Pour faire court à notre demande, nous souhaitons partir le 4 ou 5 août pour 17 jours moitié côte Ouest (5/8/08 au 14/08/08) et moitié côte Est (15/08/08 au 22/08/08).
(Pou info, suite à un problème de dernière minutes hélàs nous étions incertains de pouvoir partir nous avons dû arrêté nos recherches d'ou notre resollication tardive).
Malgrès la hausse des billets depuis biensur on garde espoir on a trouvé en moins chère nous sommes à 1300e (avec Continental conseillé par des amis de ce forum) pour notre itinéraire.
5/08 au 8/08 Nous pensions attérir à SAN DIEGO rester 3 nuits (dot celle de notre arrivé à 20h) et 2 jours pour sea world, Zoo, coronado, island beach
Ensuite direction LA via la côte environ 200 km donc tranquillement en une journée le temps de s'arrêter admirer le paysage quitte à prendre une chambre à Laguna(d'ailleurs on se demandait mais à partir d'ou nous pourrions nous baigner à température correct car d'après ce que nous avons lu l'eau est assez froide🙂).
donc du 8/08 au 14/08 nous pensions prendre un hôtel excentré de LA avec une piscine découvrir de Santa monica, barbara à bervelly ills, hollywood etc.. jusqu"à santa Universale et autre parc, outlets, nous sommes en train de reagarder tout ça et viendrons vous consulter pour peaufiner ça😉
Mais notre problème est celui-ci le 14/08 au soir normalement il était prévu de voyager de nuit vers l'Est gains de temps oblige mais nous hésitons à faire un LA-NY ou allez deux jours plus tôt à Las vegas en avion interne (40e) ou en voiture (pour lequel nous attendons vos avis 😎) arriver en fin d'après midi le 13/08 par exemple profiter de la soirée de LV et le lendemain piscine et visite de quelques hotels et repartir de LAS VEGAS le soir vers 21h et arrivé le lendemain matin à New york pour lequel nous aavons réservé un appartement.
Le plus importants sont les billets sont à prendre rapidement le reste nous pourrons en reparler ici sur vos conseils

Si je comprends bien tu ne restes que 2 jours a San Diego, je te conseillerai plutot 3 jours sur place ( 1 pour le zoo, 1 pour seaworld et 1 pour se balader) ensuite ( je suis de parti pris je n'aime pas pas specialement L.A) 2 ou 3 jours sur L.A sont suffisants et cela te laisse suffisament de temps pour aller à Vegas.
Je suis de l'avis de Lindbergh en ce qui concerne Las Vegas.
Par contre, 6 jours à Los Angeles je pense que c'est franchement trop, même si j'aime bien cette ville !
Quant à la baignade, à moins d'être courageux ou alors pas frileux, il ne faut pas trop y compter... 😕
Une suggestion: Pourquoi ne pas atterir à San Francisco qui est selon moi, une ville beaucoup plus belle, agréable et sympa que San Diego ? Ensuite, vous descendez tranquillement par la côte jusqu'à L.A. puis direction Las Vegas en passant par la Death Valley où vous prendrez votre vol pour New York !

Je répond sans hésitation...OUI ! C'est une ville spectacle, a voir au moins une fois dans sa vie...Les ballades nocturnes sur le Strip, les spectacles gratuits, Freemont Street Experience...Tout ca vaut vraiment 2 jours de détours...
Au choix j'ai préféré zapper L-A... (La seule chose que je voulais y voir étais le signe Hollywood et je l'ai vu depuis le bus)...
En ce qui concerne le transport, moi j'ai fait San Francisco - Vegas (via Los Angeles) par Greyhound...Depuis L-A c'est 50 dollars par personne je crois... A voir si ca vaut le coup par rapport a l'avion avec les trajets villes-aéroport...
En tout cas c'est a ne pas rater...
Je me permet tout de même une petite question...Vous comptez faire la cote ouest sans passer par San Francisco ??? Je ne sais pas si vous connaissez cette ville, mais si ce n'est pas le cas, c'est LA ville de la cote ouest... J'ai eu vriment du mal a la quitter...

Le 4/08 départ Paris et arrivée 20h on pensait sur San Diego on loue une voiture pour tout notre séjour. On comptait y rester 3 nuits pour aller voir Sea world (1 journée il parait), un des 2 zoo (1/2 jounée suffisant ?) et lequel nous conseilles-tu?) et puis passer une journée dans le centre ville et coronado.
Pour l'hotel on pense qu'un seul pour les 3 jours serait bien (de preference avre une piscine si vous en connaissez un on est preneur) sauf pour la 1ère nuit peut etre ar on va etre plus faitgué on donc plutot un hotel a l'aeroport ?
Le 8/08 au 11/08 On démarre dès le matin en remontant la côte jusqu'a LA avec des petites pauses le long (ex: la jolla) et à LAGUNA beach (il parait superbe) nous sur LA on aimerait aller voir Bervely hills, Sunset Bld, cité des Anges, Hollywood, Venice beach, santa monica (ville ou on pensait prendre l'hotel durant notre sejour), santa Barbara malibu, un petit detout par les maisons stars et profiter de la piscine de l'hotel et en parc d'attraction Warner bros, Universal, et disney si on peut si tu connais un parc à faire pas de soucis :) on m' a parlé de six flag ?. donc voilà pourquoi on avait pévu plus de jours.
Et donc maintenant le 12 au 13 depart tres tot pour LV (pour le trajet on attend tes conseils :)) arrivé pas trop tard (si vous avez un tuyeau pour l'hotel cool) pour profiter de la soirée et le lendemain resté sur LV le matin piscine et l'apres midi balade ou je ne sais pas si tu as une idée car le soir on rend la voiture à l'aéroport et vol de nuit à 22h direction New york (pour lequel on a loué un appart)
1) On nous a repproché de ne pas être plutot arrivée sur SFO et descendre la cote jusqu'a LA puis avant de partir sur LV mais San Diego m'attire plus..enfin je sais pas de ce que j'ai lu de SFO j'ai pas plus accroché..
2) Pour le trajet LA-LV le conseil serait la voiture plutot que l'avion quel chemin pourrions prendre car la direct de 4h30 il parait qu'elle est ennuyeuse a en mourir (lu sur le forum) et comme vous l'avez remarqué nous n'avons pas de parc ou GC peut etre devrions nous faire un détout par DV.
3) Pour les plages lesquels nous conseillez vous à voir et une que l'on y passe un petit apres midi.
Pour les bonnes affaires on nous a parlé des Outlets il y en a un qui est plutot pas mal et qui vaut le coup dans l'ouest ou doit on plutot attendre l(Est pour y aller dans la banlieue de new york je crois.
Désolé pour ce roman mais nous sommes à un mois du départ et pas pret du tout !!! je vais voir si pas possible de rajouter une journée (18 jrs) pas sur mais bon 😉

