J' avoue 😊: je ne connais rien aux différentes iles et palges paradisiaques de Thailande j'ai beau lire je mélange tout !
Ah si, y'a une chose, leur nom commence super souvent par Koh ... ça voudrait pas dire "ile " par hasard ?? :))
J'avoue aussi, ça va peut être paraitre bizarre à pas mal mais ... nous on s'ennuie vite sur les plages parce que ma femme et ma fille ne peuvent faire de plongée, même pas de snorkling et comme le bronzage ça les laisse froide ( c'est le cas de le dire ! 🙂 🙂) ...
Ceci dit la prespective d'y passer quelques jours avant de retourner dans la grisaile d'un mois de janvier français n'est quand même pas pour nous déplaire 😎 aussi pourriez vous me conseillez une plage/ile ?
Ce qu'on cherche? Moi comme je suis assez branché photo si elle pouvait étre photogéniqueavec des rochers qui sortent de l'eau et tout et tout ça serait top bien par contre on préfererait eviter les allemands tout rouge en short et les full moon party c'est pas notre style...

Nous sommes un peu dans le même cas, même recherche... et on a repéré (sur bouquins....) l'île de Koh chang, et éventuellemnt les autres petites îles autour. Il doit y avoir moyen d'être en retrait, et en plus il y a des ballades, de la végétation, si les plages s'avéraient trop populeuses. on continue à chercher quelques précisions et avis concernant ce secteur

à proximité de kho chang ( 1h je crois .. j'ai la mémoire qui flanche ..... 🙁) il y a l'ile de kho wai, superbe, pratiquement déserte quelques bungalows, j'y suis allée en avril sur la partie de l'ile où j'étais nous étions 7 ! rien à faire qu'à profiter de la mer, du sable du soleil et des poissons .. idéal pour se reposer mais il faut aimer la plage
pour tout ceux qui s'intéresse a kho chang ( belle ille ) il y a sur place a l'année crazyfish qui est l'a pour renseigner les personnes de vf , ,
puis il y a pas mal de détailles deja sur le moteur de recherche
en tout cas c'est une ille pratique pour ceux qui sont du cote de bkk et qui désirant passer un petit moment a contempler les crabes
pour ce qui est de la plongée il ya la sirène québécoise sunisabelle
pour y aller 5 h de bus

j'ai omis de parler de kun Serge dit <<Thailsacien>> qui connais kho chang depuis l'époque des homes des cavernes, , et qui a une belle soeur qui non seulement feras un tris dans la qualité des plats a vous servir mais en plus un petit 10% de moins ( un resto thaïe, , )
son resto est a 10 minutes en petite moto depuis cette plage bondee de monde, ,

Z'êtes pénibles, les piliers du forum, vu la qualité de ce que vous envoyer/poster depuis midi j'ai, dans un premier temps, bavé partout et mainteant j'ai gravé sur mon mur les jours qu'il restait avant de partir ... c'est ma femme qu'i va être contente quand elle va voir ça ! ... l'automne va être long ...
😏 En février, nous avons passé 15 j au "grand view resort " c'est a un bout de la plage, avec des bungalows, avec sdb et terasse, dans un jardin .prix 800 baths.
Sur la plage il a 3-4 restos super sympas.

Tu t'inquiètes trop.
Ns non plus on est pas très plage.On y habite tte l'année.Et ds le midi en plus.Alors imagines un peu des vacances avec comme à la maison les touristes et les coups de soleil....
On est descendu jusqu'à Krabi il y a 2 ans.Cherche pas.T'as juste à prendre ton temps pour tout.On a rencontré un type sympa sur la plage et il ns à baladé pdt 2 jours sur son bateau.On a rien fait d'autre.Un peu de plongée.Des diners sympas .Des balades le soir.
Pareil à Phi phi.En fait on à tout pris dans les yeux.Pour le reste c'est bon on repart en décembre.On va aller vers le nord je pense.Et obligé d'aller sur une ile.Ko samet ou ko chang sans doute.Bangkok on s'y arretera entre le nord et le sud ou alors à la fin.Parce que la dernière fois c'était trop dépaysant en descendant d'avion.On voulait tt voir et et comme on était tt seul c'était pas facile.De toute façons vas qd même ds le sud même une ou 2 nuit(au moins un peu de bord de mer avant de rentrer).Tu fras comme tt le monde:t'y retourneras...
l'inquiétude fait partie du voyage, , tu as raison que te renseigner, , c'est comme cela que on peut éviter les petit pièges tendu aux voyageurs ( c'est c'est planetaire , , )
et d'autre part sur VF il y a de tres bons plans, , réel . et mis a jour ( pas comme les Lonley routard expression de l'alsacien thaïe, )

Oui, tiens, une question j'ai vu qu'a la saison des pluies il fallait se méfier des plages de Kho chang à cause des courants. C'est pareil en décembre ?

Crazyfish va te repondre sur les courants, , mieux que moi, mais pour y avoir ete a toutes les époques de l'année, , rien a voir, , autant il faut faire attention des courants sous marin, , en juin juillet autant la nage est sure en hiver , , ( sur une de mes petites photos, , il y a une ille bien en hiver un coup de nage tout les jours a ete faite pour savourer les plages désertes de cette ille, , )depart de lonley beach

ecoute question courant..comme l a dit Thuan il faut se mefier de juin a septembre car c est la mousson et il y a a cet epoque en effet de fort courant marin..mais pour la periode de octobre a mai il n y a pas de probleme..juste peut etre des courants d air si tu prends un bungalow avec la clim..

