J'ai une petite question en particulier pour ceux qui connaissent bien Benares en cette saison de Mousson
Nous partons le 16 juillet et rentrons le 10 Août. Une question me taraude doit on compte tenu de la mousson (qui me parait bien engagée cette année) commencer par Delhi - Agra - Kadjurao - Varanasi et repartir vers le Rajasthan ou le contraire ???? notre séjour dure 4 semaines on va le faire ventre à terre on fera ce qu'on peut... (mais j'ai quand même bien envi de voir Varanasi).
Dans un sens ou dans l'autre ça va etre dur d'éviter les douches.
De plus 4 semaines pour tout ça c'est trés peu.Mieux vaut se limiter à Agra et le Radjasthan ou Agra Kajurao Varanasi.
Du moins c'est ce que je ferai si je ne pouvais pas partir en Février Mars.

Pour la mousson, théoriquement tu auras moins de pluie au Rajasthan, mais on ne peut jamais prévoir ! En aout 2004, pas une goutte en 3 semaines au Rajasthan, si 2 h à Delhi… et en aout 2005, pas énormement de pluie au MP, ca se fait tres bien…
Entre Agra et Khajuraho, il y a Gwalior et Orchha, qui valent vraiment qu’on s’y arrête !!

Question timing, je trouve aussi que ça fait beaucoup.
Si c'est ton 1er contact avec l'Inde et si on ajoute le facteur météo et timing, je te conseille de n'aller qu'au Rajasthan + région d'Agra et de garder Varanasi pour un autre voyage.
A 15 jours du départ, et malgré les plans que tu as fait, je te confirme ce que dis MIGU.
Si le temps ne s'y prête pas, tu vas ramer en voulant faire le Rajhastan ET le triangle Agra-Khajuraho-Varanasi......
Tu as déjà été certainement voir mes itinéraires sur mon site et tu as pu constater que j'ai fait un itinéraire de 15 jours au Rajhastan en avril et une deuxième fois 15 jours du côté de Varanasi en janvier. Je te confirme que c'est trop la course.....
Maintenant, tu peux toujours commencer ton itinéraire d'un côté ou de l'autre et si le temps commence à être trop court, hop ! tu prends un train de nuit !!
Par contre, tout à fait d'accord avec Phil64, tu ne dois absolument pas rater, entre Agra et Khajuraho, les villes ou villages suivants où nous avions pris le temps de nous arrêter : Gwalior (fort), Jhansi (fort), Sonagir (77 temples Jaïns sur une colline) et Datia (palais moghol). Ce sont des endroits magiques !!
De toute façon, tu retourneras en Inde, c'est sûre !! 😛

BON je crois que je vais tirer à pile ou face ou faire qu'une partie du Rajasthan bon Agra c'est incontournable et pas très loin de Delhi (j'ai commencé à prendre les horaires de train. Quant à la pluie en regardant les sites météo en ce moment il pleut un peu partout surtout dans l'Uttar Pradesh donc cela va peut être simplifié le choix vers le Rajasthan....cruel dilemme

je m'use les yeux et ne travaille beaucoup en ce moment à lire tous vos témoignages de voyage en Inde.... et plus j'avance plus le choix est difficile...je rève de Bénares depuis très longtemps.....et en même temps je ne crois pas avoir envie de courir, .... et puis le Rajasthan me tente aussi. Delhi et Agra étant les premières certitudes....
Pour l'instant j'ai commencé à regarder les horaires de train et essayer de calculer une première approche de "timing" dans un sens ou dans l'autre.... Comme tu le dis, c'est vrai que l'on peut changer nos plans prendre un train et aller ailleurs et surtout revenir.....

Il pourrait, en complément de ceux de Phil64 et Laptitmarie, t'aider à faire ton choix.
Au passage, je lis que tu coches comme incontournable, Delhi. Perso nous avons vite fui cette ville aggressive à divers points de vue quand tu débarques de l'avion pour partir direct dans le Shekawati. Je te conseillerai d'y passer du temps au retour s'il t'en reste...
Quand à Varanasi... moi aussi j'en "rêve" mais sur les conseils d'un ami vieux routard de l'Inde, pour un 1er contact avec le continent, il y a des risques de prendre une trop grande baffe (pourtant je ne suis pas du type à développer le syndrome du voyageur culpabilisant et empathique à l'excès). Et quand on ajoute le facteur temps...
Nous sommes tombés amoureux de l'Inde, n'ayant par ailleurs pas développé de fantasmes préliminaires sur la destination, et nous sommes CERTAINS d'y retourner... pour Varanasi, le Népal, le Gujarat...
En tous cas, je te souhaite un voyage aussi beau que le nôtre !
Je pense qu'il vaut mieux faire la vallée du Gange d'abord, car avec la mousson c'est très fatiguant..ensuite tu fais le Radjasthan, car c'est beaucoup plus soft, moins de monde, temps plus sec. Je te conseille de passer à Pushkar, (à côté d'Ajmer), c'est un bourg piétonnier, très relax et après la foule du Gange c'est un belle endroit pour recharger les batteries;

Entre Agra et Gwalior, tu as le Taj Express à 10h15 arrivée à 11h52.
Le même train qui déjà peut t'amener de Delhi (Nizamuddin railways station) vers Agra, départ 7h15 arrivée 10h07.
A Gwalior, nous avions loué sur place et sans réservation, un taxi pour 2 journées vers Khajuraho avec des arrêt dans les villes et villages que je t'ai précédemment cités et plusieurs arrêts pour manger.
Le tout pour 3200 rps.
On avait loué ce taxi dans une petite agence dans le batiment qui se trouve en face de la gare :

