Nouvelle inscrite j'ai pas mal parcouru les discussions pouvant correspondre a mes interrogations sur l'organisation de ce voyage.
Nous sommes de jeunes mariés et nous avons pour projets de partir 21 jours sur la côte ouest des USA pour notre voyage de noce, pour le moment nous hésitons entre prendre ce voyage tout prêt ou l'organiser nous mêmes. Sur le forum j'ai vu que le penchant était plutôt a la deuxième propositions.
Nous avons vu quelques agences qui nous propose toutes a peu près la même chose entre 2000 et 2500 euros tout compris par personne (vol, hôtel et loc de voiture)
Nous avons un budget de 4000/5000 euros pour nous deux. Nous aimerions faire SF/LA/LV côté ville (peut importe l'ordre) et évidemment des parcs (pas trop non plus!) ma préférence va a celui de Yellowstone mais j'ai peur que ce ne soit pas jouable niveau distance, une ou deux ville fantôme et pour le reste nous ne savons pas très bien quoi voir, en sachant que nous ne sommes pas très branché randos 🙂 et que ca risque d'être notre premier et dernier voyage ! L'organisation du voyage par nos soins me paraît compliqué, tellement peur de mal faire, c'est vraiment pas évident. Si toutefois vous avez des conseils je suis preneuse (je sais que je doit être la dix milième a vous poser ce genre de question, désolé 😕 )
Mon ami et moi sommes partis en juin dernier pendant un mois dans l'ouest américain, un voyage fabuleux que nous avions décider d'organiser nous même.
Nous n'avons pas regrette ce choix étant donne que nous sommes partis sans faire de réservation mais avec notre itinéraire en tête. Un choix qui c'est avéré judicieux vu qu'une fois sur place nous pu avons réajusté nos choix sans être tenu par quoi que ce soit.. (les seules reservations effectuées ont ete annulees pour cause de mauvais temps donc itinéraire modifié).
Nous avons fait seulement LV et SF comme villes, on a visite des parcs le reste du temps.
Nous ne nous sommes pas rendu au parc de Yellowstone car trop éloigné du reste et nous avons déjà bcp roulé (6500km) ...Tu peux toujours envisager de t'y rendre par des vols internes.
Je pense qu'avec internet aujourd'hui organiser son voyage soit même est largement faisable.

J'imagine que de gérer au moment sur place donne pas mal de liberté, mais en en réservant rien a l'avance...ca m'emballe pas plus que ca (vu notre niveau d'anglais en plus peur de galérer sur place !) L'idéal effectivement serait de tout réserver avant de partir. Ca me parait énorme a faire , j'ai du mal a me rendre compte ce qui est possible de faire suivant le timing et les kilomètres.
L'idée du vol interne peut être pas mal pour Yellowstone, a potasser....

Pour ma première confirmation de mariage, j'avais réservé de France la limo, la cérémonie, le bouquet de fleurs et la boutonnière, la Vidéo, les Photos ...
C'était un vrai mariage dans le package, mais une fois sur place l'église m'a remboursé tous les frais inhérents à la déclaration au consulat ...
Car ce n'était qu'une confirmation de mariage
J'en garde un très bon souvenir car nos 3 garçons ont été nos témoins et on avait emmené la robe de mariée de ma femme qui avait 15 ans et qui avait pris une valise entière
Pour la deuxième confirmation de mariage pour nos 20 ansï, je n'est rien réservé d'avance
Et comme on a dormi à l'Excalibur, j'ai simplement réservé la salle et le prêtre pour le lendemain avec la location de costumes d'époque en princesse et roi et princes pour nos 3 garçons car le thème de l'hôtel Excalibur est la Chevalerie, les princesse type Blanche Neige ou La belle au Bois Dormant et le roi (moi bien sûr)
De bons souvenir et une partie de rigolade avec les costumes
Donc la première option si tu veux que "ça le fasse" et la seconde pour plus rigoler
On a aimé les deux (c'est normal, c'était nos mariages)
Pour les Etats unis, il vaut mieux que tu prépare ton circuit seule, sans passer par une agence ! Il n'y a que des avantages de le préparer.Tout d'abord il faut monter le circuit. Savoir dans quelle ville vous arriverez et quelle ville vous repartirez ?? Puis le nombre de jours passer dans chaque ville et parcs.Une fois le circuit monter, déterminez les dates du circuit. réservez les billets d'avionréserver les logements (hôtels/motels:Campings...)puis déterminez ce que vous allez faire sur place : visites, parcs d'attractions...Niveaux parcs Nationaux vous avez : le Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, bryce canyon, Death valley, arches, canyonlands... puis le lac powell avec ses points de vues, horseshoe bend, antelope canyon...
le mieux c'est de taper les noms de ses différents SITES sur google et voir des photos de ce qui vous intéresse. Très sympa Brunojapon ces confirmations, nous allons effectivemment voir ce qu'on peut faire, plutôt quelque chose de marrant pas trop sérieux sans non plus tomber dans le kitchouille !!

