Je viens de regarder les chiffres du tourisme .Et c'est bien ce que je pensais le nombre de voyageurs/touristes pour la Thailande a explosé .On me dira qu'il y a pas mal de chinois dans le lot.Je me demande si c'est pas comme aller à Noire moutier ou sur la côte d'Azur désormais en pleine été.

Je lis sur le forum que les prix ont explosé .Effet du tourisme de masse ?

Il y a aussi le change 1€ pour 34 baths qui pique.Je suis parti à l'époque des 1€ = 45/50 baths.2005 à 2008 J'ai fais 1 an en tous là bas.

Est ce que vous avez vu une sacrée différence sur la période 2010 jusqu'à maintenant? J'ai l'impression que c'est par tranche...

Avec les reportage tv en Fr, j'ai aussi l'impression que ça a rameuté pas mal de monde. Je suis rentré dans une boutique des jeunes vendeurs parlaient de leurs futurs vacances en Thailande. Il y a 15/20 ans ces jeunes seraient parti sur la côte d'azur , noiremoutier...Alors qu'il y avait des billets pas cher .J'avais payé allé retour 550€ en 2005.

Je pense pas que je retournerai en Thailande car plus le temps que j'avais à 25 ans.Je m'oriente plus vers des endroits ou il y a moins de tourisme de masse, pour l'Asie du Sud Est mais c'est pas au programme pour l'instant.

(Partir en vacances pour retrouver Nanard entrains de se faire gueuler dessus par Ginette .Car Popole commençait à se lever pendant le massage thai. vu à Khao San ou voir Magloire et Momo et mauricette et zoubida "vas y va la baiser c'est toute des putes les thaies!" vu au skytrain etc.Non merci)

J'imagine les gens qui y ont été dans les années 80/90 ça devait vraiment être top.Moi 2005 c'était sympas après j'ai commencé à voir que l'engouement monté.

Après on nous bassine avec la fin du pétrole mais les billets longs trajets sont vraiment pas cher.Je pense que c'est ça aussi qui crame la destination.

After a successful first trip in 2025, with the help of forum members, we’d love to return to this amazing cultural melting pot in 2026 for three weeks (2 adults, 2 kids aged 13 and 16).

We’d like to explore new places in the Northeast: fly into Khon Kaen and explore the region—Loei, Nong Khai, perhaps? A detour to the center to visit Sukhothai would be a great addition.

I’ll admit, planning this itinerary is a bit trickier for me since I’m less familiar with these areas and what they have to offer. The distances also seem longer than our previous transfers (BKK-Kanchanaburi-Kaeng Krachan-Sam Roi Yot...).

Do you have any suggestions or hidden gems to explore in the Northeast and Central regions that keep travel time between stops reasonable (3-4 hours)?

Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bangkok -> Chiang Mai by overnight train in first-class sleeper

CHIANG MAI (6 days/6 nights): Mae Hong Son – Hot springs – Chiang Dao – caves – Lamphun – other places to be decided on the spot based on what’s worth seeing and transport options

Chiang Mai -> Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI (7 days/8 nights): Fang – Tha Ton – Chiang Saen – Doi Tung – Chiang Khong – Doi Ang Khang, Phu Chi Fah, etc.

Chiang Rai -> Phrae

PHRAE (4 days/5 nights): Lampang and surrounding areas, depending on what’s interesting to see

Phrae -> Loei

LOEI (4 days/5 nights): Phu Kradung – Chiang Khan and surrounding areas, depending on what’s worth seeing

Loei -> Buriram

de retour sur le forum, cette fois-ci je sollicite de l'aide des pros de la Thailande pour un avis sur un itinéraire.. Pour planter le décor, ce sera notre première dans un pays asiatique, nous sommes plutôt habitués aux voyages en Europe et l'ouest Américain, donc très peu de connaissance sur le "mode" Asie si ce n'est ce que j'ai lu a droite et à gauche dans les carnets de voyage... Nous envisageons ce voyage en janvier 2021 (ou on est pas en retard, mais pour commencer à regarder les prix des billets d'avion sans tarder, il fallait que j'ai une base...)

A priori, les tarifs des billets d'avion sont beaucoup plus intéressants sur du Lyon (aeroport proche de chez nous) Bangkok, mais pour un premier voyage en Thailande, nous n'avons pas envie de visiter cette énorme mégalopole... Et nous ne savons pas trop si sur le secteur Chiang Mai ou dans le centre et sud, nous pouvons louer une voiture, donc j'ai pour l'instant fait 2 options... Donc, l'itinéraire serait le suivant ...

