Just a quick question—I wanted to know, excluding accommodation and flight tickets, just for leisure activities and food on the spot, I go out a lot so I’d like to know what the costs are for a budget that includes some outings, drinks, eating (local food), and a few massages (local massages). Could those of you who know share some prices, please? Do you think a budget of 100 € per day is reasonable? I’ve read in some places that it’s more than enough, and in others that it’s really tight 😕 I hope I won’t have to watch every penny 😅 I’m staying for two months, from May 27th to the end of July.

On trouve très facilement pléthores de sociétés de transport qui couvre de Sukhotai à Hua Hin, c'est un peu plus compliqué pour le Nord.

Perso un type Toyota Fortuner/Innova irait très bien, nous sommes 4 et trois valises. Pas besoin d'un minibus pour 4 personnes. C'est le type utilisé l'année dernière et qui nous a parfaitement convenu et c'était évidemment une compagnie thaï avec conducteur itou.

Il reste également la solution "au jour le jour" selon l'hébergeur mais j'aime bien être au clair sur les logements/déplacements avant mon départ et me laisser porter par le vent sur place pour les activités/visites, c'est un choix...

Our next trip to Thailand is coming up, and we just can't wait! We talk, eat, drink, and dream Thailand 😏

Our itinerary is mostly set, and we’ve found quite a few new things to explore, but I’d still love to hear your recommendations for Bangkok. Just so you know: we love this city, and every time we visit, we spend several days there without ever feeling like we’ve seen it all. So this year, we’re staying for 8 days! Here’s what we have planned this year: * Exploring Nonthaburi * A day trip to Nakhon Pathom (to test out our basic Thai skills 😛) * Khlong Lat Mayom floating market (we went 10 years ago—it’s probably changed a lot!) * The Erawan Museum (we visited Muang Boran on our last trip) * Finally taking the time to check out Wat Phra Sri Maha Mariamman and Wat Yannawa (we’ve planned to go several times but never made it—are they worth a visit?)

This is what we’ve picked so far, but I’d love to hear about the favorite spots and recommendations from travelers who, like us, adore Bangkok.

Hi, I’d been told it was between 2,000 and 2,500 THB per day. 3,000 THB for Doi Inthanon... The driver I found gave me different prices depending on my destinations: 5,000 THB for the waterfalls in Doi Inthanon National Park, which I negotiated down to 4,000. Then 2,000 for Lamphun, 3,000 for another day, and two times 3,500 for two other itineraries I showed him. In total, 16,000 THB, which I negotiated down to 14,000. I’m wondering if I overpaid... Since I’m planning two more outings, I’d like to have a solid baseline for negotiating...

Even though I don’t practice anymore, I have a Buddhist altar at home that’s becoming increasingly ecumenical—just like in India, it includes Ganesha, the Holy Family, a Virgin of Lourdes, several Shivas, Tara, Avalokiteshvara, and more... I was hoping to buy a beautiful wooden, stone, or metal Buddha statue in Thailand. On top of that, I wanted to have my statue "blessed." But then I heard it’s forbidden to take any statue or representation of Buddha out of the country... What’s the reality in practice? Hi, I’m really interested in the "SUPREME bus" and especially the "Wiang Ping Super VIP Class Bus" with Sombat Tour for traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. But you can only book through their website, and it’s entirely in Thai. No agency allows booking for these buses from this company either. I haven’t found any way to make a reservation for either of these two buses... Has anyone traveled from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on one of these buses? Thanks so much

So happy to see that VoyageForum is back up! We're planning a trip to Thailand in October 2025. We're looking for quiet islands with nature/jungle, beaches, and pretty villages (no party scene!). We'll be traveling with our 5-year-old son. I've done some research and found a few islands that seem to fit our criteria. We're torn between the islands on the Gulf side (Koh Chang, Koh Mak, Koh Kood) and the Andaman Sea islands (Koh Yao Noi, Koh Yao Yai). What are your tips? Any area to prefer in October? We (5 adults and 1 child) want to travel from Battambang to Chanthaburi via the Ban Pakkad border crossing. I’d like to know what transport options are available (bus, taxi, songthaew). Are there any direct buses from Battambang to Pailin (I haven’t found any) or from the Thai border to Chanthaburi? If you know of any taxi companies that might cover these routes, I’d really appreciate the info.

Je réponds un peu tard, mais cela pourra peut-être aider d’autres personnes qui cherchent des joncs bouddhistes Kumlaï en Thaïlande.

À Bangkok, on n’en trouve pas forcément facilement autour des temples. Il existe des vendeurs dans certaines zones touristiques, marchés ou boutiques locales, mais tous les modèles ne se valent pas forcément.

Si cela peut aider, il existe aussi des boutiques spécialisées en ligne comme Bâan Kumlaï, qui proposent des joncs bouddhistes thaïlandais fabriqués en Thaïlande, je crois qu'ils livrent dans le monde entier! Belle journée 🙂

Hi there, I'm looking for a way to unwind and planning a trip to Southeast Asia starting in Thailand with a stop in Bangkok. To shake off the stress, I'd love to treat myself to a massage at Wat Pho. But while researching, I read somewhere (on a temple page I can't find anymore) that they offer massages with CBD among other things. Hmm... why not, I'm up for almost anything to feel better. 😐

That said, I've also heard that recreational cannabis use is still illegal in Thailand. Even though CBD isn't exactly cannabis and it's supposedly "therapeutic," is there a risk of a "misunderstanding" with police waiting for me after my massage session, especially if my body smells a bit... distinctive? 🤪

For the past two months, I’ve been checking flight ticket prices to spend 4.5 weeks in Thailand from early July to early August. I’m traveling from Brussels with a young child, so I want to avoid layovers. That’s why I’m only looking at Thai Airways’ website and only choosing direct flights.

