Le phénomène a pris de l'ampleur et des pillages de grandes surfaces ont maintenant eu lieu aussi.

L'État d'Urgence a été déclaré, pour le moment, UNIQUEMENT EN CE QUI CONCERNE LA RÉGION MÉTROPOLITAINE, càd Santiago et les environs immédiats.

Mais. des manifestations ont actuellement lieu dans d'autres villes du Chili et la situation pourrait empirer encore.

La situation s'est fort dégradée ces dernières heures.

Ou les prestations se font-elles guide + voiture ? Vol Calama - Santiago Vol Santiago Ile de Paques J11 - J12 ? --> faut-il répartir ces jours sur les régions d'Atacama et du sud Lipez ou autre région ? J13 - J14 - J15 : Ile de Pâques J16 : Ile de Paques - Santiago - Paris : ça va nous faire un gros gros temps d'avion : 5h + 4h d'escale + 13h + 3h d'escale + 2h --> vous voyez une façon d'optimiser ou c'est le jeu sur ce type de destination ?

Could you recommend any places to stay and neighborhoods in Santiago that are budget-friendly, please? We’d also like to visit Valparaíso despite some safety concerns. Nous souhaitons faire le parc Lauca et le Salar de Surire, vaut-il mieux le faire avec une excursion ? Je suis preneuse de toutes vos suggestions de visites dans le coin. - Retour sur Arica et vol Arica -> Santiago - A voir si nous aurons le temps d'ajouter une étape à Valparaiso (en bus depuis Santiago) - Santiago : 1 nuit - Retour en France

Pour la voiture de location, est-ce qu'il vaut mieux louer une seule voiture durant tout le voyage (prise du véhicule à Calama et retour à Arica avant de reprendre l'avion vers Santiago) ou alors laisser la première avant l'excursion en Bolivie (pour ne pas payer inutilement les 3 jours lorsqu'on sera en Bolivie) et en reprendre une ensuite ?

For our trip in September 2025 from mid-September to early October (3 weeks), we’ve planned 8 days in San Pedro, then a transit night in Santiago, 8 days in Chilean Patagonia, and 3 days for Santiago/Valparaíso before heading back. Is it possible to easily explore with a rental car from a lodge based in Puerto Natales, including visiting Torres del Paine National Park? Or does that mean too much driving in a day, or would it be better to plan an overnight stay in the park or nearby?

We applied for our international driver’s permit in January 2025 for September, hoping to get it in time—I checked the forum about this. Regarding the car rental, do we really need a credit card (not debit) in the main driver’s name for the deposit?

How far in advance should we book entry tickets to the national parks for this period?

Notamment à cause de l'altitude et le côté sanitaire. - Peut-on combiner sur 3 semaines, Equateur/Galapagos - Pérou/Bolivie - Chili (autre)/Patagonie ? - Quelle est la meilleure période pour chacun ? - En budget, combien faut-il prévoir par jour (nourriture et logement avec 2 chambres) ? - Pour les billets d'avion, combien ça coûte par personne aller/retour pour les meilleures périodes ? - Outre la rando (nous avons l'habitude de randonner, comme en Islande, dans les Rocheuses canadiennes, le Stromboli, bivouac dans les Pyréenées...), quelles sont les activités que nous pourrions faire avec des enfants en bas âge ? - Enfin, est-il possible d'envisager ces pays sans pour autant changer de lieu d'hébergement tous les jours (pas comme en Islande, et avec des enfants, c'est plus compliqué) ?

For our trip to Chile in November, we rented a car from Europcar for our stop in San Pedro de Atacama. We’ll pick up the car at Calama Airport and return it to the agency in San Pedro. We made the reservation through Rentalcars.

The problem is, I just noticed on the booking that it says in the "what you’ll need when picking up the vehicle" section: "Credit card: The card must have sufficient available funds to cover the excess/deposit (which will be blocked on the card for the duration of the rental)." And then it’s written in red: "Cash payments and debit cards are not accepted."

The thing is, we don’t have a credit card—just debit cards (which, by the way, is the case for most people; we just mistakenly call them "credit cards" when they’re actually "debit cards").

I’ve seen cases where the rental company forced people to purchase additional insurance if they didn’t provide a credit card for the deposit, but that was in European countries, and I haven’t found much info about Chile.

Has anyone else run into this issue with Europcar in Calama?

Do you know if they can refuse to give us the car if we don’t have a credit card for the deposit? Just to note, the rental payment has already been debited, and we’ve opted for the "Full Protection" insurance offered by Rentalcars. If they force us to take extra insurance, will it be something beyond this full protection?

Nous venons de revenir du chili un peu fatigués par le rythme mais c'était un voyage exceptionnel!!! Arrivée à Santiago puis départ pour Puerto Natales pour aller aux glaciers (bateau) et au Parc Torres del Paine. A Puerto Natales, le temps ne nous permettait pas de faire la balade en bateau aux glaciers prévue le premier jour mais notre guide nous a emmené à la grotte du Milaudon ce qui nous a permis de faire le lendemain très tôt le parc national et de revenir pour prendre le bateau à15h30 . Donc, on a tout fait avec le beau temps et c'était magnifique! Retour à Santiago puis Valparaiso. Enfin San Pedro de Atacama et ses merveilles.Terminer par 3 jours à l'île de Pâques est parfait car cela permet de se reposer tout en visitant les sites magnifiques et même de se baigner dans une eau chaude😎

I’m about to fulfill a dream that includes a trip to Patagonia between October and December 2026. I’ll be traveling solo.