J1+2 : Vol Lyon - Chiang Mai J3 - 4 - 5 : visite du secteur de Chiang Mai avec location voiture ou excursions avec chauffeur En fin de J5, vol pour Surat Thani ou le matin du J6 (selon horaires et tarifs des vols) J6 : Arrivée à Surat Thani la veille au soir ou le matin - Option location de voiture (je crois qu'il y a Budget à l'aeroport) : route pour Prachuak KK Option train pour monter à Prachuap KK J7 - 8 - 9 : Secteur Prachuap KK + Sam Roi Yot (grotte Phraya Nakhon) Jour 9, si location de voiture, on commence à redescendre ... Si train, jour 9 train de nuit à PKK 23h56 pour arriver le matin du J10 à Surat Thani

J10 : Si voiture, selon où on se sera posé la veille, suite de la route jusqu'au parc National de Khao Sok Si on arrive au train à Surat Thani, transfert à Khao Sok, ou prise d'une location de voiture à Surat Thani car je pense que dans se secteur jusqu'à Krabi, ça ne doit pas être trop dangereux car pas de trop grandes distances (contrairement à la route entre Surat et Prachuap qui est peut-être longue...) J11 : excursion Khao Sok et nuit sur le lac... A voir comment on peut organiser cela, on voudrait quand même quelque chose d'assez confortable sur le lac, faire une balade sur le lac où il y a les grandes falaises et une petite rando dans la jungle mais sans forcément visiter des grottes en marchant dans l'eau... On est pas très aventuriers "Koh Lantha"

J12 : Route (si voiture) ou Transfert sur Krabi au retour de notre nuit sur le lac

J13 - 14 - 15 : Installation Krabi (Ao Nang ?) pour 3 jours, repos et excursions baie de Phang Nga Si voiture, nous la rendrons fin de jour 15

J16 : Speed boat pour Koh Lipe J 17 - 18 : Koh Lipe J19 : Speed Boat pour Krabi - J20 : Vol Krabi - Lyon / Selon tarifs des vols, eventuellement faire un vol Krabi / BKK en fin de J19 et Vol BKK - Lyon si plus interessant

Voilà en gros, merci de me dire si cela semble réalisable... De plus, pensez-vous que nous puissions arriverà boucler avec un budget de maxi 2000 € par personne ?? En tenant compte que nous essayerons de choisir des hébergement de moyenne catégorie, pas de 25 € la nuit mais pas non plus des hebergements de luxe... A priori compter un hebergement assez cher pour la nuit sur le lac de Khao Sok, mais bon... J'ai vu qu'il fallait compter environ 20 € par jour pour une location de voiture, ce qui reste assez cher pour la Thailande, mais je suppose que sans voiture, si on additionne le train et les coûts de tranferts, guide (même si dans certains cas, on aura besoin de guide avec une voiture), cela devrait peut-être nous revenir largement plus cher ??? J'ai aussi pensé au système location de voiture avec chauffeur, mais cela veut dire qu'on aurait besoin de quelqu'un du jour 6 à 12, donc je pense assez cher aussi surtout si on veut un chauffeur qui parle Anglais. Dans ce cas là, les chauffeurs font-il guide en même temps, ou juste chauffeur et qu'on doive à chaque endroit prendre un guide si besoin ?? Désolée pour ces questions qui peuvent paraître bêtes, mais l'Asie est pour l'instant un grand mystère pour nous.

Enfin dernière chose, normalement nous partons seulement à 2 : si nous proposons à des amis de se joindre à nous et que nous sommes 4 ou 6, vaudrait-il le coup de demander à une agence française de nous organiser ce circuit avec chauffeur ? J'ai remarqué que les tarifs des agences sont chères pour 2 personnes mais que le prix baisse considérablement si on est plus nombreux : dans ce cas, avez-vous des agences à me conseiller car en tapant sur Google, il y en a à profusion...