At the end of August, I saw tickets for 955 € per person. On October 1st, they were 1,225 €. Today (October 22nd), the price is the same as on October 1st. (Same dates: Departure: July 4th, Return: August 7th.)

My question is: Is it possible these prices will drop significantly in the coming months?

Note: I clear my browser cache before every search, which I always do during the week and in the evening. This time, I also checked with my work computer, which has a VPN. So, the price isn’t influenced by cookies.

I’ve got a question about buses, which we love using in Bangkok, but it’s always a bit of a challenge to figure out how to get around. We always (eventually) reach our destination because there’s always someone willing to help us find our way, but this year, I’d like us to be a bit more independent. We’re a bit old-school—we like traveling without phones for a real digital detox (no judgment, everyone travels how they like! :) ), so ideally, we’d find an up-to-date map of Bangkok’s bus network, but we don’t know where to buy one... We managed to get one back in 2015, but I think it’s outdated now, and during our last trips, we couldn’t find any...

And if traveling like this is really outdated, could you recommend a reliable app for buses? That way, we could plan our routes using the hotel’s Wi-Fi before heading out.

Hi there. I wanted to check and asked Krungsri Bank if they offered a cash advance at the counter to avoid Thai ATM withdrawal fees. They told me yes, but only up to 200 baht. No, I didn’t forget a zero—it’s not even 6 €... That doesn’t get you very far.

Can anyone confirm this info, or are there banks that offer a larger cash advance? Krungsri is the only bank that does currency exchange in the town where I’m currently staying in Thailand.

Hi, I’m heading to Thailand (first time!) in a week. We planned to be in Khao Sok National Park on February 1st and 2nd. I got a message yesterday saying it wouldn’t be possible to do any activities on Lake Chiew Lan as planned because of “weather conditions.” Despite all my research, I can’t find any info that supports this. Does anyone have recent updates? Is it really impossible to visit the lake, and if so, are there any alternatives? They’re offering a walk to Bang Hua Rad waterfall instead. Any thoughts? We’re really disappointed—the lake looked amazing 😢

Hello, After a lot of searching, exchanging ideas, and thinking it over, I’ve decided to go back to my original plan of spending two weeks in Bangkok. From January 19th to February 2nd. I’ll also take a quick trip for one night/two days to Ayutthaya (and return to Bangkok, where I’ll have kept the apartment I booked), and possibly the same for Kanchanaburi, depending on how I feel once I’m there—whether I find something more interesting in Bangkok or nearby. The key word is: taking my time to take photos, observe, taste, savor (in every sense of the word), and most importantly, not rushing. Beyond the must-see tourist spots, I’d love to wander around the city and maybe within a 40 to 50 km radius for a day trip to discover unusual and lesser-known streets, houses, temples, markets, gardens, and more. I’ll also be spending two weeks in Chiang Mai and two weeks in Nan. I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you so much!

1. Mon premier message visait justement à trouver un prestataire de transport pour le nord du pays...et la réponse proposée c'est "faite appel à une société de transport"... remarquez l'émoticône ironique...

2. J'explique aussi avoir fait, en famille, nos transferts l'année passée en type Fortuner et que cela nous a tout a fait convenu...c'est un choix qui ne demande pas à être commenté...Je trouve qu'être 4 personnes dans un van privatisé pour 9-12 est une aberration mais ce n'est que notre avis...

3. J'ai toujours eu en haute estime les personnes répondant de façon désintéressées et de façon très complète sur les forums de voyage. Elles m'ont, ici et ailleurs, aidées de façon plus que judicieuse à préparer notre premier voyage.

Pour Songsam : Non, ces trois trajets sont espacés dans le temps, nous restons env. 2-3 nuits dans chaque destination, sauf Chiang-Mai ou nous prolongeons. Je suis en attente de quelques réponses. Si jamais ces offres ne sont pas concluantes, je partirai avec mon prestataire habituel avec lequel tout c'est très bien passé en 2025.

Les suggestions qui me viennent à l'esprit ne sont pas vraiment nouvelles puisque l'une est Sri Chiangmai sur la route 211 en Issan ( 17°57'26.58"N 102°34'19.43"E ) sur le Mékhong et l'autre est Tha Song Yang* sur la route 105 sur la rivière Moei qui fait frontière avec le Myanmar ( 17°13'28.31"N 98°13'39.90"E ), 2 secteurs dont on avait déjà parlé lors de tes précédents préparatifs.

* à ne pas confondre avec BAN Tha Song Yang située sur la même route, très sympa aussi mais pas d'hébergements et pas de certitude qu'on y trouve un hôpital.

Accès à SCM par 2 bus quotidiens directs (dont un nocturne) a/c1 au départ de Bkk Motchit, 12h de trajet Accès à TSY par plusieurs bus quotidiens de a/c1 à VIP diurnes et nocturnes de Bkk Motchit jusqu'à Mae Sot (9h de trajet) puis 2h de songthéo toutes les 20mn pour TSY.

Il y a juste à ajouter deux (trois) personnages que je n'ai plus envie de voir tous les 5m.
