J'ai eu l'opportunité de partir à deux reprises avec un organisme linguistique (il s'agit de EF, Education First). En 2010 à San Francisco pendant 6 semaines, puis à Honolulu en 2011 pendant 3 semaines (si j'avais eu l'occasion d'y rester 6 mois, j'aurais été ravi..). J'ai été hébergé en famille d'accueil à SF (une formidable expérience) et en résidence étudiante EF à Honolulu (une très belle expérience aussi!). Pour la destination d'Honolulu et si tu choisis EF comme organisme pour préparer cette belle expérience à l'international, je te conseille de choisir la résidence car elle se situe juste en face de l'école! Tu n'as à peine que 50 mètres à faire pour aller en cours! Le FUN!
Pour déterminer ton niveau d'anglais, un test de niveau de langue sera à effectuer avant ton départ ou alors juste à ton arrivée sur place pour faire des classes de niveaux; un autre test de fin de séjour aura lieu pour voir ta nette progression! Ensuite, des plannings hebdomadaires sont réalisés pour chacun des étudiants - ils sont alternés pour être équitables - en demi-journées, soit le matin, soit l'après-midi pour que chacun profite de sa matinée ou de son après-midi pour organiser ses temps libres! Concernant les types de cours, tu as le choix entre "Principal" ou "Intensif" ou encore "Préparation aux examens" (celui de Cambridge notamment).
Sur la destination d'Honolulu, tu as donc la plage de Waikiki avec farniente, baignade, surf, shopping (Ala Mohana Center, ..), promenades, visites de la ville et des parcs naturels conservés.. Tu peux aussi aller visiter les autres îles (Big Island, Maui..), faire du shark-diving (plongée en cage pour voir les requins), sky-diving (saut en parachute).. Les activités sont vraiment nombreuses.. et les paysages tout simplement sublimes!
Et les endroits pour passer de belles soirées sont aussi nombreux (night-clubs, bars..)!!
Concernant la destination de San Francisco, les activités proposées par EF sont nombreuses; il peut s'agir de sorties dans des parcs d'attractions (Six Flags.. il est énorme!), la visite de la très célèbre prison d'Alcatraz, la visite de la ville (car il y a tellement de choses à voir!) ou des parcs protégés environnant. Des activités aquatiques sont aussi possibles. EF obtient aussi des tarifs (très) avantageux pour partir le temps d'un week-end à la découverte de Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Park de Yellowstone.. Les possibilités sont nombreuses :)

>Je ne recommande pas la famille d'accueil aux jeunes adultes. Tu seras beaucoup plus loin de la ville (et non près de celle-ci).
De plus à ton âge on préfère être indépendant, et ta famille d'accueil ne te traitera pas comme si tu étais un ado. Tu seras un peu
comme dans un bed and breakfast. Les jeunes adultes que je connais soit ont regretté d'être en famille soit étaient bien contents
d'avoir choisi la résidence. Je répète, étant un adulte, tu ne seras pas traité comme un "enfant" de la famille, mais comme un hôte payant. Ceci dit,
les familles américains sont généralement très accueillantes et sympa, les maisons confortables. Mais elles ne sont pas là pour te distraire ou s'occuper de toi.
Pour la wi-fi renseigne-toi (internet, ainsi que le tél portable, sont beaucoup plus chers aux US qu'en France. Comme quoi la concurrence
ne fait pas tout, chez nous il y a moins d'opérateurs mais les tarifs sont généralement plus intéressants.)

Les cours sont basés sur l'expression personnelle, orale comme écrite (beaucoup d'oral, des présentations, etc). C'est très interactif, en petit groupe, rien à voir avec
les cours habituels au lycée. Tu as quelques heures de cours par jour (matinéee + début d'après-midi), après tu es libre.

Non. Mais évidemment ça dépend où tu vas et à quelle heure, si tu es seul ou avec d'autres, etc. C'est une métropole, tu dois prendre
les précautions d'usage et éviter les pratiques illégales qui te mettraient en contact avec des personnes et des lieux potentiellement risqués.
