Je ne sais plus ( ma memoire a des fuites ) si j en ai deja parlé ici, mais au sujet du train des nuages de Salta, je le deconseille fortement .
Uniquement pour des raisons de securite.
La voie, le train et les services de ventes de billet appartiennent a des societes differentes.....aucun entretien de la ligne, le systeme est poussé a bout ! Chaque societe rejete a l autre la responsabilite de l entretien de la ligne ...et pendant ce temps la rien n'est fait ..... le train continue a passer.....
Dans 1 jour, 1 semaine, 1 mois, 1 an ou 10 ans, on apprendra que le train sera tombe d un pont ou d un precipice avec 1000 personnes a bord ...... tout le monde le regrettera, des tetes tomberont et chacun trouvera une responsabilite sur l autre . On parlera d accident, de fatalite ..etc...
En tout cas depuis samedi dernier, vous n avez plus le choix : Le service du train des nuages est suspendu ( pour une periode inconnue ) ....ne le regrettez pas, ca vous a peut etre sauvé la vie !
Pour "raison de securite", depuis samedi dernier, le gouvernement provincial de Salta a suspendu le service . Mais ne croyez pas pour autant que le probleme va etre regle......quelques coimas payées par ci par la, et le train va reprendre dans quelques semaines !
En tout cas ........lorsque L accident surviendra, il y en aura toujours qui prendront des tetes d "etonnes " au secretariat du tourisme a Salta .
... D'autant plus que faire le trajet Salta-San Antonio de los Cobres-Salta dans la même journée et en empruntant le même chemin c'est un peu frustrant. Je conseille à ceux qui veulent faire un tour sur la puna de louer une voiture un ou deux jour à Salta (Ahhh, la nuit à San Antonio...) ou bien de faire un tour en voiture avec une agence... Dans tous les cas ça vous coûtera moins cher que le train et vous emprunterez (une fois seulement) quasiment le même trajet que lui.

Tout à fait d'accord, autant faire le même trajet que le train en voiture. Nous on était dans un joli 4x4 avec un guide excellent sur 2 jours. On a passé la nuit à Purmamarca et déjeuner à San Antonio de las Cobres...D'ailleurs je me demande bien ou tu as pu dormir dans ce bled !!! Ce devait être "fantomatique", Nous deux heures et on a croisé un groupe de musicien pour touristes et basta ( bon ok, complétement hors saison !!) Mais l'altiplano....whaou !
Quoi qu'il en soit le coin est vraiment splendide, Purmamarca ( pas beaucoup plus d'animation outre le petit marché de la place ) est vraiment innoubliable niveau paysage et cette région aussi.
Il est clair que le train n'avait pas l'air très sûr. Et au moins en voiture tu t'arrete où tu veux, quand tu veux. Le train, lui, ne s'arrette que si il est en panne !!
D'ailleurs je me demande bien ou tu as pu dormir dans ce bled !!! Ce devait être "fantomatique
J'ai passé une très courte nuit chez l'habitant avant de partir grimper en haut du Nevado de Acay. C'était très sympa malgré le froid. On a même réussi à avaler un vrai petit déjeuner (à 3h du mat') dans l'espèce de cantine qui se trouve dans la rue principale.

Effectivement nous avons égalment déjeuner dans cette cantine....un bon souvenir, à part le bife de lomo le pire du pays !!! Evident, la region ne s'y prete pas vraiment.
En revanche tu vois vraiment ici que la culture andine est la même que tu sois en Argentine ou en Equateur, ou en colombie ( pour ce que je connais)...Les andins ne sont ni argentins, ni equatorien, c'est vraiment une culture de la montagne, riche et fascinante, des gens à part ....

Samedi dernier a 14h00, le train se trouvait a 100 m du viaduc archi-re-postalisé de la Polvorilla ( voir photo ) lorsque pfffffffffffffffffffffffff plus de loco ! loco kaputt ! ach ! groSS problemm ! 4.000 m d altitude ! -10C et 460 gross neuneuX pieges dans les wagons ...du haut de la montaaaaaaaagne !

