Je prévois partir pour Mada en février de l'an prochain en solo et en sac à dos. J'ai 6 mois de sabbatique et plusieurs questions me viennent à l'esprit :
1- Dans mes premières lectures, je lis que février est la période des pluies. Est-ce partout sur l'île ? Sont-ce des pluies diluviennes ou une pluie qui dure 1h et on continu à nos occupations ? Est-ce de quoi de désagréable ou supportable ?
2- Étant donné que j'ai 6 mois de congé, est-ce trop long pour Mada seulement ou si j'ai assez de temps pour aller sur le continent au Zanzibar, Kenya et peut-être me rendre jusqu'à l'Éthiopie ?
Je ne veux surtout pas passez mon 6 mois de congé dans le transport mais bien profiter des belles découvertes, visiter, rencontrer et relaxer.
Y a t-il une ou plusieurs âmes charitables sur ce site qui auraient la gentillesse de me faire profiter de leur expériences afin de mieux organiser mon voyage.
La pluie, c' est pas partout, tres-tres rarement dans le Sud, un peu moins a l' ouest qu' à l'Est, cela depend aussi des années des régions et des saisons, chaque region a sa periode idéale, il pleut actuelement sur les hauts plateaux depuis la mi janvier, et il ya des innondations aux abords de Tana, certaines maisons traditionelles se sont effondrées faisant des victimes humaines parmi la population, ceci est toutefois exceptionnel, quand il pleut cela peut être du crachin ou l' averse tropicale ou il pleut à seau .

bonne idée d'aller à Madagascar, c'est un pays merveilleux qui donne toujours envie d'y retourner
j'y suis allé la première fois avec les enfants en février : nous avons fait la route vers le sud cad toliara (c'est magnifique). le temps fut sec avec parfois des pluies en fin d'ap-midi. Sur Toliara, sec, sec et très chaud. Nous avons rencontré des italiens qui venaient de Nosy be et qui en avait marre de la pluie!!! tu trouves toujours à te loger sans pb et tu manges pour pas cher
sinon février, mars, c'est la période cyclonique mais généralement çà passe vite : faut pas être sur le passage toutefois...

j'y suis retourné une seconde fois, toujours avec les enfants, et sur ste marie en aout et là, pluie, pluie, pluie :au bout de 5 jours, on a eu marre et on a repris l'avion pour tana. Arrivé la-bas, on a regardé ce qu'il y avait comme vol pour la cote ouest (c'était soit marondava ou majanga), ce fut majanga car il y avait de la place sur les vols : et là soleil, soleil, soleil... sinon c'était sympa mais la mer n'était pas très belle : très rouge. mais quel que soit l'endroit où tu vas, les gens sont d'une extrême gentillesse
j'y retourne le prochain été sur maintirano
pour ce qui concerne la durée, 6 mois, tu n'auras pas le temps de t'ennuyer si tu veux faire le tour de madagascar : tout est magnifique et différent
achète le lonelyplanet qui me semble (de mémoire) un peu plus détaillé que le routard
il y a pas mal de renseignements sur mada: beaucoup de réunionais qui vont passer leur vacances à bon prix là bas et plus en plus de continentaux séduits par cette ile

Si je comprend bien, je n'aurai pas assez de 6 mois pour tout voir et peut importe le temps de l'année ( car je prévois partir début février pour revenir vers la mi-août) le climat semble différer dépendamment de l'endroit ou l'on se retrouve si j'ai bien compris.
Y a-t-il des endroits en particulier qui sont des lieux à ne pas manquer, qui demande de s'arrêter pour plusieurs jours etc. ?
6 mois devraient suffire, pour ma part je prefere visiter l' ile en plusieurs fois et approndir mon voyage par région, j' ai effectue un voyage en hiver et un autre en été, les mêmes paysages etaient tout a fait differents, c' est un peu comme chez nous entre le printemps et l' hiver .
J' ai passé pour ma part en 3 voyages 65 jours sur place, il me reste à voir diego, Fort Dauphin et les tsingys, je pense faire le reste en 60 jours, j' aurai vu l' essentiel, mais quand j' aurais tout vu, je n' aurai encore pas tout vu, Madagascar on ne s' en lasse pas, il me faudra revoir, il est vrai que je ne le fais pas en routard ou il faut peut être un peu plus de temps

