Effectivement, celà me parait excessif, puisque pour 3 semaines dans l'ouest américain en juin/juillet prochain, et en ayant tout fait moi-même, j'arrive à 3500€/personne en comptant tout:
Vol aller/retour sur Air France
Location voiture avec supplément moins de 25 ans!!! (de l'ordre de 450 dollars tout de même chez Alamo)
Hôtels 3 étoiles (donc on ne s'est pas trop "restreint", et je peux même dire qu'à certains endroits on s'est vraiment fait plaisir (notamment Las Vegas), et que pour les Parcs on sera toujours logé à l'intérieur des Parcs donc c'est plus cher mais bon c'est pas un voyage qu'on fera tous les ans!)
Estimation bouffe, et j'ai peut être surestimé mais je préfère surestimer que sous-estimer
Estimation essence (idem que pour la nourriture)
Visites (universal studios, warner bros, le pass pour les Parcs Nationaux... etc)
Il s'agit d'une boucle los angeles/los angeles en juillet/aout dans des hotels 2 ou 3 étoiles mais je n'en demande pas tant !!Voila!!Merci florence

Tu trouveras partout des hôtels tout à fait confortables, avec des chambres pour 4 personnes pour moins de 150 dollars... 😎
Si tu es sur le forum, c'est que tu as Internet... 😛... Alors pourquoi ne pas faire tes réservations directement sur les sites des hôtels... C'est comme ça que tu auras les meilleurs prix...
Idem pour la location de voiture : autoescape, ebookers, ou autre...

même sur le Strip de Las Vegas généralement, il y a la place pour 4 personnes

Hi ! Je comprends mieux - je suppose que la jeune demoiselle peut coucher dans la chambre des parents, donc une chambre avec 2 "queen bed" convient - c'est souvent le type de chambre que je réserve (3 voyages dans l'Ouest US)
Voici comment je procède généralement :
1. je localise mes étapes sur googles maps - sur la ville où je souhaite passer une ou plusieurs nuits
2. je fait rechercher les motels sur place
3. je sélectionne ceux qui ont un site internet et font les résa en ligne
4. j'épluche les "amenities" - piscine, cafetière, frigo, WiFi ... et les prix
5. je réserve qq semaines avant - plus tôt pour ceux dans des zones hyper touristiques.
Pour Las Vegas, j'ai sélectionné sur Wikipédia
Je n'ai jamais eu de mauvaise surprise - il est toujours possible d'annuler avant - souvent ce sont des grandes chaines d'hôtel, certains les disent "impersonnelles" - quoique ...
Résultat en mai dernier, 1290€ pour 20 nuits, dont 7 à Las Vegas et un majorité en Best Western - il est possible de fire pour moins0.
Voici ma méthode - d'autres internautes ont des approches différentes - mais je ne me fie pas aux bonnes adresses que l'on peut lire ici ou là - c'est tellement variable d'une année à l'autre.