Les allemands ont chanté des chants paillards pour se revigorrer !, les yankees ont cru voir la main de Al Kaida, les francais ont revus a la baisse le "timing" !..(." Mais voyons Jacqueliiiiiiiiiiine on va pas tenir Salta et Jujuy pour demain !!! ) ....ach 460 prisonniers a 4000 m d alt ....
Y el conductor de tren " che viejo, pero que pasa !?...dale pero no puedo creerlo este locomotora hija de put.......(bip)... che anda a la mierd......(bip)..... etc..etc..etc..
Et il n y a pas de chauffage dans les wagons.....ca caille -10c quand on est assis ! il n y avait pas de couverture, il n y avait pas de medicaments, il n y avait pas d aliment, il n y avait pas de boissons chaudes.... comme le disent les interresses " varios pasajeros se descompusieron " ..la haut dans la montaaaaaagne !
4 heures plus tard ...ben oui 4 heures apres .. a 18h00 ( il fait presque nuit a 18h00 ) arrivent de San Antonio de los Cobres les "secours" ( ben oui etonnés de ne pas voir arriver le train ), car a ce niveau la, le signal des celulaires ne "passe pas" et il n y pas un seul patelin a moins de 20 km.
La gendarmerie arrive accompagnee par l armee ( oui chef ! bien chef ! ) et 11 camions pour "ramasser" les neuneus ... a 20h00 ils sont deposes a l hosteria de las nubes et ensuite tout ce petit monde repart a Salta ou ils arriveront au petit matin du dimanche a 4h00 !
De nombreux touristes ont demandé "una indemnización"....che ! ils voulaient du "typique", ils ont eu du "typique "! en plus ils se pleignent .....ahhhhhh voir le train des nuages en pleine nuit ca c est du luxe !
Officielement : "La máquina se descompuso" comme les voyageurs 4 heures plus tard ..peut etre un virus ? question pourquoi se descompuso ? reponse de la societe : hubo un problema en un motor de tracción eléctrica generado por el hielo que había sobre las vías.......put.(bip).il y a de la glace sur les voies!????!!....heuuu oui parceque -10C en journee et -20C la nuit ! ..et alors ? reponse : les roues patinent ...heu !!???!! en descendant la montagne aussi ????
Question : pourquoi il n y avait pas d appareil de liaison telephone dans le train ? reponse off : si, si il y en a un " pero como las comunicaciones estaban cortadas con San Antonio de los Cobres" el operativo se demoró ! ah ok ok ok .....ca rassure, en fait le systeme de telephone fonctionnait dans le train mais pas a San Antonio de los Cobres !
Bref le gouvernement de Salta a aujourd hui mercredi 20 juillet retiré la concession de la ligne a la societe Trenes y Turismo SA ......manque a gagner ...22.000 neuneus par an mettent leur vie entre les mains de cette societe et en plus ils payent !

J etais a Salta qd le news a fait la une des journaux, et personne ne s en etonne. Les argentins avec qui j en ai discute disent que c est une bonne chose et que peut etre ils feront les reparations necessaires, mais ils n y croient pas pour la plupart.
Mon sejour en Argentine s acheve et j en garde de tres bon souvenirs. Je profite de l occasion pour donner quelques tuyaux et bonnes adresses. Chilecito. Hostel y Finca del Paiman: Bonne adresse pas trop cher avec PDJ, accueil sympa Chambres et SDB propres, cuisine bien equipee pour cuisiner, le + c'est Mario guide des Parcs Nationaux qui nous a fait visiter Talampaya a pied et nous vehicule aller retour (La nouvelle gestion privee du site ne propose que des excursions payantes 25 a 35 pesos de plus a velo ou en camionette, c´est vite fait et on ne voit rien). Mario se fait disputer car les neuneus de la camionette qui nous voient marcher sont degoutes qu´on ne leur ait pas proposé. Sachez donc que meme si on ne vous le propose pas, vous pouvez visiter le parc a pied a l aide d´un guide
Tafi del Valle: On a ete logés chez Juana del Valle Oliveira ( Casa de Familia La Querencia elle tient aussi un comedor et fait de tres bonnes empanadas, tamales...) c etait pendant les vacances des argentins et toutes les adresses assez connues etaient prises. On a demande des adresses de casas au bureau de tourisme de SM de Tucuman, il faut monter dans les etages, passer par 3 personnes relativement au courant, qui vous sortent les listings sur des imprimantes des annees 70. ca a pris 1 h mais on etait content on avait plein d adresses pas cheres 8 pesos la nuit par pers.
Chicoana (Salta): Enrique et son fils Federico tiennent un ranch dans ce petit village a 40 km au sud de Salta et ils vous accueillent comme de vrais amis, d´ailleurs beaucoup restent avec eux des semaines, voir des mois.
Accueillis par un petit dej Casero, nous faisons une mise en jambe a cheval de 2 h puis, ASADO avec plein de salades colorees et du bon vin, enfin apres une sieste dans les hamac on repart pour 5H de pas, Trot et Galop dans la campagne, un belle journee qui vaut bien 80 pesos (on vient nous chercher et on nous ramene a Salta)