certains disent qu ' ils font un voyage, en fait c' est le voyage qui vous fait ou vous defait.
En 6 mois, tu auras le temps de tout voir en prenant tout ton temps et tu ne t'ennuieras pas (je ne pense pas qu'il soit utile d'aller sur le continent). Ne te fixe pas du timing selon chaque endroit, tu verras sur place selon les rencontres et ç'est çà le plus sympa (çà ne manquera pas car les gens sont vraiment adorables). 4 endroits me paraissent incontournables (la descente vers le sud-ouest cad tuléar, Fort dauphin, ste marie, nosy be avec diego) : s'il faut rajouter une autre destination c'est morondava. Comme tu pars en février, je te conseille de faire la descente vers le sud (car sec) en prenant tout ton temps. à Tuléar, va passer quelque temps Ifaty et si ton budget est limité et plutot routard, dors dans le village de pecheur (il y a 7 ans, c'était 10 francs la nuit). De tuléar, rejoint Fort Dauphin (je connais pas mais çà a l'air sympa). De Fort Dauphin, remonte le canal des Pangalanes (ce que je n'ai pas fait.. et arrête toi au grès des rencontres) jusque Tamatave (le temps devrait être impeccable après mars-avril) De tamatave, tu peux rejoindre St-marie (où la vie est un peu plus cher) : possible en bateau. puis de Ste marie, il faudrait ensuite que tu ailles sur Diégo et Nosy Be (un peu plus cher qu'ailleurs), mais je ne sais pas si le chemin est praticable ou s'il faut y aller par avion (via tana peut-être). Pour redescendre sur Tana, la route n'est pas formidable (parait-il). Voilà en gros le chemin à faire. Il y a morondava qui serait aussi à faire. prends des médicaments en rab (tu feras des heureux sur place). Je prends pour ma part toujours une valise de vieux vêtements à donner (ou faire du troc, c'est encore possible) mais çà sera un peu difficile pour toi si tu ne veux pas trop te charger.
Fouille un peu sur internet : j'avais trouvé un site fait par un réunionais avec tout plein de bons plans pas chers.
Encore une fois un gros merci, j'ai de quoi orienter mes recherches et bien planifier mon périple. Ton site est aussi exceptionnelle avec beaucoup d'info. Je prendrai le temps de le lire à fond en plus des quelques livres sur Mada.

Effectivement pour la période de l'année ou je pars, il m'apparait essentiel d'aller vers le sud et ensuite de remonter par la côte est en allant vers le nord pour redescendre du côté nord-ouest de l'île.

Étant donné que je suis en congé différé et en excluant le prix du billet d'avion, j'aurai un budget d'environ $1600 canadien ou environ 1100 euro par mois. Est-ce beaucoup ou devrais-je avoir un budget serré ?
avec 1.100 euros par mois, tu vas pouvoir manger de la langouste ou du tournedos rossini tous les jours...avec 20euros par jour, çà devrait être suffisant si tu voyages en routard : il est vrai toutefois que seul çà revient un peu plus cher qu'à plusieurs mais en sachant que le smic local est de 50-60 euros par mois, avec tes 1.100 euros, tu auras largement assez. A nous quatre avec les enfants, c'était super intéressant car on avait une chambre guère plus cher que pour quelqu'un tout seul...Ce qui est le plus cher, ce sont les vols intérieurs : si tu prends un vol air mada, les vols intérieurs bénéficie de 50 % de réduc. A savoir, Ste marie et nosy be sont plus cher que le sud. je n'y suis pas allé depuis 4 ans mais je pense que les prix sont restés sages. j'y retourne en juin de cet été mais dans une destination où tu n'iras certainement pas (maintinaro). mes infos seront donc un peu plus fraiche. bon voyage.
😎salut ai fait Mada en fevrier 2006, sur N7 peu de pluie, surtout en soirée, plus tu descends sur tulear et plus il y a du soleil et il fait chaud.Par contre sur ste marie li y a tendance a pleuvoir enormement(parfois des journées entieres)A+

Malheureusement mes plans ont quelque peu changé. Je pars finalement pour un mois au Panama en février, reviens terminer ma saison de hockey avec les amis et faire du plein-air et profiter du printemps pour vendre ma voiture pour ne repartir qu'à la fin avril pour Madagascar. Si par hasard tu es encore là à ce moment-là, on ira prendre un verre.