Bonjour à tous Nous sommes un couple de 75 et 76 ans en bonne forme. Nous avons l'habitude d'organiser nous meme nos voyage avec l'aide de ce forum. Nous avons une bonne connaissance de l'Afrique du Nord, mais sur les conseils d'amis nous souhaitons nous "lancer" en Asie du Sud Est. Nous projetons de partir 6 à 7 semaines à partir du 28 octobre 2020. Nos poles d'interets sont -visites -petits trecs -vivre au milieu des habitants. -calme Il faudrait que le circuit tienne compte des conditions climatiques, surtout" pas trop chaud" On aime bien se déplacer en bus ou train . Gros problème....par quel pays débuter?Quel circuit peut-on envisager? Je suis certain que "ce maudit confinement"permettra un échange fructueux Je vous en remercie à l'avance.

I really loved Thailand, but it was too touristy for my taste. So I'm hesitating about going back and wondering if Cambodia or Vietnam would be less crowded with tourists...

Ayant utilisé ce forum pour organiser mes voyages au Vietnam et ayant eu de très bons retours je renouvelle l’expérience pour la Thaïlande cette fois ci.

Je prévois un séjour de 3 semaines environ 20 jours voyages inclus en avril 2020.

Nous serons 4 adultes de 38, à 70 ans et 1 enfant de 9 ans .

Voici dans les grandes lignes ce que nous souhaitons découvrir :

Bangkok : lieu d’arrivée ( si vous avez des hôtels sympa à un prix raisonnable je suis preneuse )

Kanchanaburi et sa région dont le pont de la rivière kwai et les chutes d’erawan.

Changmaï et un centre de sauvegarde des éléphants

Et après les îles là où se situe mon plus grand dilemme, mer d’Andaman ou golf de Thaïlande

À vrai dire j’aimerai les 2 et en particulier , koh Lanta, koh Ngai, et koh tao.

Et aussi peut être une mini croisière pour faire quelques autres îles mais pas forcément loger dessus .

Concernant les îles mon but premier n’est pas les fonds marins mais le repos et la baignade dans des eaux cristallines à l’écart Du tourisme de masse et des fêtards.

Voilà pouvez vous m’aiguiller De sorte que j’optimise Les déplacements intérieurs . Dans quel sens dois je programmer ce circuit pour perdre le moins de temps dans les transports ?

Arrival – 2 nights in Bangkok (any hotel recommendations? Very quiet, near Chinatown or by the river)

Train or taxi (which app should I use for Thailand?) to Phetchaburi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations?)

Daytime train to Surat Thani – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Pick up the rental car and head to Khao Sok – 1 night there (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Ko Kho Khao – 3 nights – relaxation (any hotel recommendations?)

Drive to Phang Nga Bay – 1 night (any base recommendations?)

Excursion in the bay, then drive to Krabi – 2 nights (any hotel recommendations) or any other spot with beautiful, quiet beaches that you might know?

Return to Surat Thani – overnight train to Bangkok, then Ayutthaya (any hotel recommendations?)

Visit the site and transfer to the airport – sniff, time to head back!

If you have other suggestions, keeping in mind the trip’s vibe: beach time without crowds or entertainment, a bit of nature, a bit of culture, no stress... No domestic flights and charming accommodations (not at 150 € per night, even though the budget is reasonable!)

Not sure I’ll follow them all, but all your ideas are welcome! 😉

Hi, just a quick note mainly for Samsong, even if he’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’ve been in Nan since yesterday and... I love it! So thanks, Thierry. It’s exactly the kind of place I’d been dreaming of... Even if communication is a bit tough, it’s not impossible. They don’t even know the most basic English words! Everyone laughs and they’re the first to pull out their phones to... translate. They’re even quicker on the uptake than I am. And then there’s the time I say Nan (pronounced "Nane"). They don’t understand me. After a while (sometimes a long one), they reply: "Ah, Nan?" (pronounced "Nane") 😵🤳😃

The town is exactly how you described it back in 2022. Though I’m surprised to find so many trendy, slightly intellectual "Cafés." Apparently, coffee—excellent everywhere—is king in Nan. It feels like a university town. And it seems pretty lively at night! But for now, I’m going to bed early. I caught a nasty cold, which didn’t stop me from walking 12 km this morning. But I came back to my accommodation by 3 PM (gorgeous and luxurious with top-notch service for 800 baht—even a cute local welcome gift this morning, plus other unexpected touches like a bottle of honey and chrysanthemum flowers for tea. The lady must’ve guessed I was coming down with something yesterday). I thought about going out for dinner but didn’t have the energy. I think I’ve got at least 39°C fever...

