However, I can’t find anywhere the minimum time required outside Thailand between two stays—do any of you have an idea?

We’ll soon be moving to Madagascar long-term.
As a French national, I need to obtain a short-stay visa that can be converted to a long-stay one. To do this, I have to send the required documents to the Madagascar embassy in Paris.
No issues with that procedure so far.
If I get this visa, once I arrive in Madagascar, I’ll need to provide the same documents to the Ministry of the Interior in Anosy. I’m trying to find an email address or website for the Ministry to check which documents I need to submit (I think they ask for additional ones).
If you have any info on this, I’d appreciate your replies.

I’d like to know if anyone has already applied for a private visa to Russia with an invitation from a Russian resident.
I traveled earlier this year with an e-visa, but since I want to stay longer, I’ll be visiting my friend who lives in eastern Russia.
For the visa application, does the invitation need to be on an official paper form issued by the Russian ministry? And most importantly, do I need to present the original for the application, or is there an electronic version that can be sent directly to the consulate in France?

I filled out the B2 form to apply for a visa, created an account on Atvis to pay the visa fees and schedule a meet-up, but every time I try to pay with my Boursobank Visa 1st card, they refuse the payment with a message telling me to check my details (address), even though everything is correct. Does anyone know why this is happening, or maybe they don’t accept Visa cards? Are you aware of this?

There are rumors going around about the ETA: it must absolutely be on your smartphone in the "ETA" app.
Paper documents might not be accepted.

We need to apply for a B2 visa because we visited Iran in 2018. It currently costs $185, but they’re planning an additional $250 fee per person for the same visa—it’s been approved but not yet implemented. Does anyone know when this fee will take effect?

I’ve read that China may ask for proof of exit within 30 days (flight ticket or other reservation). Since we’d be leaving by land, I’m wondering how this works in practice.
Has anyone here been in this situation recently?
Did the airline ask for an exit ticket before boarding?
Did Chinese authorities require proof upon arrival?
Is a train/bus ticket to Vietnam sufficient?
Is a cancelable or flexible reservation accepted?

My wife and I are heading to the US.
On her ticket, it only has her maiden name (e.g., Martine DUPOND).
On her passport, it’s written as Martine DUPOND épouse AVRY.
No issues for travel, I hope I did the right thing with the ticket?
Then for the ESTA, is just Martine DUPOND enough, or do I need to include the "épouse AVRY" part like on the passport?

I saw on the French Embassy in Peru’s website and the Peruvian Consulate in Paris’s site that the rule is to have a passport valid for 6 months *after the arrival date* (not the return date).
I arrive in Peru on August 13, 2019 (for about twelve days), and my passport is valid until February 16, 2020.
That’s 6 months and 3 days after my arrival date in Peru. In my opinion, I’m good to go.
But could I still be denied entry if they say I don’t cover the return date or that I’m too close to the 6-month mark?
I read on the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs website that it’s possible to apply for a temporary driving permit in China, valid for 1 month.
I’m planning to rent a car (without a driver) to explore part of the country next August, so I was wondering:

How long do the formalities take on the spot?

My departure is slowly approaching, and now that I’ve got my Russian visa sorted, I’m fine-tuning the rest of my trip to Tajikistan. Since the Tajik visa is no longer required for stays under 30 days (for French nationals), I’ll need to visit the Ministry of Interior (OVIR) to register within 10 days of entering the country. No big deal, though, since I had to go there anyway to apply for my GBAO permit. 😉 However, I’ve *seen* several reports from travelers (mostly motorized) mentioning that you need an entry permit for Kyrgyzstan, which has to be arranged in advance at the Kyrgyz Ministry (consulate?) in Dushanbe. Otherwise, you’re *stuck* at the Kyzyl-Art border (with no Wi-Fi, of course, to try and sort it out). The most recent report was from a year ago, so I’d love to know if this is still the case and if it’s indeed at the Kyrgyz Ministry (consulate?) where you need to go for this pre-authorization.