Moi j'ai fait plusieurs voyages aux usa avant et aprés internet j'ai les cartes michelin des usa il y en a 4 ou 5 je fait mon itinéraire je choisit les arrets en fonction des guides et des distances et je regarde les prix des motels dans les differentes chaines des hotels accord maintenant avant j'avais des directory de chaine que j'avais récupéré sur place . Je prévois des arrets dans ceux qui ont des laveries c'est pratique sur un voyage de plus d'une semaine ;
En général je privilégie des motels d'une méme chaine ainsi il est plus facile de modifier son trajet pour rester 1 jour ou 2 de plus a un endroit et le personnel des réceptions s'en occupe trés gentiment
Lors de la réservation par le net les chaine t'envoient un mail de comfirmation et tu le présente a chaque hotel
Pareil pour le véhicule et l'avion
En septembre 2008 les 26 nuitées m' auront coûté environ 1725 € ( taux moyen de change net de frais €/$ évalué à 1, 40 ) . Outre 3 nuits en " cabins " NP au confort indigent, mais au moins aussi chères qu' en motel, et 4 autres dans des " cabins " privées pas terribles non plus en proximité de Parcs, toutes les autres en motels allant du Motel 6 au Mariott, le niveau moyen retenu se situant entre les Super 8 et les Best Western .
Nous avons eu assez souvent des chambres à 2 lits de taille au moins " Queen " .
J' ajoute une précision importante : tous ces motels sans exception étaient équipés d' un frigo+micro-ondes+"ice machine" collective gratuite ( recharge de sa glacière portative tous les matins ) .
Cela permet de beaucoup "pique-niquer" facilement si on n' est pas un accro du restau à tout prix, d' autant que dans la journée dehors il fait toujours beau ( 2 mn de pluie en 26 jours ! ), et d' avoir une dépense nourriture modeste au final . Et de rester + longtemps à voyager dans le pays ...
Lors de notre périple de l'été dernier, nos nuits de motels nous ont couté 95 $ par nuit en moyenne (33 nuits). Nous avons réservé uniquement les premières et les dernières, afin de nous laisser la possibilité d'adapter notre voyage à nos envies.
Dans chacune de ces chambres, nous aurions pu dormir avec un enfant en plus de nous 2.
Pour 30 nuits une agence de voyage nous facture 10339 euros pour 2 adultes et 3 enfants, la voiture de location le temps du voyage, les vols et tous les hôtels. Bon évidemment nous n'avons pas pris des hôtels de luxe..
Je pense que le prix qu'on te propose est très exagéré, à moins que les nuitées ne se fassent dans des hôtels de grand luxe et que la voiture soit le top du top!!

nous sommes partis a trois, je n"avais reservé que l'hotel en arrivant pour remplir le papier vert, lol
ensuite, quand tu visite des endroits touristiques, pas de soucis, tu trouves hotel et motel partout, sauf sur la hw1 de big sur a cambria
mon mari était contre le fait de ne pas reserver d'hotel, mais au final il m'a donné raison, tu es libre totalement, si tu te trouves dans un endroit qui te plait vraiment, tu y reste un jour de plus, un petit conseil:j'ai toujours demandé de voir la chambre avant de la prendre et ca ne pose aucun probleme et nous avons toujours pris la chambre
PRIX:entre 65 et 90 doll dont certains avec petit dejeuner
Si tu ne veux pas t'occuper des locations, ce qui peut être compréhensible 😛, tu peux aussi passer par une agence mais avec un catalogue "à la carte" . ( Nouvelles Frontières, JetSet, Vacances Fabuleuses, etc ... )
Tu choisiras tes étapes selon ton budget et avec le niveau d'hôtel que tu désires, tu auras une idée du budget rapidement en pouvant comparer les offres de chacun.
Je crois effectivement que tu as intérêt à préparer ton voyage seul . Avec internet, c'est quand même extrémement facile et ... plutôt amusant .
La préparation du voyage est un moment très important du voyage lui-même. on rêve déjà.
Lors de notre périple de 13 jours, en hotels best western ( le plus souvent), nous avons dépensé moins de
1 500 euros par personne ( avec location de voiture, restos, spectacles, hélico ...sans le vol tout de même)
Nous avons effectué cet été (Juillet-Aout 2008) un periple de 24 nuits dans l'ouest americain.
Notre composition familiale etait similaire à la votre, 2 adultes et un enfant de 6, 5 ans.
Nous avons reserve tous nos hebergements par nous-meme directement aupres des hotels.
Au final, nous en avons eu pour 2984 $ (soit ~ 2000. Euro au cours $-Euro de cet ete).
Apres, cela depend des endroits ou on loge (interieurs des parc ou non, villes comme San Franciso, etc) et de la periode.
De notre cote, nous n'avons pas particulierement recherche a economiser sur le logement.
A chaque fois, nous avons pris des chambres 2-Queen Beds.
Il doit surement etre possible de reduire la facture en s'y prenant plus tot dans les reservations (dans notre cas, nous avions reserve en mars-avril) et/ou en privilegiant des lieux excentres.
Une chose non negligeable a savoir, (surtout quand on prepare si longtemps a l'avance).
En reservant directement aupres des hoteliers,
1) Las Vegas et certains parcs excepte, on ne paie pas a l'avance (on donne son numero de carte de crédit qui ne sera debite que sur place ou en cas de non presentation),
2) il est presque toujours possible d'annuler la reservation -SANS FRAIS- si annonce suffisemment a l'avance (entre 24 et 72 heures a l'avance)
Notez qu'a l'epoque nous avions aussi compare les prix "en direct" avec ceux de certaines agences de voyage en ligne (Expedia, Kuoni, Hostel.com). La difference de prix néatit pas significative et generalement en defaveur des agences
Juste une question : les 3800 EUR, cela inclut bien l'avion et l'hôtel pour les 3 personnes ? Ce n'est pas un prix par personne, ou un prix sans avion ?
Je commence moi aussi mes recherches pour un tour des grands parcs. Nous l'avons déjà fait il y a 13 ans et souhaiterions le refaire, un peu plus approfondi et combiné à la Californie, avec notre fils de 8 ans l'été prochain. Le tout sera assez court malheureusement (une douzaine de jours), et pour en tirer parti au maximum, je cherche moi aussi un billet multidestinations (Bruxelles>Phoenix, Las Vegas>Los Angeles, San Francisco>Bruxelles). Tout conseil est donc le bienvenu !!