Anyway, I’m sending you this message, Thierry, because you mentioned a daily bus to Chiang Rai, so I didn’t look into it. But now it’s a real problem—no buses to Chiang Rai, only taxis. At least 2,500 baht for the cheapest one! I’ll check the bus station directly tomorrow. Online, it’s all taxis, no buses. I’d like to explore the countryside/mountains if I can find an affordable driver. Any ideas for destinations or itineraries? Thanks.

Bonjour, Nous souhaitons partir à 4 visiter la Thaïlande et je souhaite être aidée à la création de mon itinéraire. J'ai sélectionné plusieurs sites et j'aimerai savoir si cela en vaut le peine vu que nous serons 15 jours dans le pays (sans le voyage).

Je suis ouverte à d'autres propositions de circuit. Voici mes étapes Pour un séjour de 2 semaines sur place Arrivée à Bangkok le dimanche 1er février à 15h00 retour jeudi 20 février à 12h30.

La première semaine:Bangkok 2 jours, Ganesha Park 1J, les parcs historiques d’Ayutthaya 2J, et de Sukhothai 2J ainsi que la visite de Chiang Mai 3J dans le Nord et Chiang Rai (si on a le temps). Je recherche aussi un monastère pour séjourner une nuit.

La deuxième semaine : Les îles du Sud Koh Lanta 3 jours et une autre île (à définir).

Je devrai aussi trouver les modes de transport et l'hébergement. Connaissez vous ces étapes ? Qu'en pensez vous ? Avez vous des tuyaux ?

Nous n'avons pas l'habitude de voyager et votre soutien nous est précieux. Je vous remercie par avance de votre aide.

Hello, After a lot of searching, exchanging ideas, and thinking it over, I’ve decided to go back to my original plan of spending two weeks in Bangkok. From January 19th to February 2nd. I’ll also take a quick trip for one night/two days to Ayutthaya (and return to Bangkok, where I’ll have kept the apartment I booked), and possibly the same for Kanchanaburi, depending on how I feel once I’m there—whether I find something more interesting in Bangkok or nearby. The key word is: taking my time to take photos, observe, taste, savor (in every sense of the word), and most importantly, not rushing. Beyond the must-see tourist spots, I’d love to wander around the city and maybe within a 40 to 50 km radius for a day trip to discover unusual and lesser-known streets, houses, temples, markets, gardens, and more. I’ll also be spending two weeks in Chiang Mai and two weeks in Nan. I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you so much!

Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

I’m now considering Thailand, a destination we never included in our plans because even 15 years ago, people said it was too touristy. Still, I’m thinking about the itinerary below, but I don’t feel up to arranging buses, trains, or guides on my own while I’m there. I’m looking for one or more drivers and have been in touch with an agency, but their offers are just copy-paste group tours that I don’t want. So, if you have any contacts, experiences, or advice, I’d be so grateful if you’d share them with me. Here’s my rough plan: Arrival in Bangkok Ayutthaya (2 nights) Kanchanaburi (2 or 3 nights) Sangkhlaburi/Sai Yok (3 nights) Sukhothai (2 nights) Lampang (I’ve planned 3 nights, but that might be a bit much—it depends on what time I arrive in the city) Chiang Mai Chiang Dao Pai Chiang Rai I was thinking about the Mae Hong Son loop—thoughts? What do you think about staying overnight at the Golden Triangle? When I look online, of course, I can find agencies that organize tours to national parks, etc. I’m retired but in great physical shape. I’d rather go hiking than sit in hot springs with crowds of tourists who’ve all arranged meet-ups. I don’t want to spend a day at an elephant camp, and I don’t want to visit Karen villages. Suite à un premier message posté en décembre et vos précieux avis et conseils (notamment Jungletroll ! merci), j'ai revu notre itinéraire pour le simplifier un peu car premier voyage en Asie...

Je pense également laisser tomber l'idée de louer une voiture de location 🤪 mais plutôt voyager avec un chauffeur privé (sauf Koh Phanga) pour plus de confort et sécurité .... Donc la question est comment organiser cela ? Par une agence ? Connaissez vous Evaneos que je viens de découvrir et qui semble organiser tout sur mesure avec des agents sur place... Je ne me sens pas vraiment capable de tout organiser par moi même et je n'aime pas partir à l'aventure...