Si toutefois on y arrive, c'est vrai qu'organiser nous même sera plus sympa, ce qui m'embete c'est les billets d'avion les prix varient tres vite !
Pour nos dates nous n'aurons pas trop de choix avec mon travail et mon planning il faut que je pose mes jours au plus avantageux donc deux périodes nous sont possible soit du 16/04/11 au 07/05/11 soit du 21/05/11 au 11/06/11.
Sinon en gros et pas forcement dans l'ordre voila un peu a quoi nous avons pensé, on fera une boucle :
San Francisco, Bodie state historic park, parc Yosémite, Monterey, Carmel, Big sur, Point lobos state reserve, Los Angeles, Santa monica, Venice, San luis obispo, Palm springs, Death valley, Las Vegas, Valley of fire, Red rock canyon, Bryce canyon, Monument valley, Navajo nation, Page, Lake powell, Antelope canyon, Flagstaff, Sedona, Jerome, Phoenix, Scottsdale.
Finalement on va laisser tomber Yellowstone trop loin.
Est ce un parcours faisable en 3 semaines ? Est ce que vous changeriez des choses ?
Aux deux périodes où tu poses tes congés, il y a de fortes chances pour que tu ne puisses pas passer du Yosemite à Bodie sans faire un gros détour parceque la Tioga pass risque d'être fermée (surtout pour les dates de fin avril-début mai).
Sinon il faut voir le parcours, mais en trois semaine ça risque d'être dur de faire tout ça. Peut-être éliminer justement la partie Yosemite/Bodie et faire quelques chose dans le genre :
SF-Monterey-Big Sur-LA-Palm Spring-Death Valley-LV-Valley of fire-Zion-Bryce-Page-Monument Valley-Grand Canyon-Sedona-Phoenix

Je sais (enfin j'ai lu sur le forum 😉) que pour les tarifs d'avion il faut faire une recherche multidestinations mais tout les sites ne le proposent pas, il faut que je cherche ca, ce qui nous éviterais la boucle.
comme l'a souligné mon prédécesseur, si vous partez à la 1ère période, il y a des chances que la Tioga Pass permettant de traverser Yosemite vers l'est (et Bodie) soit fermée... par contre cette période de la mi avril à début mai peut être sympa pour ne pas "crever de chaud" à Sedona, Valley of Fire, Death Valley, Page... mais il fera peut être frais au Grand Canyon, Bryce...
le trajet proposé : SF-Monterey-Big Sur-LA-Palm Spring-Death Valley-LV-Valley of fire-Zion-Bryce-Page-Monument Valley-Grand Canyon-Sedona-Phoenix va bien avec cette période de la mi avril à début mai
sinon entre fin mai et début juin, on peut tenter un : Phoenix - Sedona - Grand Canyon - Monument Valley - Page - Bryce Canyon - Zion - Valley of Fire - Las Vegas - Death Valley - Bodie - Yosemite - SFO - la côte - LA (quoique perso sur la fin je ferais Yosemite - Monterey - SFO pour avoir plus de temps et ne pas trop courir)...

aucun problème de commencer à Phoenix et de finir à SFO ou LA !
il faut regarder les vols en cochant la case multidestinations de sites tels que opodo.fr ou kayak ou liligo...
et a priori, pas de frais d'abandon entre Phoenix et SFO (à vérifier mais perso, on n'en a pas payé l'an passé)

Merci Vnoa, du coup j'ai étudié mon parcours cette nuit (au travail 😉) et finalement je ne pense pas qu'on aille jusque Phoenix, je vais voir comment faire autrement pour aller a Yosemite quand même (il y a que l'entrée par la Tioga qui est fermée?) , nous ne passerons pas a Bodie. Tes parcours me semble pas mal juste je vais faire quelques changements par rapport a Phoenix reste a voir combien de temps prévoir a chaque endroit. Pas évident tellement de choses a voir qu'il faut faire un choix. Je vais bosser ca cette nuit si j'ai le temps et vous soumettre une ébauche demain (en sachant que je n'ai pas le ternet au boulot mais mes guides du routard)

Je vais pouvoir essayer de monter le circuit, si je ne passe pas par Phoenix du coup est il possible de faire Flagstaff puis direction Palm Spring ? Y'a t'il des choses entre les deux, je n'arrive pas a trouver une carte assez détaillée.