tu ne crois pas que tu exagere un peu!!!!🤪 nous l'avons pris en oct 2203;et c'etait super, les wagons nickels! aucun probleme du au train; le paysage splendide!😎! il y avait des bouteille d'oxygene dans chaque wagon; pour ceux qui ont le mal des montagne! avec un medecin ;ily avait un wagon restaurant;on est arrivés au bout de la ligne sur le fameux pont !!superbe sentation!! la seule chose c'est que le retour c'est les memes paysage!! mais il y avait des musiciens au retour et on s'est mis à danser!! c'etait marrant franchement je ne regrette pas de l'avoir fait:bon c'est quand meme tres "touristes" . mais au point du vue sécurité ;j"ai rien à ditre à moins que cela est changédepuis 2 ans?? tu sais en france aussi des fois ilya des pepins la preuve, le tunnel du mont blanc!!! 😕swan😎

Je n'exagere jamais.....le probleme ce n'est pas le train proprement dit, mais tu aurait du descendre du wagon pour voir l etat de la voie, des rails et de la structure des ponts !
Le jour ou il y a un train qui va accompagner le pont dans la descente, crois moi on en parlera a TF1 ....... et on n est pas loin. Les autorites de Salta ont ferme le train des nuages ! ( il en etait temps ! ) ..Si par malheur, ils le remettent en fonction dans quelques mois, ne croyez pas que les voies pour autant seront repares ! Meme en payant je ne monterais pas dedans !
"el tren a las nubes" reprendra du service en janvier 2007!
le gouvernement de salta a adjuge au groupe d'entreprises Tranex, Lesamis et Escopa la concession pour operer a partir de janvier prochain les services du tren a las nubes.De cette façon, on pense que le train touristique recommencera a fonctionner en janvier 2007, mais les tarifs ne seront pas a la portee de l'argentin moyen, vu que les prix oscilleront entre 135 et 270 pesos/pers. (entre 35 et 70€).
Tramex gere actuellement "el tren del fin del mundo" a Ushuaia tandis que Lesamis propose des paquets touristiques depuis 25 ans, avec des filiales a Madrid, NY et Pekin.Les promoteurs se sont engages a installer un atelier a Salta, construire un resto a SAntonio de los Cobres et transformer les gares en points de departs de circuits d'aventures (?).Le groupe mettra en marche un train compose de voitures de luxe avec repas typiques et degustation de vins.......

I’m all set with the route up to eastern Turkey.
However, I’m just starting my research for the rest of the journey—namely the Caucasus (no trains as far as I know, so buses and/or ferries), then Central Asia and China.
So, I’d love to hear any info or tips (general and forward-looking at this stage) about the train route through Central Asia and China to reach the east coast.
I’m particularly interested in details on:
- How far in advance to book / any potential difficulties with reservations
- Whether there are PASS systems (or equivalent) between countries and/or if some tickets allow stopovers, meaning you can hop on and off as you please
- Day trains vs. night trains (the latter option lets you explore cities between two legs of the journey)

Hakone - Kyoto

a) Is it possible to buy train tickets for these segments from Canada?
b) If so, which website should I use to do this?
c) And if it is possible, will we be able to print our tickets from Canada?

