Hi there, Who could recommend a reliable agency for visiting several islands, including the parks around Komodo? I’m traveling solo as a woman. Thanks for your great tips!

Hello,

Try this one—this agency’s been around for over 20 years: info@balipassion.fr

Hi Marie-Noelle, I’ve been to Indonesia several times over the past 30 years, always with a partner. Some of the agencies I used no longer exist, but the last one I tried was for a month in North Sulawesi and the small islands nearby. I went through Bali Autrement, which is part of the "Un Voyage Autrement" group, focusing exclusively on 8 Asian countries. We were really happy with their services—the guide’s availability and, most importantly, their flexibility in adapting to situations we encountered (a wedding, a death anniversary ceremony, an exceptional fair, etc.). They adjusted the daily itinerary based on what we enjoyed, always in consultation with us. Have a great trip!

Good evening Éric. This agency looks interesting. Thanks for the info. I’ll contact them too. I found a nice project on Terre Aventures. I’ll be able to compare! The agency’s reliability and flexibility are important. I just got back from Kerala where my driver wasn’t very clear and didn’t go beyond the program. Thanks again for the info.

Good evening Marie-Noelle, Actually, in some countries like India, a driver/guide is provided, and in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, I had the same issue. Sometimes, at an interesting site, I’d hire a local guide for the visit, and I found the information more complete than what I’d received before the driver/guide stopped. In 2024 in Rajasthan, the same setup applied, but the person was very competent and available. I hope you find someone who meets your expectations perfectly. Have a great evening.

Good evening Éric. Yes, my driver in Kerala - Tamil Nadu wasn’t very talkative. His English was mediocre, so he gave me his business card for next time so I could book him directly. But for the ride back to the airport, I had a Hindu driver who was more open. I think I’ll choose him if I return to the area. Have a great evening!

Hey Heremoana,

Honestly, you're right to ask the question because traveling solo as a woman in Indonesia means you really can't afford to pick the wrong agency. I’ve got friends who’ve had a rough time with dodgy providers—like guys who stick you with a creepy guide or change the program without warning.

So, personally, I’ve seen a lot of positive feedback about small local agencies based in Flores itself, rather than the big online operators. It’s silly, but you’re better off contacting small tour operators directly in Labuan Bajo. From what I remember, there are a few things to check: that they’re recognized by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, that their Google/TripAdvisor reviews are genuinely varied (not all 5 stars—that’s suspicious), and most importantly, that the guide is certified for Komodo.

Prices range between 800 and 1500 € for 4-5 days including the park, but honestly, the cheapest ones can be risky in terms of equipment. I’ve got a friend who nearly capsized with a 600 € agency... avoid those.

Seriously, watch out for agencies that promise too much: fewer islands but better quality is the best deal. Also, ask for references from women traveling solo—guys won’t tell you the same things. The parks around Komodo are stunning, but they’re not a playground. You really need a team that knows what they’re doing.

Thanks for your message, Florian! In the end, I joined a group from France for 18 days—Terres d’Aventures—then I’ll travel solo for 12 days.... The trickiest part will be with the group... Have a great week.
