I’m visiting Rome in early September and looking for a guide for a day trip to Vatican City—museums and St. Peter’s Basilica—and another day exploring ancient Rome: Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. There are so many guides listed across Rome’s sites—it’s hard to choose! Would anyone have a recommendation for a pleasant guide who helps skip the lines, is knowledgeable, and offers small-group or private tours? Thanks

Hi there,

Get your guide? 😛

I haven’t tried it in Rome since I’m not a huge fan of touring in big groups, but when I did (Naples, etc.), it was really interesting.

But I think no matter the booking site, it’ll always be hit or miss—some guides are super passionate, others less so, it really depends on the person... 😐

Hi, Search on Google for ... French guide associations in Rome ... and you’ll get a list of different associations. Then look up what people say about each one online, contact them, and see which one seems best for you. Avoid big agencies like GetYourGuide or Ticketbar—they often have pretty large groups, whereas associations have smaller ones, like: VisiteRome, LaRomeDeJulie, LesSecretsDeRome... Guided tours usually last about 3 hours. CG

Hi there! For skip-the-line private guided tours (just you and your guide) in French, I went with Bonjourrome.fr—whether for the ancient city, the Colosseum, or the Vatican! Authentic and personal. !