En trois semaines, j'ai fait 3300 miles. J'ai trouvé que ça allait. Conduire là bas c'est bien moins crevant qu'en Europe.
Les plus longues étapes que j'ai faite devait être autour de 300 miles. Le maximum selon moi si on veut garder du temps pour voir deux ou trois truc sur la route.

ce voyage est parfaitement réalisable en "individuel", les voyages organisés reviennent peut être un peu moins cher et encore c'est à voir, les tours opérateurs négocient leurs prix mieux que nous ne pouvons le faire enfin c'est ce que je pense
je vous confirme que les distances sont importantes, c'est un critère à ne pas négliger dans la préparation

Alors Là c'est à voir !!! Les voyages organisés reviennent plus chers ! Pour 2 semaines j'en ai eu pour 3000€ à 2 tout compris (vols A/R, hébergements, repas, visites, souvenirs, pourboires..).
Un voyage organisé était à 1750€ par personne sans les souvenirs, pourboires...
Oui finalement avec l'aide (précieuse!) et les conseils de tout le monde sur ce forum, ainsi que les guides du routard et d'autres sites, on a décidés de se lancer, ca va nous prendre un peu de temps mais ce n'est que du plaisir de tout organiser, c'est sur qu'on appréhende un peu de faire des boulettes mais bon c'est le risque.
On a fait le tour de quelques agences ils faut bien compter entre 1900 et 2500 euros minimum pour un voyage avec eux...
Sinon on sait qu'une bonne partie de ce voyage va se faire sur la route, on va essayer d'être raisonnable dans la répartition des km afin de profiter de touts ces magnifiques endroits a visiter. Le "gros" du parcours est presque validé, nous reste a regarder dans le détails les points a voir, la durée de chaque étapes...
Nous pensons bloquer les dates du 16 avril au 6 mai, les billets d'avion pour cette date nous reviendront a environ 1390 euros pour deux A/R.
Oui en fait on a décidé de repartir le vendredi dans l'après midi au lieu du samedi matin et ca nous fait gagner 200 euros ! J'attends de pouvoir aller voir ma cadre vendredi afin de poser mes jours et on va vite réserver je pense.
Bon c'est un peu la panique a la maison, grosse tuile avec ma voiture qui va engendrer de gros frais n'ayant pas d'argent de côté nous allons devoir piocher dans le budget voyage de noce, du coup on commence a se demander si on part toujours au même endroit sachant que nous devrons raccourcir notre voyage ! Est ce que ca vaut toujours le coup si nous partons que 2 semaines au lieu de 3 ? Ou devons nous changer de destination ?

Pour 15 jours on en a eu pour 3000€ tout compris pour 2 personnes (vol A/R, hôtels, repas/resto, visites, souvenirs, essence, location voitures...)
Donc comme je disais supprimer des étapes (faire un choix entre los angeles et san francisco peut etre).
Ou vous pouvez garder votre circuit mais en prenant un vol interne de Las vegas a San francisco et de san francisco a los angeles ! voir au niveau des prix !!
Pour le budget ca me semble jouable mais on va devoir attendre que les réparations de la voiture soit faite pour voir ce qu'il nous reste pour partir.
Ca va être dur de choisir , du coup l'idée du vol interne est pas mal.
Pour ce qui est des billets d'avion nous avons aussi un peu peur qu'ils augmentent vraiment car malheureusement nous ne pouvons pas les acheter pour le moment ne sachant pas ce que nous allons pouvoir faire.

Bon encore un changement, finalement le voyage restera sur trois semaines mais se fera en janvier, il a donc fallu que nous changions plus ou moins le parcours car a cette époque les parcs nationaux c'est mort ! Donc on aimerais faire une petite semaine sur New York et ses environs proches (a voir ce qu'il y a, a faire) puis se diriger vers la Californie pour le reste avec toujours un passage a Las Vegas ! Ce sera donc moins circuit mais plus séjour. Il faut maintenant qu'on se renseigne plus sur ce qu'il y faut faire et voir... etc....Pfffiouuu on va vraiment l'apprécier ce voyage !!!
Voila finalement voyage réservé il ne se fera que sur New York a cause de diverses choses qui nous ont obligé de reconsidérer totalement notre voyage de noce , on en fera certainement plusieurs a des dates et destinations différentes.

Hello! The itinerary is pretty much set for August 2026. Yeah, I know it’s gonna be *super* hot. But it’s the only time we can get away.

Stay from July 31 to August 26, 2026:
Car rental – check,

Walmart, of course, for the cooler when we arrive.

Tucson and the Pima Air & Space Museum:

Still working on the program.

Round trip around the area via Flagstaff and Williams, or the Grand Canyon (already done) – we’ll decide on the spot.

Old Route 66 in the city;
Big Texas Ranch Steak 😏.

And through it all – the road, the road, and more road!!!
We’ll adapt day by day based on our mental and physical state (we’re not exactly spring chickens).
Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!
We’re really excited but could definitely use your help with choices and optimizations!!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?
Hi there. I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. For those who’ve done both Lower and Upper, can you tell me if the price difference is really justified? Thanks

As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.

I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
