Hi everyone! I’ve had a question nagging at me for days, and I can’t find any answers on the site! I’m heading to Java soon, and since I don’t have many days, I’ll be staying in Yogyakarta to visit the temples and, most importantly, take a 3-day/2-night organized tour to Bromo, Kawa Ijen, and its beautiful blue flames... My issue is that on all the itineraries, I see the blue flame tour ending at 9 AM but heading to Bali! However, I’d really like to return to Yogyakarta after visiting Kawa Ijen. Please tell me this is possible—it’s starting to stress me out :-(... If so, how long does it take to get from Kawa Ijen back to Yogyakarta? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Jade Dragon, It’s best to spend a night in Bali upon your arrival, then visit Kawa Ijen in the morning to explore Mount Ijen. We’ll continue to Mount Bromo, leaving at 3 AM to catch the extraordinary sunrise. Visit Tawangmangu to admire the beautiful waterfall and Ceto Temple. We’ll arrive in Yogya in the evening. Visit the Sultan’s Palace, Bird Market, Borobudur Temple, and the Hindu temple in Prambanan.

Thanks for your reply, but I’d like to book a 3-day/2-night tour with round-trip transport from Yogyakarta... Hoping that’s doable...

hi jade dragon it's not possible to visit Mount Ijen, Bromo, and Yogyakarta in 3 days and 2 nights because the route is too long

As mentioned, it's not doable in 3 days. You need 1 full day for Yogya-Bromo, 1 day for the sunrise at Bromo followed by the trip to Kawa, and a morning at Kawa followed by 15-18 hours of driving back to Yogya. 😠

Have a great trip

Hi,

Thanks for your reply... but I just found some agencies in Yogyakarta that offer this itinerary with a return to Yogyakarta, as you can see in the photo...

So my only remaining question is about the travel time... I saw that the train takes 12 hours, so I think we can easily save a couple of hours by taking a shuttle...

Yeah, but I think on the 3rd day they drop you off at the bus in Ketapang—that’s at the foot of Kawa Ijen on Java’s east coast, facing Bali. The tour title even says "Ijen drop Ketapang."

And from Ketapang to Yogya, I think it takes around twenty hours (that’s what our driver told us when he dropped us off at the Ketapang ferry) 😛

That's exactly the question I'm asking myself... I've been searching in vain for an answer online but nothing...
