At the end of my trip around northern Luzon, I’m thinking of checking out the Taal Volcano site: - the lake - the volcano I plan to arrive in Tagaytay in the morning to explore the lake and volcano. Should I stay in Talisay or Tagaytay? And leave the next morning for Manila. What do you think of this plan—are the lake and volcano worth the detour from Manila? I see that a lot of travelers don’t seem to book accommodations in advance and just go with the flow.

It’s all in the title. I’m starting to think about my destination for summer 2026, and Cambodia is currently at the top of my list. Among the spots frequently mentioned for a 2- or 3-week trip to Cambodia, Battambang comes up often. However, so far, I haven’t found any truly remarkable features that would justify spending 2 or 3 days (including travel and visits) in this city during a 3-week stay, especially since I’m primarily looking for stunning photography spots—whether natural landscapes, urban scenes, or architecture. Where can I find some enlightening documentation on Battambang to help shift my perspective? Sorry for exposing my ignorance about this city like this, but all the photos I’ve seen online and the travel journals I’ve read don’t really showcase what makes it appealing, even though the descriptions suggest it’s very charming.

Summer seems to be the best time weather-wise for Bali. And since summer’s when we can take a long trip, let’s go for Bali... even though we know it’ll be *packed* with people! So we’ll steer clear of the island’s south...

Our current plan (19 days on the ground, 7 stops): - 4 Nights (3 days) in Ubud 2 days for rice terraces / activities (Tegallalang, Campuhan Ridge, Monkey Forest, Bird Park, coffee plantation, market (?), dance "pestacle," cooking class and/or spa) 1 day with a driver for the Temples (Pura Gunung Kawi, Tirta Empul Spring, Pura Mengening, Goa Gajah...) - 2 nights in Sidemen (1 day for Pura Kehen + Batur Caldera + Pura Besakih and 1 day to relax in the rice terraces) - 3 nights on Gili Meno (Rest and beaches) from Padangbai - 2 nights in Amed (1 day from Padangbai with the Abang rice terrace and Tirta Gangga baths, and the next day a boat tour in Amed) - 4 nights in Pemuteran (1 day for transfer and rest, 1 day to visit Kawah Ijen, and 2 days of snorkeling at Menjangan Island) - 2 nights in Munduk (1 day with the Dayang rice terrace and the 3-waterfall hike, 1 day at Pura Ulun Danu Bratan) - 2 nights in Jatiluwih (1 day in the rice terraces, and on the last day, we’ll stop by Pura Taman Ayun in Mengwi and Pura Tanah Lot before catching our red-eye flight).

Can you tell me if September is a good time to visit Bali?

We’re in our sixties, not exactly high-level athletes, but we do travel quite a bit. We don’t like changing hotels every day—we prefer to stay in one central spot and explore the area around it. If we need to move to make the most of it, I think twice max would be fine.

I’m going to contact a French-speaking guide (I read about it on the forum) to get an idea of pricing and options, but I’d really love to hear from people who’ve already stayed there during this period and get some tips on finding accommodations.

Should we book through an agency in Hanoi and do the circuit by van, or can we manage with buses—like an overnight bus from Hanoi to Sapa, then 2–3 days in the Sapa region, followed by a bus from Sapa to Ha Giang for a 3-day loop? C'est pas une ville foufou, 4 jours c'est peut être bcp. A voir : le quartier KLCC avec les tours Petronas (venir le soir pour les spectacle des jets d'eau), la montée en haut de la tour Menara et balade dans l'eco Forest, Merdeka Square, Chinatown et temple Mariamman, une soirée à Jalan Alor.

On trouve très facilement pléthores de sociétés de transport qui couvre de Sukhotai à Hua Hin, c'est un peu plus compliqué pour le Nord.

Perso un type Toyota Fortuner/Innova irait très bien, nous sommes 4 et trois valises. Pas besoin d'un minibus pour 4 personnes. C'est le type utilisé l'année dernière et qui nous a parfaitement convenu et c'était évidemment une compagnie thaï avec conducteur itou.