My plan: - Take a boat from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales (4-5 days) - Torres del Paine National Park (2-3 days) - Bus from Puerto Natales to Ushuaïa (1-2 days) - Exploring around Ushuaïa (3-4 days) - Cruise from Ushuaïa to Punta Arenas (Oct 31 - Nov 4) - Rent a vehicle and head back up to Puerto Montt by around December 10, which is about 35 days total, via Los Glaciares, El Chaltén, Patagonia NP, Caleta Tortel, Villa O’Higgins, Puerto Río Tranquilo, Bahía Exploradores, Cerro Castillo NP, Coyhaique, Queulat NP, Chaitén, Pumalín NP, and Hornopirén NP.

My goal is to enjoy nature and do some hiking.

I’ll be in Torres del Paine around October 20—is the weather manageable for day hikes at that time?

30-35 days from Punta Arenas to Puerto Montt? That’s about 3,600 km. Is this timeframe doable to enjoy the scenery without rushing? If I arrive in the north earlier, it’s no big deal—I’ll just explore more spots above Puerto Montt.

Now, about the vehicle... I’m torn between a car + tent (regular car with a tent on top) and a small van. Is this enough for the Carretera Austral or unpaved roads? Or would a 4x4 be better? I’m not an experienced 4x4 driver—I’ve only driven occasionally to give the main driver a break on easy sections. A van is tempting for the comfort. Are there any rental options for slightly modified cars or ones where you can sleep, like a Kangoo?

Hi everyone, We’re heading to Chile and Argentina for 4 weeks (Atacama Desert, Easter Island, and Chilean and Argentine Patagonia). For Patagonia, our itinerary (rental car) is as follows: 1 night in Puerto Natales 2 nights in Torres del Paine.

Then we’ll drive back up to El Chaltén, where we’ll spend 3 nights (fingers crossed the weather lets us do the two hikes we’ve planned). After that, we’re off to El Calafate for 2 nights (Perito Moreno Glacier). Our last day and night in Argentina will be spent at an estancia (Nibepo Aike). This is where I’m wondering: We have to drive in one day from the estancia (1.5 hours of dirt road from El Calafate) all the way to Punta Arenas. On paper, it seems doable. Hi, I’m really surprised by the wide range of prices charged by car rental companies in Chile, so I’d like to know which type of vehicle is best suited for the roads in the Lake District: Puerto Montt and Ensenada, between Ensenada and Pucón, and between Pucón and Currarrehue, for example. I have the choice between 4x4s (expensive!), 4x2s (I don’t know what that is), SUVs (also expensive), and more classic vehicles. Thanks in advance! JJC

Malheureusement suite à la sécheresse qui touche la zone centrale du Chili et aux risques accrus de feux de forêts et incendies, trois parcs nationaux sont actuellement partiellement ou totalement fermés.

Réserve Nationale Río Clarillo. Parc National Siete Tazas. Parc National Conguillío.

Restez donc attentifs à l'évolution de la situation.

Puis je pique au sud, direction Ushuaïa. C'est là que j'ai une interrogation comment remonter au Nord du Chili pour aller au sud de la Bolivie? Deux itinéraires possibles qui parfois se croisent la Ruta 40 en Argentine ou la Carretera Austral au chili? Peut-être certains ont fait les deux et leur avis serait sûrement intéressant. Bonjour J'envisage de descendre la route australe depuis Puerto Montt jusqu'à Tortel, et retour. Je viendrai de Santiago et louerai une voiture à Puerto Montt.

J'ai une hésitation sur le nombre de jours à consacrer à cette ballade, je me demande notamment si la partie nord, de Puerto Montt à Puerto Aisen vaut vraiment le coup ou si je ne ferais pas mieux d'atterrir à Balmaceda et de partir d elà vers le sud.

Hi, we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general. Today, we started looking into traveling in April 2026, either to Chile or Argentina. It’s our first trip to South America. I’ve only been to French Guiana once, about ten years ago, for the space center. In recent years, we’ve usually gone to Asia during the spring holidays.

Based on the flight tickets I’ve found, two arrival and departure options are available: - Arriving in Buenos Aires and departing from Salvador de Bahia. - Arriving in Santiago, Chile, and still departing from Salvador de Bahia.

We’re considering flying business class on the outbound flight so we arrive a bit more rested. The travel class might influence our choice between itinerary A or B.

We’d like to spend two days at Iguazu Falls (both the Argentine and Brazilian sides), which explains the departure from Brazil.

Initially, we thought about arriving in Buenos Aires and staying in Argentina before heading to Iguazu. However, the itinerary forces us to go back through Buenos Aires.

We love nature. The El Calafate region seems to offer beautiful, easily accessible landscapes. Maybe there’s another area we should prioritize.

Here are two itineraries—what do you think? I know it’s short, but we can’t add any more days. We’ll have to make it work.