Alors voici le nouvel itinéraire prévu sur janvier / février 2021 (avec des dates à la limite "décalable" d'une semaine plus tôt) - Samedi 16/01 : Vol Lyon Dubai (Emirates) - Dimanche 17 et lundi 18/01 : escale Dubai puis vol le 18/01 au soir - Mardi 19/01 : Arrivée aéroport Bangkok le matin - Transfert à Kanchanaburi. au passage : Wat Tham Suea. Fin de journée découverte de la ville et repos - Mercredi 20/01 : Départ pour Sai Yok, arrêt au viaduc de Wang Pho, grotte de Krasae (?) et si possible installation au Krit House au pied de Sai Yok Hai et Lek Waterfal. Fin de journée sur place Jeudi 21/01 : matin Hin Bad Hot Spring ? et route vers Erawan OU monter jusqu'à Sangkhla Buri puis retour à Erawan (mais beaucoup de route il me semble) Vendredi 22/01 : Visite des cascades Erawan le matin et route vers Amphawa pour 2 nuits (si possible installation au bord du Mae Klong pas trop loin du marché flottant. Samedi 23/01 : marché sur les rails de Mae Klong le matin et après-midi, et soirée sur Amphawa Dimanche 24/01 : Départ en direction de Prachuap KK. 3 jours pour visiter cette partie : l'objectif est de prendre un bateau de Chumpon à Koh Phanga le mercredi 27/01 (possiblité via Lomprayah d'un catamaran de Tung Makham à Koh Phanga pour 30 €/pers environ) Sur cette côte, nous voudrions visiter : Sam Roi Yot ( Bang Pu, Grotte de Phraya Nakhon...) , Prachuap KK (Khan Kra Dai Cave, Ao Manao Bay Beach et les singes langurs), Bang Saphan : Phra Mahathat Chedi Phakdee Prakat...

Arrivée mercredi 27/01 à Koh Phanga pour 4 nuits / pas encore regardé ce que nous pouvons organiser sur l'île mais un peu de farniente... jeudi 28 - vendredi 29 et samedi 30/01 : Koh Phangan...Bon je viens de voir qu'il y a une full moon party le 28/01/21 alors que c'est pas du tout ce qui nous intéresse mais je suppose que c'est pas trop génant pour une soirée...

Dimanche 31/01 - Transfert sur Surat Thani et Phang Nga / nuit directement sur ce secteur pour faire une excursion privée dans la baie le lendemain assez tôt pour éviter la foule ! Donc lundi 01/02 : baie de Phang na et installation en fin de journée sur Krabi / Ao Nang ou ailleurs... Installation pour 5 nuits : du mardi au vendredi, visite du secteur Samedi 06/02 : Transfert pour l'aeroport de Phuket et vol retour

Voilà, voilà, en gros avec certains endroits plus détaillés que d'autres en fonction de mes recherches.... La question se pose sur la fin du séjour, après Koh Phangan : chauffeur ou location de voiture car moins de route donc peut-être faisable... D'autre part, comment ça se passe avec un chauffeur privé ? Est-il en mesure de nous emmener voir des endroits auxquels nous n'avons pas forcément connaissance ? Sans être vraiment un guide, va-t-il quand même être en mesure de nous donner quelques infos essentiels ? Nous n'avons pas du tout l'habitude de ce mode de déplacement et avons peu de connaissance sur la culture et les habitudes de la Thailande (mis à part les mises en garde sur la façon de conduire, lol !)

Avez-vous des adresses à nous indiquer qui pourrait nous organiser cet itinéraire ? : je voudrais juste réserver les vols internationaux, voire les hébergements moi-même, mais c'est la partie, tranferts, déplacements, visite qui me posent énormément d'interrogation..

We have the opportunity to get away for a little two-week trip at the very beginning of January, just the two of us, without our kids. Because of the kids, we haven’t traveled much in Asia, so we’d love to take advantage of their absence to explore Thailand. Even though I’m used to planning our trips, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed this time.

We’d like to visit Bangkok and head south by renting a car (we have an international driver’s license, and my husband has driven on the left before). I’ve managed to sketch out a rough itinerary that might work for us, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

To set the scene: we haven’t booked anything yet, we don’t like spending hours on the beach (though a little time at the end of the day is fine), we love walking and sightseeing, and what we enjoy most is being independent (so if we can avoid group tours, that’s ideal).