Hi everyone, I wanted to take the Paris-Berlin overnight train with a sleeper berth, the new service operated by European Sleepers.
24/05/2026 17:45 Paris-Nord (actually 16:00 from Paris Bercy Seine) -> 25/05/2026 9:59 (actually 7:30 in Berlin)
05/06/2026 18:31 Berlin (actually 20:00) -> 06/06/2026 10:00 Paris Nord (actually 12:30)
Part of the journey was operated by bus instead of the promised overnight train.
For 2 people: 340 € round trip
A total disaster. Never again. I was really looking forward to taking the overnight train, but we faced last-minute changes and truly unpleasant travel conditions. Here are the details:
1) 2 days before departure: email announcing a change of departure station for the outbound trip—Bercy Seine bus station instead of Gare du Nord.
2) Change of schedule: 4:00 PM from Bercy instead of 5:45 PM from Gare du Nord.
3) Change of transport mode!! A bus from Paris to Brussels, then an overnight train from Brussels to Berlin. No functional toilets on the bus. No children under 4 allowed on the bus.
4) On the sleeper train at 9:30 PM: no functional toilets in our carriage, so we had to go to other carriages, even in the middle of the night, to find working ones.
5) The onboard staff, though very friendly, were as lost as we were. In particular, they didn’t know how to handle the lower berths, so people using them had less space (armrests and backrests). Berth numbers weren’t respected, so some passengers had to move. The staff also didn’t know who was supposed to join the compartment during the journey.
6) Arrival at 7:30 AM in Berlin instead of 10:00 AM. No arrival announcement. Passengers had to search for staff to get breakfast and ended up with just a coffee (breakfast = 15 €, not bad for just a coffee).
7) Return trip: drastic schedule change announced by email on 26/05/2026—departure at 7:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM, with arrival between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM in Paris instead of 10:00 AM. No change in transport mode announced.
8) Change in transport mode announced by email on the same day (05/06/2026)!! Overnight train from Brussels to Berlin, then a bus from Paris to Brussels. No functional toilets on the bus. Children under 4 banned from the bus, and families in this situation were asked to find another way—after being notified the same day.
9) The overnight train arrived at Berlin station with a 30-minute delay on top of its initial delay (scheduled for 6:31 PM, then 7:30 PM, finally arriving at 8:00 PM). The heating was blasting in the compartment with no way to turn it off. No functional toilets in the carriage. From that point on, customer service stopped responding to my messages.
10) Woken up at 5:00 AM with an announcement in all carriages about arrival in Liège.
11) Woken up again at 6:00 AM to be told we’d arrive in Brussels at 7:00 AM.
12) Arrival in Brussels at 7:00 AM and a one-hour wait for the bus to Paris. No functional toilets on the bus.
13) Arrival at Paris Nord at 12:30 PM, so 2.5 hours late compared to the originally scheduled time.
14) The overnight trains used are very old—I recognized the carriages from 20 years ago!! No functional power outlets, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning. Five people per compartment is a bit cramped, but I consider these conditions expected (especially the air conditioning), so I’m not complaining about that. There’s already plenty to gripe about with the travel conditions.
I have little hope of getting even a partial refund. Customer service emails acknowledge the discomfort but only offer to reimburse the cost of a coffee on board if we send them the receipt... a bit weak.
I’m sharing this experience in the hope it might help others.

Tomorrow afternoon, I arrive at Lyon Part-Dieu on the TGV at 5:50 PM and take the TER to Mâcon at 6:16 PM. Is a 26-minute transfer doable? Are the TGV and TER on the same departure board? And are they on the same platforms too?

I just realized there’s only one payment method accepted for booking the Mombasa-Nairobi express train ticket online: M-Pesa, a mobile money transfer service used in Africa. Would it be impossible to book as a European?
I’d love to know if any of you have recently eaten on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
We’ve always ordered food on the train, and it was really good (and super convenient).
But in 2022, we ended up feeling like total idiots (with our 4-year-old daughter...) when we boarded the train only to find out that this service was no longer available... (It was the first time we’d traveled right after COVID.)
That’s also when we saw once again how kind Thai people are—they all offered to share their food with us, even though we were mortified. In the end, we managed to buy some instant noodles, which was better than nothing. Anyway, that’s the little story behind it.
In the following years, we’ve always brought our own meals.
I’ve read online that meal trays are back in service (could you confirm this, please?), but that the quality is really poor. I’ve also seen multiple reports that, even though you can eat well everywhere in Thailand, the train meal was the worst food travelers had during their trip...
Could you give me a recent opinion on this?
We’ll be departing from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station—do you know if there’s anywhere to buy a meal there before boarding the train?

I’m planning to travel from Ulaanbaatar to Irkutsk by train this summer but I’m a bit worried about crossing the borders. How does it work? Could anyone share their experience? (I’ve found quite a few accounts of people going *from* Russia *to* Mongolia, but entering a country is never the same as leaving it—especially in this context!)