19 jours/18 nuits Avion (Bruxelles/Las Vegas A/R) : 1560 euros pour les 4 Voiture : 4x4 Toyota Higlander 17 jours : 480 euros avec les assurances Hotel : 1600 euros pour 18 nuits (dont 2 nuits au Paris Las Vegas et 2 nuits au Venetian, le reste en moyen 80 euros le nuit pour 4... les enfants étant gratuits aux Etats Unis)
Je reste à votre disposition pour plus de renseignements... J'avais choisi les hotels en me basant sur Tripadvisor et résa directement auprès des hotels via internet

Les 75$ de moyenne, c'est par personne ou total ? Si c'est total, je en reste baba.
Pour ce qui concerne les parcs geres par Xanterra, nous (2 adultes + 1 enfant) avons fait Zion Lodge, Yavapai @ GC, FarView Lodge @ Mesa Verde et StovePipe Wells @ DV. Nous avons eu pour respectivement (j'arrondis en incluant les taxes) 170 $, 110 $, 130 $ (petits dejeunesr inclus) et 130. Je reconnais que nous nous somme pris tardivement et que nous aurions pu trouver moins cher (mais pas tant que ca)
Pour Las Vegas, Excalibur est effectivement bon marche. (61$ minimum, -10$ avec promo internet, mais non modifiable et payable immediatement). Par contre NewYorY-NewYork, on est deja dans du minimum 100$...
Le moins cher que nous ayons paye, c'est 60-70$ a Cannonville (Bryce Canyon), Torrey (Capitol Reef), Hoolbrook (Petrified Forest) et Freemont Hotel (Las Vegas)
Par contre, nous avons trouve la Californie vers Lee Vining, Yosemite, et San Francisco sensiblement plus cher.
non, c'est pour les 2. 4 nuits à moab pour 6O$ la nuit ( inca inn ), 3 nuits à page au page boy idem, las vegas circus 55, excalibur 65, newyork 90, smith hotel à glendale pour bryce 55, etc et des chambres pour 4 chaque fois sauf à yellowstone ( canyon lodge 72 $, mais pas terrible ) et grand canyon ( bright angel 81 $ douche sur le palier ). avec les chambres à 80 ou 100 ça fait une moyenne de 75 environ. à stovepipe 115, mais sans petit dej.
j'avais fait mes réservations en décembre, janvier et février. les seuls à payer d'avance étaient xanterra et las vegas, dans tous les cas une nuit seulement.
Nous sommes partis au mois de mai juin dernier pour 24 nuits à 2 couples avec peu de resssources
Nous nous sommes aides de Sidestep, Wyndham resorts, Hotwire, hotel.com plus des sites des hotels qqfois moins chers lorsqu on y accede directement

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

My 16-year-old son is flying to Grand Rapids with other kids his age. There’s a layover in Detroit. There’s no unaccompanied minor service available. Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

**Parking:**
We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?
Hi there. I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. As you can see, we're heading back from September 6th to the 27th.

Devil’s Kitchen and Boiling Spring Lake (Day 5)
I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?
Are there any other must-see spots or things we shouldn’t miss?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
