Best,
Is the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam passable?

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?

Hey there...
Back in April 2025, I wrote this on another forum...
I read—and I think I got—that "after Tortilla Flat," there’s a 1.5-mile section that’s only doable with a 4x4 with high ground clearance... then another 6 miles that’s still "rough," before you get back to the original trail heading up to Roosevelt Lake and then Tonto NM...
But just now, I did a quick Google Maps simulation... and by car, there are NO restrictions at all!

You’ll need to rent a 4x4 and enjoy the ride! 😉

A few years ago, I had to turn back after Tortilla Flat—I didn’t have a 4x4, just an SUV… but it was still fun. There were old mining sites and a little church with Elvis inside!

Okay, good. I’ve booked an SUV. So worst case, I’ll turn back. It was my route between Phoenix and Tucson. A few photos, and then we’ll take the regular road. I’m checking the Arizona roads website to get an idea, but nothing beats being on the ground.
Cheers.

After thoroughly studying the situation😎, I think I’ll go with this route:
Tucson, Apache Trail, stop at the Godfield Ghost Town, a bit of driving on the Apache, turn around, then head up to Sedona! A 6-hour 30-minute drive. Or more. Well, we’re in the States! On the road again!!
If I leave Tucson around 8:30 AM, that’ll give me plenty of time for photos. The hardest part will be playing with the light... We’ll use the black filter..😎

Hi, you can go as far as Canyon Lake—from what I remember, the road is in great shape there. It’d be better for you to be able to go to Roosevelt Lake and head back up toward the mountain, but oh well… I did it in the fall and there was snow on the 17 up top.

Yeah, that was my original plan. We’ll see how it goes.
Thanks for your tips.