After that intro, here’s the rough outline of our itinerary: Day 0: Paris-Bangkok flight Days 1, 2, and 3: Bangkok (Wat Pho, Grand Palace, Wat Arun, markets, boat ride through the khlongs, Jim Thompson House) Day 4: Ayutthaya Day 5: Pick up a rental car and head to Sam Roi Yot Day 6: Sam Roi Yot and Prachuap Khiri Khan Day 7: Drive south – overnight near Surat Thani Day 8: Uthayan Tham Khao Na Nai, then drive to Ao Nang (staying near Tubkaek) Days 9 and 10: Boat trips (Railay, Ko Hong, etc.) Day 11: Drive to Phang Nga with a few stops along the way Day 12: Boat tour (mangroves and Ko Tapu) Day 13: Drive to Phuket Airport and return flight

A few questions and doubts: - I’d considered Cheow Lan Lake but read some not-so-great reviews (crowds, just 3 viewpoints, and the rest was meh). What do you think? - Can we start from Ao Thalane Pier for trips to Ko Hong and Ko Tapu? - I’m not thrilled about driving through Bangkok, but I’m not sure where to rent a car west of the city (since we won’t return it to the same place, I assume it’s best to target rental companies at airports).

I'm "finalizing" a trip with my adventurous family (wife + 3 kids aged 16, 14, and 8) for this Easter break in Thailand (we'll be there from 04/19 to 05/01).

I'm going through the site and wanted to thank you all for the tips and insights you share on the forum. They're really valuable. But boy, it's tough to sketch out an itinerary

Of course, my backpacking route might be debatable, but I'm trying to target this path to get a first taste of the country's different "facets" and keep everyone in the family happy 😛

For this first trip, we're sticking to the classics and planning to explore a different side of the Land of Smiles in the future:

- arrival in BKK at 4 PM on 04/19 ==> leaving the same day at 7 PM for Chiang Mai (I "hesitated" with the 5:30 PM flight but was worried we wouldn't have enough time to switch from British AW to Thai Airways + airport fees + baggage + customs, etc. )

- from 04/20 to 04/23 ==> Chiang Mai with the main highlights (we've picked: Doi Suthep, Wat Pha Lat, elephant sanctuary, Doi Inthanon, the old city, Wat Chedi, Wat Phra Singh).

==> For the elephant sanctuary: any recommendations? Morning or afternoon visit?

==> It might seem ambitious, but we're considering a day trip to Chiang Rai—though it's not a must. Yes, we know it means ~6 hours of travel in one day.

- direct flight on the morning of 04/24 to Krabi ==> Railay - Phang Nga ==> this part isn't finalized yet (we won't stay in Krabi).

For those who've been there, which part of the south would be best weather-wise during this period?

We'd stay in the south until 04/28 and take a 8 PM flight to BKK.

- BKK on 04/29, 04/30, and part of 05/01 before our flight to London at 11 PM.

We'll hit the must-see/classic spots there.

If you have time to share some insights, I'd really appreciate it.

Hey everyone, We're currently in Thailand. I'm opening this thread to share practical info for those planning their trip. As for impressions and feelings—I love it, but I'll let everyone form their own opinions. The goal here is more about: how to do this or that, how to get there, etc.

Bonjour, Nous partons à 2 en Thaïlande en janvier 2020 pour un mois, et j'envisage de partager mon séjour en : 2/3 en Issan et 1/3 de plage. Et j'aurai besoin de vos conseils et avis. Nous sommes allés souvent en Thaïlande, mais jamais en janvier....

-En arrivant à Bangkok de France, j'ai déjà réservé un vol Bangkok/ Loeï afin de rejoindre Chiang Khan le même jour. Je compte rester 5 nuits à Chiang Khan, est ce que c'est correct ou est ce que ce n'est pas trop long ? Y-a-t-il des balades aux alentours( à pied ou en scooter)

-Par la suite je prévois de rejoindre Nong Khaï( que je connais déjà) par la route en longeant le Mékong. Est ce que le transport est facile entre Chiang Khan et Nong Khaï? Bus ? Mini van ? Combien de temps de transport en moyenne ?Est ce que ça vaut le coup de faire une halte d'une nuit quelque part entre ces 2 villes ?