Il reste également la solution "au jour le jour" selon l'hébergeur mais j'aime bien être au clair sur les logements/déplacements avant mon départ et me laisser porter par le vent sur place pour les activités/visites, c'est un choix...

Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).

We’ve already explored Bali, eastern Java, and its volcanoes back in 2013, and we’d love to return to Java to discover other spots that aren’t so "mainstream." There’ll be three of us—a couple and our 25-year-old son. We love nature, small towns, villages, beautiful landscapes, and a bit of beach time... We’re used to backpacking around Southeast Asia. Any tips for exploring some great spots in Java in a coherent way, with 3 or 4 bases for a 3-week trip from late June to mid-July? We don’t want to revisit Bromo or Ijen (they seem way too crowded compared to 2013), and we might swing by Djogja but won’t redo Borobudur or Prambanan (same issue...). Looking forward to your tips! Alright, I’m scaling back the kilometers thanks to the relevance and patience of our Cambodia experts! Here’s yet another hesitation /\ When I arrive early on 01/12 in PP, I have the choice between spending a day in PP (booking a convenience room for half a day and leaving by night bus), sleeping in PP and taking the bus to SR the next morning, or hiring a driver to head back up to PP with a nice little stop and maybe sleeping in Kampong Thom or Kampong Chhnang, then heading to SP on the 13th. Then from the 13th to the 17th or 18th, exploring Angkor. I continue to Kampong Thom and stay for 2 nights (if I didn’t do it on the way there), but I might be templed-out by then. I head to Kampong Cham, where I’ll spend 2 nights—one on the island and one on the mainland. Next, I go to Kampot and Kep: probably 2 nights in Kampot, 2 in Kep, and 1 night on Tonsay Island. On 01/28, I return to PP until 01/29. One detail: how long does it take to get from downtown PP to the new airport? Because I leave on 01/29 around 7:50 PM... Anyway, I’m ready to read your unfiltered reactions 🤓 and thank you in advance for your help!

Hello, I’ve been to Thailand three times a long time ago, and I’d love to visit neighboring countries too: Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia (while returning to Thailand 😛). The catch is that I’d like to go at the beginning of the year, but I’ve heard that’s peak tourist season for these countries. Ideally, I’d prefer to avoid peak season to save money (I’m not exactly rolling in it) and to be able to travel without reservations—without being forced to take a room in the local "palace" that still has availability because of its exorbitant prices.

From my distant memories of Thailand, I usually paid around the equivalent of 20 € per night (with a hearty breakfast) for a hotel room with a mini-bar.

What are the average prices for this type of accommodation in Thailand and its neighbors during "peak" season these days? Do prices fluctuate a lot depending on the season, or is tourist demand not that different from one season to another, keeping prices relatively stable? Are the chances of finding a "budget" room without a reservation still high, no matter the season, in this part of the world? 😇

I’m planning a trip at the end of October/beginning of November to meet up with friends in Penang. My itinerary includes 2 days in Singapore, 2 days in Kuala Lumpur, 2 nights in Malacca, 2 days in Penang, and 4 days in Bali. Originally, I had planned a side trip from Ipoh (1 night) to pass through Cameron Highlands and especially to see Mossy Forest. But I just realized it’s not Taman Negara. So now I’m not sure if I should just cancel this excursion or still go to Mossy Forest. Is Ipoh worth it, Cameron Highlands (knowing I’ve already visited tea plantations in Sri Lanka), and the primary forest? Thanks for your help

For those wondering about driving: no problem at all. The road network is excellent, with plenty of four-lane highways. Driving is easy if you're careful. Avoid driving at night and stay alert around two-wheelers. I’ve been driving there since 2016—I’m no spring chicken—and I’ve covered Thailand from north to south and east to west, even Bangkok. Maps.me and vigilance are all you need... It gives you incredible freedom and lets you discover places that aren’t too crowded yet.