Nous voulons faire quelques safaris, aller dans les villages, les montagnes, voir les plantations de thé, ... Mais aussi voir les tortues. Nous adorons le snorkeling mais ne sommes pas de grands connaisseurs, on est juste contents de voir des poissons plein de couleurs et des coraux. On a toujours voulu voir des tortues aussi. I’ve planned a three-week itinerary for this summer, from August 9 to 27, in Sri Lanka:
Negombo – 1 night
Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle – 4 nights
Kandy – 2 nights
Ella – 3 nights
Tangalle – 6 nights
Colombo Airport – 1 night
I know this isn’t the ideal time for the south since the beach conditions aren’t great, but we’ve booked a hotel with a pool and won’t be swimming in the sea. We want to relax after all the travel since we’re bringing our two kids, aged 6 and 8.
I know the east would be better, but (i) I’m struggling to find suitable accommodation, and (ii) it adds a lot of travel time, and my kids can only handle about 3 hours at a stretch.
I looked into Arugam Bay, but it’s a 7-hour trip back to Colombo from there.
I’ve checked every weather site imaginable, but they don’t all agree. Do you think we’ll spend our whole trip in the rain, or is the monsoon in the south mostly limited to the sea, as I’ve read?
I’m worried about ending up in the middle of a natural disaster with my two young kids, given recent events.

This year, 2026, I can only get away in April and May. I never travel during these months usually, and from what I know, they aren’t the best for India. But in such a big country, there are always spots that are better than others weather-wise.

We’re more drawn to the Andes, exploring colonial cities, typical villages, markets, and a bit of the coast. We’ve already gotten a taste of this in Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile. Plus, we’d love to do part of it by car since we’re used to driving at our own pace and stopping whenever we feel like it. Anyway, time’s running out, and I need to decide so I can finalize a route and book the tickets!!

I’ve planned a trip to Asia for the first half of November.
I’ll arrive in Singapore at the start of November for about 3 days, and I’ll leave from Bangkok in mid-November.
In between, I’d like to gradually head north to visit some less touristy islands on the Thai coast.

Just giving you the quick context: A group of friends and I are planning a trip to South Korea (Seoul/Busan) at the end of June/July next year. It falls right in the middle of the monsoon season, but we don’t really have other availability options.😕
I’d love to hear from people who’ve visited the country and these cities during this period—basically, is it not as bad as it sounds, or should we just cancel our tickets (we don’t mind the heat, it’s mostly the rain that scares us).
I know there are plenty of indoor activities, but do you think we’ll still manage to get a few sunny days, or will it be torrential rain for our entire 2-week trip?
The only other country we’ve visited during the rainy season is Brazil (in the northeast) around the same time, and honestly, aside from a few really annoying downpours, we had sunshine most of the time and it was awesome. That said, the climate is totally different, so I’m not sure how relevant the comparison is.

Not sure if guidebooks, agencies, and other tour operators are keeping up by changing their visiting hours and offerings.
Personally, I see a promising opportunity here—jumping on this adaptation to extreme climates before others do, since they’re inevitably coming.
From my own travel experience, I’ve met a few guides so far who are starting to adjust, like in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, and elsewhere.
They avoid crowds and the hottest hours by starting their tours around 6–7 AM, when it’s cooler.
Yeah, you’ve gotta wake up early, but the payoff is so worth it. 😴
If you’ve got any great tips like this, why not discuss them in this thread and share addresses or websites where the people in charge have realized climate change is real and are adapting? 😊