-De Nong Khaï, je veux aller et loger à Bueng Khan pour être assez proche du Wat Phu Tuk. Même question que précédemment...Est ce que les moyens de transport sont faciles et fréquents entre ces 2 villes et combien de temps.. ? Pour rejoindre le site du Wat Phu Tuk je suppose qu'il faut passer par une agence ou un guide ? Doit-on prendre obligatoirement un taxi ?

-De Bueng Khan je prévois de rejoindre Udon Thani en bus ou mini van, Est ce faisable ? J'ai lu qu'il fallait environ 3heures... ? A Udon Thani, est ce que le lac aux lotus rouges vaut le déplacement ? Car j'ai vu qu'il n'est pas tout près.

-D'Udon Thani je voulais aller directement vers Krabi par avion, mais il n'y a que le vol vers Phuket qui arrive à 19h. Donc je dois obligatoirement dormir à Phuket. Quel endroit est le mieux pour passer une nuit afin de rejoindre facilement Ko Lanta par le ferry ? J'ai vu qu'il avait plusieurs compagnies, donc quel ferry est le mieux ? Ou bien vaut-il mieux rejoindre Krabi plutôt que Kho Lanta? Ou rester quelques jours sur Phuket... ?

J'ai lu pas mal d'avis mais je suis encore très indécis pour ces destinations plages de Phuket, Krabi, Kho Lanta et quel serait le meilleur «circuit» sur 10 jours, en arrivant par l'aéroport de Phuket et en repartant de Krabi en sachant que je ne veux pas speeder?

J'avais l'habitude de voyager en Thaïlande en juillet, et pour ceux qui connaissent, ma plage préférée pour juillet , était Thong Nai Pan Noï à Kho Phangan, mais c'est la première fois que je voyage en janvier et donc je ne connais pas du tout Phuket ou Krabi. Est ce qu'il est intéressant de rester quelques jours sur Phuket et si oui, quelle plage.... ? Hors Patong ou Kata... et surtout pas pour faire la fête mais un endroit cool( j'ai compris que janvier était la haute saison.....). J'ai entendu parler de Railey ? Freedom beach ? ou d'autres?

Et pour Kho Lanta et Krabi quel est votre plage préférée....?( qui ressemblerait à Tong Naï Pan Noï...!lol).

Our flights are booked, and we’ll arrive in Thailand at the beginning of January.

Originally, we were supposed to spend 14 days there. But after booking the flights and seeing the prices, we’ll now be there for 20 days instead.

Our initial plan was: 2 days in Bangkok 1 day in Ayutthaya 4 days in Chiang Mai 6 days around Krabi

So we have 7 more days to fill. What do you recommend?

An extra day in Bangkok? Adding more days in the north? If so, where? Exploring another region, like Kanchanaburi or Cheow Lan Lake? Traveling north in stages instead of taking the overnight train?

A few extra details about us: For us, vacation isn’t about relaxation—we love walking, exploring, and packed days don’t bother us. Hiking for hours and doing active things is what makes us happy. That said, we also enjoy visiting villages and towns if they’re worth the detour. In Thailand, we’d like to visit temples too. We’re early risers, so our days tend to be long. 🙂 In short, we like to keep things moving during our trips. 😉

Unfortunately, seeing terraced rice fields isn’t possible in January. I read there are rice fields around Sukhothai. Are they green in January?

In the north, do you recommend Doi Inthanon, Huai Nam Dang, or Doi Chiang Dao National Parks? Which one is the most beautiful and best for January?

Hi, I’d been told it was between 2,000 and 2,500 THB per day. 3,000 THB for Doi Inthanon... The driver I found gave me different prices depending on my destinations: 5,000 THB for the waterfalls in Doi Inthanon National Park, which I negotiated down to 4,000. Then 2,000 for Lamphun, 3,000 for another day, and two times 3,500 for two other itineraries I showed him. In total, 16,000 THB, which I negotiated down to 14,000. I’m wondering if I overpaid... Since I’m planning two more outings, I’d like to have a solid baseline for negotiating...

I’m right in the middle of peak season, and everything’s gone up considerably in Thailand. So I don’t want to put my foot in it by pointing out he might’ve overcharged me if that’s not the case... Thanks

Mais Avec ma nouvelle sim thailansaise puis je appeler et envoyer Sms en France sans surcoût pour moi et mes contacts ? Je ne pourrais pas me servir de ma carte sim orange pour emettre des appels mais puis je recevoir des appels et Sms ? Si oui avec surcoût pour moi et mon appelant ?