Alors pour San Diego j'ai visité le Zoo pas la reserve, donc je peux te dire que le Zoo vaut la peine et que tu y passeras facilement une grosse demi journée. Tu peux aussi faire un tour dans "l'ancienne ville de san diego" et tu verras une hacienda et des maisons style far west, c'est assez touristique mais sympa a voir. Le centre ville de san diego pas exceptionnel mais je trouve tjs interresant de se promener dans la ville, coronado a voir et ensuite les plages. Tu peux loger du coté de La Jolla petite ville sympa au nord de SD 15à 20 minutes de l'aeroport, possibilté d'avoir un hotel en bord de mer. Un petit truc tu regardes sur google earth tu selectionnes hebergement et tu pourras reperer les emplacements des hotels.

4 au soir hotel S.D
5 je dirai zoo et balade vieille ville plus promenade plage le soir hotel S.D
6 Seaworld, centre ville hotel S.D
7 Coronado et route vers L.A + Hotel

ce qui te laisse le temps de voir DV voir d'aller faire un tour a ZION ( une nuit sur place)
Maintenat pour S.F c'est une ville coup de coeur, pour ma part c'est la ville que je prefere le cadre est magnifique, l'esprit de la ville est fun et la region chouette donc apres tout le programme de ci-dessus je dirai si tu peux changer et faire
4 nuits à San francisco
2 Nuits sur yosemite et ensuite soit L.A ou vegas pour le solde sachant que si tu pars de yosemite vers Vegas tu feras DV en même temps
Fait cet itineraire et je pense (j'espere) tu ne le regretteras pas.

Je ne sais pas ou tu as tes habitudes de baignade, il est clair que si tu cherches 25° dans l'eau, c'est mort.
Maintenant, a San Diego, la baignade est tout a fait possible, c'est des kms de plage bordée par des maisons assez particuliere selon les endroits, mais soyons clair, ce ne sont pas des plages de reve.
Laguna beach est vraiment sympa et on se baigne sans probleme, l'eau n'est pas plus froide que dans l'atlantique, et tu as les vagues egalement. Apres plus tu montes au nord et plus cela devient froid, vraiment froid. Cela etant, je me suis baignée à santa Monica et ca le faisait encore.... Mais je n'y ai pas passé la journée.

nous sommes de retour des Etats-Unis et nous avons fait Las Vegas (du 16 au 18 juin).
Nous ne regrettons qu'une chose, nous sommes restés 2 nuits et, avec un spectacle (KA) de prévu un soir, nous nous sommes apperçus que c'était trop court. (il faut dire que nous avions pris un survol du Grand Canyon 1/2 journée). Nous serions bien restés une journée de plus. C'est une ville à voir...
Pour l'hôtel, nous sommes allé au BAlly's. Il n'a pas l'air bien connu, il donne sur la strip (pas la chambre). Il est en commun avec le Paris.
Je crois qu'il est moins cher que le Paris et est très bien.
Je ne sais pas ce qu'en pensent les autres, mais le Paris a été mon hôtel préféré du point de vue décor et je ne pense pas que ce soit du chauvinisme.
En ayant vu la strip, je ne prendrais pas le circus-circus, ni le stratosphère comme hôtel. Je les trouve trop loin de tout. Pour moi, la seule raison qui peut faire prendre le circus-circus est son style fête foraine pour les anfants.
Il faut compter une bonne trentaine de minutes de marche entre le stratosphère et le flamingo qui est le début de tous les hôtels...
Voilà ce que je peux dire de ce que j'ai perçu de Vegas.
Pour le survol du Grand Canyon, nous avions peur de ne pas trouver, il n'y avait pas grand chose sur internet pour un départ de Las Vegas, mais il y a des dizaines de vendeurs sur la strip, le choix ne manque pas...on a eu un vol le soir pour le lendemain matin. Je ne sais pas si c'est de la chance, ou juin est considéré comme hors saison.

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

There are several attractions along the way:

- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. They told us they’ve spent over 15 years exploring every corner of the American West, and it really shows. Their knowledge of geology, park history, and local anecdotes is just impressive. It’s nothing like someone reciting a memorized script. They answer all your questions and really adapt to what you want to see or do.
What we really loved: the vehicle was super comfortable, and the little details made a difference—like snacks and even a homemade cake! Though, to be fair, we devoured the cake right away, so that counts.
Since they know the sites inside out, they took us at the right times to avoid crowds. So we could enjoy peaceful picnics at Grand Canyon viewpoints without being packed in with 200 people. Plus, on top of the must-see spots, they showed us some hidden gems that were absolutely stunning—places we never would’ve found on our own. They’re true locals who know all the best tips.
The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