La clim ... c'est necessaire ? Je sais, je verrais sur place mais bon en bord de mer y'a de l'air, non ?
Enfin je sais pas, coincé dans un embouteillage dans une bagnole en plein soleil avec 40° là je vois bein l'usage de la clim mais allez dans un pays chaud pour revenir enrhumé ça me rait bizarre sur le principe ... Non, je me gourre ? C'est tellement intenable qu'il FAUT la clim ?

Moi aussi, je suis fan de la Thai. Je pense que si tu choisis une trop petite île, tu vas vas t'ennuyer assez vite. Moi, mon choix, c'est Koh Samui. il y a toutes sortes de plages. Le tour de l'île (bateau ou autres) est agréables et permet de jolies photos.
Par facilité, je voyage souvent avec best-tours. Je prends ainsi les billets d'avion hôtels et transferts . Je ne prends aucune excursion car elles sont hors prix et syur place, je tire mon plan. Je trouve que piour un premier voyage, c'est rassurant.
Sur mon site, tu trouveras des photos qui te permettront de choisir ce que tu veux voir.Je ne te dis pas que c'est la bonne formule, mais MOI, elle me convient.
Le premier jour que j'ai passé en Thai, je me suis ditr que je ne saurais plus me passer de ce pays. Je compte m'y installer dans 2 ans... Fais gaffe !

en effet en decembre tu n as franchement pas besoin de climatisation...c est la periode la plus douce de l annee...je ne dis pas que c est froid..(je n aime pas le froid)....non il ne pleut plus en decembre......

Je ne sais pas si tu as suivi l'autre fil mais nous n'allons qu'une 15aine de jours en thailande et pour nous le balnéaire n'est pas une fin en soi donc nous ne passerons que qques jours " on the beach "... ça ne laisse pas vraiment le temps de s'ennuyer ! 😉

Enfin, même pour moi qui n'aime pas glander sur une plage, je pense que je tirerais une certaine jouissance a me balader en maillot sur une plage "de carte postale " alors qu'en France c'est gris/froid/pluvieux . Ca l'a fait en février, nos en maillot devant le Dead Sea et les copains sous la neige a Paris ...
Comme je disais " il faut faire des choix", j'ai fait Recherche/ Kho Samui ... J'ai commencé a lire puis je suis tombé sur le message de Flavia, et à partir du moment ou l'ile n'a pas quelque chose qui fait vraiment le différence par rapport aux autres, ce genre de racket est exactement le genre de chose qui me fait aller ailleurs.
Les consommateurs, voyageurs, utilisateurs sont les seuls a avoir le VRAI pouvoir, le pouvoir de claquer du fric ici ou ailleurs, j'exerce ce choix ...
Après le paysage qui me fait vraiment envie c'est Phang nga, l'ile du Dr No, mais bon autant a Kho Chang j'ai l'iimpression de pouvoir échapper aux touristes " qui n'ont pas les mêmes gouts que nous " ( je m'étonne de tant de diplomatie des fois ! 😛 ) autant là-bas j'ai l'impression que c'est moins facilement possible.
Quand a y vivre ... faut faire gaffe je suis en pleine crise de la 40aine 🙂 😉, tout me gonfle ici alors élever des élephants au fond de la jungle, pourquoi pas .. y'a que les serpents qui m'emm**dent !! 😠

Koh-Chang c'est la deuxième plus grande île après celle de Phuket soit le double de Koh-Samui .

La "snake farm", derière la croix rouge à Bangkok, organise tous les matins une projection + présentatoin des différentes espèces de serpents rencontrés en Thaïlande. On t'explique aussi comment est extrait le venin à partir duquel on fabrique le sérum.
Ce genre de spectacle pourra peut-être intéresser ta fille ?

😏 Bonjour Ramariaka, en 1999, j'ai eu la chance de visiter "un peu " Madasgascar, en allant de Tana à tuléar, puis Ifaty à vélo GENIAL .Avec quand même retour sur Tana en avion .Quel beau pays, des malgaches hypers sympas .Bref de bons souvenirs.
Pour la thailande, dis moi ce que tu prévois, ainsi que tes goûts .Ainsi je pourrai mieux te répondre .Pour les photos je te les expédierai a la fin de la semaine prochaine, car je suis à Paris, chez ma fille pour 8 jours .Si j'oublie, rappelle-moi

pour commencer visiter la capitale, en ce moment je collecte tous les renseignements a voir a faire dans le rayon de 2h de route entourant Bangkok, grace aux autres membres de VF, je crois avoir tous les renseignements qu'il faut, mais pour ce qui est du nord de la Thailand c'est encore un peu brouillon, donc des photos du Nord comme les cascades, les lieux epoustouflants seraient les bienvenu

😏 bonjour, à Bangkok THE PALAIS ROYAL !!!! je l'ai fait 4 fois. ET si j'y retounes à BKK, je le reverrai avec toujours autant de plaisir . Seul mini-problème, il faut y être a l'ouverture, juste avant l'arrivée "des Wagons de japonnais" !!!
A voir également le marché flottant de Damoen Saduak .Mais la aussi faut y être avant la foule, env. 10h .Pour ça il faut coucher a l'hôtel "little bird".Et partir le matin vers 5h30.
A Chiang mai nous avons fait un trek dans la montagne, organisé a partir d'une guesthouse tenue par des français

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

Family of 4—2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 15) who are well-traveled.
We’re planning a 15-day trip to Indonesia and would love your thoughts on our itinerary.
We love discovering local culture, food (!!), seeing beautiful landscapes, and keeping an active pace. We’re not the type to lounge on the beach for 5 hours or spend ages by the pool when we’re halfway across the world. Also, we try to avoid places "ruined" by mass tourism (like Holbox in Mexico, which we loved 10 years ago but not at all on our last visit, or Phi Phi in Thailand, completely destroyed by mass tourism).
Special note: we love traveling by train :)