Pour le logement, on a pris une chambre au Regency Square à 500m de la gare pour 450 rps (chambre double, salle de bain, eau chaude le matin)

Oui pour Orchha et Khajuraho... ce sera tempo entre Jhansi et Orchha puis le bus ou comme le dis Marie un taxi, entre Orchha et Khajuraho. l'idée de marie semble bonne.
Sinon pour dormir à Gwalior, il y a le Gurdwara du temple sikh, tres sympa, gratuit (donation conseillée...) et surtout tres belle expérience. Bien placé dans la forteresse même, vraiment à faire. (fais une recherche sur le forum dessus, on en a dejà parlé...)

Delhi est incontournable parce qu'on y atterrit très tard et redécolle donc passage obligé !!!! nous avons réservé deux nuits le temps d'arriver, de prendre les billets de train et de repartir (+ un peu de shopping pour les vêtements adaptés) et Agra juste pour voir le taj Mahal mais on y restera très peu de temps,

Je suis arrivé dans cette ville aprés déja près de 3 mois de présence en Inde.
Je suis parti me ballader sur les gaths et je suis arrivé a la nuit tombante sur les gaths crématoires.C'est la plus grande baffe que j'ai reçu en Inde si j'oublie celle reçue à mon arrivée dans le pays.
Il semble que Varanasi fasse peur… Je me permets de poster un photo de crémation, pour démystifier peut-être… L'un de mes amis a perdu un voisin, je me trouvais sur les lieux, la famille m'a demandé de prendre des photos. Je suis allée chercher mon appareil…
Je pense qu'il serait plutôt bon de commencer par le Rajasthan ou la mousson est généralement moins forte. Plus on approche de la fin de la mousson mieux c'est pour la visite de Varanasi. Donc Varanasi en dernier. Mais le climat est tellement changeant actuellement en Inde comme partout d'ailleurs qu'il est peut-être difficile de donner des conseils. De toute façon même si tu avais la malchance d'avoir une mousson conséquente ça sera un fantastique voyage.
Je te souhaite un merveilleux voyage dans ce pays que je visite chaque année depuis 32 ans.

I’ve planned a three-week itinerary for this summer, from August 9 to 27, in Sri Lanka:
Negombo – 1 night
Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle – 4 nights
Kandy – 2 nights
Ella – 3 nights
Tangalle – 6 nights
Colombo Airport – 1 night
I know this isn’t the ideal time for the south since the beach conditions aren’t great, but we’ve booked a hotel with a pool and won’t be swimming in the sea. We want to relax after all the travel since we’re bringing our two kids, aged 6 and 8.
I know the east would be better, but (i) I’m struggling to find suitable accommodation, and (ii) it adds a lot of travel time, and my kids can only handle about 3 hours at a stretch.
I looked into Arugam Bay, but it’s a 7-hour trip back to Colombo from there.
I’ve checked every weather site imaginable, but they don’t all agree. Do you think we’ll spend our whole trip in the rain, or is the monsoon in the south mostly limited to the sea, as I’ve read?
I’m worried about ending up in the middle of a natural disaster with my two young kids, given recent events.

This year, 2026, I can only get away in April and May. I never travel during these months usually, and from what I know, they aren’t the best for India. But in such a big country, there are always spots that are better than others weather-wise.

We’re more drawn to the Andes, exploring colonial cities, typical villages, markets, and a bit of the coast. We’ve already gotten a taste of this in Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile. Plus, we’d love to do part of it by car since we’re used to driving at our own pace and stopping whenever we feel like it. Anyway, time’s running out, and I need to decide so I can finalize a route and book the tickets!!

I’ve planned a trip to Asia for the first half of November.
I’ll arrive in Singapore at the start of November for about 3 days, and I’ll leave from Bangkok in mid-November.
In between, I’d like to gradually head north to visit some less touristy islands on the Thai coast.

Just giving you the quick context: A group of friends and I are planning a trip to South Korea (Seoul/Busan) at the end of June/July next year. It falls right in the middle of the monsoon season, but we don’t really have other availability options.😕
I’d love to hear from people who’ve visited the country and these cities during this period—basically, is it not as bad as it sounds, or should we just cancel our tickets (we don’t mind the heat, it’s mostly the rain that scares us).
I know there are plenty of indoor activities, but do you think we’ll still manage to get a few sunny days, or will it be torrential rain for our entire 2-week trip?
The only other country we’ve visited during the rainy season is Brazil (in the northeast) around the same time, and honestly, aside from a few really annoying downpours, we had sunshine most of the time and it was awesome. That said, the climate is totally different, so I’m not sure how relevant the comparison is.

Not sure if guidebooks, agencies, and other tour operators are keeping up by changing their visiting hours and offerings.
Personally, I see a promising opportunity here—jumping on this adaptation to extreme climates before others do, since they’re inevitably coming.
From my own travel experience, I’ve met a few guides so far who are starting to adjust, like in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, and elsewhere.
They avoid crowds and the hottest hours by starting their tours around 6–7 AM, when it’s cooler.
Yeah, you’ve gotta wake up early, but the payoff is so worth it. 😴
If you’ve got any great tips like this, why not discuss them in this thread and share addresses or websites where the people in charge have realized climate change is real and are adapting? 😊
